Trump’s Oklahoma Rally was an Enormous Half-Empty Flop

“It’s amazing. No one’s ever heard of numbers like this,” said Trump who was bragging about a million people requesting tickets to see him Oklahoma.

Out of an alleged million fans, about 9,000 actually turned up.

Overflow Area

The arena was supposed to be filled to the brim so they created an overflow area.

Outdoor Remarks Cancelled

Why?

No one showed up outside.

Oklahoma Covid-19 Spike

To add insult to insult, Tulsa World reports Oklahoma Numbers Continue to Spike.

Oklahoma saw a 5.1% jump in the number of COVID-19 cases Thursday, with 450 new cases and two additional deaths.

Thursday’s numbers, which include the highest daily count since the pandemic began, leaves the state with 9,354 cases overall, with more than 1,100 of those coming since Sunday.

The Hill comments

Over just the past week, cases have increased by about 90 percent.
Testing in Oklahoma has also remained relatively flat, so the increase in cases is not due to an increase in testing, despite arguments being made by Vice President Pence and other officials.

Tulsa County has the highest number of cases in the state. The director of the Tulsa Health Department urged the Trump campaign on multiple occasions to reschedule the rally.

Trump Admits He Directed Officials to Find Fewer Cases

Trump tells Oklahoma rally he directed officials to slow virus testing to find fewer cases

At his rally in Tulsa on Saturday, President Trump called coronavirus testing “a double-edged sword” and said he asked officials to conduct fewer coronavirus tests to keep case numbers down. After claiming the United States has tested 25 million people, Trump said: “When you do testing to that extent, you’re going to find more people, you’re going to find more cases. So I said to my people, ‘Slow the testing down, please!’ ”

Meanwhile, Six members of Trump’s campaign advance team for his Tulsa rally tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to a statement from the president’s campaign. “Quarantine procedures” were implemented immediately, the statement added.

One Mask Seen

Might I suggest purposely suppressing tests so you can hold a big rally is more than a bit questionable?

Why is anyone listening to the medical doctors that have been overwhelmingly wrong on this issue? Dr. Fraudci has been receiving millions of dollars from US taxpayers since 1984 for the AIDS vaccine, where is it? Dr. Fraudci approved hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus in 2005, why did he say it wouldn’t work now when it has been the most effective in combination with other therapies? Medical misdiagnoses kill 250,000 people per year in the USA. Why do you listen to them?

My two bits about all this brouhaha!

(1) Sure Trump was down, but then it’s late and he’s tired
(2) Fox news are traitors to Trump — Wallace had the temerity to question the attendance
(3) Real Trump lovers already know that the low attendance was caused by all the Antifafa demonstrators that blocked access to the site
(4) Trump’s team has already said that this was the best-attended rally and that the images were taken hours before Trump spoke…anyway, Biden is old

Democrats will call this the end of Trump. Sure it’s bad but it’s bad for Trump organizers — resignations and firing are certain to follow.

It’s also 153 days before election day. Senate/Justice department can do a lot of damage before then.

I have a suggestion Trump wants the post office to stop operating before the end of September that way people will not be able to mail in their ballots…

A real stable genius!

The Democrats have really screwed the pooch so far as their strategy… They have given full support to BLM and all the riots and looting alienating much of moderate America including moderate Democrats and all moderate Independents. They are appalled at the violence and lawlessness of the radical left. Now to offset that, as elections grow nearer, they will have to backtrack on their support, or risk losing their votes, which will alienate the blacks and make them look as two faced as they really are. What ever they do now they are screwed….

Democrats appear to suffering the same sort of cognitive disconnection as they did in 2016. They continue to discount Trump, without understanding were his strength is. He gave an excellent speech, and energized his base as they realized that he will absolutely crush Biden in any kind of debate. He is a masterful campaigner, and will use the Democrats alliance with BLM and the rioters to show the American people that the Democrats support unlawfulness, riots, looting, graffiti, defending police, and will implement the same kind of policies on the Federal level we see creating havoc and chaos in the Democratic cities and states. Even the liberals are now fleeing their own liberal cities. The Democrats have undermined themselves by aligning themselves with the radical left and they will pay dearly for that mistake come November.

Ha Ha Ha! Mish, your TDS going into overdrive.

Of course you conveniently overlook – or maybe your news sources are so biased you are unaware of – the lack of crowd control by the pusillanimous PD (like nearly all PD’s it seems nationwide) such that the metal screeners needed for entry (because there are many radicals out there threatening violence etc.) got pushed away. So thousands were left outside. If you happened to see the photos from the morning – many hours before the event – there were more than enough to fill that hall.

So once again TDS’ers love to heap insult on the Trumpsters whilst ignoring the violence they espouse.

Frankly: Shame on you for such biased, inaccurate and toxic coverage.

Of course, the one hole in your argument is the lack of understanding on your part that the metal detectors are needed because the die-hard right wingers do love them their guns. That’s not really a leftie thing, at all.

But if you look at ALL the pictures, you are actually and factually wrong. Further, most of the people waiting outside were the ones that went inside when the doors opened, I’m sure. That’s how events work, even up here in Canada when it’s -30c outside, we get to line up until they open the doors just a little while ahead of the event. (We can take it though, we’re hardy!)

There is also one contradiction in your comment too. All Trumpers have been telling us that the heavy crowd control was needed on these left-wing protests… so why does a right-wing crowd, waiting to see their president, need crowd control at all? Just curious.

BaronAsh
BaronAsh

I guess you didn’t see some of the photos and videos of BLM groups harassing and threatening Trump supporters both before and after.
And you didn’t see pictures of the blocked gates and the hundreds or thousands of people unable to get in.
And you haven’t read, no doubt, that the online and cable viewing audience was well over 10 million.
And you didn’t see the photos of literally masses of people already in place in the morning.
Since most MSM refuses to show the aggressive tactics of left wing organised mobs, you can insist if you like that only Trump supporters were there, but doesn’t make it so.

If I had to guess, it looks like:
Yes, they got TikTok punked, but there were still way more than 19,000 there.
But the BLM-ers were far too rude and aggressive for older people and those with children. They left.
The police wilted – as all do it seems except Federal agents in DC district – and so were unable to maintain proper crowd control including steady entry to the hall.

In terms of the spin wars, the Trump campaign took a hit. But they are used to it. Just about anything they do is always spun in the most negative light possible. The only way his political opponents can win is by insulting and vilifying him non-stop to depress support numbers by shaming people into denying support. It’s been very effective for several years now; indeed most people who hate Trump really believe most of the false talking points they’ve been spoonfed. Information war indeed!

However, several big things were effected:
in large numbers and for the first time since March, Trump supporters and not racist thugs and hypocritical SJW outrage junkies gathered in large numbers, most without masks. The covid panic is now beginning to be over.
Trump is beginning to pivot his campaign and will do so more. Basically he’s not running against Biden – who truly isn’t there – but against organised anti-republican collectivist/socialist/marxist anarchists etc. He articulated it thusly: Biden is a captured puppet of the extreme left wing which dominates the Democrat Party and threatens to undermine our entire representative Republic. (paraphrasing!).

The more the organised left resorts to violence and vandalising, the more they will make Trump’s case. The Dems have painted themselves into an extremist, anti peace, anti small business, anti non-racist (they hate whites) position. The only two ways they can win are:

  1. Tear down the republic so that no election happens, or Trump resigns somehow beforehand – the former won’t happen, the latter might, though cannot see why now
  2. Cheat with mail-in ballots. Unlikely this will be permitted since Federales haven’t shown their hand yet.

Personally, I thought the rally – apart from the over-hyped concern about turnout numbers – was same-old same-old. No real platform. No real answer to what’s happening. But it’s early days and he has demonstrated extraordinary abilities to learn and change quickly, and also great resilience and stamina. So they have to get him to resign before November somehow – maybe behind-the-scenes threats to his family – or cheat.

It’s funny listening to people who support Trump call others a fraud.

  1. Trump promises to protect the Second Amendment. Calls for red flag gun laws, gets his Obama pen out and bans a gun accessory by executive fiat, and works with Diane Feinstein on FIX NICs.

  2. Trump tweets out against Obama era QE warning it will lead to inflation only to when he gets in office beg the Federal Reserve to keep printing money to prop up the economy.

  3. Promises to get the national debt paid off only to acquire nearly 2/3 of Obama’s total debt creation in 3.5 years.

  4. Trump promises to fight socialism only to deliver bailouts and stimulus that make Obama look like a fiscal conservative while taking a page out of Bernie Sanders playbook and handing out free redistribution of wealth checks to selected Americans. Trump is now calling for government funded vacations for all Americans up to $4000…

You know if you want to talk about frauds…

To keep this fair and balanced here’s Fox saying trump is “sparring” with the ebil demoncrabs over the crowd size, while showing some carefully cropped footage of the idiot gallery:

Some of those people will be dead of covid by the end of July. And for what? To cheer a president that think’s he’s being manly by quaffing a tumbler of water and casting it down wantonly? Does that make their wimmin folk’s cellulite quiver?

His attempts at being tough make me think he once browsed this for 10 minutes in a waiting room somewhere and forgot most of what he saw:

The fact is, trump is a Dude, and thinks the world is his Dude Ranch, and that he can have his cowboy gang beat up anybody that he doesn’t like.

It’s weird… I started out horrified at him becoming president, and now it just keeps getting progressively more hilarious. Usually works the other way, things start out funny and progress to “oh s**t”.

Just being realistic. The Jihadis may not be all that in absolute terms. But at least they have some basic competencies left. Above-replacement-rate procreation being a fairly fundamental one. Adherence to what is at least a potentially valid rule of law, as opposed to millions of pages on utterly useless arbitrariness, being another. And they have the sense to treat their governments with all the respect governments are due; head-off-cutting and all.

“We” have none of that by now. We used to do it better, at least per my estimation, than any Jihadi. But that was 150 years ago. Nothing ending the Fed with Gold at $20/oz, ending all activity taxes, getting rid of arbitrary ambulance chaser shakedowns, and hard-defaulting on all Federal, state and local debt as of 1pm today couldn’t fix quite nicely. But absent Americans growing up sufficiently to figure out even such trivial basics, as opposed to instead clinging to their ever stringer indoctrination and childish worship of arbitrary Dear Leaders ever more vehemently, things don’t look too promising. So, Jihadis it will be. And while they may, again, hardly be all that, at least they are an improvement on what we currently have. Devoid of good options, least of evils is all that’s left.

The Republican Party is self destructing. Let’s see how long it takes for the party elite to realize they have no chance of winning in November with Trump as their leader. They aren’t the smartest tools in the shed so it could take a while for the penny to drop. The problem is that it is probably too late to change leadership unless they force Trump to quietly stand down – perhaps for medical reasons? I am sure they have the goods to strong arm him. The question is do they have the smarts and the intestinal fortitude to do so.

Your right the Republican Party is on a train to self destruction, unfortunately the Democrat Party is on a rocket ship to self destruction. Between Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, Atlanta they’re all trying to see who can destroy themselves and history first. Anyone that thinks that the Republicans have a corner on the self destruction market needs to remove the plank from their eye first. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the “TikTok Kids” that AOC and everyone is applauding here are either to young or won’t show up to vote in November. Most of these kids haven’t made it out of Mom & Dad’s basement yet let alone have the gumption to “Get out the Vote”

You can but hope although polls would seem to indicate Trump is toast. His current strategy will not provide the comeback he needs. And what worked for him four years ago will not work now. Everyone knows that is not much more than bluster and lies.

I agree. I think the standard rally format that worked last time will prove a bit of a dud this time. He is not rising to the occasion which is a nation on the verge of anarchy and civil war. If they allow the Dems to win using these crude bully tactics which tacitly endorse violence and mob rule, the country will degrade rapidly, not to mention the silent majority in the middle will simply not accept such authority, which usually they swallow hard but find a way to do. No good will come of any of this.

He has to appeal to the reasonable common sense middle and offer a path through all this to bedrock sanity and decency. If he keeps stoking the fires of partisan differences, whether he wins or loses, the country will continue on its divisive path. He opponents will not respect his victory, just like they denied the last one, but now they will be emboldened to inflame the country more.

It’s looking to me like he doesn’t have what it takes to rise above all this. To be fair, nobody else in the political elites comes anywhere close to having that ability either. The Resistance is willing to tear the country down to get their way. They might just succeed.

At which point, Trump is going to look mighty good. He actually wants the country, and all her citizens, to prosper and thrive. TDS’ers overlook that simple point far too often.

Oh well. We’ll see. But looks like a hot, nasty summer, probably with many false flag murders to inflame both sides further. For his sake, I hope he does drop out. The country needs to sort itself out without the distorted diversion of TDS over-personalisation of dynamics which have been festering in the body politic for a very long time. Does Middle America have enough gumption to prevent a communitarian-socialist-totalitarian new world order takeover? Or are they going to surrender to the mob and then we’ll have 1920 Russia all over again….

It seems that those who despise Trump are of the belief that if they just get rid of him using riots, mayhem, violence and deceit to do so, that the country will go back to some sort of good-old-Joe-Biden normal, and everything will be ok, the toothpaste of mob rule will all go back in the tube and Middle America will breath a sigh of relief along with all the racist victim-obsessed radicals now ruling the roost.

Dream on!

No I’m not. At all. I see no evidence whatsoever that he wants anything other than success for American citizens. You may disagree with how he goes about it, but clearly he wants things to work out well.

Whether or not some monkey “wants” his shoes tied is pretty irrelevant; when he doesn’t posses even the remotest understanding of how to go about achieving something as complimecated as tying shoelaces.

Well, to begin with, he could stop being such a prolific liar so we could maybe see a tiny glimpse of this, except he just can’t help himself. Lying is breathing to him. Secondly, the could stop lining his own and his kids pockets off the American people so we could believe his morality is in the right place and that he isn’t just a bully, thug and crime boss. Thirdly, he could stop with all the name calling and shaming just as little Jimmy or Beth learn to stop doing that starting in kindergarten. It makes him look like an immature, nasty fool. Lastly, he could make his government a whole lot more transparent (if he has nothing to hide, he would have) so people could at least begin to believe what you said.

He’s incapable of any of this.

Oh yeah, two more things: he could stop surrounding himself with so many crooked, lying friends, and he could build one – just one – coherent foreign affairs policy and stick with it so he stops blindsiding all the experts that advise him, all because he thinks that he’s more knowledgeable about everything than even people who’ve spent their lifetime micro-focused on on field.

At his he’ll always fall back on his basic behaviour, so there’s zero chance that even one of these things will ever happen, let alone all of them, which is what it would take for the people to believe that he has their best interest at heart. He doesn’t, plain and simple. He has Donald Trump’s best interests in mind way before anyone else’s.

No – he wants whatever is good for him alone. This is quite obvious and it’s the ‘type 2’ TDS that doesn’t recognize it.

Now, if what Trump wants is good for the country = a nice happenstance. And there are instances of this (no matter what the ‘type 1’ TDS’ers say). However, no one should be fooled into thinking that there was thought of the rest of the country that went into decisions that happened to help.

Lying? LOL. The democrats are the pary of the KKK, segregation, Jim Crow laws, anti Civil Rights, etc. You drank the democrat kool aid that said that the Democrats now support civil rights? LOL. MLK was a republican, Abraham Lincoln was a republican. Malcolm X told black people a couple of days before he was executed that if black people vote for a Democrat, they are voting against themselves. Why is it that democrat cities have the highest crime rates and black on black crimes? Why wasn’t there a protest when 26 black people were killed in Chicago in 1 day a couple of days ago? Because democrats are liars and they only talk about these issues right before the election. Then they do nothing for the next 4 years. Why didn’t Obama fix the “racial inequality in policing” when he was in office 8 years? Why did he call looters in Ferguson “thugs” an no one said anything? Because y’all are hypocrites!

Oklahoma saw a 5.1% jump in the number of COVID-19 cases Thursday.
So What!!
What was the average of these victims 25. What counts is hospitalizations which are down. Young people do not go to the hospital.

So what? Although you are correct that few young people wind up in the hospital, they interact with people who do. More than half of Americans live in a household containing at least one member at heightened risk.

You say all this, right up until it’s your grandmother or some such that dies in the hospital, completely alone (how sad is that) because some of those young people that take care of older people didn’t care or take precautions, as per your (il)logic. Where there are more cases, there are more deaths, period. How hard is that to figure out?

Hospitalizations are down!! I am 81 years old. If we ever have a family gettogether the young people ware masks and social distance. This of course takes a little bit of intelligence which I guess is in short supply out there!

Anecdotal, but I’ve noticed a yuuge drop in Trump support from family, friends and acquaintances. No actual anti-Trump comments, but a drop in comments in his favor. I think some folks who fear the coronavirus don’t appreciate the decision to reopen the economy so quickly, and I think the horrific videos of Floyd’s death, and the lack of presidential leadership in overcoming racism has some not wanting to be associated with “those people (unapologetic racists)”.

Still lots of support from the true believers, but this could be apocalyptic for Republicans in November. Trump needs something to fall his way.

I’ve noticed something talking to people too, sort of a disheartened tone that reminds me of the end of the GWB years. They’re still red teamers but more subdued, not nearly as enthusiastic as they were just six months ago.

Around here and elsewhere online I hardly see pro-Trump comments, just anti-blue ones. It’s tough to sustain a movement on a negative, rather than actually being FOR something. By now they seem to know that the Fed is running the country and that 4D chess doesn’t exist. Without anything economic to rally around they’re reduced to griping about random stuff they don’t like, which is kind of sad.

Here are the positives: 1) First Step Act that helps non-violent offenders (minorities disproportionately affected) be released from prison by the law created by Biden and signed by Clinton; 2) Executive Order Blocking the Property of Persons Involved in Serious Human Rights Abuse or Corruption – this is why Hillary and Obama are freaking out; 3) Why didn’t Obama fix “racial inequality” in his 8 years of office?; 4) Trump was the only person to speak to the attorney of Epstein’s accuser after he threw Epstein out of Mar A Lago; 5) Trump assisted Jesse Jackson’s presidential aspirations; 6) Trump assisted my black business owners with loans in the nineties when the banks wouldn’t lend to them; 7) why don’t democrats remember how democrats loved Trump before he campaigned for president????? The list can go on and on

What does any of that have to do with anything? The country is an economic basket case due to the Fed, and neither the blue nor the red team can possibly fix it, even if they wanted to.

Responding to a bunch of old threads pointing out trivialities makes you look oddly desperate.

Well, I was not going to vote this year as I was irritated by Trump’s foreign policy of strangling Venezuala and Syria. I don’t blame the Covid reaction to Trump. Our country is better at prepping for war than infrastructure, Covid, etc. Doesn’t make a difference who is in office. This rioting, destruction of statues and other barbarism changed my mind. You have to be a blind idiot to vote for the Democrat’s instead of Trump. The Republicans in Congresss are for the most part worthless worms except the worm does have some value for fishing so they have more worth than Democrats and Republicans. American’s are living in a daze. You have been brainwashed by social media and news that somehow Trump being ejected will bring things to normal. There never is a normal. People disagree on things, bad things happen sometimes and the worst part is that the culprits that commit crimes or make bad choices in life are not confronted in American society, news media or politicians. Today, I read that blacks in Minneapolis cannot buy food. Does ANYONE ask why they burned their city down which lead to this? Antifa has taken over a portion of an American city and people are getting killed, raped and extorted, but no one is talking about it except Trump! I gonna tell you something and it will go in one ear and out the other. Yugoslavia had a civil war in the 1980’s and 90’s. The country split up into its respective states. I know people that fought there during this time. One guy in particular said you don’t realize how people can become like animals. I asked him why he didn’t leave? He laughed and said that the powers for each state would not let you leave-you had to go fight or sit in a refugee camp. He told me that the wealthy were long gone when things started going awry. You will not be in New Zealand with the wealthy or where ever they have their bug out homes. You will be here suffering with your family. If you want this, then vote for Biden. I want a country where there is law and order, jobs for people to work and there should be no shame in what job you do, and an environment where people can discuss topics without destroying our history and behaving like the Khmer Rouge.

Very good comment.
The country is dividing more than usual this election cycle, and strangely that might be a good thing at this juncture. In terms of the specific criteria you mentioned (fear of virus etc.), much of the divide can be described thusly:

those who tend to believe the main narratives the media push and discuss
vs
those who tend not to put much credence in them.

The interesting thing is that the former are far more suggestible than the latter and thus can change their minds more easily. As people gradually get used to coming out of their caves and fears of the virus recede, so will their outlook change. If the left continues to indulge in an orgy of hatred, resentment, destruction and civil unrest, more of them will develop sufficient gumption to admit, first to themselves and then to others, that they don’t like that sort of thing.

So there are several months to go for things to shake out. Ultimately, the country has a choice to make and an opportunity to express it. Some on this Board think Trump wants to cancel the election. I think the case can equally be made that the Dems want the same unless they can be sure of fixing the vote somehow. Clearly they are into playing dirty now – witness Antifa & BLM both of whom get funding from and funnel funds into the DNC and both of whom publicy espouse lawlessness and violence.

If the country wants to kowtow to such an approach, they will vote for it.
If they don’t, they will vote against. But once fear of the virus recedes, so will respect for the media along with instantly going along with all the other crap which will be spewed forth from them between now and November. Crap like how people didn’t show up for the rally last night – plainly not true.
