The Wall Street Journal reports Trump Calls for Jailing of Chicago Mayor and Illinois Governor
President Trump escalated his battle with Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, saying the Democratic leaders should be imprisoned for failing to protect ICE officers.
“Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also!,” Trump said Wednesday on Truth Social.
Trump didn’t specify what laws Johnson or Pritzker allegedly broke.
“This is not the first time Trump has tried to have a Black man unjustly arrested,” Johnson said on social media. “I’m not going anywhere.”
Pritzker responded on social media by saying: “I will not back down. Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power. What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?”
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been carrying out raids in Chicago that have led to protests in the city. The Trump administration has responded by federalizing the National Guard in Illinois, drawing criticism from Democratic elected officials in the state.
Roughly 500 soldiers—300 from the Illinois National Guard and 200 from Texas—are present in the greater Chicago area, according to U.S. Northern Command.
Trump has sparred with several Democratic-led states over his efforts to deploy troops on U.S. soil, citing a need to protect immigration officials and manage crime. He told reporters Tuesday: “Chicago’s a great city, but you can’t be a great city if you have murders and if you have a lot of problems, and they do.”
What’s It Really About?
- Perhaps Trump just makes trolling comments to get a reaction.
- Perhaps it’s just Trump being Trump. He is impulsive and frequently talks and acts without thinking.
- Perhaps it’s a purposeful diversion to get people’s minds off inflation, the cost of housing, and a labor market that’s going to hell.
I suspect it’s a bit of all three.
Government economic reports are mostly suspended and there is a death of other economic reports. So I’ll troll back.

For the record, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is the worst mayor in the country, corrupt as hell.
The same applies to Governor Pritzker. But there is no law that says either has to help ICE.
Illinois pension plans are insolvent, and when they go bust I hope a a Republican is in the White House.

Taxation is an attribute of Sovereignty. That over which the taxation agent is not sovereign is not an acceptable object to tax. A State cannot tax any federal property nor charge a sales tax for federal purchases. [immune is the word used].
Article IV, Section 4, of the Constitution requires the federal government to “guarantee” a “Republican” form of government to the Sovereign Citizens. The Preamble affirms that mandate. The clause of “Liberty” in the Fifth Amendment has been adjudicated to include the “Right to Pursue a Livelihood” as a Constitutional asset. Such Rights are not subject to taxation or conditions.
The 16th Amendment is written to remove the condition of an excise tax [income tax] to be conditioned upon a privilege being received by the taxed object [Sovereign Citizen]. Basic core Constitutional values cannot be negated by amendment. The 16th Amendment is an effort to overthrow a Constitutional Right to Sovereignty. It is a coup. Enforcement of a coup would be treason. The Amendment cannot be enforced.

well, what legal basis does any mayor or governor have to say they will ignore federal laws, and refuse to cooperate with feds, or whatever else is involved in creating “sanctuary status” Since the first one I read about, I wondered how they could do that. That means a state or city can ignore any federal law it wants to. The first mayor to do that should have been prosecuted by whoever was in office. Now we have 15 million illegals in by virtue of ignoring more laws, and here we are.

It’s quite obvious that Pritzker & Johnson have become extremely belligerent towards DHS personnel doing their jobs. In fact, I would say they are now taking steps that are impeding DHS personnel from effectively enforcing US immigration laws.
The latest DoJ list of jurisdictions include 13 states, 4 counties, & 18 cities. While Bondi has sued several states & cities, she needs to just open up a can up whup ass on everyone and directly sue all 35 of these jurisdictions.
The point is that SCOTUS needs to be forced to rule on the legality of any & all sanctuary city policies ASAP. IMHO, these policies are clearly usurping federal immigration authority & are likely unconstitutional.

If the GOP had 7 more votes in the Senate, oh hell yes they could be punished greatly. In fact, Congress could explicitly pass a law that bans sanctuary cities.
The policy is the target, not the individuals. And going after the states isn’t going to be as controversial as going after individuals like Johnson & Pritzker. One could make the assumption that optics is the reason why Trump / Bondi haven’t pulled the trigger.

Yes, the fire was started by an arsonist, but the climate change induced drought allowed the fire to spread more quickly. The fact is that there have always been and always will be arsonists and the federalized national guard will not be able to preemptively stop arsonists but we can and should be taking steps to minimize droughts.
Invading a city with the national guard may be a quick fix to crime but it is performative and temporary and has no lasting effect. Crime increases in inflationary times and maybe Trump needs to sit his fat ass down at the Resolute desk and actually work on our out of control inflation instead of sitting his fat ass on his golden toilet and tweeting.

I think you need to drop the Biden crime family. Even assuming that all the accusations are true, that involved less than $15 million and Biden doing actions that he was otherwise looking to do (such as pushing to remove Ukrainian official for corruption).

I’m not going to justify anything Biden did. But at least I understand his motivation for the pardons – Trump is a uniquely vindictive man.
However, I disagree that Trump is a clean president. He just hasn’t been brought to justice. First, the Supreme Court basically said he is immune from prosecution. Second, the Democrats do not have the votes to convict him in the senate. And third, the Republican Party refuses to hold him accountable for anything.
And just wait until he is on his way out of the office for all his pardons for his friends and family.

There are things I like about Trump and things I don’t. Yes, I voted for him. I think it’s disgraceful that the Mayor and Governor of Illinois (both dirtbags) would not want to assist ICE. I don’t for the life of me understand why both parties can’t come up with a foreign worker VISA program. I’m not talking H1B, but other types of jobs i.e. construction, landscaping, etc. The foreign worker would pay into Social Security and Medicare and would NOT get a penny of that. That’s for the opportunity to be here. It would be for a period of time and expire, then you reup. I would apply each year worked towards a quicker way to be a citizen, but you still apply! Also, ANYONE who is applying for citizenship should pay a hefty fee ($100,000) and similar for family members. You got to have a stake in the system! Also, sponsors for healthcare and that applies to both foreign worker on a work VISA or new, legally entered citizens.
There has to be accountability.
Years ago, I worked in an affluent community. The staff there told me how Indian doctors (from India) bring their family members to America and get them on Medicaid. This cannot be! In this sense, I support Trump. No one in both parties is discussing this while we are wracking up more and more debt and societal chaos.
At this point there are more things I don’t like about him – mainly being Netanyahu’s puppet, being fiscally profligate and being totally owned by the neocons and the military industrial complex. There are still a couple things I like about him – like saying Pritzker should be in prison.

I will say that, when Biden was in power .. MS seemed antiBiden. Now that Trump is in power, he seems antiTrump. That probably means he is mostly just intent on holding feet to the fire on whowever is in charge. The fact that the last 2 have both done plenty that any detractor can pick up on is what makes it seem more biased (but again, biased against left, then biased against right).
I believe Brandon Johnson has done the impossible … unseated Lori Lightfoot as the nation’s worst mayor. He is horrible, and Pritzker and his family thrusting the trans agenda into the spotlight and causing the social contagion that even Bill Maher is callign out means he is a jerk. They create a team where Trump could look like a shining star in comparison. Trump, sadly, drops right down with them, sometimes going lower. Part of me gets that … but I don’t know the legality of using the Guard … especially against the will of the local leaders. While I avoid those high crime areas … it seems like the charletons who rule them have people convinced that continuing to vote for them is their best option. Until the locals decide to make a change … I’m jjust not sure the fed has a role to play in bringing sanity to a place that chooses insanity.

Only thing is, and maybe I just missed a few … he shut down the border down on day 1 quite successfully. One can never be 100% closed, but the free flow has ended. That was a big thing. The progress he has made on the debt is somewhere between insigificant and laughable … but he has done a pretty good job on inflation. The fact that I had to pay huge cap gains on money that was only a small real gain … is largely thanks to inflatioin. I had high hopes of Ukraine progress … but I am still hopeful there and with Gaza. We shall see.
