Since Musk is a proven liar I am skeptical of anything he says.
However, proven liar does not imply he is lying this time. And perhaps he even has some of the key numbers correct, but the overall story is false, either on purpose because it sounds like something, or by accident
Let’s do a fact check to see if there is possibly a valid explanation for the numbers Musk is posting.

I disagree with automatic registration. We need new national laws to prevent this. But this is a known item Musk did not uncover anything.

Fact #4 Healthcare.Gov describes Coverage for Lawfully Present Immigrants.
Lawfully present immigrants can get Marketplace coverage and may qualify for premium tax credits and other savings on Marketplace plans.
The term “lawfully present” includes immigrants who have:
- “Qualified non-citizen” immigration status (see details below).

Immigrants and Medicaid & CHIP
If you’re a “qualified non-citizen,” you’re generally eligible for coverage through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), if you meet state income and residency rules.
To get Medicaid and CHIP coverage, many qualified non-citizens (such as many Lawful Permanent Residents, also known as LPRs or green card holders) have a 5-year waiting period. This means they must wait 5 years after getting “qualified” immigration status before they can get Medicaid and CHIP coverage. There are exceptions. Did Any Noncitizens Vote?
I don’t know, but any is too many.
So, I am a strong proponent of valid IDs, and no automatic registration.
DOGE Is Mostly Hype
Reasonable people can disagree with the above processes. But the Medicaid and Social Security rules are posted on official government sites.
Thus, there are reasonable and valid explanations for the numbers Musk posted.

Let’s discuss viral nonsense on alleged Social Security fraud and a simple explanation.
After decades of absurd claims regarding full self driving, accidentally firing the wrong people, and nonsensical claims about millions on people over the age of 100 collecting Social Security (see above link), I do not believe a damn thing this careless clown (or purposeful liar) says.
I further caution, that nearly everything Musk has uncovered has been a known issue.
However, I am in favor of fixing the issues noted above.
Finally, to the extent Musk puts a spotlight on issues, fine, but I a tired of his needless lies, exaggerations, and reckless processes.
Starting Tuesday morning for at least 30 hours, I will be in economic limbo. I have posts scheduled, and some very good ones, but I will not be current on news including liberation day.
I am on an overnight photography trip, Reflection Canyon Utah. Unfortunately, the weather sucks, at least that is the current forecast. But the trip is on.

Musk sent hundreds of thousands even millions into sanctuary cities which overwhelmed services and took monies from community projects so as to house illegals.
Musk sued State of Texas to stop it from following Federal Law to put up Border barriers to illegals.
Musk used Eagle Pass Texas as major port of entry to facilitate illegal crossings into U.S.
Musk did nothing when the illegals found out they could abuse squatter Law and take over properties owned by Taxpayers.
Musk tore down sections of the Border wall and sold off metal fencing for scrap.
This Musk guy is one evil son of a Bitch. He just does not follow the law at all.

These types of purposefully vague statements are politically powerful because I have found that a shocking number of people know very little about what rights immigrants have, whether they arrived legally or illegally. People who think they are staunch defenders of the Constitution fail to understand that many Constitutional rights apply to citizens and non-citizens alike.
There has been no attempt by Trump and the Republicans to rescind those rules. Why not? Secondly, they only apply to legal residents. So Musk is simply lying. But that’s okay. Most modern Republicans only respect liars.
It looks to me like the loopholes were in giving away “Asylum” and “Refugee” status without due process, and those loopholes ARE being closed. As with a lot of other things border-related, there’s no need to “change the rules”, just to properly follow the ones already out there.

In all European countries we have voter IDs, in Greece you need to provide two IDs when you vote (Voter ID and State ID Card). And it takes more time and money to issue them than it takes in the US (I was actually surprised when I came here with how fast and cheaply US authorities would issue IDs compared to European countries). Until late 1990s, we were required to carry our State ID Card with us at all times in Greece – not carrying it was a light offense (no penalty, but they could keep you in the precinct until a relative could verify your identity).
The first time I felt that the United States was becoming non-American, was Obamacare. It opened my eyes. It was the first time that the US was giving me far less options and less freedom than any European country. Since I worked in insurance in Europe, I could testify in Court with objective proof that after Obamacare, US citizens had less access to healthcare coverage than even citizens of the Soviet Union (at least theoretically).
When I expressed a possibility to return to Europe, a friend from France told me “you are a middle-aged male with a beard, so you’ll be ruling class here in the upcoming Caliphate“. That’s the stuff you should be photographing Mish, not lifeless landscapes.

What’s a “vote by mail slip” those of us who are registered and legally entitled to vote get a “ballot” in the mail.
I became citizen in 2009 in Philadelphia. They gave me an application for voting registration, to which I did not pay much attention, but it was prefilled with me registered as democrat. All the other new citizens, right there in the hall, were handed the same paper (all prefilled as such). Since I was very cautious of any associations, and politically neutral at the time, I didn’t sign it. Then I lost it somewhere.
I decided to vote for the first time in 2020 (in Illinois), just for the experience. They had a machine out of which my whole voting preferences appeared printed, in plain view (!!). The employee picked it up from the printer, looked at it, and placed it on a pile. I never voted again.

DOGE’s juvenile fiscal vandalism has turned into a major obstacle for achieving serious fiscal consolidation. He already got caught in the Cobol-programming lie which anyone who even programmed an Apple 2 in the 1980s knows that you have to put in dummy records to test your computer program. For some reason with Cobol programming language, a bunch of their dummy records had year 1850 birth years (150 year old beneficiaries). Simple explanation that he turned into a political talking point. Now he’s suggesting that illegal aliens (another political talking point — designed to make old ladies mad all day and all night) got SS benefits, we assume deposited in the bank accounts they cant get cause they are illegal. More nonsense from the gang who cant shoot straight
Also, the illegal immigrants have had fica pulled from their checks. Adding a great deal of money to social security. On top of that…they can’t draw on those contributions. Getting rid of illegal immigrants will cancel their contributions… once again, another nail in the coffin of social security. This issue with illegal immigrants is bigger than most people know. Forget about stealing jobs that no Americans want to do…for the powers that be, crushing social security is their goal.

Soc Sec is a Ponzi scheme that won’t work with a shrinking base. I’ve thought all along that was a primary driver of why our illustrious government encouraged illegal immigration plus the added benefit of future Democratic party voters. If our culture and family unit along with our war hawk elected officials and out of control Federal Reserve hadn’t ruined things we might not be having this discussion. Time for a drink.

Social security can work with any population base, even a gradually declining one, provided the tax rate and benefits formulas are set appropriately.
P.S. The population carrying capacity of the United States is far higher than the current population. No reason to assume population decline scenarios other than blind ideology.
Your simple explanation is not so simple. Were they using cobol a couple of hundred years ago? Did they create millions of dummy records? Did they keep creating them year after year? Are they marked in some way as being a dummy account? And what exactly is the scandal in drawing attention to presence of millions of accounts being carried on the books that are flagrantly false but are still there anyway?
How can you be so sure that not one of those one hundred and fifteen year olds are receiving benefit checks long after they passed and their caregivers with authority to manage their affairs are pocketing the money.
If you can get a social security number why can’t you get a bank account?
They are no dummy records. The issue is with the value that was chosen to represent the concept of a blank or unknown in date fields (within an otherwise bone-fide record). Such a value representing blank or unknown is necessary because there is no such thing as a Null date in COBOL.
