For the First Time, a Majority Strongly Disapproves of Trump in a Poll

Support for Trump hits a new low.

Here’s the Economist/YouGov Poll.

Donald Trump Hits Record High Disapproval Rating

Newsweek comments Donald Trump Hits Record High Disapproval Rating

President Donald Trump’s disapproval rating has hit a new high during his second term, a poll from The Economist and YouGov showed on Tuesday.

In an email to Newsweek about this week’s poll, YouGov’s Allen Houston said in part: “Donald Trump hit a new low in net job approval for his second term in this week’s Economist / YouGov poll. 38% of Americans strongly or somewhat approve of Trump’s job performance, while 59% disapprove — a record high disapproval for this term. Trump’s net approval of -21 for handling his job as president is the second lowest he has received in an Economist / YouGov Poll, after a survey in November 2017 (also -21, slightly lower than this week before rounding).”

Allen continued in part, “If Trump’s net job approval remains at this level, it will be comparable to the negative poll numbers Joe Biden received in the spring and summer of 2024, before he dropped out of the presidential race.”

Tuesday’s poll also shows that 51 percent “strongly disapprove” of the president’s job performance. “That’s a record high for Trump in either of his two terms, and it is the first time in either term that more than 50% of Americans have said this,” Houston said.

Reuters/Ipos Poll

In a Reuters Poll 47 percent strongly disapprove,

Trump’s net approval rating is 38 percent.

67 percent of Independents disapprove of Trump.

Republicans rate to get clobbered in the midterms. They could even lose the Senate.

Mish, I plugged my nose and voted for him, as did my wife. Before we did though we both were under no illusion that anything would change as we are both ardently convinced that Uniparty™ runs this nation via its cabals of wealthy interests.

Our position was a wise one that has born itself out in the truth of his actions.

That said, we have both finally disavowed ourselves of having anything to do with this narcissistic buffoon. The self-aggrandizing, the buffoonery, the vulgar, uncouth, and trashy persona by themselves were a tough swallow, and The Epstein(did not kill himself) Files were the turn our back on him moment. But now we disavow this monster.

He has no idea of how severely he has destroyed his coalition. No idea. For you Trump Groupies who are reading this, there is ZERO CHANCE of Vance ever becoming POTUS without us.

You, – the Trump Groupies – and your MAGA fantasy are on political death row.

On another note, and this is back to you Mish, how the hell does Lindsey Graham, the senior senator from Tel Aviv, continue to get elected?

It may actually be the case that “MAGA” is what Trump says it is. But he also promised over and over again not to engage in any new foreign wars (and to end the war in Ukraine that still rages on unabated). Then there are the lies about the reasons for this war, and its probable duration. And then there is the adoption by America of Israeli standards for a “moral” war: starting the war amid (phony) diplomatic negotiations; killing scores of children with no apology; massive attacks on civilians in large cities. He is a criminal and will be impeached next January (if he survives that long).

It takes hopelessness, the exhaustion of all hope, to finally bring about the uprising – and I pray to almighty God that is a peaceful one – by the public to invoke change.

We all needed hope. Hope even when we knew that there was none.

But how hopeless is our situation? Well, 30 yrs ago I am pretty gosh-darn certain that The Epstein Files would have invoked coast-to-coast public outrage and perhaps even mild unrest.

Today, it’s out of the news cycle in about a month.

America is doomed because its populace is amoral. We are a wicked people who fancies itself as virtuous. Americans are literally the caricature of fat, dumb, and happy. I read posts on political commentary and I am saddened by what I see as nothing less than shaped opinions, quite literally perceptional management and emotional control over people by extremely well crafted messaging. But not one will ever admit to being duped. To being the sucker, the chump. Noooo, pride intervenes. You’d be amazed at how well a human being can bull shiff themselves for the sake of their ego.

I dare say that 95% of Americans do not even know that they are duped/had/conned/flim-flammed on a regular basis and that is the central issue. The typical psyche of an American is one of EXTREME EXTREME self-pride, self-love, and self-idolization which are dark and destructive moral character flaws ubiquitous among our populace.

The political messaging from (insert whoever the hell it is that shapes the national mood, mind controls the public, and runs the nation here…whoever, because I sure as hell don’t know) plays to these massive character flaws and that is why we have no hope. We’re a nation of fools. I myself know that I am duped, treated like the pigeon, and suckered with intentional misinformation daily by sowing so much confusion into the information sphere that I often doubt every conclusion that I attempt to draw from the overabundance of conflicting (intentional too) information dumped on us. I am also a bit sick and tired of eventually being proven wrong.

That’s the price that one pays though to make an earnest attempt of not being a fool. Because there is no greater fool than the man that thinks that he cannot be fooled. Those are the biggest suckers among us.

In closing, until Americans, as individuals, address their deep-rooted character issues there is no hope for us. None at all.

And that is why Americans get exactly the leaders that they deserve, and they get them good and hard. Over, and over, and over, and over….

Like Lucy, pulling the football away from Charlie Brown every time, but he is too much a dullard to figure it out. Just vote Team Red/Blue. They’ll make things moar better! Team Red/Blue’s promises are the football, and the voter is Charlie Brown.

We’re a nation of suckers.

A politician will poll their constituents, see what they want and represent that. A leader will poll their constituents research the matter and do what is best for the greater good in the long term. Popularity, while effective in American politics, is often easy and shallow and akin to following. Good leadership is harder and deeper. Approval in the moment is not a good measure of a leader. Impact over time is.

Just goes to show that anyone who believed anything the orange clown said is a fool.

Also, this is a plutocracy, approve/disprove has very little to do with anything. They know they will get clobbered in November, but Trump took the money from the special interests to bomb iran at some point. The timeline was just pulled up from what Trump originally thought because of the imminent clobbering. They own him.

All this hand wringing by us peons is a waste of time. Need to fix the system back to representative democracy. But as long as we keep believing the silly show they put on every 4 years, nothing will change. Wake up America – this a isnt a f’in TV show or tiktok video

CBS, Ipsos, and CNN all show 60% or more disapproval. From one of these sources I’d be hesitant to make claims, but with all three and even Yougov showing the souring I think that the 74% odds on a blue wave sound about right. I would expect that to get even more drastic as the war drags prices up.

This also seems reflected in internal plans. If they thought they weren’t looking at losing the Senate, the white house wouldn’t be telegraphing that that plan to try to steal the elections again. God help us all if this nation comes to blows over voting.

I’m in the strong disapproval camp. He didn’t cut spending, didn’t balance the budget, illegally raised new taxes (tariffs), started a new war with Iran without Congressional approval, tried to cover up the Epstein files, kidnapped a foreign leader, hasn’t reduced inflation, and he attacked Thomas Massie and Rand Paul. I’m sure I’m forgetting some things, but he’s doing a terrible job.

Probably unpopular but believe Rubio was on point:

@SecRubio: “The president made the very wise decision—we knew that there was going to be an Israeli action, we knew that that would precipitate an attack against American forces, and we knew that if we didn’t preemptively go after them before they launched those attacks, we would suffer higher casualties.”

Israel backed him into a corner leaving him no real options. Israel was going to war with Iran. Iran military already had their plans & standing orders regarding the USA & other targets if that happened. Iran military has been operating very effectively lacking political leadership. War of attrition USA & Israel very expensive anti missile defenses versus cheap Iran drones & missiles. Things should get really interesting in another week or two.

USA underestimated Iran. Imagine if USA had done nothing and had to react to such an effective Iran cold without a few weeks of staging the theater of operations. Bahrain populace rioting wanting the USA out (5th fleet base of operations). Individuals protesting him taking USA to war would be protesting lack of action & planning.

Initial reports indicated Israel took out the girls school. They also took out the council making it extremely difficult to reach a political deal negotiating with the leadership.

I don’t get it, all this and it is only 51%?

Do people just not want to admit that they were wrong about this guy?

How can there be any hope that America is not headed for the ash can when there is so much support for this corrupt and totally incompetent person?

Where is the line that he needs to cross before the overwhelming majority of people say enough is enough?

At what point do you stop holding your nose while saying “the ends just the means”?

It is fine if your ideology is conservative but Trump is certifiable and is destroying America. Trump wants to be a dictator. True, dictatorship is a more efficient system of governing but it is at the cost of personal freedom which is what America stands for.

I genuinely feel sorry for the 51% of Americans who strongly disapprove because you are on a bus headed for a cliff with lunatic at the wheel.

There is always going to be some lowest of the low who remain incapable of self-reflection, guided purely by hate for the opposition, and completely open to (in fact with a gleeful appetite for) indoctrination by right-wing media. They need no coherent constant position or beliefs- the only concern is “winning” and punishing the “other.” That’s the constancy of their position and that’s the language Trump uses to control them.

Democracy is designed for compromise. It is a political system built on the idea that others have legitimate issues and concerns and you must address those instead of just bulldozing your issues through. In the US, independents represent a plurality of voters. They tend to be moderate voters and you have to compromise to keep their votes. Trump and MAGA can’t do that. Which is why a vote for Trump is a vote for 2 years of insanity followed by a takeover by the Democrats as independents show regret for their votes for Trump.

I’d say this is bearish for gold and silver; Trump will become a neutered president and the Dems will win the next election with Newsom.
Gold surged because 1) Trump is unpredictable and 2) Trump held enormous power. The mid-terms will undermine point 2 as the Dems will take the Senate.
Perhaps one of the reasons why gold hasn’t jumped with the Iran conflict.

Democrats didn’t make that headline, Republicans did (and their useful fools who parrot it)
Republicans always use the extreme case to punish the minority- attacking trans people as a proxy for gays, attacking “criminal illegals” as a proxy for all brown-skinned people, etc etc etc. Don’t fall victim.
And the actual ethical person will defend the extreme case as far as human rights and the law allows. You don’t just throw trans people under the bus because it’s politically convenient, not only because it’s right to defend them but also because that will not satisfy Republicans- they will simply be emboldened and move on to attacking gays, etc.
If Americans think the struggle to balance human rights for trans people with participation in sports or gender bending surgery as minors is something that should turn national elections, they deserve what they’re getting, good and hard. Those are sticky issues but anyone who bases their vote on that is lost. By the way in an exit poll after the 2024 election, trans issues ranked at #22 in importance out of…. 22 issues. Dead last.

Finally Americans are waking up to reality. It will be even worse for Trump as this war goes on and it becomes clear that the USA cannot achieve it’s objectives. In fact, the war will end up a disaster to Trump which will become evident over time. After much, much pain, the hope is that in the long run this will be good for the USA once it survives the economic pain and devastation that will result from decades of betrayal by our elites and their “selected” officials in government and especially Congress. Time will tell. The Empire is collapsing- hopefully slowly, gradually and relatively peacefully as we regain our sanity, deal with the problems and mistakes of the past, and rebuild a new and better America that becomes a contributing part of the new multi-polar world which is emerging, and not the destroyer and vanquisher of opposition to the old empire which can no longer be sustained.

Not really. I expressed “hope” not “faith” or “belief”. I still have “hope” for Trump. Not much. My hope is primarily that the USA will survive Trump. That’s about all.

The US produced Trump and his cabinet. Think about that when musing about the prospects of surviving the current Trump.

Who would have guessed that ‘Mexico will pay for the wall”, “make fun of disabled people”, “grab’em by the pussy”, “I will defeat ISIS in a day” and “immigrants are poisoning the blood of America” president would turn out to be a lousy piece of shit.

No one could see that coming.

Yes….

Trumptards are as dumb as Kamala voters.

Although the way trump is going…oh, never mind.

Anyway, buy your “Melania edition” bibles, everyone. And vote for the next pedo! D or R — you can’t lose! /s

On top of that, many trumptards spent 3+ years on “trust the plan”. Seriously dumb people. Most of my friends fell for this crap. They often talk about D voters being stupid. They’re no longer qualified to criticize.

Russia can also teach a lesson in political campaigning. To show there is no viable alternative to the incumbent, just ask rhetorically, “Who if not Trump?” (That would mirror “Who if not Putin” which was the motto of the 2012 presidential campaign in Russia). Then proceed to repeal the 22nd Amendment.

don’t think Russia can tech anybody in political campaigning.!

Russia DOES NOT have anything related to politics inside country!
it is just Putin replicated all over country.
====

it is same sh11it as before 1917, before 1991 and now during putin;s reign

Tsar, communists, or now. it is same

for now, it is mild barely functioning dictatorship. that is it!

Russia has been failing for centuries now. They’re really savoring the decline, and want to drag the rest of the world down with them.

Nah… it’s really only been the last century for us. Russia has been sinking for at least 500 years. The whole soviet thing was their dead cat bounce.
