Winning trade wars is so easy that U.S. Set to Give Huawei Another 90 Days to Buy from American Suppliers.
The U.S. Commerce Department is expected to extend a reprieve given to Huawei Technologies that permits the Chinese firm to buy supplies from U.S. companies so that it can service existing customers, two sources familiar with the situation said.
The “temporary general license” will be extended for Huawei for 90 days, sources said.
An extension will renew an agreement set to lapse on August 19, continuing the Chinese company’s ability to maintain existing telecommunications networks and provide software updates to Huawei handsets.
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to discuss Huawei in a call this weekend, one of the sources said.
The U.S. government blacklisted Huawei alleging the Chinese company is involved in activities contrary to national security or foreign policy interests. The United States says Huawei’s smartphones and network equipment could be used by China to spy on Americans, allegations the company has repeatedly denied.
Sham Allegation or Foolish Response?
If China is indeed a security threat Trump should not use Huawei as a bargaining chip nor should the US supply Huawei with parts.
Either Trump’s reprieve is foolish or the charges are a lie. Which is it?
Second question: Who is it that seems desperate for a deal? Trump or China?

The survey is flawed. It doesn’t allow all possible answer. Please add a forth option “neither nor”.
One must recognize that when the possible answers are:
(1) Either X
(2) Or Y
(3) Both
Then, there must be a fourth possibility:
(4) Neither nor
Meanwhile, the host website (moneymaven) has pretty much shut down. Eight authors, but only Mish posts more than once per month. The other guy who posts often is mirroring his own site — doesn’t post to moneymaven.
Most of the authors haven’t posted in months (or years).
No point in complaining about bias to a website that can’t afford to lose Mish. Mish and his left wing parrots is all they have
Watch Mish demonstrate his bias again when the midwest USA wakes up!
He will of course delete my comments because I dare question his unbias claims
He will not delete any of the anti-Trump comments. He even goes so far as to “agree with 1-3 but not 4″… proving he reads the anti Trump comments and lets them stand unchallenged.
For all of Mish’s claims to being unbiased in deleting comments, I notice the anti-Trumpers NEVER get deleted. They see Mish bashing Trump, and chime right in, parroting Mish’s bias.
Anti-Trumpers@Sechel @Realist @CautiousObserver don’t get deleted no matter how many times they agree with Mish against Trump
Well of course not. Mish does not have a policy against agreeing with him. Almost nobody in the world does. Duh!
You seem to be saying that Mish, as he goes about deleting comments, should delete 3 anti-Trump comments for every 3 “pro-Trump” comments, to prove he is even-handed. It seems beyonnd your imagination to think that Mish has other considerations than partisan Trump points for and against.
I dare you to write an entry detailing how economic logic supports tariffs — I’m sure Mish will let it stand even if completely erroneous.
I looked all over the place, and tried doing a site search, looking for a blog post where Left-wing Mish says anything nice about Trump… Such a post does not exist or can not be found with a search.
Mish has Trump Derangement Syndrome.
And he is VERY sensitive about it… he will delete this comment as soon as he sees it because he can’t handle the truth
Mish voted for Trump. If Trumps economic actions are stupid they are stupid….doesn’t matter what party he represents. Trump sold himself as the best this, the best that, negotiator. When in fact he’s not, never was. He’s just a bully. Im not sure if you visited China lately but this is not the China of the 1960s. They wont be bullied. If I was China I would allow some spoiled, insecure rich kid to bully me either.
Don’t bother feeding this troll. I had a back and forth with him in the gold thread and he won’t address any points you raise. He’s only here to vent, or something along those lines.
10-4
Yep. I believe its his 3rd or 4th profile of the month.
Find the post where Mish says something nice about Trump.
You can not.
So go ahead and parrot each other like good little anti-Trumpers. Mish will be pleased.
Mish is not a left winger.
Implying that Mish is a cryto-leftist is a little beyond idiotic. Although I find Mish to be somewhat dogmatic about certain ideological points, he is certainly not partisan, insofar as that is possible in today’s America (like trying to be a pacifist on a street where the snipers gun people down who want to go to a store). The problem with certain Trump partisans in the comments here is that they think Trump can do no wrong, no matter how crazy, otherwise you are abetting the enemy! Try to keep you comments germane to history or economic policy, and there will be no problem. Or go all in offending your host and litter the comments with absurd ad hominem insults. I’m sure banging your head against the wall even more will eventually line up your power to reason. Or not.

Huawei is indeed a threat, to the american PRISM project
“I don’t live in your shithole country” So you hate this country and its President. Am I surprised? Get a life.
Sorry that comment was in reply to @Realist.
I assume none of you has read about the ongoing negotiations… also, everyone who disagrees with Mish seems to disappear from this forum sooner or later. Just sayin’

agree with 1-3 but not 4
Wilson, FDR, George W Bush, LBJ at the top of my list
You forgot Reagan – not as bad as Trump, who is #1 most useless idiot to sit in the Oval office, but Raegan was up there with him – remember this is the guy who though he could recall ICBMs and had his finger on the button. Obviously this wasn’t his only foolishness, but it would have been his worst.
Seriously Reagan?? You leftists morons will stop at nothing to further you idiotic idelogy.
Agree on the Wilson mention, the worst ever IMO. Signing Prohibition into law may not have even been in his top 5 blunders!
I usually don’t consider any recent Presidents in this list, but if I did GW Bush is clearly the worst. He brought us the 9/11 surveillance state, the Forever Wars, and TARP. It speaks volumes that he killed the Bush brand, culminating in Jeb’s 2016 humiliation. It’s difficult to find anyone willing to defend W nowadays.
FDR is bad, but my least favorite thing about him is rarely mentioned, his Bitter Lake agreement with the Saudis. Sure, he hammered out the petrodollar standard, but he idiotically accepted the Saudi provision to let them spread Wahhabism however they want. That looms large more than 70 years later, and it devastated large swaths of the Arab/Sunni world before anybody in the US ever heard of Bin Laden and his ilk. Check out pics from Sunni countries (even Afghanistan!) from the ’50s to the ’70s and compare them to today. They faced a radically reactionary swing and we cheered the whole thing on.
Anyone idiotic enough to propose I am “Far Left” is going to have all their comments deleted as soon as I see them. That means if you make a reply to that person your reply will be deleted as well.
The moronic thing about the comment is that I proposed FDR and LBJ as among the worst presidents.
Moreover, I tend to bash the president in power: Bush, then Obama, then Trump.
Anyone with half a brain could spot the pattern. Finally, I have praised several things Trump has done.
Clearly non-partisan.
Awfully sensitive to the far left charge for someone who is claims to be non partisan Mish!
Yeah yeah, you will delete yet another commenter who dares to question your almightyness. Just proves you know there is a problem
Yes, Wilson (“He Kept us out of War until 90 days after inauguration”) is by far the worst president in American history. Then there is the Income Tax and the Federal Reserve Act and his ridiculous “fourteen points” which led to the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. It would be fair to say that this fool did more damage to the country and rest of the world than all other US presidents combined.
I saw this after I wrote a similar comment. Your list of bad Presidents would mirror mine (with a few more added). Trump is a clown and a fool but we have had much worse. I still recall Bush’s “New World Order” speeches and he CIA all the way. Also his setting up Iraq with lies so they would move to stop Iran slant-drilling while the US goaded Saddam to start the war. Butchers in DC killed millions after that talk.
Huawei’s founder Ren already said a few month ago that the 90 days exoneration was not helping at all.
I imagine China has noticed that recent US trade policies look like short term posturing, possibly orchestrated by the Keystone Cops. I doubt we are going to earn any meaningful long term concessions from them with these tactics.
