Israel Prepares for a Second War Front on Lebanese Border

Israel Evacuates City Near Lebanon Border as It Hits Scores of Targets in Gaza.

In preparation for a second war front, Israel Evacuates City Near Lebanon Border

Israel ordered the evacuation of a city close to the Lebanese border, reflecting the Israeli military’s growing concern that a second front could open up to the north as it continues its bombing campaign in Gaza, including a strike on a church compound overnight.

“There will be three stages,” Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said. “We are now in the first stage—a military campaign that currently includes strikes, and will later include maneuvering, with the objective of neutralizing terrorists and destroying Hamas infrastructure.”

The second stage would involve lower-intensity operations to root out Hamas operatives, with the third being an Israeli pullout “and the establishment of a new security reality for the citizens of Israel,” Gallant said, without elaborating.

Meanwhile at the northern end of Israel, the country’s Defense Ministry said residents of Kiryat Shmona, a city of some 22,000 people, would be moved to guesthouses provided by the state. The decision, announced Friday, comes as the security situation along the Lebanese-Israeli border deteriorates.

The decision to evacuate Kiryat Shmona shows that Israel is taking seriously the possibility that clashes along the border with Lebanon could escalate into a full-blown conflict. In another indication that the situation at the Lebanese border could worsen, the State Department on Thursday asked all U.S. citizens to leave Lebanon while commercial flights are still available.

Is peace possible? I think so, but it will only come with great pain.

Netanyahu’s coalition has sought peace on its terms–i.e. by imposing new “realities on the ground” that make a 2-state solution impractical. It is now apparent by recent U.S. actions that U.S. leadership will support Israel no matter what it does as long as Israel’s absorption of West Bank territory toward a 1-State “fait accompli” is too gradual to disrupt the daily news cycle and embarrass the U.S.

Now Hamas has forced Israel’s hand, and the world is asking itself inconvenient questions about underlying causes of Gaza’s distress. Now bad optics for the U.S. has definitely gotten in the way of Israel’s slow strangulation of Palestine as its preferred path to peace. The 2-state solution is now probably back on the table as the surer route to peace (or at least I hope so).

Unfortunately, Israel will need to fight a long war before it gives up the 1-state dream. I doubt the U.S. will (or can) do much to alter Israel’s calculus. Even if Israel does come to see one state as no longer possible, it will need to fight still longer — maybe decades longer — before it concludes that agreeing to a viable Palestinian State is preferable to stopping (and eventually giving up) its West Bank settlements.

History shows time and again that very long wars are sometimes necessary for prideful hegemons to give up their vainglorious dreams (e.g. the U.S. in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq). Peace won’t come to Israel without justice for the Palestinians.

Two wise men talking about two stupid men ( FJB and Nutty).

So Israel has already murder 4,000 people including 1500 kids. I think that is enough retribution. Why is there no discussion of peace? Why is our President enabling Israel and letting this war expand to a larger area? Why doesn’t the IDF take out Nutty before he ends up killing a bunch of Israeli kids? This is colossal stupid. No one seems to be considering how things can spin out of control.

I like the Judge too. I’m a big fan of Col. MacGregor. The fact that this man is not a general speaks to the fact that he didn’t play the political games required for promotion in the military. He has some good stories he tells where he speaks truth to power and doesn’t get invited back. He is one of the top military strategists in the country and led the troops in Desert storm.

He is now CEO of a new political organization to restore integrity to the American government (is that possible?)

Who funds Hamas? A global network of crypto, cash and charities
By Hadeel Al Sayegh
Reuters
October 16, 2023

LONDON/DUBAI, Oct 13 (Reuters) – Palestinian militant group Hamas uses a global financing network to funnel support from charities and friendly nations, passing cash through Gaza tunnels or using cryptocurrencies to bypass international sanctions, according to experts and officials.

However, Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, will face even more obstacles accessing funds after the rampage by the group’s gunmen that killed hundreds of Israelis, mainly civilians. Israel has responded with the heaviest bombardment of Gaza in 75 years of conflict.

Earlier this week, Israeli police said they froze a Barclays bank account the authorities said was linked to Hamas fundraising and blocked cryptocurrency accounts used to gather donations, without specifying how many accounts or the value of the assets.

The move provided a glimpse of a complex financial web, some legitimate, much hidden, that underpins Hamas, or the Islamic Resistance Movement, and its government in the Gaza Strip, which it has run since 2007.

Re: Lebanon

This and many similar stories in the media is reminiscent of the worry over Russia using its nuke and why the West should capitulate to Putin and let him have Ukraine.

If Hezbollah attacks Israel, they and southern Lebanon will be wiped clean by Israel, backed by the USA.

If Iran chooses to then directly enter the battle, they will suffer the same consequences but with the added benefit that our assist may enable the many Iranian dissents to finally be able to win back the country from the Islamists. Payback for 1979.

Jordan and SA will stay out of this fray.

Putin has already won the war in Ukraine despite the gibberish coming from Biden’s mouth. Also Putin never threatened the use of Nukes in Ukraine. You also assume things will turn out well for Israel and the US if things spin out of control. I wouldn’t make that assumption. Listen to Col MacGregor assessment.

This is propaganda from the Ukrainian regime. They need to put a positive spin on their success in order to get more military aid from the US. The US just repeats the lie because its intent is not to help the Ukrainian people but to hurt Russia. Loyd Austin has said as much.

Russia is a much larger country. It is out producing the Western countries in munitions. The reason cluster munition were sent to Ukraine is because they ran out of conventional munitions. Biden let this slip out in one of his comments. Russia has increased the size of its army. It has air support for its troops. The past 3 months Ukrainian troops have been throwing themselves against fortified Russian positions and getting slaughtered. The casualty rate estimated from more reliable sources is between 5 to 10 Ukrainians killed for every Russian killed. That puts Russian casualties between 50K to 100K and Ukrainian casualties between 400K and 500K.

This war has destroyed Ukraine and it’s all the result of the neocons who have taken over US foriegn policy in both political parties. It is sad and I am ashamed of what our country has become.

Here is a short history of the neocons. Is it surprising it is fundamentally a Jewish political movement?

The bleeding hearts on the media are whining that hospitals in Gaza don’t have enough fuel to stay open. But Israel doesn’t want to give hospitals fuel because Hamas will steal much of it to use in their continuing missile attacks on Israel.

So WHY don’t the Gazan hospitals have solar panels and battery storage set up by now for times like these when they can’t secure needed fuel for continuing operations?

Israel should make the following statement to Gazan’s:
——–
People of Gaza:

We are sorry and apologize for the actions we are talking in Gaza that have resulted in so much destruction, death and injury.

However, we remind everyone that the necessity for these actions were brought on by the actions of the Hamas terrorists, your government representatives, when they wantonly attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, murdering, injuring, and taking hostages of innocent people, both Israeli and foreign citizens.

Actions have consequences.

There is one way to immediately end this situation, which is:

1. Hamas must release all hostages they are holding, whether dead or alive.
2. All Hamas members must put down their weapons and surrender to the Israeli IDF.
3. Gazan’s must renounce Hamas by electing/embracing a new government that does not include members of known terrorist groups, including Hamas, Islamic Jihad and others.

Failure to take the above operations will force Israel to continue its operations in Gaza, resulting in further Gazan destruction, death and injury.

1) Seems straight forward enough.

But how will anyone confirm #2 happened. If say 1000 surrender is that all of them? 2000? 5000? No one knows.

Same problem in #3. They can elect anyone tomorrow but what happens a year from now when they reelect Hamas with just a different name to make it sound like it’s not Hamas?

What BS! What a stupid way to justify war atrocities. Yes, Israel has a right to defend itself. Unfortunately it failed to do so and the Hamas attack occurred. This doesn’t given carte blanche to Israel to go bomb a civilian population in a crowded urban environment. If a terrorist was hiding in your neighborhood and DHS came in a bombed your house, I think you might have a different perspective. This is real! This is happening to real people. No need for armchair psychopaths. The world has enough of them.

1) 60% of Israel wants Bibi out when the war is over b/c he lied and lied and lied and didn’t apologize. Bibi : no rush.
2) The Iranian surprise attack from every direction was scr**d up by Hamas on Oct 7. They couldn’t resist attacking a concert/a party taking place near Gaza, slaughtering 260 and taking hostages. Two french hostages were released today, a mom and her beautiful daughter.
3) Hezbollah wants Hamas to deplete the Iron Dome in phase I, before they and Syria attack in phase II . Putin wants to bleed Biden on two fronts.
4) Hezbollah is showing some limited action in solidarity, but has no intention to die
and destroy Lebanon for Hamas and the Palestinians.
5) During the Franco Prussian war 1870 Bismarck ordered his generals to blockade
Paris and lobe 200/300 shells per day, for several months.

22K doesn’t seem like much but on a population basis that would be like relocating 800K US citizens which would be a pretty large city worth. More importantly, they will need food and other things provided by the state since there will be zero economic output from that city. I wonder how long that will be able to be afforded and how many other border towns may need similar evacuations.

On another note, I see the US has plans to ship tens (yes 10s) of thousands of 155mm shells to Israel for the fight with Hamas. Gaza strip is 140 sq miles or 3.9 billion sq ft (5280x5280x140). If one shell can obliterate say 100 sq yards (quite likely) that’s 300×300= 90K sq ft. At 10K shells that 900 million sq ft. or roughly 23% of the entire country. Essentially 40K shells should level 100% of Gaza and destroy all life and buildings. Does Israel need that many shells?

Doug78

Should be enough for Gaza. For Southern Lebanon probably not . They will need more. What they really need are the “bunker buster” bombs that can destroy installations more than one hundred feet underground and they are much fewer in number.

Israel would then need another 40K shells for the West Bank. This will make real the 1948 Zionist slogan (in retrospect, dream) — “Land without people for a people without land.” This dream will be fulfilled if this war plays out the way Netanyahu’s coalition would like, assuming the U.S. goes along (but has the U.S. ever restrained Israel?). Surely in Gaza the dream is to expel the Palestinians to Egypt, a sort of reverse Exodus. Biden seems too senile to understand the full implications of what he’s committing the U.S. to with this seeming no-strings-attached support of Israel. It’s a political black hole from which there is no escape, as was Iraq and Afghanistan. Bye bye Biden and the Democrats in 2024.

Or maybe Biden thinks being a “War President” ensures his re-election? I think that would be a fatal miscalculation. Supporting Israel full-stop is already fracturing blacks, youth and others from his coalition. Bye bye.
