Gasoline Is 59 Cents from Record High, Diesel Only 19 Cents Away

Hello consumers and farmers. Are you tired of winning yet?

Some believe this is winning. For example, please consider Robin Brooks.

Jim Bianco Disagrees

The Result

It is amusing for two diametrically opposing positions to see victory out of this.

Having followed Brooks for a long time on sanctions, he hasn’t been right once.

On September 19, 2023, I noted Lesson of the Day: Sanctions Don’t Work Because They Create New Markets

A person who touted a buyer’s cartel sanction success, now complains the buyers cartel leaks like a sieve.

Today, Robin Brooks is touting success and diesel prices surge towards record highs.

Amazingly, Brooks posts a chart of oil prices as a measure of “success”.

Gaslighting a Record High

Losing Less Is Losing

Somehow Brooks Portrays This as Winning

More Winning

A Friendly Reminder on China

“China’s rare-earth grip is still the West’s hidden fragility. You can’t talk defense rebuild, EV scale, or AI hardware resilience while the magnet supply chain still runs through Beijing’s licensing desk.”

Don’t you just hate it when two sentences destroy your nonsensical ideas of winning?

Apparently, losing less than the rest of the world is winning.

How Big Will the “Blue Wave” Be in the Midterm Elections?

On April 12, 2026, I addressed the question How Big Will the “Blue Wave” Be in the Midterm Elections?

I expect Republicans will lose nearly every seat the consensus now labels as tossup.

My position has not changed despite gerrymandering efforts on both sides.

It’s hopeless.

Expect a Republican bloodbath in November, perhaps a very shocking Senate result one that no one else is even discussing, yet.

Note: I am not a Democrat. I am a Libertarian who has not voted for a Republican or a Democrat for president in decades. I pretty much don’t like any of them.

BROOKS: “Should’ve done this to Russia!”

Yeah, right. A tanker of Russian crude steamed into Cuba the other week. No U.S. blockade vessel interfered. That’s because it was shadowed by a Russian sub.

Does Brooks take that little reality into account? I doubt it.

Its hard to gaslight American citizens on the price of gas and diesel.

Agree. As far as Jim Bianco goes, talk about confusing cause and effect.

On behalf of every Canadian, I want to express my thanks to Donald Trump for making gasoline great again in Canada at $9.67/US gallon, or as we price it here $1.829/Litre CAD (price today near my house). Diesel is way more.

Thanks for stopping that nuclear threat from Iran, we don’t mind doing our part to help….make more profits for oil companies, and a bonanza for the Canadian Government who takes in a lot more tax money. Consumers sure don’t need that maney anyway, the cost of living in Canada is so low it is not even worth mentioning.

Its going to be a very long time before anyone here forgives the US for this cluster*ck.

Trump stepped in to save Spirit Airlines after Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg and Joe Biden killed the Blue/Spirit merger. It was the banks who would not go along with the bail out, not Trump. These are the facts.

0 capacity to refine rare earths in almost every country….no one wants to do it in their own country, too much radioactive toxic waste and workers who die from radiation poisoning….all MAGA should apply for jobs at one of these places

You want that near your house?

That’s why China has the monopoly. Many countries have rare earths, but if you can’t refine them, so what, they are useless.

“Hello consumers and farmers. Are you tired of winning yet?”

Well given farmer bankruptcies doubled in Iowa, let’s ask them if they like owning the libs at the expense of everything they own. And as always, asking for more handouts so they can pat themselves on the back about how independent and self-reliant they are…lol.

https://www.dakotanewsnow.com/2026/04/28/iowa-farm-bankruptcies-more-than-double-economic-pressures-mount/

Farm leaders said farmers are facing a tough economy, making it harder for families to plan for the future. “They’re also putting off bringing on the next generation onto the farm, which is badly needed. The average age of the Iowa farmer is over 57 years old. We need new and beginning farmers,” said Aaron Lehman, president of the Iowa Farmers Union. “Putting off that investment in the next generation is really a scary thing because we know that we have to have that in order to make our farms viable in the long term.”

Spirit Airlines is gone. That’s 17,000 jobs gone. I wonder if they like the winning.

But you ain’t seen nothing yet cuz…
Do worry, Trump will find a way to make things even worse.™

Why are they concerned, MAGA farmers frequently tell us they don’t need government handouts because they’re so self-reliant and independent and they hate socialism.

And all those bible thumpers live and die by the good book so they should be familiar with the concept of “you reap what you sow.”

If they don’t like the bitter harvest perhaps they shouldn’t have sown those types of seeds.

Here in Silicon Valley, regular gas at the station I always go to is $6.69 a gallon.

I am not yet seeing price inflation in the two products I am taking as my sentinels – my dogs’ Purina food and my ancient father in law’s Walmart protein shakes. I keep checking and expecting them to go up; it seems they have to pretty soon.

Lol! Trump promised to cut gas and other energy prices in half. Instead he has dramatically raised them. Oops. Of course, he also promised to not start any wars or attempt regime changes in other countries.

He also said we don’t need oil (or anything else) from Canada. Yet he just signed on to build a pipeline that will bring another 550,000 barrels per day of Canadian oil to the US.

Papa d. Whats your take on ca gas when this settles. Besides the special blend and extra taxes. Since oil is priced globally will we notice the missing refineries. If they were producing cheaper i would think they were still charging close to market rate of import.

California gasoline prices will jump with every refinery closure. They are not connected to the rest of the US (like Texas electricity). Importing gas from offshore or trucking it in are expensive. Expect $8 in the near future. Californians will need to go EV or PHEV.

High gas prices should increase the sales of hybrids, PHEVs, and EVs.

Mexicans get to buy inexpensive Chinese EVs and PHEVs. Americans don’t.

Chery Auto of China announced that they will be opening a few dealerships in Canada by the end of the year as Canada will accept up to 49,000 Chinese imports per year with a small 6.1% tariff. (In a market that sells 1.9 million cars per year.) I expect that they will eventually agree to build them in Canada in order to be able to sell more.

You can buy FIVE (yes the number 5) EV cars in China for the price of ONE American car.

https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/average-price-car-us-you-could-buy-5-new-chinese-evs-2026-04-28/

And the tech in those cars is far superior to anything else out there. People will fight the China auto juggernaut to the very end the same way the candle makers fought the electric bulb.
