Trump is Now Toxic, The Value of His Endorsement is Negative

The Trump Brand is Not Recoverable

Major campaign contributions to Trump and endorsements will sink like a rock. His brand is history.

The same applies to the 11 foolish senators who elected to go down with Trump’s sinking ship.

Who Wants a Refund?

The Tweet I replied to drips with irony if you read it carefully.

Major Donor Bails on Senator Hawley

Hawley was one of the 11 Republican Senators who opportunistically went down on the sinking Trump ship.

Please note that A Major Josh Hawley Donor Calls for Him to be Censured by the U.S. Senate

A Joplin businessman who helped bankroll Sen. Josh Hawley’s first campaign denounced him on Thursday as a “political opportunist” who used “irresponsible, inflammatory, and dangerous tactics” to incite the rioting that took over the U.S. Capitol Building.

In a statement late Thursday, David Humphreys, president and CEO of Tamko Building Products, added his voice to a growing chorus of Republicans angry at Hawley for leading a challenge to the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

Humphreys called on the U.S. Senate to censure Hawley “for provoking yesterday’s riots in our nation’s capital.”

The statement to The Missouri Independent came a few hours after Hawley’s political mentor, former U.S. Sen. Jack Danforth, said in an interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that supporting Hawley was “the worst mistake I ever made in my life.”

It also came on the same day that the publisher Simon & Schuster canceled a contract with Hawley for a book it had expected to release in June.

David Humphreys personally donated $2.875 million to Hawley. He would like his money back.

Alas, that contribution was worse than wasted.

Hawley should be censured by his Senate colleagues for his actions which have undermined a peaceful transition of power and for provoking yesterday’s riots in our nation’s capital. We owe it to our children and grandchildren to protect our country and its Constitutional underpinnings,” said Humphreys.

Book Cancelled, Too Toxic

Add the First Amendment to the list of items Hawley is clueless about.

Rupert Murdoch Abandoned Trump

Please recall my December 29 report Rupert Murdoch Turns on Trump in a Scathing NY Post Attack

If you insist on spending your final days in office threatening to burn it all down, that will be how you are remembered. Not as a revolutionary, but as the anarchist holding the match.”

Anarchist Holding the Match

That was one of the the best political prophesies in years.

Impeachable Offenses

The Wall Street Journal was late to the party but finally got to the correct spot. The Journal noted “Trump crossed the line“, citing “impeachable offenses“.

I commented on the Journal Op-Ed in Trump Crossed a Constitutional Line and Should Resign.

Self Destruction

The Journal piles on with ‘In a Dark Place’: A President Increasingly Angry and Isolated.

Advisers said the president remains consumed with anger toward Vice President Mike Pence over what he saw as a betrayal for refusing to try to block the congressional certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s election victory.

“I don’t want to be your friend,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Pence. “I want you to be the vice president.

“It’s like watching someone self-destruct in front of your very eyes, and you can’t do anything,” said another adviser who recently spoke to the president.

The president has recently told advisers he is considering issuing a pardon for himself before he leaves office, which some allies have urged him to do but which has dubious legal basis.

Mr. Trump in 2018 said he had the “absolute right” to self-pardon, “but why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?”

Hawley, the Opening Salvo

Negative articles from once staunch supporters as well as rats abandoning Trump’s sinking ship will impact donations, not just to Trump but to anyone still supporting Trump.

Hawley was just the opening salvo.

US Business Leaders Abandon Trump

The Financial Times notes US business Leaders Rue their ‘Faustian Bargain’ with Trump.

  • Stephen Schwarzman, Blackstone founder and one of Trump’s most senior Wall Street backers, condemned the “appalling” insurrection “that followed the president’s remarks”.
  • Activist investor Nelson Peltz told CNBC that he had voted for the president in November but was now “sorry I did that”.
  • The National Association of Manufacturers asked Pence to “seriously consider working with the cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment” to remove the Trump from office.
  • Dan Eberhart, CEO of a drilling company, gave $100,000 to Trump. “I’m done. I don’t want my mom to think I’m involved with this,” said Eberhart
  • 33 CEOs in a poll by Yale School of Management professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld found unanimous support for the idea that companies would no longer fund “election result deniers”.
  • There’s not a major chief executive who’s a Trump supporter now,” Prof Sonnenfeld declared.

Trump Damage

Thanks For the Hoot

Question of the Day

In an impeachment, Congress could prohibit Trump from running again.

But that would be a huge mistake. It would give Trump a platform from which to moan for years, “I would have won.”

In short order, the damage he can do to the Nation will be minimal. All Trump will be able to do is make a fool of himself.

Why deprive Trump the opportunity to further go up in flames?

If you you actually think Trump would or even could win four years from now, please re-read this post until this sinks in:

Trump’s legacy is sealed. He will be viewed as the anarchist holding the match.

All that’s left for Trump is a pile of lawsuits, some of which might put him in prison.

Mish unlike you there are probably 150+ million Americans who don’t trust the government as far as they can throw them. I’m not talking about Trump either. If you think the left is not in bed with communist China and the globalist Oligarchs you are sadly mistaken.

I’m not really sure that you understand what globalism means to the future of this country? I don’t think you have a clue on that subject. But inform me I’d like to hear your take on that?

I have no problem with Facebook and Twitter wanting to ban Trump. They are private businesses, and do not have to provide free speech. Trump, or others, can then go to other private companies who choose to support free speech. So, then what happens when Apple and Google choose not to let the apps be downloaded from their store? Now you are getting a little sketchier, but that’s still OK. Google and Apple have the rights to provide rules for apps they download for people.

Ok, so, now we need an independent download store from which apps can be downloaded. Those exist, though, so no problem…yet. Now what happens when Mastercard and Paypal get involved, and cut off access for free speech apps to fund themselves? What about when browsers and search engines block access to places where free speech aps can be downloaded?

The tremendous control that is being taken over what can and can not be said on the internet makes me wonder about the future of free speech. China doesn’t allow free speech, for sure. The US claims to, but increasingly Big Tech is working to prevent it. To see the future, it is interesting to read about events surrounding “Dissenter”, formerly an addin to Firefox, how Big Tech worked to stop them, and how they fought back, and still exist, so far.

I thought it was odd when I read how supposedly liberal Google was working with China on a special search engine for China which would only show sites approved by China. How could any liberal want anything to do with that. Once you get away from the notion that Google is “liberal”, it makes more sense.

Time for the Republicans to step up and tell Tr7mp to resign immediately or be impeached. Even just a threat of impeachment should be enough to get Trump to step down rather than face the loss of protection and benefits should he be successfully impeached. “Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

That’s a double-edged sword. If the politics swing the other way in a future election then it could also be used against you if the precedent is created. On the other hand if you count on remaining in power forever then this law could be quite useful in eliminating the opposition as well as rivals in your own camp.

Just as these last 21 years of financial and fiscal austerity policies have been toxic. All the barriers to fiscal stimulus on steroids have been removed with the fracturing of the Republican Party.

Time now to inject tens of trillions of dollars into a massive fiscal new deal, to end these destructive zirp interest rate policies. $2k onetime checks aren’t going to cut it either, $2k a month is what it will take.

MMT, UBI, reparations, whatever it takes, are now possible, with no political opposition. The frightened public is now primed for government intervention into a dysfunctional economy.

The Fed and Treasury know that deflation is poison, they lose control. Inflation, on the other hand, puts them firmly in control. Interest rate policy and taxation are tools that easily bring it under control.

Inflation is also easy to hedge for any investor with common sense. So, bring it on. It’s that, or civil unrest will bring down the country.

Back in the 70’s we had double digit inflation and interest rates, and hardly any homeless camps, and everyone got regular raises to keep up. We had a fraction of the numbers of people on food stamps and other forms of public welfare. Retirees got decent returns on their savings.

Besides, it doesn’t cost anything to print money. Just ask Bernanke.

Long term consequences be damned, because,,,,,In the long run we are all dead.

/s. Or maybe not. 😉

I’m very interested in what happens to Ted Cruz. I wish I could say I agree that his Trump butt kissing would be the end of his career, but I somehow doubt it.

He has four years before he has to run to defend his Senate seat, or try again to get the Republican nomination for President, which is his real ambition.

The guy is a real piece of work. He reminds me a lot of Scalia. Evil, but very, very smart.

Don’t underestimate his ability to come back from this. He very well could be the heir apparent to the Tump base….which is not about to disappear just because a few of them go to prison for the events of Jan 6.

But you are right about one thing. The Donald J. Trump era is at an end.

Thank God. I wasn’t sure we’d get through this transition and remain intact as a nation that respects political tradition and the rule of law.

The problem with Texas is the pro-life religious bloc vote…that is what brought us from a state that could elect an Ann Richards….to a state with Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, Ted Cruz, and Dan (Goebbel) Patrick.

Evangelical Christians and Catholics together make up 51% of the voting public.

Texas politics changed because of dissatisfaction with the Roe v. Wade decision. It’s all about a change in attitude among Christian voters.

I’ve talked with some of my creative friends about what a great book or screenplay someone could write about this…..so many larger than life figures….and it’s been playing out since I was a kid, really.
