An economically illiterate trump warns the markets.
For starters, Trump has never been Mr. Nice Guy.
He is a crass, arrogant, economically-illiterate rapist and pedophile-protecting narcissist fool, and also the world’s biggest liar.
Those lovely qualities aside, let’s discuss his latest shambles of a plan.
Prepare for Extended Blockade of Iran
The Wall Street Journal reports Trump Tells Aides to Prepare for Extended Blockade of Iran
President Trump has instructed aides to prepare for an extended blockade of Iran, U.S. officials said, targeting the regime’s coffers in a high-risk bid to compel a nuclear capitulation Tehran has long refused.
In recent meetings, including a Monday discussion in the Situation Room, Trump opted to continue squeezing Iran’s economy and oil exports by preventing shipping to and from its ports. He assessed that his other options—resume bombing or walk away from the conflict—carried more risk than maintaining the blockade, officials said.
Yet continuing the blockade also prolongs a conflict that has driven up gas prices, hurt Trump’s poll numbers and further darkened Republicans’ prospects in the midterm elections. It has also caused the lowest number of transits through the Strait of Hormuz since the war began.
Since ending the major bombing campaign in an April 7 cease-fire, Trump has repeatedly walked back from escalating the conflict, opening space for diplomacy after earlier threatening to destroy the entirety of Iranian civilization. But he still wants to tighten the grip on the regime until it caves to his key demand: dismantling all of Iran’s nuclear work. On Monday, Trump told aides that Iran’s three-step offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and save nuclear talks for the final phase proved Tehran wasn’t negotiating in good faith, The Wall Street Journal reported.
For now, Trump is comfortable with an indefinite blockade, which he wrote Tuesday on Truth Social is pushing Iran toward a “State of Collapse.” A senior U.S. official said the blockade is demonstrably crushing Iran’s economy—it is straining to store its unsold oil—and sparked fresh outreach by the regime to Washington.
Not Negotiating in Good Faith
It’s quite the hoot to proclaim Iran is not negotiating in good faith when you destroy working deals and walk out of negotiations to launch a stupid war.
Trump no longer negotiates, he makes one-sided demands. Then he doesn’t even honor them as our allies Mexico and Canada have found out.
Crushing the Global Economy
It’s true that Trump is crushing Iran’s economy.
However, to varying degrees Trump is crushing the economies of he oil producers, Asian countries other than China and Japan, US farmers, US importers, and other nations to various degrees.
As a whole (US farmers and importers excluded), the US, China, and Japan are less damaged than other nations, and Iran more damaged than other Mideast oil producers.
Trump sees this as winning. I see it as global losses, some of which are not easily repaired.
AAA Fuel Prices

The price of regular gasoline is up 20 cents from a week ago and $1.07 from a year ago.
Diesel is down two cents from a week ago but up a whopping $1.91 from a year ago.
About 30% of the world’s nitrogen fertilizer supply travels through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked because of the war in Iran.
A farm bureau survey shows nearly six in 10 farmers report worsening finances, reflecting rising fertilizer and fuel costs during spring planting and underscoring the urgent need for immediate economic assistance to keep farms gates open.
If the blockade goes on another two weeks, gasoline prices will likely hit a new record high.
Bond Yield Creeping Up
After ignoring all of the stock market and oil market gyrations and Trump’s market manipulations for weeks, bond yields have gotten the message that Trump may be as stupid as he sounds.
Yield on the 30-year bond is up again today by 4 basis points to 4.98 percent. I will take a deeper dive into yields later today after the FOMC meeting.
It’s 100% the Fed will stand pat today. This is Powell’s last meeting as Fed chair, but I expect him to stay on, causing another battle with Trump.
Yesterday, I noted National Gasoline Prices Hit the Highest Level Since Start of War in Iran
Today, the price of regular gasoline is up another 5.3 cents.

US Inventory changes over the last week
Commercial Oil Inventories: down 6.2 million barrels
SPR Oil: down 7.6 mb
Gasoline: down 6.1 mb
Distillates: down 4.5 mb
Weekly Oil Exports in mb
March 3.4, 4.9, 3.3, 3.5
April 4.1, 5.2, 4.8, 6.4
Is Venezuela affecting these export numbers, or are they only oil domestically sourced?
Despite Trump’s belligerent bravado, I believe he really wants to walk away from cascading disaster he has wrought in the Middle East.
If Trump were smart, he would use the upcoming vote in Congress to either stop or continue his Iran war. He is at the 60 day limit in the War Powers Law.
Democrats will probably vote in unison against continuing. If he can convince just a few Republican sycophants to vote with them, Trump can walk away and shift the blame for the ensuing chaotic defeat onto the Democratic party, saying they were cowards who tied his hands right when he was on the verge of total victory.
Of course Trump is not smart, and Mr. Netanyahoo, holding the Epstein videos, would probably not agree, but one can dream.
Iran is squeezed:if they can’t export oil, they have to stop drilling, which would destroy the installations.
The Netanyahu-Trump Iran war of purposeless aggression will be retrospectively considered by most as the trigger for one of the greatest global stock market (and crypto and gold) crashes and greatest recessions and likely global famines in recorded history. I am surprised that the DOW is not down 10,000 points.

Whether Trump is a rapist depends on your definition of rape. I suspect that if Trump is a rapist, most of us are.
He may be crass and arrogant, but a lot of successful men are.
A lot of successful men look as if they are economically illiterate, too. I suspect that, although they may not be able to talk the talk, they probably have enough basic common sense for practical purposes. A lot of businessmen are like that, too, or they were when I was younger.
I haven’t heard of his protecting any pedophiles. A lot of fuss is being made about young hookers hired by Epstein. As I understand it, Trump actually stopped Epstein from hiring potential young hookers at his resort.
He probably has a big ego. I’m not sure you can call that narcissism. He doesn’t look like a fool to me, just someone who is outside the sick norms of modern Western society.
I have never been much of a negotiator, but I gather that negotiators tend to lie a bit. Whether he has a plan or not is something that we shall only be able to figure out afterwards. In military matters, as in negotiations, part of the job may be keeping the enemy (and everyone else) from seeing your plan.
He is the modern poster boy for narcissism. Look up the DSM5 and his picture should be included for current examples. Throw in many of the world’s authoritarian leaders. Being narcissistic has nothing to do with being a fool, but he both. This puts us at a disadvantage when dealing with the world’s authoritarians who aren’t fools.

Mr Nice Guy double-tapped an Iranian little girls’ school, incinerating 168 people

Mr Nice Guy is destroying the global economy
Mr Nice Guy threatened to end Iranian civilization forever
I certainly hope there is no more Mr Nice Guy
Well played, sir!
But then he’s only the current acting front man.
Not the one making the decisions. As now abundantly clear to absolutely everyone.
His handler(s) and financiers are the ones responsible for all this.
This, to me, is a really interesting proposition. With a lot of the presidents, it is hard to believe that they are the ones really making the decisions. My impression with Trump in his first term was that he wanted to be the one making the decisions, and the usual suspects didn’t like it. I think it was almost exactly the same with Dick Nixon in my young days.
I am inclined to think that with most of them, there is some sort of committee supervising them. Then, too, there are things like Executive Support Systems or Decision Support Systems. I learned a little about them at university before they discovered that I wasn’t the sort of person who should be allowed to know about things like that. As I see it, those sorts of systems could very easily be used to make a simple person think he was somehow in charge, while he was being manipulated by the people who managed the paper flow.
As I recall it, George Bush II didn’t have any idea what to do when the first news of the 9-11 events was brought to him, and went on talking to some kids he was with. I have always assumed that that atrocity was directed by the U.S. Government, and my interpretation of Bush’s behavior was that he hadn’t been told. He wasn’t the sort of person that you could allow into a secret like that. So, with no instructions, he didn’t know what to do.
I understand that Obama also suddenly became much less eloquent when he didn’t have a teleprompter to read from.
If you read about the history of royal families, they are apt to be founded by a soldier who really does make his own decisions. Later generations are apt to fall under the influence of their advisers, and sometimes to lose power completely to them. That happened to the Merovingians in France and to the Japanese emperor. By what I have read, it also happened pretty much to the Bourbons in latter-day France. A great deal of the significant history of France in that day is usually attributed to two very powerful ministers, Cardinal Richelieu and Cardinal Mazarin, who ruled while Bourbon kings reigned.
I think any political system tends to develop barnacles as it moves along. I see no reason that this should not have happened to the U.S. system, which has its public focus in the institution of the presidency.

The damage to the global economy is negligible compared to what would have happened had Iran been able to go on its merry way,
Really! They have been going their merry way for 1000’s of years. They made a deal with Obama and all evidence says they were keeping it. Meanwhile the damage to the global economy is not even over yet so how do you know which is worse?
BTW global means the whole world not just you.
Trump while still high on his victory with Venezuela decided to trust Nutandyahoo and go out for weekend of fun and kill us some ragheads and they got the surprise of their lives! Trump is still trying to play tough guy while desperately looking for an off ramp. He should stick to writing books on making deals because he is obviously not good at making deals with real people.
Basically if he can’t bully them he TACOs. Genius strategy!! And sooo effective.
Yep. So easy to get into a war. So difficult to extract from one and try to save face. Vietnam, Afghanistan, & Iran come to mind.
You have to explain what actually has changed? What will stop them from continuing on their merry way? Most likely, the resolve to continue on their merry way has increased substantially.
They are significantly less merry now.
At this point, I wouldn’t care a bit if Iran absolutely glassed Israel. The Israelis have turned into blood thirsty monsters.
Religous zealots bent on maximum destruction prepared to take the world down with them in their “greater Israel” hallucination. NWO master race with Jerusalem as capital. Lets see how this pans out. Majority of Jews strictly against this plan and the chaos & sorrow it is already now causing on a global scale, but they’re not being asked nor are we.
The extreme paranoia in Tel Aviv is off the charts insane.
The attitude toward all of their neighbors seems to be ‘kill them now before the day comes they eventually kill us’.
.. and you probably can’t even blame them for their fear, but it’s all self-inflicted. Balfour at the origin of this all.
So why did equities take a dump when Trump and Israel made war on Iran?
No more Mr. Nice Guy

They say he’s sick, he’s obscene
Damn, I didn’t see you beat me to it!
It was abundantly obvious that any talk of a ceasefire was a ruse to give the US time to reload and take another shot.
Iran was foolish to have let up on the pressure. The Americans and Israelis understand only force, a lead pipe to the face, over and over again.
They got time to reload too.
The Fed should hike the Federal Funds rate a quarter point now. There is nothing transitory about this.
You’re right, but the private credit crash says NO!
If Trump plans on keeping the Strait closed because he’s no longer a “nice guy” and the Fed knows this is Trump’s plan, then it should be raising rates at least a quarter point to ward off the inevitable inflation. Strait closed = massive inflation.
The truth is Walsh testified before Congress with inflation running hotter at 3% or more being perfectly ok with him. This is JPow’s last change to do something right before it all goes wrong.
Even if Trump TACOs today, the damage is already baked into the inflation cake.
Do worry, Trump will find a way to make things even worse.™

Meanwhile, many sources show that Iran is still shipping oil in spite of the US blockade.

If Iran weren’t selling oil, the price would sky rocket to $150, not sure why people can’t put 2 and 2 together on this issue.
And the US dropped sanctions on Russian oil again after saying they wouldn’t. Helping your enemies in order to keep oil prices lower than they would otherwise be, in order to keep gas prices lower for US consumers.
