Memorial Day Weekend Gas Prices Hit a Four-Year High, and Headed Up

How long before we have a new record high?

Four-Year High

The AAA reports Memorial Day Weekend Gas Prices Hit a Four-Year High

As holiday travelers start hitting the road today in record numbers, Memorial Day weekend gas prices are the highest they’ve been in four years. The national average for a gallon of regular is at $4.56, up 3 cents over last week and $1.38 higher than this time last year. Current prices are close to what drivers were paying 4 years ago, when the national average on Memorial Day was $4.61. With gasoline demand on the rise and the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz, pump prices are likely to remain elevated as the summer travel season gets underway.

AAA Fuel Prices

Gasoline and Diesel prices are little changed from a week ago. West Texas Intermediate Oil Prices have gyrated between $98 and $104 in this timeframe.

Oil futures are up again today, but only to $100 as I type. On top of increasing demand, that should be enough to send gasoline prices higher.

The longer the strait is closed, the higher prices will go.

Trump, not Iran is desperate for a deal.

I’d trade my 2020 Prius for a 2020 Tacoma V-6 or a Tundra V-8. My car in exchange for your truck plus $5000….deal.

On a nominal basis, not long.
Adjusted for inflation, which ironically they adjust out in the CPI along with food as it’s too volatile, 2012 values equate to nearly 5.40/gallon.

I only say it because we took our longest trip ever in 2012 and it was painful. If it gets there nationally it will alter plans despite markets being at all time highs and more than capable of covering gasoline prices. I’ve maintained for years that the only times I’ve seen folks truly alter their behaviors are, in no particular order: gasoline prices above $4 nationally, stock market at years-long lows/bear market, or unemployment (and recently added, during a pandemic). It’ll be a battle between millions in market value gain vs a few bucks higher per gallon of fuel (and all values that tag along with diesel/shipping/heating/electricity costs). Thus far the economy still hums. Wealth and the years-long painful sitting out of life during the pandemic have altered behavior quite a bit. In the lower-right of the K-shaped economy the impact is greater.

So why not stop the continual bashing of Trump and instead, give some focus to flogging the Iranian Regime for refusing to compromise on their end? Can the Iranian Regime do no wrong in your eyes? Do they not hold any responsibility?

Iran posed us no risk and didn’t do anything to us. We attacked them for no good reason. So the entire responsibility is borne by the American “Regime”.

In YOUR opinion and the opinions of the fools you listen to. All of you were and are wrong.

But it doesn’t matter because Trump doesn’t give a crap about what you think. All you can do is kick your dog harder.

Still amazes me that with the tonnes of facts out there how people support a lying, pedofile conman. The fact that he’s suing the US tax payer and wanting to muzzle the DOJ so they can’t go after any Trump family member is amazing. The Trump crime family makes the Biden crime family look like a bunch of god fearing honest folk.

You are either really STOOPID or choosing to ignore facts. Which is it?

The Iranian Regime has funded terrorist proxies that have brought terror to the Middle East for decades. Hundreds of Americans have been murdered by the Iranian Regime directly and indirectly. The Iranian Regime has been a destabilizing force in the Middle East since its founding.

Were they able to complete development of a nuclear weapon, they would no doubt have tried to hold it over the head of other countries in the Middle East and more than likely kicked off a demand by other Middle East countries to develop their own nuclear arsenals.

You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. 😛

We certainly don’t want Iran to have a nuclear weapon. Which is why it is so astonishing that no president before had thought of trying to stop that, in an effective way since war would not be winnable. Say, via a deal.

If only Obama had done the hard work to get such a deal in place, after having the wisdom to realise that Iran would close the strait of Hormuz in case of an attack.

Oh, wait? You say he did? But then what? Trump by himself broke that deal? And now we have nothing?

Oh my. Why would Trump do something that silly?

NK next after Iran? Perhaps we can trade NK for Taiwan? With China’s help, we take NK, merge it with SK and Taiwan “agrees” to merge with China and truly become one country. Win/win for everyone.

if you are so convinced going after Iran is so obviously righteous and necessary, then please explain why Trump made NOT attacking Iran literally a cornerstone of his campaign and why cult members like you echoed what he said about not attacking Iran and how we need to not vote for Dems because they would get us involved in a war with Iran.

if what MAGA and the conservative media echo chamber now says about Iran is true, why didn’t Trump campaign on attacking Iran, instead on the opposite?

so please tell us what changed? because all the stuff you mentioned as reasons why attacking Iran makes sense existed long before Trump ran on a platform against attacking Iran.

nothing changed. you are just a puppet who will support whatever Trump does and says even if it’s the opposite of what he made you say 10 minutes before.

Trump is dumber than dogshit and he is the impediment to a deal being made.

a deal could have been made when Trump fucked it up and bombed the Supreme Leader, who issued a religious edict forbidding nuclear weapons. DURING THE NEGOTIATIONS.

a deal was already made in 2017 when Trump ripped it up.

A deal could still be made right now, there are IRGC members that will agree to a deal regarding nuke material as long as Iran controls the Strait, but its gonna take Trump shutting the fuck up for 30 days or so.

Trump wanted an armed confortation. he got what we wanted. nobody else in the world wanted this but BiBi.

I don’t find it unreasonable at all that people talk shit about it.

there’s a smattering of Trump supporters for a different view.

I dont know man. I think youre gonna have to get used to it. there 2 plus years left and he ain’t getting any better with his decision making.

Iran doesn’t get to keep the nuke materials, start work on redeveloping a nuke weapon OR to toll the Strait.

Easy peasy.

How long before a new record isn’t the question to ask, that’s easy, a few days. The real question to ask is how high will they go & for how long? $10, $15, $20? The price right now is nothing yet, it’s going a lot higher.

Do you think people will keep driving similar miles if/when it surpasses $10/gal? Some dualie drivers are going to be going from $200/month to $500 a month for gas before it’s over, I doubt all of them can and will pay the markup.

Then there’s the issue of diesel and long haul trucking

Natural Gas supplies are 20% gone also, the US derives most of their electricity from NG so electricity prices will not be immune, plus all those data centres, then add increasing export capacity every year through current projects.

Uber drivers will get killed like everyone else, they still gotta buy food, pay rents or mortgages etc.

There are zero winners in this stupid deranged behaviour.

That’s the whole point of higher prices isn’t it, to crush demand until it’s in line with supply. The price doesn’t stay low just to accommodate the sheeple, the price will rise until enough sheeple cut their consumption enough.

And any type of contractor work or city service.
garbage trucks and excavators and snow plows.
Then there is this.
UAE shut down their Aluminum smelter, second largest suplier in the world.
The Incident: Strikes on March 28, 2026, severely impacted the smelter, casthouse, and the site’s power plant.
The Damage: Because the smelting cells (potlines) operate continuously at extremely high temperatures, the power loss caused the aluminum inside the circuits to freeze solid.
Recovery Time: EGA has stated that recovering primary aluminum production to full capacity could take up to 12 months, as they need to physically clear the frozen metal and progressively rebuild the cells.
Supply & Market Impact: The facility’s 1.6 million tonne annual capacity accounts for roughly 2.5% of global primary aluminum production. The shutdown—compounded by the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz—has prompted EGA to declare force majeure on certain products and tightened global supply, causing LME aluminum futures to spike.
