Supreme Court Again Blocks Missouri
The Wall Street Journal reports Supreme Court Again Blocks Missouri From Using GOP-Friendly Voting Map
The Supreme Court for a second time blocked Missouri from using a congressional map in the November midterm elections that the state GOP redrew to benefit Republicans.
The court issued a brief order Thursday to end a dispute that Justice Brett Kavanaugh had already tried to settle earlier this week. No justices recorded any dissent, and the order came less than an hour after Missouri Republicans submitted a legal brief seeking to use their preferred map.
That unusually rapid timing suggested the justices were eager to send a message about the last-ditch bid by Republicans to circumvent a prior ruling from the state’s highest court, which deemed the pro-GOP map invalid.
Missouri’s legislature voted to redraw its congressional districts last year amid a mid-decade redistricting push across the country as Republicans and Democrats battled for control of the House of Representatives. The new map would have given GOP candidates an advantage in seven of the state’s eight House districts.
Last week, the Missouri Supreme Court said the redrawn districts can’t be used unless voters approve them in a ballot referendum. On Tuesday, Kavanaugh rejected an emergency appeal from Missouri Republicans and declined to disturb the state court’s ruling. Kavanaugh, who fields emergency requests from Missouri and surrounding states, didn’t refer the matter to the full court—a sign that he didn’t believe it raised a serious legal issue.
But minutes after being notified of Kavanaugh’s action, a federal judge in a different case nevertheless restored the Republican-favored districts, setting off a lightning-quick flurry of new proceedings that rushed back up to the Supreme Court.
The state Supreme Court, meanwhile, convened proceedings Thursday to decide whether to hold the state’s top election official, Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins, in contempt for not following its ruling. After the federal district court issued its order on Sept. 8, Hoskins sent local election officials an email directing them to use the gerrymandered map.
Missouri Chief Justice W. Brent Powell said the secretary could have waited until a final ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court before issuing his directive and warned Hoskins “not to venture too far from Jefferson City until this contempt motion is resolved.”

The problem is, according to Legal Scholars, that not only was the ruling horrible, ridiculous, and unConstitutional, but there won’t be enough time to change the map back with the Election coming up in a very short period of time. The Election Process, as usual, is being disturbed in America! Missouri must be able to use the map that was in effect just a couple of months ago, in the Primary. Once again we see that Trump does not own this Supreme Court despite widespread Democrat allegations.
Republican Lost Supreme Court Cases
- Birthright Citizenship: (Trump v. Barbara). The Supreme Court ruled 6–3 against Trump’s executive order that sought to eliminate automatic citizenship for U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants or temporary visa holders. Chief Justice John Roberts, writing for the majority, affirmed that the 14th Amendment’s Citizenship Clause protects children born on U.S. soil regardless of their parents’ legal status, making clear that birthright citizenship cannot be revoked by presidential decree.
- Tariffs: A coalition of conservative and liberal justices determined that the administration had exceeded its statutory and executive authorities under federal trade and emergency statutes.
- Missouri Gerrymandering: Described above
- Fed Lisa Cook: The court ruled 5–4 against the Trump administration’s attempt to immediately remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.
- Deportations & The Alien Enemies Act: The court pushed back against efforts to invoke the Alien Enemies Act to summarily deport alleged gang members without standard due process.
- Rejection of 2020 Election Challenges (Texas v. Pennsylvania): In December 2020, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected an effort by Texas and the Trump campaign to overturn election results in four key swing states due to lack of standing.
- E. Jean Carroll Defamation Appeals: The justices refused to hear Trump’s final appeal of the $5 million federal civil jury verdict finding him liable for sexual abuse and defamation.
- Mail-In Voting / Postmark Deadlines (Watson v. Republican National Committee): The court rejected a Trump- and RNC-backed effort seeking to invalidate state laws that allow mail-in ballots to be counted if they are postmarked by Election Day but received shortly after.
On Deck
The U.S. Supreme Court is considering legal challenges regarding mail-in voting rules and federal-state authorities as elections approach.
Various state attorneys general and civic organizations have challenged federal regulations concerning mail-in ballots. Lower courts have issued injunctions affecting the implementation of these rules.
Trump is going to lose that case too.

Once thousands of heavily armed men from Missouri rode to Kansas and illegally voted in their election. Thus preserving its fairness. In Missouri they have statues honoring the use of election interference.

Trump’s Past Statements and Non-Interventionist Stance
Ending Endless Wars: In his 2019 State of the Union Address, Trump famously stated that “great nations do not fight endless wars,” advocating for bringing American troops home from protracted conflicts in the Middle East.)
Rejecting Regime Change: During a 2016 tour event in North Carolina, Trump laid out a non-interventionist-leaning policy, declaring, “We will stop racing to topple foreign regimes that we know nothing about, that we shouldn’t be involved with”. He argued that money should instead be spent domestically on infrastructure.
Skepticism of Middle East Interventions: Over his political career, opposition to costly foreign interventions and nation-building formed a core pillar of his messaging, even as he concurrently promised a powerful and rebuilt military.
And how in Hades are they gonna unwrap the fact that the candidates on the ballot will have been selected, in the primary, based upon the map of districts they are now not using in the general election? What a stupid mess. Play stupid games, win (?) stupid prizes. Probably should have resolved the map issue, with definity, prior to the primaries. If only they worked as hard at legislation as they do on this crap.
The type of good faith and concord, such as it was, that made this republic possible is shredding. It parallels the reengineering of the world to a state of degraded relationship where every player demands to produce as little and possible and charge exorbitant costs for everything possible. This type of collapse (familiar to anyone in a failing marriage) was put on spectacular display in the form of two world wars. Because these elite assholes have no historical memory or vision, we are veering back that way, now domestically as well. The new zeitgeist is no manners, no shame, no grace, no decency. And this time, lots of countries have nukes. But who cares, if our domestic politics descend into civil chaos.
Hope to see many more as a few are waking up and actually doing their job and what is expected of them. After all, taco has to be stopped before he causes more irrepatable harm to the USA.

Institutional integrity in this Supreme Court, to the degree it has been present, has been the last, critical firewall.
Honestly SCOTUS shouldn’t be having to rule on most of these. If the text of the 14th amendment got any clearer it’d have been written in neon chartreuse ink. I do think there are moments where Roberts has struggled to control his court (and I personally do support reforms to make the public more confident in SCOTUS), but this is not one of those moments.
