US Moves the Most Air Power to the Mideast Since the 2003 Iraq Invasion

Is a war with Iran too late to stop?

U.S. Military Moves Into Place for Possible Strikes in Iran

The New York Times reports U.S. Military Moves Into Place for Possible Strikes in Iran

The rapid buildup of U.S. forces in the Middle East has progressed to the point that President Trump has the option to take military action against Iran as soon as this weekend, administration and Pentagon officials said, leaving the White House with high-stakes choices about pursuing diplomacy or war.

Mr. Trump has given no indication that he has made a decision about how to proceed. But the drive to assemble a military force capable of striking Iran’s nuclear program, its ballistic missiles and accompanying launch sites has continued this week despite indirect talks between the two nations on Tuesday, with Iran seeking two weeks to come back with fleshed out proposals for a diplomatic resolution.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly demanded that Iran give up its nuclear program, including agreeing not to enrich any more uranium. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel, whose country would potentially take part in an attack, has been pushing for action to weaken Iran’s ability to launch missiles at Israel.

Israeli forces, which have been on heightened alert for weeks, have been making more preparations for a possible war, and a meeting of Israel’s security cabinet was moved to Sunday from Thursday, according to two Israeli defense officials.

Many administration officials have expressed skepticism about the prospects of reaching a diplomatic deal with Tehran. The indirect talks on Tuesday in Geneva ended with what Iran’s foreign minister said was agreement on a “set of guiding principles.” U.S. officials said the two sides made progress but added that big gaps remain.

Mr. Trump has repeatedly threatened that Iran must meet his terms or face severe consequences. But another attack, eight months after a 12-day war in which Israel and the United States assaulted military and nuclear sites across Iran, would potentially carry substantial risks, including that Iran would respond with a ferocious barrage of missile strikes on Israel and on U.S. forces in the region.

For a president who ran for office promising to keep the United States out of wars, Mr. Trump is now considering what would be at least the seventh American military attack in another country in the past year, and his second on Iran. Last June, after striking three Iranian nuclear sites, Mr. Trump declared that Iran’s nuclear program had been “obliterated.” But now he is considering sending U.S. military back to continue the job.

But unlike the U.S.-Israeli assault last June, Mr. Trump’s objectives now are less clear.

The U.S. military buildup includes dozens of refueling tankers, rushed to the region by United States Central Command, more than 50 additional fighter jets, and two aircraft carrier strike groups, complete with their accompanying destroyers, cruisers and submarines, U.S. officials said.

The American buildup also includes dozens of additional F-35, F-22 and F-16 fighter jets that have been flowing from the United States to Europe and onward to the Middle East in recent days, according to flight tracking data and U.S. officials.

Dozens of refueling planes, vital for a prolonged air campaign, have also been moved forward, those officials say.

The second aircraft carrier, the Gerald Ford, and its three destroyer escorts could be in the Mediterranean by the weekend or early next week, military officials said. The Ford is likely to be deployed initially near the coast of Israel to defend Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities and towns, officials said.

Senior national security officials have told the president that any operation that aims to change the Iranian leadership is not guaranteed to be a success, the officials said.

U.S. Gathers the Most Air Power in the Mideast Since the 2003 Iraq Invasion

The Wall Street Journal reports U.S. Gathers the Most Air Power in the Mideast Since the 2003 Iraq Invasion

The U.S. is ready to take action against Iran, but President Trump hasn’t decided whether to order strikes or—if he does order them—whether the aim would be to halt Iran’s already-battered nuclear program, wipe out its missile force or try to topple the regime.

Over the past few days, the U.S. has continued to move cutting-edge F-35 and F-22 jet fighters toward the Middle East, according to flight-tracking data and a U.S. official. A second aircraft carrier loaded with attack and electronic-warfare planes is on the way. Command-and-control aircraft, which are vital for orchestrating large air campaigns, are inbound. And critical air defenses have been deployed to the region in recent weeks.

The firepower will give the U.S. the option of carrying out a sustained, weekslong air war against Iran instead of the one-and-done “Midnight Hammer” strike the U.S. carried out in June against three Iranian nuclear sites, U.S. officials said.

Representatives from the U.S. and Iran met in Geneva this week to negotiate a possible deal over Iranian enrichment of uranium. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said there had been “a little bit of progress” in those talks, but added, “We’re still very far apart on some issues.” Iran is expected to offer a more detailed proposal to the U.S. in the next few weeks, Leavitt said.

Trump has received several briefings on his military options should he choose to strike, all of them designed to maximize damage to Iran’s regime and its regional proxies, U.S. officials said.

The options include a campaign to kill scores of Iranian political and military leaders, with the goal of overthrowing the government, U.S. and foreign officials said, as well as an air attack that would be limited to striking targets including nuclear and ballistic-missile facilities. Both would involve a potentially weekslong operation.

Given the uncertainties, some former military officers said a diplomatic agreement could be preferable to war. [Only Some?!]

Trump has repeatedly threatened an attack on Iran should negotiations fail. “I don’t think they want the consequences of not making a deal,” he told reporters Monday.

Eliot Cohen, who led a study of the use of air power in Desert Storm for the Air Force and is now a scholar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said that a punishing air campaign might try to weaken Iran’s leadership in a way that surviving members of the elite would agree to a far-reaching accommodation with Washington.

“If what Trump really wants to do is affect the regime and set back its ability to use missiles to attack American bases, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, it would probably have to be an intense operation that would last weeks or possibly months,” he said.

Unless it uses nuclear weapons (which it might), Israel doesn’t have the ability or desire to fight an extended war with Iran. The strategy is the same as with Iraq, tell the Americans to fight the war for them. That way Americans die rather than Israelis.

The US has been conducting a dirty/hybrid/sanctions/terror/outright war on Iran for 47 years. The goal is to insert a compliant regime.

The rest is excuses. They are not the world’s greatest sponsor of terror like everybody says; they have never had a nuclear warhead project, in fact the ayatollahs are probably the only people in Iran that are stopping it at this point; now it’s the missiles. Iran must capitulate and turn belly up so that AmericIsrael can stab it at will.

The negotiations are face, perfidy, just to maintain a facade, as outline in 2009 paper “Which way to Persia?”, to maintain the semblance of being peaceable.

The plan is murder & mayhem and hope for a miracle when the dust settles.
Likely outcome: Another Libya failed state OR a humiliation of American power.

The question people should worry about:
What if Iran strikes a carrier and it sinks, will America again resort to nuclear bombing of an unarmed population?

Our carriers are vulnerable to drone swarms speed boats with torpedoes mines and submarines. Our political leadership if you can call it that are putting our brothers and sisters in harms way.
To answer your question it is possible some of these weapons will hit our ships.
Also China and Russia are providing Iran radar and satellite.

Part of the problem is with the bloated American military and the costs of its arms. While Iran or Yemen can attack an American ship with a $10,000 drone, the US typically takes out the drone with a $2 million missile, because it can’t risk the ship getting hit. https://warontherocks.com/2025/11/the-hidden-cost-of-a-missile-why-the-headlines-get-cost-wrong/

America spent $1 billion fighting the Houthis in tiny Yemen before agreeing to a truce last year; Yemen likely spent less than $5 million. With so many American targets in the region, Iran can do a lot of damage, both to American troops and assets.

If Iran utilizes asymmetric warfare to the extent they are capable of it’s gonna be a helluva bloody mess. Their hypersonic missiles can’t be defended against. They have the capability to do a lot of damage to the oil producing infrastructure in the Middle East as well. If they play that card the Western Financial system will take a helluva hit.

… and an intervention of a few weeks turn into an Afghanistan II for several years, which DJT and his warmongering neocon club controlled from the background certainly will not survive. Iran has a defense cooperation with Pakistan signed 15 years ago so there will be support from there, and China and Russia will certainly not simply sit there and watch yet another US aggression played out in full. Good luck.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Many videos from last June demonstrate the day and night difference between a typical ballistic missile or small rocket and a large hypersonic vehicle. The latter go from being out of frame high above to hitting a target in less than a second. Also, you typically don’t see much visual evidence (at least at night) of a standard ballistic missile until impact. But the hypersonic delivery vehicle is going so fast on re-entry it develops a hot plasma field around it. That’s why it looks like a streak of light right before impact.

I stated some observable characteristics of hypersonic missiles which differentiate them from typical ballistic missiles. You could have retorted “but they are supposed to be maneuverable and those videos don’t show that!”. And then I could find a video that demonstrates that aspect. But instead you throw up “bullshit!” and make a spurious claim that Iran cannot defend itself (or even fight Israel to an extent we could call it a proper war?).

Le sigh.

I agree with you. I’m completely opposed to any attack on Iran, but people questioning the competence and dominance of the US military in a first strike capacity are really out to lunch.

The fact that Iran was able to slip a small percentage of missiles through Israeli air defenses of their entire geographical footprint is hardly the same as successfully striking a limited number of relatively tiny and heavily defended moving targets in the ocean.

Will there be a “False Flag” attack again?

US oil producers are setting production records and the profits will be staggering.

Think how many teenagers Trump and his complicit congressmen and sycophants can rape if the dow hits 70K

I burn lots of hydrocarbons, so I benefit from our imposition of our will on nations with hydrocarbons. The US’s interstate system creates fantastic bandwidth of freedom for Americans. I can use tractors and all sorts of fertilizers to grow crops and heat my greenhouses with natural gas economically to extend the growing season. I run photoperiod lighting to manage blooming and optimize seed production for rare and endangered plants. Like I said, hydrocarbon heaven! I live on the side that is “Winning”.

My kids are not being burned in their beds, Jewish kids are not being burned in their beds. We get to watch the genocidal highlights from Iran, Iraq, Venezuela on Fox News from the comfort of our living rooms. A big ass fireworks display while eating popcorn!

When our children ask why we attack other nations, we get to teach them to dehumanize those we bomb and call them “”Savages”, “Muslims”, or creatively, “Narco Terrorists”. We, of course, are perfectly innocent in invading their nations, killing their children, grandparents, brothers, sisters and friends.

We do not show our solders coming home in flag draped coffins or their broken bodies.

Our great grandchildren will pay the bills, or the price in one way, or another.

If ~ They are ever born…

Trump had me and millions of others fooled that he would be less likely to get the US into wars like Kamala would have. It’s true that Kamala would have gone along with whatever the Military Industrial Complex wanted to do.

The problem is, Trump has put deranged people in charge who have the power of the MIC behind them to do crazy things. On top of the military “purge” that was done shortly after he took office.

So ironically, if Kamala had won, we would have had a much more sane MIC that’s not going reckless like this one is.

It does count. And he expanded the footprint there and proudly “took their oil”. And expanded the merc presence.

And proudly arming Ukraine and presiding over their exercises with nato. By staging it, he’s as responsible for the NATO war against Russia as Biden, who couldn’t have advanced it to the next stage without trump’s work.

And stealing all VZ’s Citgo revenue and setting up the subsequent acts of war. (That’s piracy and war, even if it’s short.)

And murdering the Iranian general visiting Iraq officially as a diplomat. And reneging on the agreement with Iran. We’re again on the precipice because a prior admin — Trump’s — set the stage.

There’s more, of course. This guy didn’t drain the swamp, the deep state, the mic, etc. He hired Bolton and Abrams. Did he cut their budgets or expand them? What do you think they do with the money? And what percentage of SF ops aren’t classified?

I’m afraid you will need a better source than the Democratic Party or the New York Times for your claims that Democrat Presidents are Peacemakers. In particular:

Jimmy Carter continued and even expanded the full arming and funding of Indonesia’s appalling genocide in East Timor.

Bill Clinton led or participated in military interventions in Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Haiti, and Iraq. Interestingly, while intervening in Yugoslavia he did nothing to stop the genocide in Rwanda.

Barack Obama continued wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, continued operating Guantanamo (despite a campaign promise that he would shut down the military base “on day one” of his presidency), used the military to effect regime change in Libya in Egypt, and bombed Yemen, Syria, Somalia, and Pakistan. Hilary Clinton led much of this in her Secretary of State role.

Joe Biden funded and supplied massive military support for war in Ukraine and funded and supported Israel’s daily bombing and genocide in Gaza, as well as attacks on Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen.

You think Democrats are much better than Republicans?! There are robust debates between them about what bathrooms trans people should be able to use, whether and how immigration laws should be enforced, and whether we should have Affirmative Action, but that’s about it.

Why is it that the government (Medicare) is legally prohibited from negotiating the drug prices it buys from pharma (except for less than five drugs!) and almost every other country pays less for the same drugs than America does? Why are members of congress never prosecuted for making millions of dollars in the markets through insider knowledge of what legislation will be passed? Why does government choose not to prosecute (or hold accountable in any way) Epstein co-conspirators and participants? Why is the military budget never ever cut, even though it is larger than the next ten largest countries in the world? Why do we put more people in prison than any other country in the world? Why are American leaders never held to account for their roles in genocide, extrajudicial killing, or other human rights violations? Why does America continue to provide massive funding and weaponry to Israel even though they are daily committing genocide? Why is the government allowed to conduct mass surveillance of Americans and lie about it? Why does America kill innocent people in other countries (especially the Middle East) by bombing them all the time, even though they are no threat to us? Why are we never allowed to audit the Federal Reserve, even when the American people have overwhelmingly expressed an interest to do so?

Because Americans thoroughly support the Uniparty. Maybe we are the problem?!

T fooled us All (as Bushie did), as he ran on as Prez of Peace yet renamed DoD to DoWar and attacked many nations since and more to come!🤮
T also said He Will Obliterate Deep State! But He is Deep State! And don’t get me started on the coverup of E files, while calling many MAGA stupid for wanting the exposure of files. DoJ under Bondi & FBI Kash Patel cleaned it up and T 180° turn and ok now. Meanwhile they redacted 480+ files that reference Him.

Iran has lots of capacity to attack other countries with. More importantly is their weapons supplies to groups like Hesbollah, Hamas and Houthis.
Let’s hope any strike is focused on the mullahs and the IRG and there is regime change to something more moderate. Doesn’t need to be pro west but just peaceful so that sanctions can end and the Iranian people can benefit

When the United States attacks another country for what it does inside its own borders, it will not have much justification to complain if another country does the same thing, such as a China takeover of Taiwan.

I am not a big fan of Iran. However its current regime is an over-reaction to the US backed and installed corrupt Shah of Iran. The Iranian people were finally starting to make some headway against the ayatollahs but an outside attack has the chance of bringing them together.

Considering the Houthis depend on Iran to supply the rockets and missiles that have struck multiple ships as well as Saudi Arabia, Israel and Egypt you make a good argument to attack Iran.
It’s a low probability that Iran will sink a US aircraft carrier but a much higher probability that they sink or damage a support ship or three. Then things will get really interesting

Since Congress is too flaccid to act, we know this will secure our status as pariah nation.

I think it would be funny, but kinds, if Iran succeeded in taking out an aircraft carrier. Of course that would be a cause for extended war, just like the Maine.

It might also be a little sobering. Maybe you don’t casually park $10 billion in a hostile area unless it’s worth the loss. But some tyrants can’t cope with that

I hope this war doesn’t start but the reality is the market was already forecasting oil supply cuts. The option premiums on oil companies and oil ETFs were through the roof a while back and I posted comments here noting it. I was banking good coin selling call options on my holdings.

If war is averted, I will buy them back cheap and pocket profits.
If war isn’t averted, I will sell higher and pocket profits.

Will collect dividends while I wait for the outcome.

By the way, gold (GLD) and silver (SLV) call options toward the end of the year are rising to very juicy levels so something is cooking there as well. I might bite.

At least Iran enriches its own uranium. Israel STOLE their uranium from the NUMEC plant in the mid 1960s. What’s interesting is that Dimona was a heavy water reactor that did not need enriched uranium. I think plutonium production at Dimona was delayed and Plan B was to have Hiroshima-type uranium bombs that did not require testing to have on standby in the Sinai in case of an Egyptian counterattack or a Soviet intervention. If the Israelis feared that the USS Liberty (stationed just off the Sinai coast) intercepted signals intelligence about these weapons would they go as far as to try to sink it? Nah, they’re our greatest ally.

I didn’t say it was going to work out.

I’m just saying that repeatedly bombing them costs money as you pointed out.

Regime change while unlikely to work out at least has a chance however small. Hence why it will be pursued.

Syria, Libya and Iraq are shambles of what they were. But they dohave American/Israeli approved dictators. No democracy but ruins and ok for us.

You have to take the chance, as we just did in Venezuela. Good generally wins over evil, IF given the opportunity imo. This allows that to perhaps work out without death and destruction…

Texas Tim answered your question perfectly.
If we can’t stop them, as You Claim and don’t feel like getting nuked in the foreseeable future, then eliminate the source, and find someone else to take over. Under Your scenario they are leaving us No Choice, or one could simply say We Die, but not sure when, it’s not up to us apparently.
The other solution, is to force change, if possible, like in Venezuela, and try to Peacefully Work Together, with the new Regime. That or bombing becomes the only answer then… Or we die but don’t know when…

If Trump would stop acting like a puppet and a clown then we would not call him a puppet and a clown.

However, Trump dances like a monkey on a string.

FFS – I hope you (America) are doing this on your own. There was talk of using RAF bases in Cyprus and refuelling assets….I hope not.

Also assume that you are up for housing all the refugees when chaos breaks out.

It will be sold to the British like this:

Let us use your bases and refueling assets and it will be over fast with few refugees and American help for those there are. Refuse access and when it takes longer we’ll not lift a finger to help with refugees.

If Israel told Trump to take in Palestinian refugees to remove them from proximity to Israel, he would do it and easily sell the shit sandwich to MAGA as necessary for peace and stability in the middle east and the security of our little buddy.

His reasons can be no more clear: MONEY BEING SPENT ON MIC.

The “reasons” are secondary and meaningless. ALL of these entanglements feature a blatant lack of a clear goal.
