Democrats Move to Block Third Party Candidates to Save Democracy

Democrats want to save democracy from itself, and several DNC committees strive to do just that. Irony abounds.

Committee to Save Our Republic

NBC News reports Democrats Prepare to Go to War Against Third-Party Candidates

The Democratic National Committee is building its first team to counter third-party and independent presidential candidates, people involved told NBC News, as the party and its allies prepare for a potential all-out war on candidates they view as spoilers.

The DNC has hired veteran Democratic operative Lis Smith, best known for her work guiding the 2020 presidential campaign of Pete Buttigieg, to help oversee an aggressive communications component of its strategy, which also includes opposition research and legal challenges.

Underscoring how important Democrats view the effort, it is being overseen by Mary Beth Cahill and Ramsey Reid, two veteran DNC insiders, who have already started issuing rare public statements rebuking Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“The single biggest threat that helps put Trump back in the White House is third-party candidates. It’s not Biden’s age. It’s not whether Trump gets convicted. It’s not any of that stuff,” said Joe Trippi, a veteran Democratic strategist who co-founded a new super PAC that is preparing to run TV ads in battleground states.

The group, Citizens to Save Our Republic, is backed by a long and somewhat bipartisan list of boldface Washington names, including two former defense secretaries, five former senators, 14 current and former members of Congress, three former presidential candidates and several well-known Democratic and anti-Trump Republican operatives.

Saving Democracy From Itself

Jonathan Turley comments on Saving Democracy From Itself.

The Democratic National Committee has now added its own gem: the Democratic Party is not here to preserve democracy, it is here to prevent democracy.

The media does not appear at all alarmed or critical of the effort to limit democratic choice. The Washington Post stated clinically “Democrats are taking third-party threats seriously this time.” Taking it seriously appears to mean using legal means to keep them from the ballots.

It is true that the main political parties have challenged qualification signatures and paperwork in the past. However, the reports indicate a systemic effort geared toward reducing the choices for voters. What is striking is that this is coming from democratic groups and the DNC, which are raising money on the “save democracy” narrative.

The contradiction is spellbinding. On the same sites promising to oppose the third party candidates, the DNC and other groups push the narrative that only the Democrats are working to protect the right to vote.

The DNC is reportedly to be joined in this effort by a well-financed array of groups including the liberal think tank Third Way (which has filed complaints with secretaries of states); American Bridge (a Democratic opposition operation), and Clear Choice (a super PAC composed of “allies of President Biden”).

While these groups work to limit the choice of voters, the effort continues in Florida, Georgia, Washington, and New York to keep Trump in court until the election, including a possible trial running up to or even through the election.

Activists are now big gulping the election. Voters cannot be trusted with something as important as democracy.

President Biden has said “make no mistake: Democracy is on the ballot for all of us.” Of course, he could end this effort by denouncing further ballot cleansing (something he refused to do when Trump was removed by the Colorado and Maine ballots). It appears that the last thing that democracy needs is free democratic choice.

Irony Abounds

The last thing Democrats want is a fair election. Democrats in three states Colorado, Illinois, Maine, moved to kick Trump off the ballot.

Proving the move was totally political, on March 14, I noted Supreme Court Sides With Trump 9-0, He Will Appear on the Ballot in All States

I got this one correct, and for the right reasons. On February 10, I commented Expect a Supreme Court Ruling 9-0 or 8-1 in Favor of Trump, Then What?

Democrats are now upset and claim Republicans are funding the third-party campaigns.

Q: Shocking?
A: No, even if true. Republicans are following Democrats who mastered the technique.

Democrats Back Far-Right Candidates

Flashback November 1, 2022: NPR reported The Democrats’ Strategy of Boosting Far-Right Candidates Seems to Have Worked.

ack in the primary season, a number of Democrats tried to boost far-right Republican candidates whom they deemed easier to beat in November.

The strategy seems to have paid off: In high-profile races where Democratic candidates or groups successfully used the strategy during the primaries, all of the Republicans they helped have either lost or are trailing, two days after Election Day.

Similarly, USA Today reported “Democrats spent millions boosting ultra right candidates in midterms. The strategy worked.

Democrats for Nikki Haley

On January 20, 2024, Politico commented on the New Hampshire Campaign to Persuade Democrats to Vote for Nikki Haley.

The campaign theme was “We Only Care About Damaging Donald Trump

In recent months, a handful of left-leaning groups have popped up across New Hampshire with the goal of persuading the state’s “undeclared” voters — who make up 42 percent of the voting population and are eligible to vote in either party’s primary — to back Haley.

One of those groups, Primary Pivot, is run by Robert Schwartz, a liberal activist who has spent his career countering democratic backsliding in countries across Latin America. The organization’s rationale is simple, Schwartz told me when I spoke to him this week: If Trump poses an extraordinary threat to American democracy — as many liberals and left-leaning independents believe — then those same voters should embrace extraordinary methods to stop him.

“We only care about damaging Donald Trump,” said Schwartz.

Hoot of the Day

Democracy is indeed on the ballot this time, but in the opposite sense that Biden and the Democrats claim.

The blatant hypocrisy of Biden having photo ops with the bust of Robert Kennedy in the background, supposed homage to his political hero, while using the full force of the Democratic party to silence RFK’s oldest son, is my hoot of the day.

The DNC has the gall to complain about RFK while backing far-right Republican candidates, organizing a vote for Nikki Haley, attempted to keep Trump off the ballot in several states, and now seek legal moves to keep RFK and the yet unannounced No Labels candidates off the ballots by any means necessary.

RFK Jr. Picks Nicole Shanahan as His Presidential Running Mate

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will pick Nicole Shanahan as his “We the People” party vice presidential running make.

What’s Their Goal?

I have not seen anyone else discuss this point. So to answer the question, here are three possibilities.

  1. If the goal is to win, they won’t.
  2. If the goal is to not do anything that will help Trump, they will fail.
  3. If the goal is to make a name for themselves and mount a more serious campaign in the Democratic party for 2028, they may or may not succeed.

Number three is a standout.

RFK Jr., age 70, is no spring chicken. But Nicole Shanahan, age 38, sure is. Shanahan has the money and if she wants name recognition, she will get it.

Shanahan ticks all the leftist boxes her foundation focused on reproductive rights, criminal justice and the environment.

She ticks so many boxes that the Left should love her. But she is a threat to someone senile and should not be running at all.

So, in the eyes of the DNC, this makes her a threat to democracy as well. Apparently, we have to destroy our Republic to save it.

Who’s the real threat here? Trump or the Democratic Party?

As I commented in Mish’s Shanahan article, a preferential voting system as used in Australia would solve this problem (“save Democracy”) for the Democrats as RFK Jr’s votes would most likely flow through to them, while simultaneously it would help re-engage disaffected youth who otherwise see no point in voting.

They do not plan to win. A divided democrat vote will not win.

They intend to help trump because doing that ends the liberal control of the Democrat party.

option 3 is most likely. RFK is providing more moderate democrats an option to veto the current party control.

Here’s another thought.
RFK Jr. looks out and sees a very short runway for Dementia Joe and a long way until November
He knows Dems are in panic mode about running Joe, but who could they replace Joe with on short notice.
Kamala is absent without leave as she was never there in the first place.
Michelle is a nonstarter.
Hillary looking more like the Hag from some distant past horror show.

What’s to do? Oh well we really didn’t mean all those nasty things said about RFK Jr.
after all.
Not such a long shot idea. RFK Jr. becomes Dem nomination.

As in real estate it is all about Location. RFK Jr. is playing position.

The neoliberal political wing, banksters, merchants of death, national security apparatchiks, and donor base of the party will not allow RFK Jr. to be their standard bearer of the Democratic Party.

They would rather lose to Trump who will mostly keep the US on the status quo track of deficit spending, cut taxes for the donor base, revert to real negative interest rates, support of Bibi, more tariffs on China, alienating Africa and Latin America, degradation of the environment, debt peonage for 50% of America, no immigration reform, etc.

The Democratic leadership in the House, Senate and governors will retain their positions so nothing will be done that will move the needle for the real economy nor improving the living standards for the middle and working classes.

The one status quo exception for Trump will be he most likely not renew funding for Ukraine.

“We only care about damaging Donald Trump,” said Schwartz.

Ultimately, they may only be damaging themselves. A woman in China Town, Los Angeles was stabbed during a purse snatching incident. People interviewed for the story on KTLA, said they are afraid, due to all the crime. The other day a helicopter was hovering nearby for an extended time. Someone had been stabbed at Victory Park. Democrats promoted this with their soft on criminals policy.

Democrats are proving that they hate democracy and love authoritarianism.

“…the DNC and other groups push the narrative that only the Democrats are working to protect the right to vote.”

Democrats are attacking the right to vote, if they are working to prevent people from voting for candidates other than themselves. If anything, its getting to be that the Democrat Party should be abolished, in order to protect democracy.

In California we have an open primary. Top two winners in the primary run in the general election. Last time Schiff ran for congress, in November, two democrats were the only choices. Except that former Dodger player Steve Garvey ran for U.S. Senate this year, it would have been two Democrats as the choice in November. Except for Garvey, my choice would have been forced to be neither candidate, as it was for congress in 2022.

Democrats are getting this country to Socialism if not straight to Communism. They are working hard to make American democracy turn into some CCP style government. Slowly we are getting there, first divide the country based on race, religion,, DEI, CRT, ESG, etc., create chaos with crime/lawlessness, label any opposition as extremism/censor/jail with the help from MSM, Govt Institutions, NGOs, corporations. Use illegal immigrants, minorities, virtue signaling, indoctrination at schools/colleges and welfare dependent crowd as useful id**ts to push their agenda. What happens when there is little or no opposition? They are forwarding to a politburo system of governance, so the ruling class can control every aspect of ordinary peoples lives while only elite and oligarchs will have all the power & rights. Democrats are a threat to American Constitution and peoples rights. WEF is created for this purpose. All these useful id**ts yes-man crowd will realize this at their own peril, I hope it is not too late for them.

I thought this snippet from an article was relevant to the discussion, but the article is too controversial to post the link to

“But as Athens grew in size and power, and as foreigners and slaves increased in number, the issues became more complex, the democratic process became more unwieldy, and the simple, direct democracy had a hard time adapting. Thus, leading thinkers like Plato and, later, Aristotle, began to examine alternatives. Better than democracy, said Plato, was oligarchy: rule by the (rich) few. They might be money-grubbers, but at least they had some management skills and a vested interest in the flourishing of the nation. Better still was timocracy, or rule by the honor-seekers. Rather than striving to build wealth, as the oligarchs would, timocrats would emphasize the honor and glory of the city-state; this was a very good option. But best of all, said Plato, was an aristocracy: rule by the best, meaning the wisest or the most just. An aristocracy could be a small group of wise men, or it could be a single wise individual; this was largely irrelevant. What was important was that you sought out, educated, and trained your wisest men, or man, and then you let them lead. And that, said Plato, is the best that humans can attain.[6]

Democracy was a poor alternative, he wrote, but there was one system even worse: tyranny. Democracy itself was already a sort of tyranny—of the pleasure-seekers, of the “majority”—but a formal tyrant, as a single man, could rule with impunity, enrich himself and his cronies, and bring ruin upon the polis. The tyrant was, in a sense, the mirror image of the wise, aristocratic philosopher-king of the best system. In both cases, a single man rules, but the tyrant is neither wise nor just, and has simply seized power by force; whereas the aristocratic ruler, by virtue of his wisdom and justice, rightly assumes power and exercises it with due care and discretion.”

MIke, I listened to David Stockman in the Thoughtful Money Podcast last night. This podcast was released here:

It’s All About To Crash | David Stockman2024-3-14 | 01:45:50 | Thoughtful Money with Adam Taggart. I am not promoting that Show, which is interesting, but David Stockman says that IF neither ScumParty gets the 270, then a potential Run off between the three, RFK, Trumpie and BidenCo could turn a ONE VOTE per State affair. From the HILL:

“If no candidate receives a majority of electoral votes, the Presidential election leaves the Electoral College process and moves to Congress. The House of Representatives elects the President from the three (3) Presidential candidates who received the most electoral votes. Each State delegation has one vote and it is up to the individual States to determine how to vote.

(Since the District of Columbia is not a State, it has no State delegation in the House and cannot vote). A candidate must receive at least 26 votes (a majority of the States) to be elected. The Senate elects the Vice President from the two (2) Vice Presidential candidates with the most electoral votes. Each Senator casts one vote for Vice President. (Since the District of Columbia is has no Senators and is not represented in the vote).

A candidate must receive at least 51 votes (a majority of Senators) to be elected. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.”

Ref: link to thehill.com

I am not knowledgable enough to know if this COULD happen, but David Stockman is not a novice as many of you may already know.

Thus, NO ONE knows about this on a percentage of Citizens basis….we may well be the ONLY people in a blog talking about this. I plan to post a not on Twitter/X so people will know that RFK COULD WIN. It is an amazing thing to consider.

They would, the D’s and R’s, consider this a “Constitutional Crisis” and strike it down and then, with Cigars and the Best Scotch that Tax payers can buy for them: the “LEADERSHIP” decides which party rules.

It could already be the R’s since they are likely meeting secretly daily anyway. ANYONE NOTICE the CRICKET PART (the R’s) are not saying much? They are not DOING ANYTHING and have not for nearly 4 years…

Thus, we must be aware that it is INDEED a uniparty deal and that they are deciding WHO WINS.

Voting is simply naive.

A “threat to our democracy” is actually a challenge to the national security state, whose existence is nowhere to be found in the constitution. Rule by the mob would be preferable. Witness Susan Rice, a career national security state political operative ( remember Benghazi, the rounds of talk show appearances, it was caused by a video!), one of Barrack’s angels, named as … wait for it … Domestic Policy Advisor to Biden (but all her experience is foreign policy? Oh, ok, she did lie like a pro to the public on national media) who recently pops out of her hidey hole after jumping Biden’s sinking ship to declare Orange Man Bad a national security threat because he does what is good for Trump not national security … HE DOES NOT DO WUT WE TELL HIM TO DO … Which more or less sums up JFK and RFK?

The biggest problem RFK Jr. poses for the Dems is that a serious 3rd party candidacy makes rigging the next election much more difficult if not impossible.

In a 2 candidate race shifting the count in swing states is pretty easy. Find out how far Trump is ahead and then flip/inject enough “ballots” to win. But what happens if there is a 3rd option? The math gets more difficult to make plausible. Do you flip Trump votes or RFK votes and how many? Plus you have RFK election workers paying attention.

This country seriously needs a third centrist party. The two party system is broken. I am a moderate conservative independent with no current representation (historically Republican leaning but not so much now). My dream is that a group of moderate conservative Republicans and moderate liberal Democrats would unite and form a moderate block. Then they would hold the balance of power and unite with either the remaining republicans or the remaining democrats on specific issues to get things done.

I know what a “third centrist party” was in France, it was Macron. He brought together the remnants of the so-called “right” and “left” who claimed to be opposites, but pursued the same policy on most issues. These trends were beginning to be hated by a majority of French people. Macron created a party that he claimed was new, but which continued exactly the same policy as before, and Macron is starting to be hated in his turn.
And I think there is a good chance that the new contender, Le Pen, will also continue this disastrous policy. She came close to power, and was able to reduce opposition from the mainstream media, by renouncing almost all her old projects, in particular sovereignism.

It goes without saying that Democrats are highly highly blind to their own hypocrisy on this as so many issues.

There are 4 vacancies currently in the House. Special Elections to fill those occur in April May and June

GOP currently has 218 to 213 without those 4. Then there is the Wisconsin GOP dude leaving April 19th which he chose so his reliably Red district cannot elect another Republican prior to November.

If Dems were to take 3 of those 4, and the GOP does note EJECT Galagher or whatever his name is prior to April 9th, the House would then be 218 to 216. You would need another 2 or 3 GOP to leave to make Hakeem Jeffries the Speaker.

Some say that many RINOs are actually pursuing this as a strategy. After which the House with Dem Speaker will vote that Trump is an insurrectionist ineligible to participate in the November election. And that was the basis the SCOTUS chose to invalidate Colorados removal of Trump from their Primary ballot

Now maybe that is a Bill of Attainder. Maybe the SCOTUS meets emergency fashion to overturn it

Or maybe there is no plot and Hakeem Jeffries remains Minority Leader until November

Anything is possible in this election cycle.

Just why would he do that without an ulterior motive? He wouldn’t. For one, he is leaving his constituents without representation. For two, it hurts the Republican Party, of which he is a member. Why would he hurt the Republican Party? As radio host Dan Bongino put it, to harm Trump.

It was interesting to read U.S. MSM coverage of the Russian elections. Putin jails opposition candidates, the elections were a sham, etc.

“Putin’s approval rating is currently 86%, up from 71% shortly before the invasion of Ukraine, according to Levada Centre, a respected Russian pollster.”

Does it make sense that a politician with such a high approval rating would have to resort to sham elections to stay in power?

On the other hand, if your approval rating is 40%, you might have an incentive to play dirty to win.

Nah Bruh, the Orange Mussolini Wannabe is as corrupt as you get and his Angry Orange Arse is still walking around in public. Probably won’t be in the next few months, since he’s been corrupt WAY before he ever ran for office. But we’ll see how the Jury finds him.
Plenty of Republicans are praying he gets convicted, so they can NOT vote for him and feel legit about not supporting someone who was convicted.
I’m an independent and simply sick of the warmed over crap that both parties are serving up as candidates. And RFK jr is NOT an improvement.
Someone run a normal person who doesn’t wear tinfoil hats and has even a remotely clean record and then they would probably win with a 70% vote.

If Putin turned up in a Chicago CTA Red Line car I happened to be in he would be the least of my concerns.

“Navalny is dead”. So is Gonzalo Lira.

When I told someone Putin has a 75%+ approval rating in Russia, they told me the Russians hate Putin and want to get rid of him.

PDS (Putin Derangement Syndrome) is a thing.

It’s not Putin. Russians are always looking for someone to kneel down to and Putin fits the bill very well.

I assume if RFK, Jr. was not in the race, but DeSantis decided to run as 3rd party candidate, the Democrats wouldn’t have such a concern about ‘saving democracy’.

Let’s list countried with “democrat” in their names:
“German Democratic Republic”
“Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea”
“Lao People’s Democratic Republic”
“Democratic Republic of Vietnam”
“Democratic Republic of the Congo”
“Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka”
“People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria”
Even the PRC will talk about itself as “democratic”!
…you get the picture about what “saving democracy” really means.

Just like protecting democracy means censoring opinions that the government doesn’t agree with. It’s for the common good.
And Mish, that ignore button would be helpful, so I didn’t have to see any thing that I disagree with. Or even worse, have someone point out some error in my thinking. s/

He needed money and she has lot so it’s a partnership made in heaven. Confirmed my opinion of Kennedy as a lightweight.

Also confirmed that the mob can’t be called upon to bankroll any more Kennedy’s after JFK turned the prosecutors on them once he was in office 😉

With RFK’s selection of Shanahan, it seems he has changed his focus from winning the election to destroying the Democrat party that has shunned him. Good for him on that count. But RFK has also tossed aside any hope of getting the Libertarian Party nomination and their 50-state ballot access. If he had selected someone more libertarian-minded, he might have had a chance.

3rd Party Ross Perot pushed Clinton into office……a Democrat

it can go both ways. Third Party candidates Ralph Nader and Jill Stein pushed the election to the Repub in their races.

nobody voted for Nader or Stein. Ross got over 10% of the vote. Of course it goes both ways, that was my point. These morons’ playbook is asinine. For example, “election validity” Heads i win, tails you lose.

“She ticks so many boxes that the Left should love her. ”

This dynamic duel will vacuum up votes from the Dems and make Trump’s win even more sure. Trump’s problem is illegal ballot counting, viz. 2020. He could win but still lose because of it.

The Orange Mussolini Wannabe has a problem that he’s been crooked since his first day in business. He’s going to get to hear his “Prisoner Choir” from the inside.

“He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.” – at best.
Vile den of desperate despots at worst.
