Comments of the Day

Mish,

I’m a trump supporter…. he out worked Biden so Trump is understandably vested in the outcome.

The issue is: are the changes made in the voting procedures constitutional?

Meaning:

  1. Were the election procedure changes made by the state legislature and only by the state legislature?
  2. Did the State consistently apply the election procedures across the state? You can’t have different interpretations within a state. States can vary greatly from each other but within a state, the same procedures are required.

In PA (for example), the state legislature specifically said that ballots needed to be RECEIVED by Election Day – not postmarked. A state court judge said that more time was allowed for receipt provided the ballot was postmarked a d that signatures didn’t need to match. A judge is not the state legislature…

It’s pretty simple analysis…

The fact that the Biden campaign won’t even acknowledge that only “legal” votes should be counted is very telling.

If Trump loses – he loses and we all move on, but enough questions exist that need answering that we all are entitled to get to the bottom of this first…

Trump’s polling was dead-nuts on which is raising his confidence…

The states have control over their elections. You can’t have it both ways. The voting rights act was repealed and this allowed states more leeway on how to conduct elections. The Democrats outsmarted Trump and the Republicans here in 2020 by turning out more voters however possible. Covid or no covid vote by mail is here to stay. Go ahead and charge fraud and recount whatever you want. A few hundred votes at most will change. This election was a referendum on Trump.

Reading the news on this. It seems Trump’s team has begun to recognize reality but Trump’s two sons and Rudy are telling Trump he’s got a very good chance of winning and should keep fighting on. Everyone is talking about who will have the task of telling King Lear or Crazy King George the truth. Further complicating matters is that all these legal challenges cost money something the Trump campaign has little of. They’re trying to raise money but the hidden language on the donor forms says 50% of any donations will go to paying off existing campaign debt. And now we learn Mark Meadows has Covid-19 and has been hiding it for around 2-3 days.

This was always going to be the outcome no matter what really happened, even if there had been a blown out, you would have still seen this type of behavior, in reality he is a child and has always been so, his Dad/Mom really did a number on him. Any discussion on him is wasted energy.

The more important thing is that a larger and larger portion of America seems to believe that as a country we can bluff it/fake it till you make/positivity/etc. as a viable strategy going forward as a nation, can be traced back to Clinton getting elected in my lifetime in modern times. No one wants to hear the hard messages, I was watching a PBS documentary on the rise of Machine Learning/AI and they showcased/filming in China and you can tell as a nation they are fully committed both at a cultural/academic/economic/political level to becoming something more.

As a country/culture we need to come together and start the actual hard work of rebuilding the institutions and finding some true common ground we can work towards(and no it’s not going to be Biden, sadly). Not sure how the country got into this positivity/fake it to you make/etc grift but it’s infected almost all levels of US institutions.

I think we are about to see Trump at peak desperation. He is abandoned by the party, or those that know he lost and they are jumping ship like rats will, except for Graham of course, he is such a little girl when it comes to Daddy figures, first McCain now Trump, and when Trump took him publically to the woodshed he was at the point where he would do anything to get daddy to love him again.

He might be very dangerous in this phase, anything could happen, up to and including war with China. But it is after he finally realizes he is toast, totally lost and no allies, that is when the scorched earth will come out to play. You know I think given his behavior this last 24 hours and sure as hell is coming this might not be a bad time for the 25th amendment. He has as Tarow says gone insane.

I must say that that the results of the election were outstanding, beyond my wildest expectation. I feared a Blue wave, that would empower the left side of the Democrat party to push through their agenda. Even more, I feared a reelection of Trump, who would continue to divide and destroy the country. He nearly destroyed in four years; in another four years, we would be done as a country. Instead, we get the best of all worlds. The evil that is Trump is gone, yet the Republican party gained in the House, and may retain a majority in the Senate, depending on the two Georgia runoffs. (Can you even imagine the money that will be spent in those Georgia run-off races?!)

The result will be ideal. Biden has a long history of bi-partisanship, and he will be forced to work with both parties. It will take years to undo the damage Trump has done to the country. Yet, we can look forward with hope. After the departure of the evil that was Nixon, the country had a rebirth of civility. Carter and Ford were two of the nicest men who were ever President. Maybe after the departure of the evil that was Trump, who was far more evil than Nixon, both parties will have a similar turn to civility.

I hope you’re right.

My personal feeling is that this is the second worst outcome, with the worst outcome being an outright Trump win.

This election is really too close for my comfort level. Trump has been calling it rigged and a sham for months now. Even if after the dust settles Trump leaves peacefully, in the eyes of all of his supporters it is a stolen election.

Strong showings down ballot for Republicans are not a lesson against Trumpism, and they believe that Trump only lost because it was stolen somehow anyway.

Thus, they will double down and conclude they were not Trumpy enough. In 2024 we will see even more populist demagoguery from the GOP, and maybe even a Trump rerun if he somehow avoids prison.

Yes, you’re right.

Trump gets the label, but the big dumb angry mob was being fomented from the bottom up for years, maybe decades now, by right wing talk radio. It reached fever pitch under Obama, and gleefully reveled in Trump.

It is to the point where Alex Jones of all people wields outsize influence.

Part of Trump’s success is that he hooked into it, called in, and then started repeating their talking points as POTUS.

I don’t see that being rolled back in the next 4 years but I hope I’m wrong.

I understand your fears, and I have some of those, too. I hope that the Republicans learn from the down-party politicians doing better than Trump, and let Trumpism die. So…. in the end, we don’t disagree. You hope I am right to be optimistic, and I hope you are wrong to be pessimistic. Ultimately it may end up between the two extremes, but even then, that is better than where we are now, and also better, probably, than if the Republican party was totally crushed and we went back to a one-party system as we had in the 30’s and 40’s.

Carl_R

In my lifetime, the best governments have had Democrats as President and Republicans in control of at least one house of Congress. That forces them to work together, and eliminates the possibility of extreme behavior in either direction. Also, when the President is a Democrat, Republicans suddenly become fiscally prudent, and when the Democrats don’t control Congress, they too become fiscally prudent.

I hope you’re right too, but like Louis, I’m skeptical.

We will have an incremental improvement just based on the fact that the most visible politician in the world won’t be actively sowing divisiveness on a daily basis and because of that other mainstream R politicians won’t be forced into the difficult situation of choosing between reasonableness and supporting their “leader”.

And the split government does mean that, at some level, there will have to be some cooperation and compromise to get anything done. The R senators can’t exclusively try to sabotage every measure and simply play spoiler. But I suspect that will still mostly be their agenda.

And though Trump won’t be President, to think he’s out of the picture is naïve. I’m certain we can expect a constant stream of divisive political statements (mostly via tweet, but frequent appearances on Fox news as well). The media may be to pay a little less attention because he’s no longer President, but they won’t be able to come anywhere close to ignoring him.

And the populist movement isn’t going anywhere. The social media echo chambers they live in (not exclusive to the populists) will allow them to survive and even grow along with the conspiracies which seems to come out of them. And the R politicians will mostly have to voice support for the movement, certainly disavowing them isn’t an option for most of them.

An interesting litmus test will be a supreme court opening. I suspect we’ve seen the last justice ever confirmed by the opposite party and I suspect Biden will not be able to seat a justice regardless of when the opening occurs unless D regains the senate in 2022. With the very narrow margin, perhaps it might be possible to get 1 or 2 to flip and admit not confirming is dirty political pool (as Collins did in reverse), but I’m not sure. I don’t think it would be much different if the situation were reversed, though I’d put the odds a little higher as it seems the D’s at this point are a little more inclined to “play by the rules” but not by much.

Incidentally, as one who’s not a fan of either D or R, I would consider stacking the court by expansion extremely dirty pool and would never think it fair. But given the giant hypocrisy the R’s have committed (in my view the Barrett nomination was fair, but the rejection of Garland was a disgrace), I would support stacking as a justified political retaliation.

You know, all these people and their conspiracy theories could end up getting someone killed.

“The Philadelphia Police Department said in a statement Friday morning that it received information that people armed with guns were coming to the convention center in a silver Hummer truck. Inside the building, election workers have been tallying remaining ballots that may prove crucial in determining who wins the key state, which remains to be called for either presidential candidate.

According to the police statement, officers spotted a silver Hummer with no people inside at 10:20 p.m., and less than 10 minutes later, bike patrol officers spotted two men carrying guns. Neither had a valid Pennsylvania permit to carry the guns, police said, and they were arrested.”

“Photos captured near the convention center by Philadelphia Inquirer photographer Jessica Griffin showed a Hummer with a Virginia license plate as well as a hat inside bearing an insignia for the far-right conspiracy theory QAnon. The vehicle’s back window featured a decal with an abbreviation of a QAnon rallying cry: “Where we go one, we go all.”

WHAT IS A SPOILED CHILD?

A spoiled child is undisciplined, manipulative, and unpleasant to be with much of the time. He behaves in many of the following ways by the time he is 2 or 3 years old:

Doesn’t follow rules or cooperate with suggestions.
Doesn’t respond to “no,” “stop,” or other commands.
Protests everything.
Doesn’t know the difference between his needs and his wishes.
Insists on having his own way.
Makes unfair or excessive demands on others.
Doesn’t respect other people’s rights.
Tries to control people.
Has a low tolerance for frustration.
Frequently whines or throws tantrums.
Constantly complains about being bored.

Without changes in child-rearing, spoiled children run into trouble by the time they reach school age. Other children do not like them because they are too bossy and selfish. Adults do not like them because they are rude and make excessive demands. Eventually spoiled children become hard for even their parents to love because of their behavior. Because they don’t get along well with other children and adults, spoiled children eventually become unhappy. They may show decreased motivation and perseverance in their school work. There is also an association with increased risk-taking behaviors during adolescence, such as drug abuse. Overall, spoiling a child prepares a child poorly for life in the real world.

HOW DO I PREVENT MY CHILD FROM BECOMING SPOILED?

Provide age-appropriate limits and rules for your child.

Require cooperation with important rules.

Expect your child to cry.

Do not allow tantrums to work.

Don’t overlook discipline during quality time.

Don’t try to negotiate with young children.

Teach your child to cope with boredom.

Teach your child to wait.

Don’t rescue your child from normal life challenges.

Don’t overpraise your child.

Teach your child to respect the rights of adults.

Polls were massively wrong at about 10% in several states like Florida, Texas, Ohio, Iowa etc.
In Wisconsin Washington Post poll put Biden leading at +17% and it was really neck and neck and most likely the tight Biden win has been caused by election fraud by Democrat officials in Milwaukee with extremely odd voting totals with several wards in Milwaukee having over 90% voters going to the polls when even Obama got much less voters in those same wards.

These were suppression polls intended to get Republicans to lose hope and stay home and same for Independents and Democrats who supported Trump.

Everybody working for major polling organizations would be FIRED if there was any accountability and work product quality requirement for the polling industry.

Polls by larger polling organizations have been shown to be just tools to control and brainwash Americans for the most part.

Also Trafalgar got their polls mostly right and within the margin of error in all cases.

Polls don’t make you vote for anyone or vote at all. The polls are going to turn out to be right after all the mail in ballots get counted. Most states are still counting and will continue to do so for another week or so. This is what people like you don’t get understand.

The US under lying Bush and even with the ‘wonderful’ black messiah, created havoc in the Middle East, opening the floodgates with millions of refugees heading for Europe …..so yes ‘phil from flanders’ can and should have an opinion about the US and its crazy, even outrageous, policies ! Btw , if you bother to check you ll discover that Flanders is a VERY prosperous region !

Turkey is a SAFE country so everyone was SAFE already after they reached Turkey so all movement from then on was motivated by Merkel’s invitation and promise that Germany has NO LIMIT on how many asylum seekers Germany takes and Merkel’s insistence that borders MUST be kept open enabled people to come.

EVERYONE could have been stopped by Greece on their land border with Turkey in 2015 or given a ride back to Turkey by Greek Coast Guard in 2015 or just returned on the Turkish side of the border in the Greek-Turkey land border instead of bringing them to Greece and then ferrying them without registration to Greek mainland and allowing them to move freely from Greece until they reached Germany and Sweden and UK and other welfare paying European countries that give free apartment and generous welfare benefits like Belgium does too.

Merkel is the most incompetent idiot to ever lead EU and yet she is still the one calling what policies EU takes.

FRAUD ? IMPOSSIBLE? WHY? Removing Trump has been a four years saga, everybody knows that Deep State, yes even republicans, wanted Trump out of the way, that weird post election day counting can easily be abused and manipulated as seen fit(getting rid of Trump). Gullible, if you think it s impossible !

Again, please post evidence to support your supposition. The fact is that the BBC’s charter requires it to provide unbiased reporting. This leads to the aggrieved side of any article ranting against the posting – whether they be conservative, liberal, democratic, communist etc. The fact that they are unbiased makes them a lightning rod for conspiracy theorists.

@wmjack — you starting to see Stalin in your dreams now? Are you calling the poll workers “Stalin”? Did you know that there are counters and watchers from both parties and with no party affiliation? How does that work–which one of the thousands working on the count is the head “Stalin” calling the shots?

Is there a vast conspiracy of Democrats, Republicans and Independents who want Trump out at any cost?

Did you know Stalin is almost a god in your dear Russia now?

Vote count observers were locked out or kept so far they could not see a thing at 25 feet in Philadelphia and when a judge ordered observers to be allowed within 6 feet the Democrat officials appealed that decision to a higher court and then did NOT honor the order of a judge and claimed they needed several days to review it (and keep counting) and when some observers were finally allowed in the Democrat officials had moved tabulators all the way to the back and observers were maybe within 6 feet of the FIRST counting tables with much longer distances for the rest so Philadelphia is making a mockery of elections and rule of law.
There is still NO access to all the rooms.

In Michigan and Wisconsin vote count observers were told to go home because counting had stopped and then there were 138-200k vote dumps for Joe Biden and only Joe Biden in the counting at 3-5 AM.
Also vote count observers in Milwaukee have been prevented from doing their jobs in many other ways and in Detroit vote count observers have been REMOVED from the counting place with Democrat officials and volunteers wearing Joe Biden 2020 masks cheering and clapping while observers were removed.

This is a total mockery of Elections and Democracy by Democrats.

If one needs to manufacture lots of fake votes quickly with limited number of corrupt people the best way is to just fill the choice for president and push the ballot to be counted in the middle of the night between 3-5 AM like happened in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania all which reported huge 150k-200k vote count additions for Joe Biden and Joe Biden alone between 3-5 AM the first night of counting.

Also I guess the Democrats hoped that Republican Party would stay silent about the stealing of the election when only Trump was targeted.

This phenomenon with hundreds of thousands of ballots only voting for Joe Biden and leaving the rest of the ballot blank only happened in the swing states.

In Georgia they found 25k additional votes to count at 6 AM one day.
There is election fraud and vote counting fraud going on in Georgia too.

Those who voted for Jo Jorgensen in Georgia, Congratulations for getting Joe Biden elected if the fraud by Democrats can not be stopped through the courts and through a recount and verification of voters.
How many dead people voted? ( like the guy who died in 1984 but voted in 2020 in Michigan and like the 119 and 120 year old women who voted in 2020 in Michigan)

I’m so bloody tired of this type of article, it’s of no value to anybody (maybe to Mish, I suppose). I know Mish won’t care, but honestly this page has gone to he’ll ever since moving on from the (much better) GEA days. I’m am not a Trump or Biden supporter, I’m not in the US, have no vote or horse in your race. Long gone are the quality articles like the old Fed Corollary Principles. It’s gotten even worse since moving to The Street, just an endless parade of basically useless articles that don’t add any value. I won’t talk about the comment section, it’s absolute rubbish. I get it….Trump is a buffoon, that’s nothing new, surprising, interesting, or particularly useful. How many articles do we need to explain how 2+2=4? Mish can say “I told you so” all he likes. IMO this type of writing is not worth reading. Hopefully Mish, and many others to be honest, can put away the Trump fixation once this election is finally, mercifully over. Trump is finally gone, it seems. Do better, you’re more than capable.

Understand the sentiment.

However, I felt the election was important and the need to get rid of Trump even if it cost me traffic and dollars, and it did.

People like you left. Too bad for my pocketbook. Ironically, I was accused of doing this for the money.

Scott Adams seeks to change public opinion and so do I, about lots of things: Free market, no wars, small government.

If I changed a few thousand or even a few hundred votes it was worth it.

But I am putting politics aside for a while. Eventually I will be bashing Biden. If he makes a deal with Iraq, I will praise that.

But in general I don’t like either major party.

If you’re tired of hearing about this election when you’re not in the US, imagine how it is for Americans. It’s difficult to talk about anything else, even for those of us who frequently bash the two party system.

I, for one, look forward to bashing Biden and his merry band of Goldmanites instead of Trump and his Goldmanites. At least nobody will claim Biden is playing 4D chess as he screws us over!
