Trump Warns Israel and Iran Following Major War Escalation

Israel attacked a major Iranian facility and Iran countered. Trump warned both sides.

New Phase of the Iran War

The Wall Street Journal reports Escalating Attacks on Gulf Energy Assets Plunge Iran War Into New Phase

Escalating attacks on Persian Gulf oil-and-gas infrastructure are sending the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran into a dangerous new phase that threatens to worsen the crisis over global energy supplies.

Israel struck at the crown jewel of Iran’s energy industry on Wednesday—the giant South Pars gas field that Iran shares with Qatar and is by far the largest in the world. Iran retaliated with two attacks on a major gas hub in Qatar just across the Gulf and a missile barrage fired at the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with debris landing near a refinery.

Israel and Iran had already hit energy facilities throughout the nearly three-week-old war, but Wednesday’s attacks struck some of the world’s most important hubs and raised the prospect of tit-for-tat volleys against oil-and-gas facilities. Already, the conflict has effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic chokepoint between the Persian Gulf and the wider world that carries about 20% of the global oil and liquefied-natural gas supply during normal times.

The U.S., which had previously pledged to rein in attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure, was informed of the plan ahead of time and had no issues with it, American and Israeli officials said Wednesday.

President Trump approved of the strike, U.S. officials said, to pressure Iran to unblock the Strait of Hormuz. The officials said Trump believed Tehran received the message and wants to refrain from further strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.

On Wednesday night, Trump denied that the U.S. knew in advance about Israel’s attack on South Pars. “The United States knew nothing about this particular attack” on South Pars, Trump said.

“Unfortunately, Iran did not know this, or any of the pertinent facts pertaining to the South Pars attack, and unjustifiably and unfairly attacked a portion of Qatar’s LNG Gas facility,” he said on social media, referring to Iran’s retaliatory strikes on Qatar’s liquefied-natural gas hub that was hit once on Wednesday and again on Thursday morning local time. “NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL,” Trump added.

The president went on to say that if Iran strikes Qatar’s gas hub again, the U.S. “will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”

Iran’s missile attack later Wednesday on Ras Laffan, where Qatar has facilities for gas pumped from its side of the giant field, left extensive damage and set fires after four missiles were intercepted and one got through.

Benchmark Brent oil futures shot up to close to $110 a barrel, and European gas prices surged 6% in the hours following the news. Traders were pricing in the risk that Iran could keep attacking Gulf energy infrastructure and worsen a supply crisis that has already removed millions of barrels of oil from global supply.

“It opens the door to more infrastructure attacks in the region,” said Neil Crosby of the Geneva-based market-intelligence company Sparta Commodities.

There is no reason to believe the world’s biggest liar on who knew what when. But Trump’s threat to escalate the war further is believable.

Trump on the Escalation

Truth Social: Israel, out of anger for what has taken place in the Middle East, has violently lashed out at a major facility known as South Pars Gas Field in Iran. A relatively small section of the whole has been hit. The United States knew nothing about this particular attack, and the country of Qatar was in no way, shape, or form, involved with it, nor did it have any idea that it was going to happen. Unfortunately, Iran did not know this, or any of the pertinent facts pertaining to the South Pars attack, and unjustifiably and unfairly attacked a portion of Qatar’s LNG Gas facility. NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar – In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before. I do not want to authorize this level of violence and destruction because of the long term implications that it will have on the future of Iran, but if Qatar’s LNG is again attacked, I will not hesitate to do so. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Financial Times

Iran hit the site of the world’s largest liquefied natural gas facility in Qatar with a ballistic missile, inflicting “extensive damage” in retaliation for an attack on the Islamic republic’s South Pars gasfield. The attack on Wednesday marks a significant escalation in the Middle East war and threatens major repercussions for global energy markets. Qatar is the second-largest exporter of LNG in the world, and the biggest supplier to Asia. Qatar’s defence ministry said on X that Iran had fired five ballistic missiles, with four intercepted and one hitting Ras Laffan, a huge industrial complex that is home to state-owned QatarEnergy’s LNG plants and a fuel refinery. It is also the location of Shell’s $18bn Pearl GTL plant, which turns gas into chemical feedstocks and fuel.

Analysts said the attack had the potential to cause a “lasting global gas shortage” depending on the scale of the damage, as Ras Laffan is normally responsible for about a fifth of global LNG supplies.

“Even when the war ends, the impact on supply could last months or even years as repairs are undertaken,” said Saul Kavonic, energy analyst at MST Financial.

Israel attacked a major Iranian facility and Iran countered.

Trump warned both sides.

The whole displacement of blame on Israel is standard playbook plausible deniability. That’s the whole point of having proxy wars!
Don’t believe a word of it ! Just PR.

They have told us there is a unified target deck.
How can Israeli & US planes operate in the same area without deconfliction and communication?

Technically, Israel can do nothing without active hands-on US agency:

  • How can Israel get to Iran? Need to cross American controlled and patrolled air space
  • Needs to deconflict: friend or foe; Stand-down American Air Defense
  • Needs refueling assets
  • Needs EW, EW escort, and flanking squadrons
  • Needs American interceptors, ordinance, and weapons
  • Needs American ISR & Satellites
  • For targeting, terrein mapping, flight and launch paths, real time reconnaissance and signals intelligence
  • Needs hands-on American agency to configure decryption modules for signals intel
  • Needs American technical maintenance and operational expertise
  • Utilizes American radar, air defense, AWACs
  • The US has in hand the remote on/off switch to the whole Israel project
  • Israel has been an ongoing American project since its inception and is completely dependent for financial and military support

Maybe blocking the “Straight” of Hormuz is the whole point.
Goading Iran (and Israel) into doing so lends all the more plausible deniability.

The effect? The effect have been to cut China off of oil imports.
What have the jarheads been talking about for decades?
About using maritime chokepoints to throttle and control China.
Yes yes. In the media they call it Freedom of Navigation exercises.

The President is just the salesman for deeper currents of deep state policy.
He is like a monkey on the deck of a super tanker, distracting onlookers with all kinds of amusing antics.

Trump asked for other nations to help. Smartly they refused. Bibi bombs facilities provoking retaliation. Strike. Other nations will be forced to choose a side due to escalation. If i was iran for every ship that goes through the straight i would attack the infrastructure it came from. Bet trump is not prepared for that.
Leads to bigger connections.
Trump guts renewables. Why i used to think it was because no jobs for voters/ no profits for investors. Which is true. Its actually they have you by the economic balls. Think russia and the eu. If it wasnt for oil we would not care about the mid east. Israel would not have a war.
Next take over Venezuela. Find a puppet that will play ball. Dole oil out to us to control voters/ or to other counties for support.
Three start limited war which will end up not so limited trying for the downfall of iran.
Oh yeah profit along the way.
All because there are a bunch of pedos who want a distraction from the files.

Heads up everyone: I had a minor account hacked last night, probably using a password from a data leak. I know two others at work that had credit taken out in their names yesterday.

They used the leaked password to set a new password, and changed the response emails so I can’t reset it.

They drowned the notification emails in 7000 or so spam emails that got right through google’s filter (somebody is shitting nickels at google this morning), and contain such a variety of terms that it’s impossible to use search to weed them out.

Apple’s passwords app has a security section that will tell you which addresses are suspect. It will also generate passwords that language models can’t guess.

I’m going to change all of my passwords, starting with iCloud, then all mail accounts, then all financial accounts, and try and work through the rest.

Data leaks have been a major password vulnerability that we’ve all avoided fixing because it isn’t fun to change passwords.

Somebody’s mad at us now, and it’s graduated from a vulnerability to an immediate problem.

Change your passwords!

The play might be to take over the entire Persian Gulf access and Qatar at the same time to consolidate Ras Laffan?

Unfortunately, Iran has nothing left to loose so massive infrastructure losses are likely in what is becoming a regional (uncivil) war.

Your point that Iran has nothing left to lose is key. Israel wants to turn Iran into another Syria, with multiple factions battling each other. The US politicians just want to pay back the Israeli financial contributions they receive.

I absolutely believe that if the US tries to take Kharg Island, the Iranians will blow it up (along with other oil and gas infrastructure in the ME) rather than let America or Israel control it. Iran saw what Israel has done to Palestinians and sees that Israel is in the process of trying to turn Beirut into Gaza. That is the future for Iran if they surrender, they know that, and so they will continue to fight because they have nothing to lose.

Iranians probably feel like Ukrainians do about the attack on their country, and I expect the war in Iran to last at least as long as the Ukraine war has. If Iran/Ukraine were to agree to a ceasefire, they understand that it is just a matter of time before they are attacked by Israel/Russia again (Putin previously took Crimea and US/Israel bombed Iran just last year). They know that the cycle will continue, which is why they want their attackers disincentivized from coming back and doing it again. Nations and people generally act in their own self-interest (except for America who seem more focused on Israel’s interests than solving healthcare or economic problems).

Russia is the big winner in the Iran war, and they will continue to help Iran fight just like the West has tried to help Ukraine fight. Meanwhile, China is smiling and will wait until the US has largely expended its military resources before calmly taking Taiwan.

The thing I can’t seem to wrap my head around, is why was the field so vulnerable in the first place. They claim it’s the “World’s Largest” LNG Facility. That makes no sense that the Countries (Middle East) utilizing this Facility, would have teamed up with some sort of protection plan they could all pay together to implement. Sure beats the heck out of the chaos now, and so much less expensive back then Vs. Now.

I also was under the impression that there middle attacks were severely limited, if not nearly gone completely. I have to ask why The Trump Administration didn’t do the same, and get involved with these leaders to do so, and offer to assist in any ways possible. Any “Primary Target” for life for any Country should be heavily protected and they all should chip in so they are all protected.

This may have caused lasting damage, well beyond any hopeful peace agreement, and perhaps just made it more difficult from a trust perspective. This didn’t have to happen, and has been overlooked as: That won’t happen! Well I guess it just did…

Trump moved all the anti-missile batteries to Israel. Ironically, Israel is still getting pummeled.

Which brings me to another thought.

The premise of all the religious stuff in Israel is that God will come down from heaven protect/save Israel and kill everyone but the Jews. Other religions believe God will come down from heaven and everyone except members of that particular religion will be killed.

I guess the bombs will need to keep falling until one or the other is proved the right one but I suspect all that will happen is a pile of rubble will emerge.

Stu

Reply to  MPO45v2

Trump moving all the anti-missile batteries to Israel wasn’t too bright, and especially given the fact that he thought their capabilities were damaged, but not non-existent.

Maybe Trump suspected it, or perhaps was ok with it? Much of it seems to invite the current situation, and by no means deter it.

The religious stuff I don’t follow much. I have a hard enough time keeping up with my own religion, and meeting my own personal expectations of what goodness is. Not enough time to delve into another one.

Sadly I suspect you will be correct, and in the end, all that will happen is a pile of rubble will emerge. Again it leads back to my earlier point, that some things were overlooked, missed, or purposefully not done. Maybe all 3! Something is amiss…

Quite true. The  U.S. is providing active, direct air defense for Israel as part of a joint military campaign. In contrast, in the Gulf states the US role is primarily defensive and focused just on protecting U.S. bases. When it comes to defending targets beyond these, the US has basically told the Gulfies “It’s up to you.” Apparently the GCC didn’t expect this.

This reminds me of something that happened during a previous March awhile back??…oh yeah…

Difficult to assess the magnitude of the chaos and how many companies will go belly-up on a global scale. If one thing is certain tourist industry in the Gulf region (except Oman perhaps) is dead. Ten thousands of jobs vanished into thin air. The misery this creates alone.

Let’s see if anything remains their 3rd temple can be built on. I wouldn’t bet on it.

Lots of interesting comments but none that talk about the profits that can come out of this. Guys, oil is at $113 this morning and likely to go higher every time there is a kaboom.

I don’t like this war, nothing I can do about it while Captain Ahab is running the ship (or is it Captain Bligh?) except bank a little profit and help those closest to me.

Pace yourself, I’m selling oil stocks at $120, $130, and $150ish on top of what I already sold. At $150, the whole global economy crashes, you’ll likely lose your job and will need the cash to pay the bills.

You may be unemployed for a long time as the world becomes energy starved. Inflation across the board will go parabolic.

But you MAGA clowns can think about how you owned the libs through it all.

Trump/GOP will get the blame for this for decades, worse president and GOP clowns ever.

Yes, I have been selling calls too but you need to understand I was carrying $600k worth of oil stocks and now is a great time to cash out.

Don’t worry, oil will eventually crash and so will oil stocks and guess who’ll be there to pick up those shattered pieces….

Cash is going to be king in 2026, there will be so much stuff to buy for pennies on the dollar: commercial / residential real estate, tech stocks, discretionary stocks, etc. when the crash comes.

Yes. Prices in the futures markets keep rising.

In the physical market, prices in Asia are already in a range of $120-$170 per barrel. Shortages are becoming widespread. Demand destruction is beginning. They are trying to substitute more coal and anything else they can find. It takes time to substitute. Civil unrest is already happening.

As I have been saying since this started: After two weeks, everything begins to fall apart. It is hard to underestimate the importance of energy to our ability to survive.

Still selling small portions of my oil stock holdings daily as they keep reaching new highs. This could go on for a few more weeks before collapse.

This is incredible.

South Pars, the largest gas field in the world, “shared” by Iran and Qatar, supplies Ras Laffan, the largest LNG facility in the world, owned by Qatar.

Israel attacks South Pars.

In retaliation, Iran attacks Ras Laffan.

Infuriated, Trump says he will destroy South Pars if Iran doesn’t stop.

Qatar says WTF? We own that too and we need the gas for Ras Laffan.

When the “planning” for this war began, Trump was told that Iran would never close the strait of Hormuz because it was economic suicide for the entire world and therefore unthinkable!

He was also told that it was global economic suicide to attack the oil infrastructure in the Persian Gulf.

Yet, here we are.

Originally, I also said the war would only last two weeks because any longer was economic suicide and indeed unthinkable.

Well folks, the unthinkable has happened.

Roughly a hundred years ago, after WW1, the world suffered through a pandemic and then a depression.

Funny how history repeats itself.

There are some things more important than money. There are even things more important than life. Iran was quite explicit in the lead-up to this war that they would attack all US bases in the region, attack Israel and close the Strait of Hormuz. The Empire of Lies can’t conceive of any country telling the truth because they (we) never do. Confession by projection.

The biggest surprise is that anyone could be surprised by Iran’s response.

The lie is clear

US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard admitted to lawmakers during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing in Washington that there had been “no efforts” by Iran to rebuild its nuclear enrichment capability following joint US-Israeli strikes in June 2025.

“As a result of Operation Midnight Hammer, Iran’s nuclear enrichment program was obliterated. There has been no efforts to try to rebuild their enrichment capability,” Gabbard’s statement reads.

The document said entrances to underground enrichment facilities destroyed in the strikes had been “buried and shuttered with cement.”

However, the intelligence chief did not read that portion aloud during her opening remarks. When questioned by Democratic Senator Mark Warner, she said the omission occurred because “the time was running long,” adding that she skipped parts of her prepared statement.

Trump’s boxed in here – he needs two wins to claim victory:

  • Hormuz open
  • Iran’s nukes stopped

Problem is, they pull in opposite directions.

You can reopen Hormuz with force — but then you’re stuck policing it while Iran harasses cheaply. That’s not a win, it’s a slow bleed.

On nukes, there’s no real military fix. You can hit sites, but you won’t eliminate it without boots on the ground — and that’s not happening.

So this ends the only way it really can: a bit of “over-whelming” force, then a deal dressed up as victory. This also means Trump does not need to side with either the Hegseth or Vance camps who have opposing views from each other.

Maybe something like an “international” Hormuz security solution post settlement. Looks like strength, avoids the quagmire.

Whether anything is actually solved is another question.

Amusing that it seems to be helium rather than oil that is becoming the forcing function in all this. Needed for manufacturing semiconductors (and clown shows!).

Good summary, unfortunately you missed the objective and left out the key player, Israel.

They want Iran to be turned into Iraq/Libya/Syria, a failed state. If you don’t understand that Israel runs the US government, then you have work to do. However, once that becomes clear, then the entire thing makes perfect sense.

Trump is indeed boxed in, at the moment. He certainly needs an open Strait, but he isn’t getting blamed entirely yet, as it’s Iran holding things up, but it didn’t help him, when yelling it will be open right away, with no guarantee that was the case. Many Countries need oil and Iran and the Strait is holding that up, so they are getting blamed for that and rightfully so. Letting China pass, and hold most all others hostage, only makes Trumps point that much clearer. It also makes sense that he did what he did, before it may have been way, way worse as time went on. A mess to be sure!

Time is not on the side of Iran, as oil is needed now, and they are the ONLY party holding that up. Also firing misses across the Middle East at anyone and everyone was a very bad look. That showed others why it was so critical to get this done now.

The good news, is that Iran is much more boxed in now than Trump is. They have made even more enemies, they have decreased resources to accomplish much in the way of disruption. They are down to mines and irrational fire when they have a chance, and that’s rarely.

I agree that “You can reopen Hormuz with force — but then you’re stuck policing it while Iran harasses cheaply. That’s not a win, it’s a slow bleed” There is the rub! How to open it, but not with a bullseye on your back. I think the idea is to get it in a position where we can see them before they can see us and hurt us. Eyes in the sky helps, but it’s dependent on where they are hiding. Men on the ground may be needed, or what are our swarming drone capabilities?

Not sure myself, but if we can flood the Strait with drones used for surveillance, and have them send coordinates to the fire power out of reach of Iran being able to do anything about it, and then fire at will, at every identified enemy anything. That would open it up stat!!!
Your premise “So this ends the only way it really can: a bit of “over-whelming” force, then a deal dressed up as a victory” seems pretty accurate to me. Can it be accomplished quick enough to open the Strait and shut everyone up, and start putting things in place to never allow this to happen again.
“Whether anything is actually solved is another question.” That’s the crux of it all isn’t it. I agree we can fix things along the way, but does that keep things fixed, and did we “solve” the issue at hand? That will determine if a Victory is in hand.

pokercat

Victory for Iran is trump declaring victory stopping the bombing and leaving Iran in charge of the Strait to charge shipping a toll to rebuild their infrastructure in peace. Post war I can see them sending a team to eliminate the president, his family and as many of his “men” as possible in retaliation for his war crimes, same for Bibi and his family.

The point on Iran’s nukes being stopped may not be that hard. All Trump has to do is come out and state “We have eliminated Iran’s nuclear capabilities.” We actually already did that once after the June bombing. Iran is not going to turn around and deny it, “No Trump is wrong, we actually do still have an enriched uranium stockpile and nuclear plans.” So Trump can just magically wave this victory point into pretend existence any time he wants. The opening of the Strait of Hormuz is harder–that can’t be pretended into existence.

Zelensky Confirms 200 Ukrainian Drone Operatives Are In Mideast Assisting Against Iran

Wednesday, Mar 18, 2026 – 02:45 AM

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday offered rare confirmation that his government has sent 200 Ukrainian air defense experts to the Middle East, where they are helping allies to counteract Iranian drone attacks, and on the cheap. Zelensky, who has publicly backed President Trump’s decision to attack Iran, explained in statements before British parliament on Tuesday that Ukraine’s mastery of low-cost and efficient interceptor drones has revolutionized modern warfare.

He offered as an example that it has cost the Untied States about $4 million per interceptor to shoot down a merely $50,000 Iranian Shahed drone, making Ukraine’s methods a far cheaper and attractive alternative.

Iran Picked a Fight with the Wrong President

by Lawrence Kadish

March 19, 2026 at 4:00 am

Israel has for decades understood what the American public is just beginning to appreciate: Iran has been at war with our democracy for nearly half a century.

President Donald J. Trump has long recognized the threat, along with the grim reality that Iran’s ayatollahs and their Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have been zealously committed to deploying nuclear weapons that would jeopardize more than the Middle East. Their chants of “Death to America,” were not just meant to inflame their citizens but to transmit their strategic intent: truly “Death to America.”

Without a declaration of war, the Iranian clerics have directed the murder of American servicemen, the assassination of opponents anywhere in the world, funded sleeper cells, and created a ring of terrorist organizations whose mission remains to drive Israelis into the sea. The outrage of October 7, 2023 was just meant to be their curtain-opener.

Having dithered since our diplomats in Tehran were taken hostage in 1979, America has been sleepwalking past this chilling reality. Not so President Trump.

One analyst and geopolitical author, Afshon Ostovar, recently told a reporter, “Iran has been picking a fight for 47 years, and it finally got that fight.”
