Biden Challenges Trump to a Debate, Trump Accepts, Advantage Whom?

“Make my day” said Biden to Trump in a Tweet, challenging Trump to a debate. Two debates are set. Trump seeks two more. What just happened? Think about that. I propose an answer below.

Make My Day, Pal

Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate.

Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again.

Well, make my day, pal.

OK Said Trump

The Wall Street Journal reports Biden and Trump Agree to Debates in June and September

President Biden and former President Donald Trump have agreed to debates in June and September, hosted by CNN and ABC respectively, bypassing the commission that typically has overseen the events and scheduling them earlier than in past general elections.

CNN said Wednesday that its debate would take place June 27 in its Atlanta studios without an audience. The moderator and other details will be announced later, the network said. Trump and Biden both said they had also agreed to a debate hosted by ABC on Sept. 10.

The announcements came after Biden proposed two debates with Trump in June and September. Trump accepted, while also seeking two additional debates, in July and August.

The scheduling of the debates resulted from a public back-and-forth Wednesday morning between the two candidates’ camps. Biden proposed two debates in a video and his campaign sent a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates, saying he wouldn’t participate in their proposed fall contests and calling for the campaigns to instead coordinate directly with networks.

“I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September,” he said on his social-media platform.

Format Advantage

One of my friends complained about the no audience format and muting of microphones when the other is speaking. He also complained about the lack of an audience.

But who gains here?

It’s technically equal. But I like the format.

Trump likes to play the audience and interrupt. Biden wants to stop the interruptions. But Trump is often his own worst enemy when he interrupts. It doesn’t look presidential.

Instead of playing the audience, he will do well to focus on what he needs to say to win over more independents, suburban women, and young voters.

What Just Happened?

Biden is so far behind in the swing state polls, that he needs to win these debate. If Biden was far ahead, it’s highly doubtful that he would go on stage for more than a short debate, and one as late as possible.

Trump cannot turn it down, so he upped the ante to four.

Winning two out of two for Biden will be hard enough. But if Biden flunks the first two he will want more.

Fresh Alarm Bells

The Hill reports Polling Sets Off Fresh Alarm Bells for Biden

A fresh poll from The New York Times brought more bad news for President Biden as he struggles to catch up to former President Trump in the key battleground states that will decide November’s election.

The poll found Trump leading in five out of six swing states, with Wisconsin the lone place where Biden is ahead. More concerning for Biden is that the poll found the president is losing support among young voters and Black and Hispanic voters, all of whom are critical to his coalition to win reelection.

CNN’s Harry Enten, who specializes in polling data, said Monday that The New York Times numbers out of the Sun Belt states of Nevada and Arizona were “an absolute disaster.”

The numbers out of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were more workable for the Biden campaign, Enten said, signaling that a sweep of the Great Lakes states and the traditional “blue wall” is Biden’s likeliest path to victory.

“It’s advantage Donald Trump, but he’s not over the 270 mark just yet,” Enten said.

“What’s so impressive about this is polls have historically underestimated Trump’s support, not overestimated Trump’s support,” said Ford O’Connell, a Republican strategist, who noted Trump was at 49 percent or 50 percent support in four of the states where he’s leading.

“And then if you couple this poll with nearly 100,000 people showing up in Arctic blue New Jersey, this is a disaster for Biden,” he added, referring to a rally Trump held in Wildwood, N.J., over the weekend.

I will go over the latest polls shortly. But it’s reasonably clear the challenge to Trump stems from those polls.

The Above Tweet was from June 11, 2019.

Biden is Making it Hard on Himself

Yesterday, I commented Joe Biden vs Joe Biden on Tariffs, a Green Trade War Is Underway

Joe Biden’s changing story of tariffs would be funny if it was not so damaging. The president announced huge new tariffs today.

Astute readers will immediately notice the title of this post makes no sense. It’s not supposed to. But it is exactly what President Biden is doing.

A big green trade war has started. The result will be higher prices for cars, solar panels, even lumber, and housing.

It Trump was clueless, what does that make Biden who took Trump’s policies and escalated them?

People Who Rent Will Decide the 2024 Presidential Election

Immigration won’t decide the election. Polls have not yet captured what will. This may come as a surprise, but the top issue housing. More explicitly, it’s shelter costs.

For discussion, please see People Who Rent Will Decide the 2024 Presidential Election

Young voters and blacks abandoning Biden is what will decide the election. Their big issue is inflation, particularly rent and the price of new houses.

“But Trump is often his own worst enemy when he interrupts. It doesn’t look presidential.”

I remember CNN’s Wolf Blitzer said Trump looked “presidential” when he ordered some ordinance be dropped on Syria, after a claimed gas attack by Assad.

Apparently, Biden is demanding a “taped” interview – no live audience or viewing aloud, which means it will all be edited, and surely the moderator will be an establishment hack, lobbing softballs and Joe, while grilling Trump. Also, RFK Jr was not invited. All sounds perfectly fair.

Trump should ignore that Biden even exists (because he really doesn’t) and invite RFK Jr to debate, along with anyone from the establishment that would dare show up, and ask Tucker to moderate.

We have a massive border and narcotics invasion destroying the country. Forced mRNA injections are gross human rights violations. “Lockdowns” are just martial law authoritarianism. The Biden crime family has dozens of phony shell companies and no evidence of legitimate business services or products. We had a massive military defeat and a massive endless unwinnable new proxy war started because of neocon imperialist marxists aligned with this regime. We have runaway inflation and debt. And we have an incoherent nonfunctional President. This ought to be the easiest debate in history.

I’d ask you for links to information proving all that, but I know you don’t have any… it’ll make you mad to contemplate the fact that you don’t though. You will gradually realize that if you take the time to look, at which point you’ll retreat to victimhood and start bleating ‘fake news’ or ‘real men wear diapers’.

So: Do you have any credible links substantiating any of that?

???? There are thousands of interwebs links you can find this info. Are you too lazy to do a keyword search? I’d start with quality websites instead of regime media propaganda. URLs ending in .org (Federal Reserve), .mil (official press releases), .gov (research studies), .edu (peer-reviewed science), will typically have more analysis and confirmed facts than our “news” outlets. Peer-reviewed research tends to give you the highest confidence and most reliable data. Good luck!

Trump should’ve demanded that Fox News have one of the two debates. The CNN “journalists” have called Trump “a Hitler” and other negative references.

I would like to know what new drug(s) Biden’s handlers will give him to survive the debates. What they’re giving him now doesn’t seem to work too well.

Don’t use any regime media for any political debate. Use a panel of the best qualified podcasters and citizen journalists that have been ostracized from both the left and right sides of regime media propaganda outlets. Legacy media is completely discredited and is no longer relevant in 2024. Glenn Greenwald and Tucker Carlson, Trish Regan, Rick Sanchez, Megyn Kelly, for example.

Go to deep blue states or cities and counties in red states. For whatever reason, liberals don’t like to display their politics in their front yards like conservatives. So be careful with those calculations based on signage. If 1 out 3 folks have a Trump flag in their yard, it might mean 2 out 3 folks are voting for Biden.

Keep in mind that the direction of national unemployment (U3) between March and June of a presidential election year has predicted the winner of the popular vote in all but three of the 19 elections since WW2. And two of the three misses were artifacts of statistical anomalies. Only in 1956, when Eisenhower was re-elected in spite of an uptick in UE in the second quarter, did the indicator unambiguously fail.

The indicator does not forecast the margin, nor the electoral college. That’s determined by the campaigns and media, and the distribution of votes in the states. March U3 was 3.8%, and April was 3.9%. All signs point to an increase in May, but we shall see. June should be definitive, absent a black swan event.

You will never, ever see this in the intrepid media. The editorial side depends on rampant amateur political science masquerading as insight, while the advertising side chases the tsunami of ad spending. And the obsessives (me too) get distracted and forget that, in the end, it has been about unemployment for the past 72 years. Why? Because unemployment is God’s own confidence destroying gut punch, overriding everything else.

I had intended to post about this every month of the second quarter, but it’s just too tiresome. I will definitely post in early July after the June numbers are released, and am undecided about May, pending those numbers in early June.

The rule is this: Unless U3 is lower in June than it was in March, the incumbent party’s candidate loses. If there is no change, it’s a very close election in the popular vote. If it’s a fairly big move (1948, 1980, 1998) the margin is wide, with an asterisk for 1998 because Obama is black and the Ds took a risk. Had their candidate been white, it would have been a Reaganesque landslide.

The nerds don’t want to believe it, but the numbers tell the story. If May’s U3 is 4% or higher, Biden’s chances will be quite dim, because to make up 0.3% in a single month is quite rare, maybe even unheard of. The percentage is small, but not the absolute numbers behind it.

So keep yammering, kids, but to quote James Carville from 1992, “It’s the economy, stupid.” He might be wrong about a lot of other things, but he nailed it back then. Just as true now, and will be again unless there’s a black swan.

It’s too bad microphone mute is a necessity. Otherwise, the field is wide open for a new method of real-time candidate comparison.

People yelling over each other is not my idea of a useful, pleasant, or informative TV show, but such shows are still popular??

I’d like to see microphone muting controlled partially by something like a chess clock.

The gag orders from the crooked judge in NYC only made everyone want to hear what Trump had to say. What was so jarring to the washington DC blob that they risked tampering with a trial?

The judge issued a gag order, every Tom Dick Harry and Sally demanded to know what the real problem was… the problem was the DA tampered with evidence, withheld information, and still hasn’t identified an actual crime to be considered. Stormy Daniels discussed what sex positions she and the donald like …. but the NY state bar has egg on its face (lets hope that is egg).

The mute button is going to hurt CNN, and wreck ratings…. which is to say the mute thing isn’t going to happen. Sure they will have something called mute, but it will be watered down to the point of irrelevance. Ratings matter to TV networks. Intellectual blah-blah-blah does not. CNN needs to regain viewership or their new owners will shut it down permanently. CNN needs this to work.

This gag order- I mean mute button- will only amplify whatever Trump has to say. Maybe they can keep it off the reality TV show, but they won’t keep it from getting out. That will only hurt CNN.

This is not a debate, that is just something they put in the show description to fool the couch vegetables that think NCIS and CSI are real police investigation shows.

This circus is more like “reality TV” (there is absolutely nothing real about it). If you believe Paris Hilton actually did all her antics off-the-cuff, then you might believe this is actually a debate.

Felix

The mute button is going to hurt CNN

We’ll see. I doubt it. In fact, since all the pros will have their stop watches timing unmute time for later “analysis”, CNN should probably have a graphic showing the time each candidate has been unmuted for. Ain’t nothing like a horse race for good watching.

Anyway, after that 2020 disaster when Trump failed to unhinge Biden by super-blustering, it would not be a surprise if, this time, Trump assumed the position of a truly caring youngster making poor old grandpa comfortable. Such a guise is so far off Trump’s normal cameras-on persona that it could work wonders. And would certainly gather attention from the cheerleaders on both sides.

This is not a debate

Hey, stop being realistic! This is a political discussion. 🙂

Both candidates are well known to the public. If they both behave as they have for the last 7-8 years… this reality tv show isn’t going to change any votes.

If CNN behaves like it did when it was TimeWarner, they will go out of business. If Discovery Warner (the new owners) want to keep CNN going, they have to change it. No more censoring candidates the on-air staff disagree with.

Ergo, all the risk of this mute thing is on CNN

Felix
Felix

Yes. The candidates both can live with a mute button … one hopes. So, good for CNN trying something new at their own risk.

Worst case (for voters and CNN) is if the mute button works in a way that lets their talent run away with the show.

Where can I bet that Biden mis-reads the teleprompter? My real bet is the debates don’t happen because Trump refuses the conditions of the debate.

Willie Nelson II

This is not a debate, its two Jerry Springer episodes happening on one stage at the same time.

Back in history, these TV events are two people having simultaneous press conferences with the opponent making stupid faces to one side. But in modern times, its not even that.

In this fiasco, a senile old man hopped up on a huge drug cocktail will attempt to read a teleprompter full of text written without his knowledge — all without falling on his head or wandering off stage or sniffing some girls hair.

Trump is going to scream louder and interrupt more. He will “win”, in so far as one wins a circus.

Trump’s behavior will seriously piss off the media weenies who think this is supposed to be a dignified media event. America stopped caring what the media thinks long ago, and we tuned them out. If Trump manages to make the media commentators cry, we may award Trump a few extra points, which have zero meaning except to further upset the media.

RFK would look stupid if he is allowed to show up. Who is the weird looking guy taking this Jerry Springer episode way too seriously? RFK would be exactly like the team that plays against the Harlem Globetrotters and loses…. because that is not really a basketball game, its entertainment.

I doubt Biden really understands what is happening, or the funny words his staffers are putting on the teleprompter. If Jill Biden actually cared, she would have advised her husband not to embarrass himself. Staffers are taking advantage of a senile man – who was a crook in his better days, so not exactly a sympathetic victim – to advance their marxist cause. Biden is not with-it enough to pull it off

There arent enough B12 shots on the entire planet earth to keep Biden animated!!!. Obama’s staffers in the White House must be panicking.

Biden is polling significantly behind in every swing state, and the economy is dipping further into recession (using the common person’s idea of a recession — the academic definition is … well, academic and pointless).

I guess Obama plans to just accept defeat and to use senile Joe in a Saddam Hussein style “scorched earth” tactic? No other explanation makes sense.

As for debating abilities… this is not a debate. Its a two way press conference, featuring a lot of screaming and talking over one another. Roberts Rules, as if anyone involved knows them, are not enforced and not enforceable. RFK arguably might have an advantage in an actual debate between candidates under Roberts rules or similar – but in a screaming press conference?

Trump is far more energetic, screams loudly, and has zero restraint from interrupting other people constantly. He dominates this sort of thing. Its not really a debate.

Anyway, the DNC rigged the outcome to put Biden into the scream-fest, and to keep RFK out. Its Trump vs Biden, and Trump will easily prevail.

Its a scorched earth attack by marxists who have pissed off the electorate. Biden isn’t there to win, he’s there to make divisive comments and pit various subgroups of voters against each other. Standard Marx insurrection tactics

You are wrong to look at this as an honest “debate”. it is no such thing

Willie Nelson II

Inflation forced the Fed to raise interest rates off of zero (though FF are still well below cost of living changes).

Without zero interest rates, a lot of commercial activity makes no economic sense (IPOs, endless commercial REITs, most recent private equity deals, etc). That part of the economy is simply imploding.

Commercial real estate in general is a disaster, regardless of interest rates. Too much is located in crime infested, infrastructure neglected cities run by marxist losers. The illegal covid lockdowns and work from home initiatives destroyed the notion that we “must” go into the office to talk on a phone with someone who can’t see us and has no idea where we are working from.

If the economy is working half as well as you claim, people would not be maxing out credit cards to buy groceries. We wouldn’t be hearing about big layoffs in tech and manufacturing. Even the crap known as hospitals and higher education are imploding – closures in both.

If you think the US economy is growing fast enough to even keep up with inflation, you are as out of touch as Biden.

That’s one take, or the internet has emaciated stereotypical brick n’ mortar.

NFLX has crushed AMC, AMZN is decimating retail, can’t remember the last travel agency I saw but I use booking.com several times a year to fly to Europe & Asia.

But sure, it’s all the “marxist” looters.

You observe correctly a long-term trend towards online retail and out-of-town warehouses. Hence the falling demand for what used to be in-demand inner city buildings in desirable locations, and office jobs that can be offshored or turned into WFH jobs.

Price rises are not inflation; artificially politically engineered scarcity raises prices.
There is no inflation or money printing.
The Fed does not “raise rates” it follows the bond yields, and they rose as debt was sold off by the likes of Japan, China, and other buyers looking to avoid the weaponisation of the USD.

Commercial real estate is down because of technology as much as culture – companies also want to cut costs like paying for a building that isn’t really necessary when staff can work from home or be replaced by offshoring and automation.

Err, well it is… the data shows it definitely heading south 6 months ago, and the pre-running of that goes back to January 2022. Commercial is falling through the floor around the world for a number of political, demographic, and economic reasons.

And that’s been good news, the Fed’s been trying to extinguish the bubble since 2022.

The problem is that the economy keeps hammering away, there’s been no recession and it looks like there won’t be one, Fed be damned.

The fact that 100,000 people showed up in New Jersey to see Trump tells you all you need to know. BTW, tons of people from PA go to the Jersey shore.

100K people did not show up in New Jersey for Trump. It was probably less than 20K, and many fans left early before Trump had even finished speaking. This has been fact checked several times.

I’m more concerned with a latent deflationary overshoot, the rate hikes from 2022 were pretty rapid.

It’s bewildering we never had a recession, most attribute that to stimulative measures by Biden, he cheated us out of a recession.

“Advantage Whom?”

I am no fan of either of these two clowns and I generally refrain from voting (I find it to be pointless). With that said, a rock would have a clear advantage over Joe Biden. The guy is clearly cognitively impaired primarily due to his age. Trump will eat him alive provided Trump keeps his emotions, and by extension his mouth, in check.

Except we all know that Trump doesn’t have the self control and discipline to control his mouth. I eagerly looked to forward to Trump wiping the floor with Sleepy Joe in the 2020 debates, but you know what? It didn’t happen. Biden didn’t come out looking any worse for the wear. They just screamed at each other the whole time and acted undignified.

Disclaimer: I dislike Trump but I f’ing hate Biden.

Things started going off the rails shortly after the ink was dry on the Constitution. The concept of the Rule of Law is an abstract, it doesn’t truely exist. The only laws that do exist are the laws of reality (i.e. nature). What we have is the best we humans can muster. Just as in antiquity, there will always be a hierarchy comprised of mostly sociopathic/psychopathic elites. As George Carlin once said “it’s a big club, and you ain’t in it”. So do what you must to make your life the best it can possibly be.

Kamila’s own staffers hate her guts. Newsome was forced to admit the California budget is a disaster, and his lies about people fleeing the state have been loudly discredited by his fellow lefties. The DNC is stuck with Biden because they have no other options (at least not in 2024 elections).

Maybe they will drag John Kerry in as a place holder? That would be conceding the election. It would only be done to keep themselves on the ballot for 2028.

Lots of people told Florida’s governor that he will be an ideal candidate in 2028, either as the main ticket or with Tulsi Gabbard. But he wasn’t ready for 2024, and they really need an adversarial guy like Trump to go in and decimate the federal bureaucracy first (slash headcount), get the trash out. Then someone else can rebuild starting in 2028.

The Dems need to rebuild their party, getting rid of the marxists controlled by Soros, getting rid of the corrupt Clintons, and then rebuilding the party (maybe go back to advocating for the middle class?) That’s a lot more work, requires more time.

They would have replaced Biden already if they had any options.

But the stupider it gets, they always advance more stupid. Hence Joe debating. If so, he potentially could pull enough votes to swing Michigan, NH and Nevada, assuming he pulls much more from one candidate than the other. The other 9 states aren’t up for grabs (or if they are, the election is already a landslide and it doesn’t matter) and don’t matter.

25 EVs that *might* be influenced… so far just a minor story.

Looking at the topics and percentages on that list: abortion, climate, guns, student debt, economy, immigration and other.

There is no context but I will assume Biden “wins” with:
Abortion (16%)
Climate (10%)
Guns (7%)
Student Debt (11%)

Total = 44

Trump “wins” with:
Economy (39%) – and that’s giving him 100%
Immigration (11%) – but supposedly this doesn’t count as an issue?

Total = 39

Then there is other 7% which you can probably split 4/3 or 3/4 and Biden is still ahead so how does Trump win here?

Biden doesn’t “win” with student debt. The vast majority of Americans are against blue-collar taxpayers footing the tuition of people with gender study degrees. The student loan debacle is solved by allowing the loans to be discharged in bankruptcy and making sure the banks eat it when that happens instead of the taxpayers. Every tangential issue solves itself after those 2 changes.

The only winning pieces of the Democratic platform are abortion and “Trump sucks.” Nothing else the Dems are pushing resonates with swing voters, so that’s all we’re going to hear over the next 6 months.

these are tiny portions of the electorate’s concerns… you need to weight these percentages with the actual realistic proportions of voters likely to vote for them, otherwise it’s just wishful thinking at best, and propaganda garbage at worst.

The economy is a massive issue, that affects more people (as far as their concerned) than any of your 4 niche issues. Both immigration and economy are linked to housing; your 4 are not, they just don’t matter enough, so your assessment is false.

Biden is not ahead amongst independent voters.
A lot of Biden’s imagined vote is not a high-turnout constituency, even with mail voter fraud.

You forgot Gaza. About 15% of leftists have said they won’t vote for Biden over his support of Israel. Now they won’t vote for Trump if course but on Election Day they will stay away from voting. Trumps support for Israel won’t cost him many votes and the few he loses will be made up by democrat leaning Jews or pro Israel Americans who are disappointed with Biden flim flaming over withholding arms over Rafah or not doing enough to control the anti Jew protests on many uni campus.

It’s more than you win or lose on some trivial point. JFK won the first debate because of a poor make up job on Nixon, who had been recovering from a cold. Radio listeners gave Nixon a slight edge.
Ford made a mistake saying Eastern Europe was free from Russian domination at the end of a long explanation. Reagan won with “there you go again” and 4 years later saying he would not take advantage of his opponent’s youth. Bentsen to Quayle he was no Jack Kennedy

Quite frankly a lot of them are useless
