A Huge Victory for Parents in North Carolina on Transgender Rights

A supermajority in North Carolina overrode the Governor on three transgender rights bills.

The Wall Street Journal reports A Transgender Victory for Parents in North Carolina

North Carolina’s Republican-led legislature overrode Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto of three bills affecting transgender children on Wednesday. This is a victory for parents, despite what you read elsewhere.

One bill bans North Carolina doctors from helping minors change their sex characteristics, including giving them puberty blockers and hormone therapy. Another bans biological males from competing on women’s and girls’ sports teams in middle school, high school and college. A third bans instruction on “gender identity, sexual activity, or sexuality” in kindergarten through fourth grade, and requires schools to let parents know if their child asked to be called by a different name or pronoun.

Gender identification is contentious, involving competing—and often irreconcilable—views of what is best for children, especially those who are unhappy with their sex or confused about their identity.

The consequences are serious, with sometimes irreversible consequences. Prisha Mosley testified that she was hospitalized as a teen for depression following a sexual assault, and started taking testosterone and had a double mastectomy to remove two healthy breasts as part of “gender affirming care.” She is now suing her doctors and therapists, one of whom told her parents: “Would you rather have a dead daughter or a live son?”

These overrides are a victory for common sense.

What Cooper thought he could gain by letting 10-year-olds decide to change their sex is a mystery. It’s absurd positions like this that could enable Trump to defeat Biden even if he is convicted in some of the indictments.

Parents Matter

Glenn Youngkin unexpectedly won the Virginia gubernatorial election over Democrat Terry McAuliffe with a simple platform: Parents Matter.

In a Virginia Gubnatorial debate, McAuliffe bluntly declared: “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.”

Youngkin took that pitch and hit a home run. Youngkin promised more accountability, more charter schools, and an end to critical-race indoctrination. He won the election.

For discussion, please see Hoping for a Republican Renaissance in Virginia Led by Governor Glenn Youngkin

Elsewhere, extreme politics is totally out of hand. Three Republican candidates, Trump, DeSantis, and Vivek Ramaswamy all support bombing Mexico.

I summed it up this way:

A Total Destruction of the Political Center. Does Anyone Speak for You?

For discussion of the sorry set of candidates we have for president, please see A Total Destruction of the Political Center. Does Anyone Speak for You?

Here Are Your Choices

  • Bombing Mexico vs Letting Everyone In
  • Abortion on Demand vs No Abortions
  • More Military Spending vs More Military Spending
  • More Sanctions vs More Sanctions
  • Weaponizing the Dollar vs Weaponizing the Dollar

Happy with your choices?

Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy Wants to Raise the Voting Age to 25

Also consider Vivek Ramaswamy Wants to Raise the Voting Age to 25, Good Idea?

The answer is of course no. There are 31 million people aged 18-24 and Ramaswamy stupidly disenfranchised all of them.

Meanwhile, I will accept victories for common sense when I see them. Today, we have them in North Carolina.

amerikans are really quite mentally ill in 21st century. the highest suicide rates are among boomer white men. and for sure the young of both sexes male and female and the many genders that humans have displayed seem to be quite depressed too. it’s not a surprise. we are a very wicked world wide empire of debt who has not stopped bombing and flipping governments for my entire 60 plus annums.

Mish, as someone who has deployed to fight narco-terrorism, I make a distinction between “bombing Mexico” and “bombing drug cartels.” The southern border is a warzone; period. Downplaying or ignoring that fact supports the DC elites, and corporate media’s agenda of wanting Americans focused on every border on planet Earth except our own. I support presidential candidates that know prosperity starts with border security and enforcing our sovereignty. The candidates raising this issue are the sane and rational ones; not extremists. Facing the conflict along our own border is the one military action every American should agree on since it is directly about our own survival.

I think there is no need to intervene in Mexico to solve the drug problem in US. Just apply the same laws against drug traffickers and addicts in US as in Singapore. This will certainly fill the graveyards in the beginning.

We use to have a trade SURPLUS with Mexico. What went wrong? Nobody wants to address fundamental problems. How did this happen. Why are we not addressing it? How do we prevent it from happening again?

Very basic questions. Nobody wants the truth because the truth is we are being hoodwinked by the uniparty that captured the media and pit us against each other. It’s not us. It’s them. Both parties are the problem.

It will globally save kids. Instead of getting proper mental health care they were railroaded into believing that all their problems come from not being the right gender. When they discover that it created even more problems many of them took the final solution. It became a business ran by unscrupulous people to prey on the weak. They would also target the children of prominent people in order to form a lobby and keep the crime going on. Time to end it.

There is no such thing as trans. You either have XX, or XY chromosomes. Anything else requires the help of a mental health professional.

Thankfully the pendulum is swinging away from the whackadoodles.

This is going to kill some kids.

Whether justified or not, they consider themselves an oppressed minority. Suicide rates of LGBTQ people are higher than background.

Take away things they consider rights, and some will be defiant. Some will be defeated and decide to end their own lives.

As I tell my teenage daughter all the time, you don’t really have any rights until you turn 18 and are an adult. Before that, all decisions are made for you by someone and you just get to ‘suck it up, buttercup’.

Once you turn 18, you get your rights to do what you want to yourself.

I get what you’re saying, my parents were like that and I somewhat am too, however I learned something along the way. This attitude tends to lead to people telling us to ‘f off’ later in life because they are the magic 18 now!

Way to go Mish, of all the positive things Ramaswany says, you pick one minor point to ridicule! As if voting matters. The whole thing is an elaborate Kabuki theater design to give the appearance that you have a say in the running of your country when you clearly don’t. JOE BIDEN! The most qualified man in the US to be President! What a joke!

If it were up to me I’d limit voting by weighting your vote to the amount of taxes you pay. I’d also make it impossible to deficit spend.

By the way, Vivek’s proposal doesn’t change the voting age. It just requires that they pass a simple civics test if they want to vote before the age of 25. I know the Democrats want the most ignorant and ill informed crowding the voting booths. That’s how we end up with a President Biden.

The targeting of children by the looney, despicable left with transgenderism, is just a mean to sexualize them. Pretty soon pedophilia will be trotted out by the demented Democrats as a normal and natural thing. The nation has gone insane.

I love the way they rename things. Sex change is now gender affirming. Pedophiles are now minor attracted. Rioting and looting is now mostly peaceful protest. Wars are mostly peaceful. Soldiers spend far more time not shooting than shooting.

We don’t have a democracy. It’s a republic. A democracy is what happens when a republic is failing. From there it turns into tyranny. These are not my thoughts however; Plato.

TT,

I don’t get into petty name calling and stereotyping people but if you believe we have a democracy and not a republic then you believe it because end of the day that is all that matters:

“Men are nearly always willing to believe what they wish”
― Julius Caesar

The United States is a Republic. If you do not believe this then do not believe it. Go on and live in your democracy that is sliding into tyranny.

As a North Carolinian, I am very happy with this. After you turn 18, feel free to transition into a trans-man, trans-woman, or a frog. Up to you (although I don’t think taxpayer money should be used for it … but that’s a different discussion). NC has a great legislature and a governor (wannabe emperor) who wants to show that he is insane enough to play on the national level in the DNC. Our legislature would have had us opened post-Covid around the time of Florida and Texas … instead, Emperor Roy kept us locked down longer than California. I was so sad when he won re-election because the media had everyone convinced that “We’re all going to die!!!” from Covid. Thanks again to the NC legislature for supporting parents. Sadly, many schools will do what they want anyway. A friend has an 8 year old niece who is completely confused whether she is straight, or Bi, or nonBinary. What she is EIGHT and she shouldn’t be worried about that yet.

Try having a transgender kid. The confusion will happen long before 8, and it will happen regardless of any law put in place to keep parents from pursuing appropriate care.

For a supposed libertarian, Miss is getting caught up in culture wars that a true libertarian should have no part in.

Just let the government and media teach your eight year they are the wrong gender and sterilize them, it’s not libertarian otherwise.

Come on, an 8 year old has no idea what they want and should not be made (or really the parents) making or starting any type of life altering decision that young.

Shamrockva

You mean taking away parents rights. A 10 year old has never had the authority to order up hormone therapy or surgery. That’s a decision the parents make and now they cannot.

Agreed. Why should the government be involved in medical decisions between a minor, their parents, and a doctor? And the case of Prisha Mosley is flawed. While at 17 she did begin to have testosterone therapy, her breasts were not removed until she was 18 when Prisha was an adult. Perhaps the medical professionals did not adequately access her mental health in light of the fact she was raped, but I would still rather have parents and doctors make these decisions rather than a government ban.

The Prep Act monetarily incentivized hospitals to use Remdesivir and ventilators. And they were, to excess. Transgender medical care is monetarily very lucrative over the lifetime of the patient. It puts a thumb to the scale on the side of promotion by the medical system.
Chaching. “Show me the incentive and i will show you the outcome” After Covid, people really aught to be onto that, by now. Incentivized medicine.

I’m sorry but when my family took in foster kids saw some pretty crazy examples of parents who wanted a chid of the other sex and dressed and treated them that way. Hard limit at 18 I support absolutely..

Good, parents who push their children to have such extreme surgery are usually attention seeking types no different than those who poison their kids. What if the kid thinks he is a pirate? Shall an eye and leg be removed so they can wear a peg leg and eye patch to go with speech therapy to say Arr me mateys, there be treasure there, pieces of eight.
What is wrong is when courts order children removed because the parent refused to consent to a sex change castration/speying.
