Trump wins Iowa easily. Results declared with only 3% of the vote in. Surprisingly, immigration, not the economy is the top concern.

Trump was declared the winner with only three percent of the vote in.
This is how it looks with 99% in according to CBS Live Stream

Entrance Poll Data

I don’t know if that lead image holds. But it is a major uphill battle for Biden if immigration decides this race.
Heck, Biden is well behind on the economy as well.
Next up, is New Hampshire.

M.J. has a job to do!!!
Remember, it takes just one member of the House to bring a motion to “vacate the chair,” and there is no way that Johnson would survive such a motion with the narrow majority Republicans currently hold. At least one GOP member, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, has threatened to bring such a motion unless the border is shut down.
While outwardly supporting MJ, if he doesn’t get the Border Closed, then get him out!
I wonder if fox news having immigration stories all day, every day, has something to do with older people from Iowa saying it’s their main concern?
Yeah. Same as 2016. If Trump only focused on one thing during his presidency, immigration, he would have won 2020 even with massive cheating.
100% this. Even though I despised Trump’s personality, I was excited to vote for him in 2016 because of his stance on immigration and other policies. But personally, I found his presidency extremely disappointing. He betrayed those that voted for him and didn’t get around to the wall until his final year, where a whopping 47 miles were built out of a 2,000 mile border. Said he was going to deport DACAs during his campaign, then president Trump says that they’re some really wonderful kids.
I honestly can’t understand why his base continues to support him so rabidly. He didn’t do ANY of the things he said he was going to do. Didn’t even really try. Delegated his presidency to his bimbo daughter and son-in-law. Surrounded himself with swamp creatures like John Bolton, acted like a total wimp and shut down the country over the flu, listened to Fauci, etc. Trump has a big mouth, but no cojones.
He’s a terrible debater, a terrible orator, and probably the only person that Biden could legitimately beat. Trump just can’t shut up and let his enemies make mistakes.
Yeah, look how well his Mexican paid wall has worked. His Roe reversal is another big political winner.
No caucus attendants were told it was a CNN poll. We were told it was a “Press” poll. There was not any personal information, no phone numbers, Nothing of the sort. It should have been an accurate poll. But I do think that few people would have filled it out if they knew CNN was behind it.
Say does anybody know where the 250 million bucks went to feed the children in Minnesota? sad deal, bought some nice properties over seas though.
It’s already crowded here. We need less people, not more.
“Surprisingly?!?” What planet do these reporters live on?
Iowa GOPers are just responding to their dog whistles. Estimated illegals are about 1% of pop, mostly Mexicans. Iowa meatpackers replaced white & black union meatpackers with brown non-union workers to cut pay & working conditions. Tyson got caught actually smuggling illegals from Mexico up to Iowa.Ditto for farm workers.
The economy is good so GOP has to contrive a crisis by blocking bipartisan measures to improve border security. Immigration controls have been poor at Mexican border forever. Occassionally GOP presidents (Hoover & Eisenhower) have thrown out millions of Mexicans & Mexican-American citizens for theater to make political hay. Then we let up and they return, sometimes aided by GOP admins to get cheap labor for their political supporters.
Iowa vote results are a nothingburger, totally unrepresentative of US pop. A small homogeneous state in a large heterogeneus nation.
There are no “bipartisan border security” plans on offer. There are let’s continue breaking the immigration law Ted Kennedy wrote plans on offer to let anyone in to stay, but there are zero plans to enforce the law. And don’t start on about the border law being “broken;” no one’s ever tried enforcing it, so how would anyone know?
“Iowa GOPers are just responding to their dog whistles. Estimated illegals are about 1% of pop…”
Ioawans know what is going on at the border, just as anyone else, as well as the problems being caused in blue cities such as NYC and Chicago. Mayors Adams and Johnson stopped paying attention to Mayorkas’s dog whistle that there was no illegal immigration problem.
“The economy is good so GOP has to contrive a crisis”
You have to be mentally ill. Anyone who denies the titanic rise in food prices, gas prices (etc) is a lunatic.
Illegal aliens are pouring across the border with no vetting, no disease inspections, nothing. Legal immigrants are required to undergo medical exams and background checks.
I’m not surprised that illegal immigration ranks so high. Illegal immigrants expands the welfare, wrecks social cohesion and causes huge problems for local communities (crime, medical costs, and schools).
I am surprised abortion is ahead of foriegn policy (wars). How cares if Democrats abort future Democrats. But it’s a wedge issue that appeals to female voters and gets trotted out every 4 years to get votes.
The real challenge is how on earth is the deep state and the Democrat-media complex going to conjure up a way to steal the next election? Clearly all their talking points and efforts to steer the narrative and lawfare have the opposite effect.
They may end up not only losing, but by such a wide margin that no amount of “games” will be enough to swing the result. They don’t seem to have the resources or support to start a new war, and they don’t seem to have momentum for more riots.
It’s the economy, stupid!
No GOP pres candidate has won the pop vote since 2004 and trump has more political baggage than any major party candidate ever.Biden campaign raised a record $100 million last quarter so prepare to be disappointed – again
The Fed will be cutting rates this year, just in time for the election. They also want to slow down and then stop QT (see today’s article in the WSJ), which will goose the economy for the incumbent! Keep in mind that it’s a LONG way to November!
Iowa is very white. It is low on the scale of college degrees. Low wage immigrants impact what is available.
I don’t really know if illegals do more to hurt or help the economy. My taxes haven’t been increased to support them. I don’t see them being vagrants looking for handouts, at least in my neck of the woods. I’m sure they are low-cost labor for agriculture in Florida, which probably helps my food budget. Does anyone have access to definitive studies on their economic impact?
Have your taxes gone up because of the Ukraine or Biden’s green energy boondoggles? Or student loan forgiveness or any of the other million things the government is wasting our money on? We’re well beyond taking funds from the taxpayer coffers — it’s all being borrowed to tune of $34 trillion in national debt.
Per this article, about 55% of immigrants and 60% of illegals are on at least one type of welfare program.
https://cis.org/Report/Welfare-Use-Immigrants-and-USBorn
Regardless of whether they’re hard workers, the jobs that illegals are qualified for are low skill and low paying and I probably don’t need to tell you that the U.S. is a very expensive country to live in. Sorry, but you’re not going to support your illegal family of five on a $15/hour driving for uber or doordash. Government assistance is necessary to bridge the gap.
The latest crop of illegal invaders might sap even more freebies because more are from coming Haiti and Africa. It’s likely they’re even less skilled or intelligent that their central and south american counterparts.
Thanks for the link to the article. Two things I found interesting: 1. 59% of illegal immigrant families collect some form of welfare based on having US born children, versus 52% of legal immigrants who can collect because they have legal status. And 2. 94% of illegal immigrants have an immediate family member working compared to 79% of US citizen households.
So that brings up the question of whether the value of their production is greater than their use of government resources. Should the country pay $100 billion in welfare to people who may be reducing our food costs by $200 billion? I would say yes. That’s a personal preference of course. But I would love to know the answer to the question.
Good point, people have been reluctant to publicly point out the relationship between skin color and intelligence in recent decades. Darker=dumber.
” The latest crop of illegal invaders might sap even more freebies because more are from coming Haiti and Africa. It’s likely they’re even less skilled or intelligent that their central and south american counterparts.
You can substitute “less educated” instead if that’s more politically correct, but the sentiment is the same.
Even worse, the most high IQ people from the countries with lower average IQ do not need to sneak through borders like vagabonds. The more advanced countries are open to educated professionals through regular channels. In short, we are getting the dumbest of the dumbest.
No kidding, Shedlock. We are only at the beginning of witnessing all the bad things that are going to playout from having 14M illegals run across the border in 4 years aided and abided by Mayorkas & his cronies. In 10 years, this 14M will easily grow 2-3x due to anchor babies. It’s just mindboggling how asleep at the wheel the American electorate is.
FJB!
Immigration of productive people is the back bone of economic growth. Immigration of useless eaters, not so much. Whoever voted for biden voted for this. It is criminal what biden has done to the USA. Straight up felonious.
I suspect that it’s not the useless immigrants that are the problem, rather, it’s the unvetted potential criminals and foreign agents and all the public safety and security risks. The primary job of any government is defence from invasion, and law & order.
There is no example in history where a bunch of random people from different cultures were thrown together to create a cohesive society. Singapore? No, it’s a soft totalitarian state that maintains a strict 75% Chinese majority.
They can be hard working all they want, disparate cultures do not integrate. That’s how you get Brazil or India.
We have a a war criminal in the oval office. He cares about Israel more than his own country that will be wrecked by the more than 2 millions immigrants who come in in the last two years
ES and NQ don’t like the Iowa results.
Behind the concerns about immigration is the discussion about the lack of affordable houseing.
Not unique to America… it’s a burning issue in Canada, UK, Australia, EU, all G7…
Housing is very affordable in places where people don’t want to live and unaffordable where they do want to live, a mismatch between supply & demand. Upstate NY is very affordable housing but weak job markets. St Lawrence Seaway changed the whole economic dynamic.
Immigration is not the top issue. Most people are OK with the entry of vetted lawful productive people. Illegals and open borders are the top issue. It is woke bull to call illegals undocumented migrants.
Republicans supporting legal immigration from any country outside of Western Europe is a myth.
The founding fathers intended the USA to be a white nation, particularly British or Nordic.
Unfortunately the white populations stopped having children, so even if immigration was solely restricted to the west, you’d still get tons of brown and black people.
trump specificall favors immigration from Norway, wonder why?
Only Taylor Swift will stop Trump.
Chis Christie isn’t big enough for the job.
I’m really disappointed with Chris Christie’s performance. He needed another 300 votes just to pull his own weight.
If I read that top CBS result correctly, it says 36% of White Iowa Evangelicals who caucused Republican think that Immigration is the top issue. Slightly.
The views of this group of people would not necessarily reflect the view of any general electorate. And, they won’t vote Biden, anyway.
So, CBS filling screen space.
I’m curious for the reasons for the down-votes.
I’m wondering the same thing as you. The screen print Mish provided clearly shows what you pointed out, and you make a valid point.
I guess some people felt your statement was either inaccurate or maybe they felt you were being derogatory towards evangelicals?Who knows? I’ve found that lots of people treat thier political views as a religion.
Those results imply Evangelicals are far more receptive to illegal aliens that the rest of the country. Such a message runs counter to the stereotyping CBS is perpetuating.
Evangelicals are wackjobs. Despite the public image of them being white racists, they tend to believe (despite all empirical evidence) that all people are the same but for skin color. No differences in testosterone levels, time preference, or IQ.
Smart ethnic groups like the Japanese and Chinese don’t fall for that kumbaya “we are all the same” nonsense. Hence, their cities are getting MORE functional over time while the west is decaying into a third world dump.
As the left knows, polls are used to steer opinion, not to reflect it.
What happens in Iowa stays in Iowa, totally unrepresenative of US population.
Washington DC insists that every border on planet Earth is a vital “US national security interest.” But somehow our own sovereignty, physical security and borders aren’t. This is pure, unfiltered treason.
Except for urban areas 3000mi US border w Canada is easily crossed and 1500mi Mexican border has never been effectively controlled, just occassional politically motivated crackdowns mostly by GOP pols. Hoover and Eisenhower threw out several million Mexican-American citizens. Eisenhower did this after Mexico had supplied millions of workers supporting US war efforts, so GOP border hypocrisy is nothing new.
