Very interesting graphs! In August and September, the typical trend is for an increase in diesel prices and a decrease in gasoline prices for a variety of reasons like rising versus falling demand. For diesel, the effects of the ME war are thus additive to an expected normal increase, giving the recent large increases. For gasoline, it looks like the historical trends opposed the ME war effects for a while, with the price per gallon of gas stuck around the $4 mark for a month or so due to the counterbalancing forces. I think though we have broken through that period for various reasons, like the ever-diminishing releases from the SPR. My expectation is we will hit $5 substantially before the election.
When Republican Congressmen look at this chart, they probably get tears in their eyes when they think what could have been if Trump had not attacked Iran and the price of gas had remained in the $3.50 range. Getting fired sucks, even if it is because you sucked at your job.

I mean all you have to do to fix immigration is offer a real path to citizenship (through public works/service that we desperately need perhaps) and it evens out.
