Yesterday, a friend told me that Walz was not as much a Liberal Progressive as I thought. Let’s investigate.
What the Choice of Tim Walz Says About Kamala Harris
The Wall Street Journal comments on What the Choice of Tim Walz Says About Kamala Harris
Donald Trump did Democrats a favor by choosing a running mate who reinforced his base rather than reaching out to swing voters. Kamala Harris has now returned the favor in selecting Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the progressive favorite, as her pick for Vice President.
The choice that scared Republicans was popular Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, a swing state crucial to an Electoral College victory. But Mr. Shapiro, who is Jewish, was the target of an extraordinary and nasty campaign against him by the Democratic left. He was too pro-Israel and had upset unions by showing rhetorical support for school vouchers.
Ms. Harris appears to have wilted under this pressure, perhaps fearing protests at the Democratic convention in Chicago this month. She went with Mr. Walz instead, and there goes Mr. Trump’s hope of flipping the decisive swing state of Minnesota. That’s a joke, since the Land of 10,000 Liberals has voted Democratic in every presidential election since 1976.
Mr. Walz’s progressive bona fides will please Sen. Bernie Sanders and the teachers unions. But his governing record will be fodder for Mr. Trump. And picking him is a bad omen about the ability, or even willingness, of Ms. Harris to defy her party’s left.
Walz Scorecard
- Increasing taxes, though Minnesota already has the fifth-highest top income-tax rate among the states, 9.85% at $193,000 of earnings for a single filer. Mr. Walz added a 1% surtax on net investment income above $1 million, while reducing deductions, and the Governor wanted more.
- Minnesota is a rare state that still levies a death tax, up to 16%, on top of the federal 40% rate, which is one reason the state is losing taxpayers to better climes.
- Making an estimated 81,000 illegal immigrants in the state eligible for driver’s licenses, along with health insurance through the MinnesotaCare public marketplace.
- Funding “the North Star Promise Program, which provides free college for students with a family income under $80,000,” including illegal immigrants.
- Creating a state system for paid family and medical leave, capped at a combined 20 weeks a year and funded by a 0.88% payroll tax.
- Mandating that public utilities generate 80% carbon-free electricity by 2030, ramping up to 100% by 2040. He’s a fervent believer in “climate action.”
- Subsidizing electric vehicles by “requiring EV charging infrastructure within or adjacent to new commercial and multi-family buildings,” as the Governor’s office bragged.
- Passing one of the nation’s most permissive abortion statutes that has essentially no limits and no age consideration for minors.
- Declaring Minnesota to be a “trans refuge,” with a law saying that the state will ignore a “court order for the removal of a child issued in another state because the child’s parent or guardian assisted the child in receiving gender-affirming care in this state.”
- Establishing automatic voter registration and letting Minnesotans sign up for a permanent absentee ballot option.
I believe I can rest the case but I will throw in one last kicker.
If this is not kowtowing to the radical progressive wing of the Democratic party, then what the hell is radical Left?
Harris Goes With Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for VP, Why?
Earlier today I asked Harris Goes With Minnesota Governor Tim Walz for VP, Why?
Silver thinks Walz is a nice choice but “Shapiro was the higher-upside option that was probably worth the risk.“
I don’t know enough other than to say Shapiro has some issues with the Progressive Left. Was there anything else in the closet?
Perhaps the choice was to avoid riots in Chicago over Palestinian issues. But Walz will have some issues with with the middle.
Chicago Riots
This morning I pondered on Chicago riots. This afternoon, so did the WSJ.
I have no idea, but if that played any part of it, all I can say (and I am not the only one to say this) ….
Thank You Chicago

Tim Walz has no ideology whatsoever except that of his own personal advancement. He was a five term “moderate” Democrat from a rural, often (and currently) Republican district in southern Minnesota. He took on that good ol boy demeanor and visited with constituents in a red and black checked flannel shirt. Then he ran for governor as a moderate, but once in office became a radical progressive to appease the massive numbers of hard left Democrats in the Twin Cities who dominate the Democrat Party in the state. He was basically a rubber stamp for every idea they came up with including completely unregulated abortion and merging the right to abortion with the right of minors to transgender health care. In the last legislative session they (and he) blew through an $18 billion budget surplus that consisted mostly of unspent Federal relief money (and, by the way, Minnesota is one of a handful of states that tax Social Security income – in fact the state has the highest marginal tax rate on Social Security of any state in the country).
For campaign purposes with Harris he’s going back to being folksy ol Tim for his campaign duties in the non-urban areas of the electoral swing states in the Midwest.
Just remember none of his act is genuine. If, and when he gets into office he will transform himself again into a Progressive crusader that will blend in perfectly with the Harris wing of the Democratic Party.
Funding FMLA is regressive. Those on the margin of poverty are now more likely to fall into poverty. Those trying to climb out of poverty are now facing a tougher time.
Grew up in Stassen, McCarthy DFL land. It was ok then. NOW it is a total FUBAR, can I say that. The Mpls sports the largest somali and egyptian pop in the country. Well, it went south very fast. The whole city and subs whent off the left cliff into the abyss. Walz and Dayton were total commies, hence Moscow on the Mississippi.
There is a reason that Minneapolis nick name has changed from the ‘Twin cities’ to ‘Little Mogadishu’.
Tim Walz: “There’s no guarantee to free speech on misinformation or hate speech and especially around our democracy”.
How very Faucian of him.
I mentioned the other day I had noticed Trump’s cognitive decline since the shooting. Looks like other people a lot more qualified have noticed as well:
https://www.statnews.com/2024/08/07/trump-mental-health-linguistic-analysis-suggests-potential-cognitive-decline-experts-say/
I don’t know that he’s the same person he was even 6 months ago. Cognitive decline starts even in those who haven’t been shot at the age of 79 or 80. This is from many brain studies over large samples of people around the world. The shooting may have accelerated Trump’s cognitive decline in the last few weeks.
The Republicans should have run Haley. She could have been a winner nationally.
Harris/Walz
You betcha!
This is interesting because I don’t see a lot of those policies as “far left.”
When your list includes an item like paid FMLA, it feels like a big reach.
If you’d said he’d supported defining & dismantling the police force or pushed for a ban on all weapons in the state, then okay. But since nothing like that made your list, I’m inclined to think there’s nothing like that.
Ah Tampon Tim joins Kumelot Harris, the last of the baby boomers following in the footsteps of Da Nang Dick and Hotlips Hillary, Bimbo Bill’s first bimbo eruption. . .
All that matters is how he performed as governor. If you just look at his record, he is a Dollar Store version of Gavin Newsom – woke, foolish, confused and overall a rube willing to follow whatever direction the political winds blow.
He’s a perfect party candidate and an excellent match for Headboard Harris. He will never outshine her. That’s not a compliment.
The election will be decided in the middle east.

What if Kamala wins?
Nobody is going to be thanking Trump for thanking Kamala for her VP pic.
“If this is not kowtowing to the radical progressive wing of the Democratic party, then what the hell is radical Left?”
Does the left wing MSM ever use the term left wing? Just what is radical left, to the left wing and left wing MSM? It doesn’t really exist to them. Obama said, “we won the culture war,” then Democrats started a new one. This week, two men will be the Gold And Silver medal winners in women’s boxing, at the Olympics.
Exactly. Right, alt-right, far-right…it’s always made.a point to use these but it does not happen with the left.
“Funding “the North Star Promise Program, which provides free college for students with a family income under $80,000,” including illegal immigrants.”
So much for the Democrats claims that no one is above the law.
When Trump made Kamala’s race an issue, he played right into her hands. Kamala wants the fight about identity because that is all she has. She does not want to talk about policies or beliefs.
In the musical Hamilton, Hamilton attacked Aaron Burr’s lack of beliefs. Burr’s advice to Hamilton was to talk less and smile more. Burr had no values outside of his own political and financial ambition. That is who Kamala is. She is Aaron Burr.
She has no sense of right and wrong only what makes her look good. She did not want to look badly with the progressives so that is why she made the VP pick she did.
What policies does trump talk about? Every speech is 2 hours of whining.
Really?
Closed borders, deport criminals and maybe more expansive.
Persistence of the tax cuts, which contrary to the left’s assertion benefit nearly everyone including me and everyone I know in the lowest tax brackets.
No foreign aid to Ukraine and a push to end that war that never should have started.
Funding strong police, ending the “defund the police movement”; crack down on crime.
End the fentanyl importation and all its fallout.
Resume extensive energy independence/production.
Scrap the mandates against ICE cars, gas stoves, gas furnaces.
End the wasteful agencies such as the redundant federal Department of Education.
I mean the whining is present, sure, becuase he has eyes like many of his supporters–we see what’s transpired in 4 years. I mean if you can’t vote to ban illegals voting in federal elections where is the nation going, especially as Kamala says we need to reform immigration and give pathway to citizenship–exactly what we said was the plan all along, let them in and grant them citizen status for which we were called conspiracy theorists.
To say he hasn’t discussed policy is silly. And to ignore that we have 4 years of a previous presidency which should also serve as a predictor of policy.
And if we follow that logic then we can look to California and Minneaopolis to see what policies Kamala Harris and Tim Walz would embrace. If only the MSM would actually ask those questions of her. Also of note–notice MSM doesn’t even mention any bad domestic news now, it’s as if it’s just one lovefest of Kamala. Question: Where is BIden? Why is he still president. She should be president now; they ran him off the ticket but left him in charge. For that they are criminally negligent, willing to do anything to win political favor and power but not actually govern.
Trump has policy proposals? Like what? I think he’s promised tax cuts to basically everyone on the planet now, so there’s that.
I know this man!

Have you seen this? Your migrant problem is over. Minnesota wants them bad. Clear out your migrant camps and send the busses to Minnesota. Also, send your U-hauls because a lot of rich people are going to leave Minnesota for your state.
I am reading comments here that indicates that some of you ACTUALLY THINK that there are Material Differences, on Insurance, wars, Justice and the BIGGER issues we are facing, between the two parties???
WTF?
Do you think there is no difference between candidates positions on Judicial approach?
One party has been actively attempting to subvert the Judicial branch to its political ideology while the other party is resisting loading the dice at the Bench. Appointing strict constructionalist jurists is adhering to the Founding principles of this nation by maintaining separation of powers.
If a person finds themselves in a minority position how would you expect to get fair hearing if instead of a Judge your are facing a political appointee based upon ideology of a majority?
That the press refuses to discuss real issues and outcomes does not mean those same issues do not exist.
“Appointing strict constructionalist jurists is adhering to the Founding principles of this nation by maintaining separation of powers.”
Well: That went out the door with the “fire in crowded theatre” nonsense. And has been going nowhere but straight down from there.
Complete arbitrary discretion, has been the sole and only “principle” of this dystopia for 150 years now. America was founded with proper money, no standing armies, no income taxes, NO restrictions on own and carry, no entangling alliances…. no, no,no, no to every single idiocy that both current idiot-parties and their captive indoctrinati uncritically embrace.
“Judicial approach” means nothing, when the realistic difference between the two idiot camps are effectively nothing. The whole thing amounts to not one lick more than simply being pulled around by the nosering by Massa. While pliantly acting happy about it, to boot.
It makes NO difference, to almost anyone, exactly who ends up “winning” this latest silly contest. Taxes will remain, ditto shortages of everything: From housing to health care to, by now, even food. American competitiveness will continue to fall even further behind ever more other countries (we’re down there with The Congo already…) . Ambulance chasing rabble and useless Fed theft beneficiaries will continue to rob more all more sentient and useful Americans, with the aid of the ever more totalitarian state.”The debt” will be yet higher. Deficits as well. Even more will be wasted on idiotic adventurism abroad. As well as childish grandstanding aimed at affording rank idiots the opportunity to pretend they are “statesmen” and has anything at all of value to contribute to anything and anywhere…..etc.,etc. NONE of this will differ, in any meaningful way, regardless of which party of idiots nominally “wins” the next childish autumn ritual. Instead, the only purpose the whole thing serves, is to force even more attention to be paid to the utter riffraff making up both the idiot camps.
Our Society is much more complex then when this Nation was founded.
Its resources are also much more complex. These things have occurred long before I was born and will continue long after I am gone.
My only concern is what kind of a Shepard I am of what has been a situation not of my making but one I am living in now and will be leaving to the generations of my bloodline that follow.
It is doubtful that a return to the simplicity of the past is possible.
Being a pragmatist therefor leaves me with making the best of what has been placed at my feet to work with.
Do I endorse this situation as the greatest ever? No I do not.
Do I embrace the two party/slash uniparty as the next Living God to be followed? That is ridiculous.
Do I think Thought can get introduced to challenge where things are headed? Yes I do.
Thoughts can be dangerous to established notions and are always fought tooth and nail as we experience the censorship efforts to stop Free Thought and Free speech.
This is why I know that Thoughts can alter the future as they can change or affect peoples minds.
Am not into using Force as it is the resort of the Feeble minded, who always trot it out when they are caught drowning in their own stupidity.
So if we are to change the future which is revealed in our minds first via our perceptions, we must introduce new thoughts to alter this current Paradigm.
“Our Society is much more complex then when this Nation was founded.”
As is technology and industry. All done without altering the fundamental laws of nature…
There is no; or at least precious few; reasons why similarly fundamental economic laws must be altered.
Arbitrary complexity can be built on top of very simple fundamental constructs. But only as as long as those constructs are truly universal. Which, in economics, requires derivation from first principles. No amount of Krugman digging up some random period of time where one of his gross oversimplifications appear to hold, will ever pass that standard.
In the natural sciences, sufficiently overwhelming empirical evidence can; tentatively; be substituted for logical truth. But that’s only due to the lucky happenstance that the entities under study; such as atoms and planets; can be assumed to not have a rational mind of their own; hence try to game each study; and the response to it; for their own ends.
Economics affords no such luxury. Ergo: It’s either direct deduction from first principles (themselves deducible from; effectively; competitive evolution). OR it’s just nonsense; bandied about by charlatans, and uncritically fallen for by lightweights. As is the case with various blind faith fads like Marxism, Keynesianism, Monetarism and all the rest. And it is these exercises in applied silliness which have served to excuse one act of government overreach or another. All in some futile effort to supposedly “manage” “the economy.” Non of which will ever even a theoretical chance of serving any other purpose than granting ever more arbitrary power to whichever Dear Leader brings up the sillyism.
The parties are the same, but Trump is (aside from Israel) off the Deep State reservation when it comes to instigating strife and turmoil around the globe. That’s why they did Russiagate, hid Hunter’s laptop and then lied about it and probably were involved in trying to kill Trump after lawfare failed to take him out but before he could name Vance (another problematic candidate) as his VP choice.
… and fully on the Derp State.
You can make the case that Biden and Trump are the same economically, borrow and spend. Neither had any interest in fiscal responsibility or balancing the budget.
However, if you look at foreign policy, Biden catered to the military industrial complex, and Trump hated it. Trump thinks the USA has a horrible deal with NATO and wants out of it. I think the Ukraine war ends in no time if Trump wins.
With Israel, I think Trump can talk to Netanyahu and at least turn down the heat some. Netanyahu has walked all over Biden.
So yeah, I think there is a huge difference between Biden/Harris and Trump with foreign policy.
Huge, as in +-1% of military spending…Now ain’t that huge.
America was founded without a standing army. That is a huge difference. Dorking around forever perpetuating yet another failed system of this failed state, +- no more than a percent or two; is an insult to the very word “huge.”
Materially there is little difference. Debt is incurred at effectively the same rate. It is a question if that debt goes to the rich to reduce their taxes or the middle and lower classes. To the billionaires, I say go ahead and leave the US and give up your citizenship. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. There is really going to be little anyone in power can do about climate change, wars or debt. And there is no turning back the clock and erecting trade barriers to somehow make things better. We’ve been down this path since the 2000s and both parties are to blame.
Some positives: he’s actually run a state unlike Cackleberry or Vance and done so competently within a liberal context. Not like Illinois or California.
He has more China experience than anybody but his human rights obsession may mean more impractical nonsense, with the US isolating itself by its arrogance in dictating to others. The US won’t back away from Stupidity as with a bill to “counter China” with guess what? More Sanctions !
The trans thing is ugly but since the US is going full Idiocracy, keeping fools away from reproduction may be for the best. Let Mormons, Amish and Born Again Christians fill the cribs.
His military stuff has no traction. Bush Jr. was a joke and got elected anyway.
I blame Republicans because they hung abortion around their necks like an albatross and never stopped – and never move on legal immigration. Vance wants more babies but Walz gives them free meals at school, instead of just slamming cat ladies.
How guns vs butter is this guy? That’s looming as a big choice in the near future.
Walz will be irrelevant. Harris will leave the entire security state as it is, with the three letter agencies (and NED) roving the world like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
You may be right. I just hope when Trump loses, the Republicans pick up enough in the Senate or House to slow down craziness
He does have experience on running a state into the ground. In that he and Newsom are alike. These valuable lessons will be put to use in running the country into the ground if they get into office.
He’s certainly against you having a gun. Given butter comes from cows and cows have been declared to contribute to global warming he’s probably against all dairy products as well.
He’s not against you having a gun – he’s simply for gun control. He is a hunter and gun owner.
In the past, he has been “A” rated by the NRA.
Tim Walz is “Holding a pig at a country fair radical”
https://i.redd.it/fysebgovg2hd1.jpeg
And it seems as though his daughter actually likes him! The horror.
Didn’t realize that spawns liking their parents was an asset. How has Cocaine Biden’s love for papa made papa better? Or Cocaine Biden?
Walz won’t be in charge of anything even if he becomes the VP. The main job of the VP (with exceptions like Cheney) is to attend state funerals of presidents, prime ministers and royalty around the world.
On the topic of Israel, Walz is just as much of a Zionist as Shapiro, except that the doesn’t wear it on the sleeve as much as Shapiro does.
A Harris win means continuation of fighting to the last Ukrainian, supporting Israel 100% (same as Trump), continuing to try to regime change Hungary and Kazakhstan, roping Georgia and Armenia into NATO (for the next proxy war against Russia), regime changing Myanmar and Thailand and setting up the Philippines for a proxy war against China, etc.
Unfortunately Americans don’t understand or care about the rest of the world – only about issues like abortion which is 98% the same (or even more lenient) as before Dobbs.
Dems had the chance after the breakdown of Biden, loss of Manchin, Gabbard, Kennedy to sit and reflect upon the situation.
Someone in Politics who was rational may have had a thought gee wizz this is not where we want to be going.
But noooooooooo they must double down. Something appropriate about that famous Einstein quote doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome as the definition of being insane comes to mind.
This is what Dems consider moving to the middle. After all everyone else is weird cepting them.
Politicians rarely ever “Self-Reflect” which is the downfall for many a hopeful Nominee. Sometimes it goes unnoticed, others it has crushed, and some get rewarded for it.
Look at Trump and his use of words, Kamala and her Cackle, Biden and his inability to speak coherently, Newsom and his destructive policies, and annihilation of CA. Cheney and her J6 debacle, and the list is simply endless…
Trump does say things that raise hackles across the board. His game does inflict psychological stress on his opponents. Why would someone like Trump who is a very skilled negotiator do that on purpose?
Perhaps a reflection on how deeply the real problems of this Nation are getting glossed over in ongoing efforts at making everything personal.
He does not move on bedrock issues such as energy independence, illegal immigration, crime, weaponization of judicial system, America first.
Since there has been an all out effort to smear everything about the man to make it personal, his actual policy stances are quite solid and unwavering.
He just throws some shit back at the perpetrators.
Seems fair play to me.
I agree 100%
ES [1M] is down 600 point from the top. The wave from Oct 2023 low to the top is 1,600 points. ES landed on a support line coming from Oct 2011 low to Feb 2016 low. 600/1,600 = 37.5%. The wave from Oct 2022 low to the top is 2,219 points. 600/2,219 = 27%. If Iran attacks ES might tumble downhill on its back, until the Nov election.
The Last Walz …
Anyone who wants to put tampons in 4th grade boy’s bathrooms should not be calling anyone else “weird”. Total lack of self-awareness.
Maybe he is getting bribed by Proctor & Gamble?
Maybe someone is getting the story all wrong a la Fox News
How is it wrong? Tampon Tim signed the bill that required them in all bathrooms.
Isn’t it pretty much liberal orthodoxy by now that it’s discrimination to restrict any of the 49 “genders” from using any bathroom they want to?
Here’s Tim’s defender. Good luck, Scott. There’s always gotta be one guy who will defend tampon dispensers in boy’s bathrooms.
What about sixth seventh eighth ninth tenth eleventh and twelfth grades?

Four years ago the Trump administration filed a lawsuit against Googl. A verdict was issue on Mon : Googl has been paying $18B entities like AAPL, Samsung and the SF mafia to monopolize their search engine, suppressing freedom and other search engines, making $300B from advertisement, after raising ads prices. If Trump wins, after the supreme court verdict, his administration can dismantle Googl, AMZN and Meta and Kamala Harris can go to jail.
Just a tad ahead of your skis, are you not? You’re assuming Trump Wins, and currently that’s 50%/50%. You’re also assuming a SCOTUS ruling and that’s never smart, as you never know what could occur there. I highly doubt a dismantling ruling will apply, and this is in its infancy stages, as trials and sentencing etc. are finally handed down. Heck, this may never even go to Court, and certainly could be tied up in the Courts for a decade easily…slow down.
If Trump wins and If Scotus confirm the federal judge verdict, his administration can dismantle Googl as former administrations dismantled AT&T and the railroads, or prevent them from bribing other entities, herd together creating a bubble, attacking political opponents, muzzling enemies, or just fine them. At this point Googl controls 90% of the search engine, after dismantling Bill Gates 25 years ago, doing what they want, serving their masters.
“If”… “If”… “If”… like I said slow down.
“If” everybody on Earth learned how to fish, Hunger would disappear from the World tomorrow…
“If” I play the Lottery tonight, I could be a Millionaire tomorrow…
I have a long position on Googl.
I wonder how many of Kamala’s VP options turned her down?
At least one. Gavin told her back in January – “What? No way! You’re a loser Kam.”
All the smart ones, which is why we got a Biden 2.0 Clone…
He is a fertile field of Progressive Issue turnips all ready to be picked by Republican harvesters.
Which candidate will be most capable of asking these hard questions?
As concise a summary of lock limit, naive idiocy as any I’ve seen.
Par for the course for the Fed Theft City Times, of course.
Is the pick of Walz as simple as this?
Certainly sounds plausible.
We are, after all, dealing with children. Wanting to be mommy’s favorite, is about as advanced a like of “reasoning” as can be expected from any of them.
Walz signed an executive order stating MN supports gender-affirming healthcare. In other words, we’ll let you castrate your kid before your ex-husband even finds out. He also signed the most extreme abortion law in the country, You can now terminate the pregnancy at any time until the kid graduates from high school.
This is why the democrats will successfully steal this election from Cornel West and the Trumpster will rest in the tampon-bin of history.
You sound weird.
Cornel who??!!
Cornel Sanders.
Good for him to get picked even after publicly carrying water for the current president last month. It shows he’s a team player (or at least a good toady).
At least she wasn’t badmouthing him a year ago. True toady is better than turncoat toady.
Command Sergeant Major, the highest non-commissioned rank in military and the most respected commissioned or non-commissioned. Coached high school state title winning football team. Knows how to work a crowd and room. This will soon be seen as a shrewd pic.
He quit the reserves when he found out they were going to Iraq. Abandoned his men and deprived them of a leadership position as they went overseas to risk their lives. Choosing a coward isn’t shrewd.
“He quit the reserves when he found out they were going to Iraq.”
If only all of them were that sentient.
He was never credentialed as Command Sergeant Major, he retired as Master Sergeant. Takes two minutes to look up.
He was forced to quit coaching that high school team after his DUI. That should’ve also ended his reservist military career but somehow didn’t. Instead he quit when he found out his unit was being sent to Iraq and has been lying about combat ever since.
Good choice.
He’s not an ice cream cone. You don’t have to keep licking.
Progressive…as far from progress as conservative is from conservation. Politics is just advertising with a larger budget.
should I call him trans-timmy, lgbt-IT walz
or just say laughin-K and grandma timmy
Trannyapolis.
It’s “Tampon Tim.”
Here in Australia there is a brand of biscuits named TimTams. 2 biscuits stuck together with a creamy centre and covered in chocolate. They are frequently eaten by dipping one end in a hot drink and sucking up the drink through the centre of the biscuit. If the moniker Tampon Tim takes off it will be a field day for memes involving TimTams.
Where would he put the tampon?
In his mangina.
Ouch. Lol.
Fantastic summary. What a gift!
