Don’t we have enough government meddling and useless bureaucracy already? I guess not. The list of agencies involved in Biden’s new announcement is stunning.
Understanding the GSCPI
Have you heard of the GDCPI? Unless you are a real economic data geek you probably haven’t. I haven’t until Biden mentioned it today.
Here is the GSCPI Index Explanation from the New York Fed.
Our index integrates transportation cost data and manufacturing indicators to provide a gauge of global supply chain conditions.
Our goal in constructing the Global Supply Chain Pressure Index (GSCPI) was to develop a parsimonious measure of global supply chain pressures that could be used to gauge the importance of supply constraints with respect to economic outcomes.
Hoot of the Day
Please consider a new White House Fact Sheet emphasis mine.
President Biden Announces New Actions to Strengthen America’s Supply Chains, Lower Costs for Families, and Secure Key Sectors.
As part of his Bidenomics agenda to lower costs for American families, President Biden is announcing nearly 30 new actions to strengthen supply chains critical to America’s economic and national security. These actions will help Americans get the products they need when they need them, enable reliable deliveries for businesses, strengthen our agriculture and food systems, and support good-paying, union jobs here at home.
Today, President Biden will convene the inaugural meeting of the White House Council on Supply Chain Resilience, which will advance his long-term, government-wide strategy to build enduring supply chain resilience.
Who’s Involved?
I glad you asked because the list is small.
Co-Chairs to the White House Council on Supply Chain Resilience
- The National Security Advisor
- The National Economic Advisor
- The Secretaries of Agriculture, Commerce, Defense, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, the Interior, Labor, State, Transportation, the Treasury, and Veterans Affairs
- The Attorney General
- The Administrators of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Small Business Administration
- The Directors of National Intelligence, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Office of Science and Technology Policy
- The Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers
- The U.S. Trade Representative
- Other senior officials from the Executive Office of the President and other agencies.
Perfect Timing!
What better time could there possibly be to create this task force adding over 20 individual agencies as co-chairs to an obviously critical mission than when supply chain pressures are at a record low of -1.74?
Clearly, Biden’s timing could not possibly be better.
What Else is Involved?
- Monitoring of climate impacts. The White House National Security Council, Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the Council of Economic Advisers will co-lead an interagency effort in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to monitor global developments related to El Niño, including this climate phenomenon’s impact on U.S. and global commodity prices, agriculture and fishery output, disruptions to global and trade supply chains, and resulting impacts on food security, human health, and social instabilities.
- New Resilience Center and tabletop exercises for supply chain disruptions.
- Launch of DOT Multimodal Freight Office. As part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (“BIL”) implementation, DOT is launching its Office of Multimodal Freight Infrastructure and Policy (“Multimodal Freight Office”). This office is responsible for maintaining and improving the condition and performance of the nation’s multimodal freight network including through the development of the National Multimodal Freight Network, review of State Freight Plans, and the continued advancement of the FLOW initiative in partnership with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
- AI hackathons to strengthen critical mineral supply chains. USGS, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E), building on their 2022 prize challenges announcement, will host a series of hackathons beginning in February 2024 to develop novel artificial intelligence approaches to assess domestic critical mineral resources.
- Risk mapping for labor rights abuses. The Department of Labor (DOL) updated its Comply Chain guidance for identifying and addressing labor rights violations in global supply chains.
- A $275 million in grant selections for its Advanced Energy Manufacturing and Recycling Grant Program, investments that will revitalize communities affected by coal mine or coal power plant closures through investment in clean energy supply chains.
- Use of the Defense Production Act to make more essential medicines in America and mitigate drug shortages.
- Global Labor Directive. On November 16, President Biden signed the Presidential Memorandum on Advancing Worker Empowerment, Rights, and High Labor Standards Globally. The President directed several departments to address labor rights abuses in global supply chains and identify innovative approaches to promote internationally recognized labor rights throughout the supply chain, including by collaborating with labor organizations, workers, and other labor stakeholders to consider efforts that support worker-led monitoring of labor rights compliance.
What the H is This Really About?
The answer is twofold. First, Biden will do anything and everything to force people into compliance with his idiotic energy and climate change policies.
Second, it’s a desperate and no doubt counterproductive attempt to shore up his polls.
Why Are Americans in Such a Rotten Mood?
On November 17, I discussed the rotten mood of consumers. Polls show people do not think the economy is humming.
For discussion, please see Why Are Americans in Such a Rotten Mood? Biden Blames the Media
Biden blames the media when people are struggling with Rent and Food. Rent of primary residence has gone up at least 0.4 percent for 27 consecutive months!
And The Average Increase in the Price of Food Every Month for 32 Months is 0.6 Percent
This new program will add more inflationary bureaucracy to a system overflowing with inflation and ridiculous bureaucracy.
Mercy!

Participants in the first meeting of the White House Council on Supply Chain Resilience included:
That is a lot of people who either have too much free time or were burdened by their boss calling another meeting.
“Biden will do anything and everything to force people into compliance with his idiotic energy and climate change policies.”
And what, exactly, is so idiotic about wanting machines to keep working? Fossil fuels are running out, so something has to be done about that. That something is called the energy transition. If you are going to say: “Hey, nobody told me that climate change is real and fossil fuels are really running out,” all I have to say to that is that when I asked Jeremy Leggett, that knows a lot about the energy issues, he said that he once had a talk about it with people in the governing party at the time, and they knew all about it, but they said they’d never make it a campaign issue because it would never work as a campaign issue.
So there you have it. The reason you were never told is because democracy isn’t working. By now, I suppose it’s hardly news that democracy isn’t working.
Who needs democracy to work when bureaucracy is expanding so wonderfully.
*Sigh* Yet another federal government ‘watchdog’ clusterf*ck that will only excel at wasting inordinate amounts of taxpayer dollars and using its’ presidential defined power for nefarious means while providing nothing more than a false sense of security, at best.
The citizens of this nation deserve better than this but every election brings a parade of the same old, same old from both sides of the aisle and I don’t expect 2024 to be any different.
Luckily, this word salad of agencies will be about as good as the Inflation Reduction Act is for reducing inflation. In short, it will cost a lot of money and create shovel ready jobs.
“The answer is twofold. First, Biden will do anything and everything to force people into compliance with his idiotic energy and climate change policies.”
Isn’t that authoritarianism? Authoritarianism is not democracy. Why aren’t Democrats complaining about that? They love authoritarianism.
“Authoritarianism is not democracy.”
Of course it is. Isn’t that pretty darned obvious by now?
Government, period; or at least any government extending beyond that which is entirely unanimously agreed upon by everyone current AND future; is Authoritarianism.
Some minimal levels authoritarianism _may_ be acceptable.
Exactly how authoritarian a government is, is a function of how small and limited it is. Not whether it is engaged in some some arbitrary, silly chad dimpling ritual every so often.
When the US was founded; it’s government was small, and limited. Hence legitimate. Small and limited was why it was legitimate. The irrelevancy that it also happened to engage in some ritual of “Voting”; as opposed to say, another ritual involving strange women in ponds distributing swords; was a mere operational detail. Irrelevant, at best.
In fact, in hindsight, it has proven straight up destructive: Problem is, “voting” has proven to NOT be a check on government growth (exhibit: Size of US and Euro governments….). Instead, it has in fact served the exact opposite role: It has been used to LEGITIMISE ever larger, more invasive and authoritarian government: “We” “get the government” “we” voted for nonsense etc.. As if that is some sort of excuse for unlimited government.
And now, as The West is crumbling into ever more obvious-to-all irrelevance, and is backed into a corner: The latest fad amongst the illiterate indoctrinati, is to crassly screech that all manners of authoritarian overreach is somehow “justified” specifically, AND ONLY, BECAUSE “we” “are a” “Demoooooocraciiiiii!!!”
The “winning” candidate in U.S. presidential elections tends to be ‘no vote’, when one considers the total pool of eligible voters. A plurality choose not to vote rather than pick someone to rule over them – too bad the imperfect founders didn’t account for that and have it be a de facto means to limit/reduce the federal government.
He needs to create a “Why Am I Owned By China?” Commission.
Sometimes there are just no enough
abbreviations for a government programs.
I give up.
I will post this note with my most elaborate English ability:
“I WANT ME SOMMA DAT $275 Mil.”
HOWZA ‘Bout it, FJB?
Because the “Committee to Pad our Resumes with important sounding but meaningless titles in preparation for next year’s job search” doesn’t have the same ring to it
I have heard that the committee will be called the “Federal United Commitee to Keep Operations From Failing”.
I also heard that for equality reasons the committee will be aided by an all-female group called the ” Women’s Hospitality Operations for Recreation, Entertainment and Socialness”.
Some supply chains were properly screwed by T & B trade wars and the pandemic.
Capitalism hates a vacuum. The supply chain issues solve themselves. The only thing the government can do is add risk of policy instability and make it harder to underwrite investments.
Any stable policy regime – no matter how good or bad – will allow acceptable supply chains in a broad diverse capitalist economy like the US.
90% of the Administrative State in DC is run by Democrat Party members. They need to create new Agencies to employ their Children coming out of Ivy league Schools.
2.7 million in 400 Federal agencies paid $575 million per day-IS NOT ENOUGH these parasites need MORE
“They need to create new Agencies to employ their Children coming out of Ivy league Schools.”
Yup: The only “good” “jobs” “created” in this totalitarian dump anymore; are pointless and destructive makework for the dilettante offspring of connected totalitarian-terror-state profiteers.
Two wars started during Biden’s first term. The pentagon : No Money. We had to
cut training and other plans in order to support Israel & Ukraine.
Stupid regime change Hakeem ousted the former speaker and got Mike Johnson instead. Mike Johnson will clamp Biden plans. The Ukraine war might end in a ceasefire. Hamas leaders and fighters might be ousted like Yasser Arafat from Beirut in 1982 to Turkey, Russia, Spain and Qatar in the flotilla.
No doubt this will increase the regulatory burden on business – more reporting demanded by the leaches to develop reports which will require dusting by the cleaners who will have to be hired to blah blah blah.
I’m constipated. I’m blaming Biden.
How dare you criticise the dear leader.
Off topic,
I assume MISH has business with UBS, since he has not mentioned the PROBLEMS they are having!!!
The global financial system is in trouble!!!!
Cui prodest? (who benefits?)
It’s more than polls and control. I’ll guess it leads to more give-a-ways to his Union buddies (in exchange for donations since he has their vote).
Are any of these guys (list, above) actually supposed to have the time to do anything on this? Are they *all* co-chairs? “State Freight Plan”? Is this something from Communist China?
if there are 20 co-chairs, then nothing will ever be accomplished
People complain they never hear investment tips on this forum, so here’s one: the best investment you can make is a donation to the Biden-Harris re-election campaign.
This sounds counter intuitive, but actually IS good investment advice. Biden will keep harassing big oil, and coal: thus increasing the price thereof, thus improving the stock price of OXY and XOM, and Peabody, etc. Biden, with help will continue to vastly increase the National debt, thus forcing some of us to look for appropriate hedges, and avoid US treasuries. Biden is a win-win for the stock market. Praise Biden for his acumen in helping the small investor.
Government creates a problem and then steps in to fix the problem. Results are things are worse and government is bigger – and that’s success.
Famous truism comes to mind with all the government horse puckey.
How do we know for absolute certainty when the government is lying to us?
Everyone knows it is when you see their mouths, (keyboards) running.
