US and Israel Attack Iran as Trump Urges Iranians to Seize Power

Trump cites need to eliminate ‘imminent threats. Threats? What Threats?

War It Is

The Wall Street Journal reports U.S. and Israel Strike Iran, Tehran Retaliates

The U.S. and Israel launched a wave of strikes against Iran, targeting its leadership and military assets in an attack that risked sparking a wider conflict in one of the most economically sensitive regions in the world.

Iran retaliated by firing a barrage of missiles and drones at Israel and U.S. bases throughout the region, including ones in Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The U.S. military intercepted multiple Iranian missiles.

President Trump said he had launched a major combat operation to ensure Americans would never be threatened by a nuclear-armed Iran. He called on Iranians to take control of the government. “I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand,” he said in a video posted on Truth Social.

Operation Epic Fury Underway

  • Explosions rocked the Iranian capital of Tehran, and other cities, and traffic clogged roads as Iranians fled.
  • The U.S. military used sea and air-based platforms to launch the strikes overnight.
  • Sirens sounded across Israel on Saturday, and multiple explosions could be heard across the United Arab Emirates.
  • Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was targeted in the strikes, along with other senior Iranian officials.
  • The U.S. and Israel plan to carry out several days of intensive attacks. The Pentagon named the Iran campaign “Operation Epic Fury.”
  • The strikes were preceded by a monthlong U.S. military buildup that followed a Trump pledge to come to the aid of protesters who challenged the regime at the beginning of January.
  • Tankers diverted from the Strait of Hormuz and oil prices have been rising over fears of conflict.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Targeted in Strikes

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was targeted in attacks on Iran this morning, according to people familiar with the matter. Khamenei’s condition is currently unknown, the people said.

Khamenei’s home and a compound he was believed to be hiding in were targeted at the outset of the attacks, according to the people.

The supreme leader was targeted along with other senior Iranian officials, including his top adviser, Ali Shamkhani, IRGC commander Gen. Mohammad Pakpour and Defense Minister Amir Nasirzadeh, the people said.

Republicans React to President Trump’s Actions in Iran

President Trump took “decisive action” against Iran, said Sen. Roger Wicker (R., Miss.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, adding that “this is a pivotal and necessary operation to protect Americans and American interests.”

“Without the use of military force against them, Iran’s ayatollahs would simply continue to grow their ability to threaten Americans and our interests, working in concert with the Chinese Communist Party, the Russian dictator Putin, North Korea, and other terrorist allies,” Wicker said.

Imminent Threats

President Trump said the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes that began early Saturday are meant to eliminate what he called “imminent threats” from the Iranian regime and to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The goal was to ensure Americans “will never be threatened by a nuclear-armed Iran,” he said in an eight-minute video posted at 2:30 a.m.

Trump didn’t make the case for why the threat was “imminent,” instead framing the strikes as a response to long-standing hostility from the Iranian regime, which he said threatened U.S. troops and bases overseas as well as its allies.

He said his administration had repeatedly sought a deal with Iran, but that Tehran refused and instead tried to rebuild its nuclear program. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were aimed at Iranian ballistic-missile sites.

Both leaders urged Iranians to rise up after the strikes, calling for regime change. “When we are finished, take over your government,” Trump said. “This is the moment for action. Do not let it pass.”

U.N. Security Council Schedules Saturday Meeting; Guterres Condemns Attacks

The United Nations Security Council said it would convene Saturday afternoon to discuss the situation in the Middle East, as U.N. Secretary General António Guterres condemned the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran as undermining peace.

“The use of force by the United States & Israel against Iran, and the subsequent retaliation by Iran across the region, undermine international peace & security,” Guterres said in a post on X. His fuller statement said, “I condemn today’s military escalation in the Middle East” and he called for respect of the U.N. Charter. The U.S. takes over the rotating presidency of the 15-member U.N. Security Council for March, and first lady Melania Trump is scheduled to preside Monday over an event to mark the handover in what would be a first for the spouse of a U.S. president.

I agree with the UN. Iran was no threat.

That is what Trump said too.

Threats? What Threats? Fake News

Please recall the White House announcement on June 25, 2025: Iran’s Nuclear Facilities Have Been Obliterated — and Suggestions Otherwise are Fake News

Take it from those who actually know:

President Trump: “Monumental Damage was done to all Nuclear sites in Iran, as shown by satellite images. Obliteration is an accurate term! The white structure shown is deeply imbedded into the rock, with even its roof well below ground level, and completely shielded from flame. The biggest damage took place far below ground level. Bullseye!!!”

Israel Atomic Energy Commission: “The devastating US strike on Fordo destroyed the site’s critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility inoperable. We assess that the American strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, combined with Israeli strikes on other elements of Iran’s military nuclear program, has set back Iran’s ability to develop nuclear weapons by many years. The achievement can continue indefinitely if Iran does not get access to nuclear material.”

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir: “I can say here that the assessment is that we significantly damaged the nuclear program, and I can also say that we set it back by years, I repeat, years.”

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei: “Our nuclear installations have been badly damaged, that’s for sure.”

Vice President JD Vance: “I can say to the American people with great confidence that they are much further away from a nuclear program today than they were 24 hours ago. That was the objective of the mission, to destroy that Fordow nuclear site, and of course, do some damage to the other sites as well, but we feel very confident that the Fordow nuclear site was substantially set back, and that was our goal.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth: “Based on everything we have seen — and I’ve seen it all — our bombing campaign obliterated Iran’s ability to create nuclear weapons. Our massive bombs hit exactly the right spot at each target and worked perfectly. The impact of those bombs is buried under a mountain of rubble in Iran; so anyone who says the bombs were not devastating is just trying to undermine the President and the successful mission.”

Secretary Hegseth: “Given the 30,000 pounds of explosions and the capability of those munitions, it was DEVASTATION underneath Fordow … Any assessment that tells you otherwise is speculating with other motives.”

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan “Razin” Caine: “Initial battle damage assessments indicate that all three sites sustained extremely severe damage and destruction. More than 125 US aircraft participated in this mission, including B2 stealth bombers, multiple flights of fourth and fifth generation fighters, dozens and dozens of air refueling tankers, a guided missile submarine, and a full array of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance aircraft, as well as hundreds of maintenance and operational professionals.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio: “The Iranian program — the nuclear program — today looks nothing like it did just a week ago … That story is a false story and it’s one that really shouldn’t be re-reported because it doesn’t accurately reflect what’s happening.”

Secretary Rubio: “Everything underneath that mountain is in bad shape … There’s no way Iran comes to the table if somehow nothing had happened. This was complete and total obliteration. They are in bad shape. They are way behind today compared to where they were just seven days ago because of what President Trump did.”

Special Envoy Steve Witkoff: “We put 12 bunker buster bombs on Fordow. There’s no doubt that it breached the canopy, there’s no doubt that it was well within reach of the depth that these bunker buster bombs go to, and there’s no doubt that it was obliterated — so the reporting out there that in some way suggests that we did not achieve the objective is just completely preposterous.”

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard: “The operation was a resounding success. Our missiles were delivered precisely and accurately, obliterating key Iranian capabilities needed to quickly assemble a nuclear weapon.”

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi: “Given the explosive payload utilized, and the extreme vibration-sensitive nature of centrifuges, very significant damage is expected to have occurred. At the Esfahan nuclear site, additional buildings were hit, with the US confirming their use of cruise missiles. Affected buildings include some related to the uranium conversion process. Also at this site, entrances to tunnels used for the storage of enriched material appear to have been hit. At the Natanz enrichment site, the Fuel Enrichment Plant was hit, with the US confirming that it used ground-penetrating munitions.”

Institute for Science and International Security President David Albright: “Overall, Israel’s and U.S. attacks have effectively destroyed Iran’s centrifuge enrichment program.  It will be a long time before Iran comes anywhere near the capability it had before the attack.”

Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ Nonproliferation and Biodefense Program Deputy Director Andrea Stricker: “I think that because of the massive damage and the shock wave that would have been sent by 12 Massive Ordnance Penetrators at the Fordow site, that it likely would render its centrifuges damaged or inoperable.”

American Enterprise Institute Middle East Portfolio Manager Brian Carter: “There is no question that the bombing campaign ‘badly, badly damaged’ the three sites.”

Institute for Science and International Security Senior Research Fellow Spencer Faragasso: “Overall, it may possibly take years for Iran to reconstitute the capabilities it lost at these facilities.”

Well, I am glad we cleared that up.

US Stockpiles Depleted

From CoPilot via a Reader ….

The strikes on Iran directly increase pressure on U.S. weapons stockpiles, and the effect is already being flagged by senior Pentagon officials. The clearest public assessment comes from reporting that U.S. air‑defense and precision‑strike inventories were already strained before the new attacks, and the current campaign accelerates that depletion.

What the new U.S. attacks mean for stockpiles

The most authoritative reporting indicates three concrete impacts:

1. Air‑defense interceptors are the biggest vulnerability

U.S. forces have already “burned through significant stockpiles” of key interceptors—Patriot, THAAD, and SM‑3—during earlier operations against Iran and its proxies【6†POLITICO】.
The new strikes increase the likelihood of Iranian missile retaliation, which forces the U.S. to expend even more interceptors to protect:

• U.S. bases in Iraq, Syria, Bahrain, Qatar
• Naval assets in the Gulf
• Israel and regional partners

Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, has specifically warned that the U.S. is facing shortages of air‑defense interceptors and that sustained operations could “stress U.S. stockpiles to the brink”【6†POLITICO】.

2. Precision‑guided munitions (PGMs) are being consumed faster than industry can replace them

The U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure rely heavily on:

• Tomahawk cruise missiles
• JASSM‑ER
• JDAM kits
• HARM anti‑radar missiles

These are the same weapons heavily used in Ukraine support, Red Sea operations, and earlier Iran‑proxy engagements.
U.S. industry has struggled for years to scale production of these systems, and the new campaign increases demand on an already overstretched base【6†POLITICO】.

3. Surge capacity is limited

The U.S. defense industrial base cannot rapidly replace high‑end munitions.
The Pentagon has warned that:

• Production lines for Patriot and THAAD interceptors are slow and complex
• Some lines are already backlogged for years
• NATO allies waiting for Patriot systems are being told to expect delays because U.S. needs now take priority【6†POLITICO】

This means the U.S. can continue the current operation, but cannot sustain a long, high‑intensity campaign without risking critical shortages.

🧭 Strategic implications

Short-term:

The U.S. can maintain the current tempo of strikes, but every day of operations consumes munitions that are slow to replace.

Medium-term:

If Iran escalates with ballistic‑missile salvos, U.S. bases could require hundreds of interceptors in days.
This is the scenario Pentagon officials are most worried about.

Long-term:

The U.S. risks entering a period where:

• Air‑defense coverage becomes thinner
• Surge capacity is insufficient
• Allies receive fewer systems
• China and Russia gain a relative advantage in production tempo

This is why senior officials are warning that the U.S. must either limit the duration of the Iran campaign or dramatically expand industrial output.

This is not a “running out of weapons” scenario.
It is a rate‑of‑fire vs. rate‑of‑production problem.

Iran can force the U.S. to expend interceptors faster than the U.S. can replace them.
That is the core strategic risk.

Oh Goody. Trump will no request more defense spending

What About Obama?

“In order to get elected BarackObama will start a war with Iran” – Trump, Nov 29, 2011

“BarackObama will attack Iran to get re-elected.” – Trump, Jan 17, 2012

“Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike on Libya or Iran. He is desperate.” – Trump, Oct 9, 2012

“I predict that President Obama will at some point start a war with Iran in order to save face!” – Trump, Sept 16, 2013

“Remember that I predicted a long time ago that President Obama will attack Iran because of his inability to negotiate properly – not skilled!” – Trump, Nov 11, 2013

The hypocrites who wanted Trump to stop the wars are no doubt now praising Trump.

When does Trump proclaim he stopped another war? He’s stopped 7 already. This must be number 8.

That’s funny. I’ve been urging Americans to legally seize power as well.

If Iran doesn’t bow down fast, likely the State Dept. will play the separatist card. I noticed JD Vance was in Baku two weeks past, shmoozing it up with Ilham Aliyev.

It must be known that the Iranian province of Azerbaijan is much larger than the republic of Azerbaijan, and has more Azerbaijanis than the republic. The Soviet Union supported a secession in the 1940s that was bloodily suppressed with US aid.

Could Greater Azerbaijan be in the works not only to weaken Iran but also win favor with pro-Turanian Erdogan in Turkey as well as stick it to Putin south of the Caucasus?

Meanwhile, our favorite dupes the Kurds have been active in eastern Azerbaijan province as well. But grooming them for terror against Teheran means stirring them up against Azerbaijanis as well. It could get ugly.

Also, serious upticks in Balochi violence has rocked Iran in the past two years — but also neighboring Pakistan. Any separatist Balochistan carved out of eastern Iran spells big trouble for the larger Balochistan province in Pakistan plus Balochi presence in southern Afghanistan, which is also in a hot war with Pakistan right now.

Yep. This could get real ugly.

Get ready for big cuts in social security and Medicare. There is no room in the budget for 50% increases in war spending (department of war) and the programs Americans have paid for, particularly with tariff revenue in danger. We are seeing Israel first before our eyes.

I wonder if Trump is still expecting the peace prize?

let’s see started war in Venezuela, interfering with Cuba, threatening Greenland, wants to takeover Panama and Canada, already bombed Iran back in June, helped Israel murder Palestinians, is helping Russia take over Ukraine, and now back to Iran for some more bombing and declared war in Chicago, Minneapolis, DC , etc against immigrants (both legal and illegal) murdered nearly 100 supposed drug runners in the war on drugs. All in about 13 months. Is there a Nobel war monger prize? If so, I nominate Trump.

BTW, did congress approve any of this?

True regime change would require extreme measures against the footsoldiers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (the Iranian military) and its paramilitary Basij subsidiary — mass liquidation of religious fanatics.
Leaders killed by U.S. air strikes will be quickly replaced, perhaps with even more extreme fanatics, who will characterized opposition as traitors.
Imagine Iraq without boots on the ground.

It is said that shortly after WWII began, German foreign minister Joachim von Ribbentrop boasted “we could fill a trunk with the treaties we’ve violated!” Who knows if its true, but it might as well be.

Seems like the same holds true for the current U.S. administration plus the last two: any nation that goes into negotiations to find peace gets rewarded with war.

Russia must surely know this: the Minsk II agreements were cover for Ukrainian military build-up, as German chancellor Angela Merkel gleefully revealed later on.

Now, as peace talks between the Russians and Kusher & Witkoff continue, what should the Russians finally conclude?

Anyone with a brain ought to think: “These guys can never be trusted. EVER.”

Canada, Australia and UK endorsed the attack on Iran and are now making public statements about taking out Iran’s military and government and nuclear capabilities. This is a huge tell than these countries have been waiting for a US administration to attack Iran.

“Hope” was Obama’s mantra, but it is not a strategy. This operation already has signs of being an abject failure. You don’t get regime change by targeting schools and killing young girls. Military officials tried to warn Trump that the U.S. was not prepared for a drawn-out war, and offered no assurances of success. Well, that’s what we’re likely going to get now. What happens when the interceptor defenses are emptied, and Iran is still launching drones and missiles?

Good luck with that, much more likely to piss em off and unify them.

…for the benefit of Israel…

It has never really been explained how it benefits anyone else

I can explain it to you. The ayatollahs for decades have stirred up trouble by supplying money and arms to proxies such as the Houthis. That’s the same Houthis that cost my home (Egypt) billions in Suez transit fees. The same Houthis that fired missiles that didn’t always make it to Israel but instead landed in Dahab. So Egypt will be just one of the countries that will benefit if the mullahs are removed from power.

So why isn’t Egypt handling it? They fought Yemen in the 1960s.

The ayatollahs were right. The US are the great satan. They just couldn’t imagine that it was also the great pedophile.

These people commenting are fringe lunatics with terminal tds. They are so pathetic that if Trump found a cure for cancer they would refuse. I dislike Trump but these people here are fanatics. If regime change happens in Iran and the evil despotic religious fanatics are replaced with a normal government I am wondering if that would be a benefit to its oppressed citizens and the world.

Don’t peace prizes come in cereal boxes? Maybe McDonald’s has a happy meal that comes with a peace prize.
