Trump Says ‘I think the war is very complete, pretty much’

Great. When do we send in the troops? Or is the surrender idea over?

Complete, Pretty Much

The Wall Street Journal reports Stocks Bounce on Trump War-Progress Comments.

Stocks rallied and oil fell after CBS News reported that President Trump said the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran was “very far ahead of schedule” and “very complete, pretty much.”

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, slid below $90 a barrel after the presiden’t comments. It had surged overnight, hitting its highest intraday level since mid-2022. The U.S. benchmark dropped to about $85 a barrel, after surging above $119 earlier.

Stocks opened the session lower, but pared declines as the oil slide moderated, then rallied into the close after Trump’s latest remarks. The Nasdaq composite led indexes with a gain of 1.4%. The Dow industrials rose 239 points after being down almost 900 points in early trading.

One turning point came when France’s finance minister said the Group of Seven advanced economies was prepared to release strategic oil reserves to stabilize the global energy market if necessary. The remarks came after an extraordinary meeting of the group and as Gulf oil producers cut production amid shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

The bond markets remained volatile, with the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield pushing above 4.2% before retreating back near 4.1%. The dollar climbed. Investors fear the energy-price spike could feed inflation and dampen growth, raising the specter of stagflation.

Questions Abound

If the war is very much complete, why are things like this happening?

If the war is very much complete, what the hell is Lindsey Graham yapping about?

Why are we evacuating embassies?

I would be happy to declare the war over, but need I remind you of the Irony of the Day: Trump Demands ‘Unconditional Surrender’ by Iran Without Declaring War

Unconditional surrender will take boots on the ground.

Or did Iran just surrender?

But they don’t have no knowledge / information about Iran’s missile programs, drone programs, Iran’s preparation for long war.

They are trying to jawbone. The truth is Trump is backing down like he always does when challenged. Donny was once a bully but now has his head so far up Putin’s ass that it will remain there for eternity. Its not a coincidence that Trump talks to Putin to be told what to do. Even the Republican party is owned by Putin. It will all come out eventually but the idiots who voted for Trump deserve every bit of pain possible in their personal lives.

Ryan Grim: (the Gulf States) are expressing a lot of outrage about this. One of the most powerful businessmen in the UAE, who was a former business partner of Trump himself, put out this long statement saying, you know, Mr. President, your excellency who gave you the right to do this, who authorized you to set this region on fire?
They’re, they’re also frustrated by the fact that Israel gets most of the treatment when it comes to missile defense, despite the fact that, you know, (the Gulf states) mostly pay for those.

Trump and SPR – just another lie:
“In January 2025, the newly elected President Donald Trump declared a “national energy emergency” during his inaugural address. His proposed remedy included a pledge to refill the country’s emergency petroleum reserves.
“We will bring prices down, fill our strategic reserves up again right to the top, and export American energy all over the world,” Trump said.”

1year later it’s still only at ~60% full.

Saudi’s don’t join b/e they view this as a ‘suck up to Israel’, and not to a regional benefit.
I 100% agree! We’ve sucked up to israel TOO MUCH AND FOR WAY TOO LONG.

“This is not Saudi Arabia’s war. This conflict is largely driven by Israel’s expansionist ambitions, with Israel taking the lead rather than the United States. Attempts to involve Saudi Arabia in a war that does not serve the region risk further destabilizing the Middle East.”

IRGC says Iran, not US, will determine the war’s end
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a direct challenge to the United States regarding the trajectory of the ongoing conflict, asserting that Iran—not Washington—will dictate its conclusion.
Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naeini, the IRGC spokesperson, has addressed recent claims made by US President Donald Trump, dismissing them as inaccurate attempts to manage domestic and regional pressures.
In a formal statement posted on semi-official news agency Tasnim, Naeini emphasized that the initiative remains firmly with Tehran.
“We are the ones who will determine the end of this war,” Naeini declared, highlighting that the Islamic Republic has maintained control over the regional equations defining the conflict.
He added that the armed forces of the Islamic Republic, in the event of continued aggression by the US military and the Zionist entity against the Iranian people and essential infrastructure, will not permit the export of a single liter of oil from the region to the aggressor and its partners until further notice, emphasizing that their attempts to control oil and gas prices will be temporary and futile.
The IRGC spokesperson has further underscored Iran’s military readiness for a prolonged engagement, noting that its armed forces have not yet deployed their full range of advanced strategic capabilities.
Naeini has cautioned that the United States has relied on miscalculations regarding Iran’s resilience, emphasizing that the country’s defense infrastructure has remained operative despite the ongoing hostilities.

Middle East War Pushes Gulf Monarchies to Reconsider Trillion-Dollar Investments Several countries in the Persian Gulf are seriously considering declaring force majeure on some of their financial obligations to Western partners and potentially suspending major investment commitments. The discussions reflect growing concerns about the economic consequences of the military operation conducted by the United States and Israel against Iran, according to a report by The Financial Times.

Trump explained it beautifully today. Iran’s navy sunk. Their planes gone. Missiles and drones running out. No more weapons for the Islamists. We are systematically disarming them FOREVER. Our laser interceptors are on the way. The shipping channel WILL be open soon. We OWN those waters now. Islamist can go back to their prime spiritual directive of endless primitive war amongst themselves, but they will NEVER be permitted to have power in OUR world. They are kaput.

Their navy was never really the issue and their planes were old probably parked in underground hangars. Saw a pretty cool blowup decoy video of missile launchers, fighter jets & tanks using for removing surgical strike capability on worthless targets. USA & Israel are not acting like they have control of Iran’s air space. Their military strength demonstrated day after day is drones & missiles operated by autonomous units which have blinded surrounding radar. China & Russia are supportive allies. Doubtful the Strait of Hormuz will be open soon majority of oil & other tankers possess few anti drone defenses. Just have to target the desalinization plants in majority of countries (5 in Israel produce 80% of their water).

Great, now we’ve allegedly destroyed their third or fourth rate Navy. Fantastic. Color me unimpressed, even if it’s true. Same with their 50 year old Air Force.

And yay our under capable, not ready for prime-time laser defense systems are ‘on their way’. So if they are the Wunderwaffe that you seem to imply, then why are we just getting around to deploying them now? I thought the Iranian missile threat is kaput.

The shipping channel will be open ‘soon’… when is that pray tell? Trump says it will be so, so it can’t be wrong, right?

We are at the beginning of this conflict, regardless of what Trump says. He’s got the attention span of a common fly, and is about as smart. To neutralize the threat of iran, there must be an occupying force and war inside Iran to root out the religious leaders who have destroyed the country. Without that, they will rebuild their rocket program, navy and air force. The entire world has had enough of the Mullahs running that country. You can’t destroy an Islamic idea, but you can outlaw it, just as we neutralized ideology in Germany and Japan. That’s what needs to happen and the Gulf states can mount the invasion to remove the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, and disarm the country. It’ll take years of civil war to do it. The Mullahs won’t go quietly. It will take force. I doubt that Trump will take the political risks to invade but that’s what needs to happen.

Ignorance and bigotry can be cured with artificial intelligence:

In terms of raw mentions of killing, destruction, and violence, some software-based analyses have found that the Bible—specifically the Old Testament—contains a higher frequency of violent content than the Quran.

  • Old Testament: Research using text analytics (such as the Odin Text study) has found that the Old Testament contains roughly 5.3% mentions of “destruction and killing.”
  • New Testament: Mentions are slightly higher than the Quran at approximately 2.8%.
  • Quran: Mentions of “destruction and killing” appeared in about 2.1% of the text.

Are you ready to condemn the Torah as the worst by 2x, followed by the New Testament? I’m here to help. You’re welcome!

I hope the Islamic State of Iran is completely disarmed, but Trump is a serious idiot who can’t shut his mouth, which makes him sound as dumb as he is. That being said, this war against the Mullahs needed to happen because they’re more of a rogue state than N. Korea; Iran threatens their Arab neighbors, and provokes violence in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, Israel, you name it. There needs to be an invasion to remove the Islamic state’s insane Muslim leadership because they’ve wrecked their own country and damaged many other countries, so be it. Their attack on Gulf states is an obvious example of how dangerous they are, so those states should invade and occupy Iran, control it through martial law until it’s stable with a non-religious government…preferably some kind of republic that’s peaceful. Iran needs to be completely disarmed as we did with Germany and Japan. The UN has no business there, mostly because it’s a useless organization that just stands around while waring factions fire on each other.

This talk from Trump is expected.

The global economy will collapse without the oil and LNG that are normally shipped through the strait of Hormuz. And the price of oil will keep rising, unless something calms the waters. Trump is trying to give hope that the war will soon be over, the oil will soon flow again, and that prices can come back down as a result.

And it worked; today. The oil price had risen sharply overnight, and has now come back down, thanks to Trump’s words of optimism.

He might be able to manipulate the price for a day or two, but if his words don’t match what we see happening in the strait and in the war, the price will go back up, because the physical shortage will grow.

Well the other thing is that the cost structure has already changed. Insurance companies will want higher premiums, ship operators want higher rates, crews will want hazard pay, etc. All of this will result in inflation even if we woke up tomorrow to a peaceful middle east (which is a stretch).

Meanwhile, Asian economies are slowing energy starving to death. Then you’ll have the fallout from that too.

Trump wants to declare victory and go home. The US and Israel are out of interceptors and are unable to defend against Iranian missiles.

Iran would be insane to accept a ceasefire at this point. The US is apparently on the ropes. Iran should insist that it will not accept a ceasefire, and will keep the Hormuz blockade intact until all US military assets are out of the Middle East, and all sanctions are dropped. In no uncertain terms it should dictate that should the US return, the blockade will be re-instated, and the war would resume.

If the US balks at these conditions Iran should continue sporadic missile strikes on Israeli and US targets until Trump capitulates and slinks away.

It would be foolish to trust Trump. He needs to be slapped down or he will return after he is able to rearm.

Let’s hope Trump is right. He has a record of getting things right in the end. My worry is about what happens when he has to retire. Usually when a competent man retires, the fools take over again. We can’t afford that now, with the dollar and debt the way they are, and China still building its strength.

Has anyone told Iran that the war is mostly over? Anyone in Trump’s inner circle and administration, including family, friends, etc., Should be barred from trading the market during this period of self induced volatility. This is the type of market where the big money is made and those with inside information make the most.

If you need any guidelines from recent history then the Ukraine war was going to be over within 24 hours, remember? My only question is whether “pretty much over” is less than 24 hours or more…

Trump’s an idiot; only an idiot would have been reckless enough to embark on this war, but that being said, it wasn’t a completely insane idea because Iran is a rogue state that makes a lot more trouble than N. Korea. Now that they’re weakened, an invasion force must go in and remove the revolutionary guard who will surely kill thousands more of their own people and create havoc for the rest of the world. The Revolutionary guard are Islamic Nazis that must be removed, and it will take force and a lot of fighting. They are a death cult….that is the nature of modern Islam….it’s written in their holy books….Read them.

Trumpstien wants them to overthrow their oppressive government and then submit to rule by him. I don’t think there are any Iranians that will stand for that.

Come to think of it, American shouldn’t stand for that.

Feels like this is the type of statement that someone would make to manipulate the price of oil/futures. Then again, the entire series of events that preceded this statement could be viewed the same way.

That is exactly what it is. The statement Trump made has such a broad meaning that the war could go in any direction and he’d essentially be right. “The war ‘could’ be over ‘soon.’” “Could” and “soon” have lots of meanings.

So when will the market stop pretending to believe that this is real and go back to actual bona fide price discovery?

I guess we’ll see what happens tonight and tomorrow.
