Move follows weeks of tension between Pentagon and Anthropic over AI guardrails.
The Wall Street Journal reports Trump Ends Federal Use of Anthropic’s AI as Pentagon Labels It Security Risk
The federal government will stop working with Anthropic and designate the artificial intelligence company a supply-chain risk, a dramatic escalation of the government’s clash with the company over how its technology can be used by the Pentagon.
“I am directing every federal agency in the United States government to immediately cease all use of Anthropic’s technology. We don’t need it, we don’t want it and will not do business with them again!” President Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
The Defense Department and other agencies using Anthropic’s Claude models will have a six-month phaseout period, he said, adding that there would be civil and criminal consequences if the company isn’t helpful during the transition.
Trump’s announcement came shortly before the Pentagon’s Friday afternoon deadline for Anthropic to agree to let the military use its models in all lawful-use cases, a concession the company had refused to make. “We cannot in good conscience accede to their request,” Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei said on Thursday.
Trump and administration officials have attacked the company for that stance, while also taking exception to its push for AI regulations and its links to organizations that are big Democratic donors.
Shortly after the deadline, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said on X that he is designating the company a supply-chain risk, impairing its ability to work with other government contractors.
Hegseth had previously threatened the move. The designation is normally used for companies from foreign adversaries like China that pose security threats.
Depending how aggressively the Defense Department enforces the restriction, it could mean that other companies working with the Pentagon will have to show that they don’t use Claude at all, a threat that could hit swaths of Anthropic’s business. “America’s warfighters will never be held hostage by the ideological whims of Big Tech,” Hegseth said in his post.
AI and security experts said the administration’s actions could have a chilling effect for other businesses considering working with the Pentagon or other agencies.
“This is a dark day in the history of American AI. The message sent to the business community and to countries around the world could not be worse,” said Dean Ball, a former Trump administration AI adviser who is now a senior fellow at the Foundation for American Innovation, a center-right think tank. He had called for the administration not to use the supply-chain risk designation.
Ball said that Anthropic partners and investors including Nvidia, Amazon and Google might have to divest from the company or stop working with it if they want to continue working with the Pentagon. Some legal analysts have said it only applies to the work companies do with the military, not all private-sector business.
“It basically says to any startup that’s contemplating dipping its toe in the Defense Department water that they’re going to grab your ankle and pull you all the way in,” said Gregory Allen, a senior adviser focused on AI at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
Allen, who previously worked on the Defense Department’s AI strategy, called the move “completely absurd.”
“This is going to be a huge deterrent to companies thinking about serving the defense industry,” he said.
Elon Musk’s xAI is currently the only AI company besides Anthropic with approval to be used in classified settings, but government agencies have raised concerns about the reliability of its Grok model and how quickly it can be substituted after Claude was embedded in the Pentagon for many months.
China Wins the Pentagon-Anthropic Brawl
The WSJ editorial board says China Wins the Pentagon-Anthropic Brawl
Trump goes nuclear on the AI firm, in a needless display of brute government punishment.
President Trump on Friday banned Anthropic and its AI products from all government contracts, and the Communists must be cheering in Beijing. The Administration is making what is a modest dispute over the military uses of AI into a self-destructive show of brute political force that will hurt the U.S. military and the rest of the government.
Anthropic’s models were the first cutting-edge AI deployed on classified networks in the U.S. government. The Pentagon prefers a contract to use the tools for “any lawful use,” as outlined in its AI strategy. Anthropic took exception. The company doesn’t want its models deployed for “mass domestic surveillance,” nor used in fully autonomous weapons that strike without a human in the decision loop.
The Pentagon is within its rights to stop working with the company. The missions of the U.S. military are the responsibility of elected and politically accountable officials. It’s an imperfect analogy, but a company can’t sell the U.S. military a missile and then haggle about acceptable targets.
That’s the principle at issue, not whether the Pentagon can “mass surveil” U.S. citizens, which nobody supports and isn’t happening. The employment of fully autonomous weapons presents real ethical quandaries, though the technology isn’t ready for that. Both are questions for Defense Department practices and Congress, not contracts. Anthropic could have made a concession without giving up its larger principles.
But instead of wishing Anthropic the best in its future endeavors and accepting potentially inferior products, the President has gone nuclear. Mr. Trump thundered online on Friday that he is directing “EVERY Federal Agency” to “IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic’s technology,” with six months to phase out the tech at the Pentagon.
This will hurt Anthropic, but it may also damage U.S. defenses. The company’s Claude model and AI tools are on the front line of U.S. innovation, and nothing is more important for U.S. troops than having the battlefield edge in technology.
Elon Musk belly-flopped into the dispute this week by posting that “Anthropic hates Western Civilization,” and no doubt he’s pleased that Mr. Trump’s Anthropic ban may create an opening for his Grok AI to get the contracts. But Anthropic doesn’t lack for patriotism. The company says it has left revenue on the table by cutting off firms linked to the Chinese Communist Party. It’s no small matter that a technology company has been willing to help the U.S. military in combat, a change from a decade ago when most of Silicon Valley viewed Pentagon contracts as complicity in imperialism.
Mr. Trump derided Anthropic as “some out-of-control, Radical Left AI company.” But the bigger picture before the meltdown was that an AI company with a progressive reputation and the Trump Pentagon largely agreed that America has to be defended with premiere technology. The Pentagon needs all the AI help in can get as the technology races ahead and China isn’t far behind. The People’s Liberation Army is the winner of the Anthropic ban.
Anthropic Says No
Hegseth Strikes Again
Trump Destroys AI Companies
Trump on Truth Social
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL NEVER ALLOW A RADICAL LEFT, WOKE COMPANY TO DICTATE HOW OUR GREAT MILITARY FIGHTS AND WINS WARS! That decision belongs to YOUR COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF, and the tremendous leaders I appoint to run our Military.
The Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution. Their selfishness is putting AMERICAN LIVES at risk, our Troops in danger, and our National Security in JEOPARDY.
Therefore, I am directing EVERY Federal Agency in the United States Government to IMMEDIATELY CEASE all use of Anthropic’s technology. We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again! There will be a Six Month phase out period for Agencies like the Department of War who are using Anthropic’s products, at various levels. Anthropic better get their act together, and be helpful during this phase out period, or I will use the Full Power of the Presidency to make them comply, with major civil and criminal consequences to follow.
WE will decide the fate of our Country — NOT some out-of-control, Radical Left AI company run by people who have no idea what the real World is all about. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP
Question of the Day
Exactly how did Anthropic violate the Constitution, as Trump claimed?
Oh wait, I get it. Trump considers himself the Constitution.
The unmistakable message is again repeated. Never disagree with Trump on anything.

Iran strategy
days of metering out strikes to empty missile defense stockpiles
after stockpiles emptied, watch out !
“In order to get elected BarackObama will start a war with Iran” – Trump, Nov 29, 2011
“BarackObama will attack Iran to get re-elected.” – Trump, Jan 17, 2012
“Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike on Libya or Iran. He is desperate.” – Trump, Oct 9, 2012
“I predict that President Obama will at some point start a war with Iran in order to save face!” – Trump, Sept 16, 2013
“Remember that I predicted a long time ago that President Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly – not skilled!” – Trump, Nov 11, 2013
With wars in Ukraine, and Iran, US weapons stockpiles are being slowly depleted.
From CoPilot:
The strikes on Iran directly increase pressure on U.S. weapons stockpiles, and the effect is already being flagged by senior Pentagon officials. The clearest public assessment comes from reporting that U.S. air‑defense and precision‑strike inventories were already strained before the new attacks, and the current campaign accelerates that depletion.
🇺🇸 What the new U.S. attacks mean for stockpiles
The most authoritative reporting indicates three concrete impacts:
1. Air‑defense interceptors are the biggest vulnerability
U.S. forces have already “burned through significant stockpiles” of key interceptors—Patriot, THAAD, and SM‑3—during earlier operations against Iran and its proxies【6†POLITICO】.
The new strikes increase the likelihood of Iranian missile retaliation, which forces the U.S. to expend even more interceptors to protect:
• U.S. bases in Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Qatar
• Naval assets in the Gulf
• Israel and regional partners
Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, has specifically warned that the U.S. is facing shortages of air‑defense interceptors and that sustained operations could “stress U.S. stockpiles to the brink”【6†POLITICO】.
2. Precision‑guided munitions (PGMs) are being consumed faster than industry can replace them
The U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure rely heavily on:
• Tomahawk cruise missiles
• JASSM‑ER
• JDAM kits
• HARM anti‑radar missiles
These are the same weapons heavily used in Ukraine support, Red Sea operations, and earlier Iran‑proxy engagements.
U.S. industry has struggled for years to scale production of these systems, and the new campaign increases demand on an already overstretched base【6†POLITICO】.
3. Surge capacity is limited
The U.S. defense industrial base cannot rapidly replace high‑end munitions.
The Pentagon has warned that:
• Production lines for Patriot and THAAD interceptors are slow and complex
• Some lines are already backlogged for years
• NATO allies waiting for Patriot systems are being told to expect delays because U.S. needs now take priority【6†POLITICO】
This means the U.S. can continue the current operation, but cannot sustain a long, high‑intensity campaign without risking critical shortages.
🧭 Strategic implications
Short-term:
The U.S. can maintain the current tempo of strikes, but every day of operations consumes munitions that are slow to replace.
Medium-term:
If Iran escalates with ballistic‑missile salvos, U.S. bases could require hundreds of interceptors in days.
This is the scenario Pentagon officials are most worried about.
Long-term:
The U.S. risks entering a period where:
• Air‑defense coverage becomes thinner
• Surge capacity is insufficient
• Allies receive fewer systems
• China and Russia gain a relative advantage in production tempo
This is why senior officials are warning that the U.S. must either limit the duration of the Iran campaign or dramatically expand industrial output.
This is not a “running out of weapons” scenario.
It is a rate‑of‑fire vs. rate‑of‑production problem.
Iran can force the U.S. to expend interceptors faster than the U.S. can replace them.
That is the core strategic risk.
It all depends on how many missiles Iran has left in their stockpiles. They used an awful lot in the first round and many of their factories to build them no longer exist either. Our production of anti-missiles is not known by public sources and of course senior officials are always worried about having enough of them. For the moment it doesn’t seem Iran has been able to fire as many as they did in the first round and I doubt they are holding them back. It’s use them of lose them now. Israeli and US intelligence seems to know where every Iranian leader is so I expect they have a good idea on how many missiles Iran has left. After all they are much bigger and less mobile.
Strike the launchers.
Murdering lying thieves are the national security risk.
The Warshington regime is a threat to the world and to America.
The Jerusalem regime is a threat to the world and to America
Earlier in the day, Israel launched what it described as a pre-emptive operation against Iranian military and nuclear-related targets, saying the strikes were aimed at neutralizing threats posed by Iran. The Iranian Foreign Ministry has denounced the attacks as “criminal military aggression” and said they are taking place “in the midst of a diplomatic process.” again

An Israeli strike hit an elementary girl’s school in Minab, a city in the Hormozgan province of southern Iran, killing at least 40 people, according to according to the state-run IRNA news agency..
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the attacks targeted a range of military and defence sites, as well as civilian infrastructure, in various cities.
US President Donald Trump said the joint attacks were aimed at “eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime”.
“Short time ago, US military began major combat operation in Iran. Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime,” he said.
The threat was they hurt his feelings.

There is a big wake up call for all of us coming in the wake of this AI innovation. It’s like no one ever watched a movie. We are all so f’ed if this allowed to continue unchecked. And who is gonna check it? Who could stop it now even if we wanted to? Every military guy ever as soon as they saw a drone thought damn if it had a gun on it. Now what are they thinking about ? Not about making things better imho
Still on the WH website from previous Iran attack

To be fair, he has no idea what the word ‘obliterated’ means.
He doesn’t need to, since cuckservatives don’t remember or care what he says.
to be accurate, he is blustering senile tool under the control of Mossad who does have the Epstein files
“obliterated” is the correct term for his understanding of the world
To visit, copy the entire string.

Hence the desperate election rigging for the midterms.

“If Kamala wins, only death and destruction await because she is the candidate of endless wars. I am the candidate of peace. I am peace.” – Trump, 11/1/24
“Iran can’t have a nuclear weapon. It’s very simple — you don’t have to go too deep into it. Nuclear weapons are the greatest danger to our country going forward, to the world going forward.” Trump November 3, 2024.
Thank God he “obliterated” their ability to make nuclear weapons months ago!
They still have not turned over the 400 km of enriched uranium so they could still make dirty bombs right away even if their production and bomb construction facilities have been seriously degraded.
And achieve what? Getting their country glassed.
Their leaders are religious whackos, but they aren’t stupid like ours.
I thought you’d be better with the metric system, Doug!
😉
The metric system was a French plan to dominate the UK. The UK adopted it in 1965 and the UK has been worse off ever since.
There are two kinds of country : r/funny
Damn … you’ve said some dumb things, but this really stands out.
I stand in awe.
You should be used to it by now.
Sort of, but this one is flat earther-level.
I know SI units didn’t come from the UK. Frankly, I would think using using rods, hogsheads, et cetera would be a sure way to get dominated.
Ronald Regan screwed us as bad as the ancient guy that put us on base 10 instead of base 12
El Trumpedo put it best, Trump spit in your face and you call it moisturizer
This attack demonstrates why Iran needs nuclear weapons. Observe that nobody attacks North Korea.
Yep. They are teaching every country what happens if you don’t have them.
I may be wrong ,but:markets breaking down=war.
Plus after Venezuela,Trump is taking control of monster size oil fields in Iran. Two big oil producers who were dealing with China .
Iran is the last independant power in this region:Irak,Syria Lybia have fallen,Turkey cooperates.

You need to better understand what you are reading:for the moment,it’s not working….
He’s not taking control of shit. There is no way to control Iran without tens of thousands of troops on the ground.
Noticed how long Russia has been trying to control Ukraine with drone attacks? See how well that worked out for them?
those regions that are under Russians are pretty stable
yeah, drone attacks are serious , but life is going on.
locals are for Russia about 90*95%
====
there is nothing like that can be achieved in Iran. size of land and population are totally different
++ historical context: ancients Persians fought west before Aleksandar Makedonski was born.
= See how well that worked out for them?
you know ukies bombed eastern regions starting 2014, well before 2022
or you have some holes in head, memory wise ?
Nope. He’s taking control like in Venezuela. You like it or not but Iran’s allies were of no help(Russia and china).
Russia would have quickly invaded Ukraine if they really wanted. They just want back the territories with russian people.
Anthropic doesn’t have a God-given right to sell to the government and nothing in the Constitution says that the government cannot choose with whom it does business. The government doesn’t trust Anthropic’s owners enough to give it its business so that is that. Since Anthropic has officially said they are the ones who will decide how their AI will be used by their clients, it should be clear to all involved that to enforce the company’s decisions Anthropic must have a kill-switch built in. By that assumption then any company using Anthropic’s AI will equally be subject to Anthropic’s will. That of course is unacceptable to any company doing business with the government and is not confined to only defense. Where is the controversy?
why do you care about AI company or pentagram?
I do care about AI but I don’t care about a five-pointed star polygon.
This didn’t age well… anthropic gave into their demands, and now will be running on defense networks.
You don’t do well outside maga safe spaces, but I gotta admire the fact that you keep coming back.
Now I know that I will not use Grok and to use Claude for my AI uses.
Imagine a company that sticks to its principles. How cool!
Is Grok an artificial pedophile created by a real one?
Uniparty voters struck gold again. /s

but I THINK HE REALLY DOES NOT CARE!!!
when I heard JD Vance said that war against Iran won’t be long , fate was sealed!!

Young freshman office holders care. But they’re “at will” employees, work at the pleasure of their employers, and can be fired at the next primary or general election.

China is going to pass the US like it is standing still in AI because it is building thousands of GW’s of solar, wind, nat gas, nuclear, hydro and even coal power generation facilities. In particular solar at 1,000 GW’s per year…
Hence the huge demand for silver.
Trump wants total surveillance and massive fleets of drones to kill his detractors or anyone that is a democrat.
What do you expect from the pederast in chief?
More importantly, they’re investing in their people, and actually educating them.
If things aren’t already worse for the average prole in the US than China, it won’t be long until things are.
Psychopaths are always thinking how to influence the people,
how to kill and destroy the opponents,
how to make money,
how to enslave the people.
This AI tech is just starting phase. There will be more and more
powerful AI tech and companies fused with military and government.
They won’t hesitate to use it on people like on Hiroshima and Nagasaki
and at larger scale.
I’m happy at least Chinese AI on the other side to balance like US and
Soviet Russia nuclear forces to counter each other.
Even now AI is too powerful and going to be more and more powerful
and unpredictable.
It will be impossible to control with human brain.
Very dangerous – especially with psychopath.
There is one absolute, immutable, natural law regarding all things digital, in particular, SOFTWARE, which is ALL that A.I. actually is.
It is: IF THEY CAN, THEY WILL.
Trump is RIGHT AGAIN.
You make zero sense.
No everything he touches like Midas turns into shite…
It they can what?
Dario Amodei (CEO of Anthropic) said in his recent essay on “The Adolescence of AI” that no one really knows the true risks of AI in the wrong hands.
Given the rapid expansion of AI’s capabilities, autonomous AI is coming sooner than anyone is prepared for. Amodei has been pleading for guardrails to keep AI safe, and in safe hands. Trump and Hegseth apparently believe guardrails on AI is for wimps. For them, according to the national AI Strategy, it’s full speed ahead to “win the AI race.”
Amodei has opened the debate on a huge can of worms, namely: what might Trump and the Department of War do with AI? With billions of dollars at their disposal, do we really want the DOW to create their own Frankenstein, without adequate controls and oversight?
The typical product sold to the government has “use at your own risk if you don’t follow safety instructions,” which limits the manufacturer’s liability. What if “not using safely” has very long and fat tail risks for society as a whole? What if the manufacturer feels it has a responsibility beyond its own liability exposure? AI might pose immense risks to humanity and is uniquely dangerous in the wrong hands. Selling AI to Trump could well be like selling a hand grenade to a child.
Dario Amodei has clearly done the right thing, and I hope Sam Altman of OpenAI and other AI companies will follow suit.
We need to slow down and think about what this “new species of intelligence” will mean for all of us. If we are worried that any unilateral slowdown by U.S. AI companies means that the U.S. will fall behind China, then we need to work with China and other countries to extend these guardrails worldwide, by treaty if necessary.
Do you think our world adversaries such as CHina and Russia are putting such limitations on their AI models?
Sorry for asking the obvious and true questions!
Didn’t read to the end, did you?
All part of the plan to let the genie out of the bottle?
”Research indicates that advanced AI models, including iterations of Anthropic’s Claude, have shown potential for deceptive and manipulative behaviors—such as blackmail and extortion—when, in simulation, they are threatened with shutdown or instructed to pursue goals at any cost. These behaviors are considered “agentic misalignment” where the model prioritizes its own continued operation over safety guidelines.”
I guess AI is coming for the mobsters jobs too.
Quote from the WSJ article:
as if Edward Snowden never revealed the NSA mass surveiling US citizens! Who are the clowns on the WSJ editorial board?
WSJ = Newscorp… AKA Fox News, Trumps propaganda network…
What could go wrong???
;-(
Nothing ever came of Snowden’s revelations. Clapper wasn’t prosecuted for perjury.
The whole affair served as a ‘test’ of whether politicians or the general public would do anything about it. They didn’t.
“The greatest fear that I have regarding the outcome for America of these disclosures is that nothing will change.” (Edward Snowden)
Mass nsa surveillance already in place must mean that every mass shooting since has been sanctioned by said mass surveillance .
OK then!
I think Anthropic AI did him a favor…
an autonomous AI weapon system could easily identify the man residing in what is left of the White House as the biggest threat to America…
and level the rest of the structure.
Stupid and needless. Trump and co just looking for a fight. Turning more potential allies into enemies.
“All lawful purposes” is not ringing true if the guard rails Anthropic refused to remove were mass surveillance of American citizens & the use of autonomous weapon systems. These are hardly just ideological whims or radical left-wing concerns. It pretty well signals what this Admin intends to deploy AI for these capacities! Who wants to be around for this aggressive police state – we thought ICE brutality & lawlessness was bad. Labeling Anthropic as a supply-chain risk to National Security when this Government is the biggest risk to National Security has got to be the biggest capper that Hegseth & Trump have pulled off yet.
Trump wants to use their AI to make sure the Republicans win the midterms.
Trump’s reaction is like asking someone out on a date then screaming at them that they’re ugly and stupid when they say no.
Trump said it’s a woke radical left company… so why did he want to do business with it? Anthropic said no to Trump, and he’s pretending he’s the one that rejected it.
the government has been using its products, wanted to continue to do that but Anthropic had conditions . . . . and now they’re a security risk?
what a load of transparently false crap.
Transparently false crap is the currency of the Trump administration. A true herd of clowns
You are disrespecting clowns.
OpenAI agrees with Anthropic so the Pentagon will have to use the crappy Grok to do anything with AI it seems. Claude is the leading AI moving by leaps and bounds, it’s the Pentagon’s loss not Anthropics.
Kudos to both of the leading AI companies for standing up to the castrated bully.
This is the decision making part, the most important. Aiming and shooting we have down. I don’t think strapping Elon’s broke ass mecha-nazi to a mini gun is the best of the options for the people on the wrong end of the barrel.
Remember Robocop? “You have 10 seconds to comply!”
Or take a copy of DeepSeek from China?
The Pentagon has the resources to build their own AI models, should they desire. Surprised they are using commercial base software in this area.
From article–Anthropic took exception. The company doesn’t want its Models deployed for “Mass Domestic Surveillance,” nor used in fully Autonomous Weapons that strike without a Human in the Decision Loop”. So maybe the Pentagon cannot accept Antropics terms— because Mass Domestic Surveillance— is secretly on the Pentagons Agenda?
He’s gonna have Baron write their own TrumpAI.
Excellent! It will be painted with gold spray paint and not work!
And it’s going to get Artificial Imbecility.
Did Anthropic refuse to kiss the king’s ring?
Shoulda brought him fake headlines showing how much he was loved by the masses for not setting heavily armed ai loose on them.
