Netanyahu is Really in Trouble and There’s No Simple Solution

Tensions mount in Israel’s war cabinet as Benny Gantz, the chief political rival to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, plan to visit D.C.

At War With Itself

The Wall Street Journal reports Netanyahu’s War Cabinet Is at War With Itself

Fearing a breakdown in ties between the White House and Israel over the war in Gaza, Benny Gantz, chief political rival to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a minister in his wartime cabinet, planned a trip to Washington.

“There’s only one prime minister,” Netanyahu told Gantz, who defied the prime minister and met with Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday.

The move by Gantz to pursue the trip to Washington came days after the third member of the wartime cabinet, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, demanded the government pass legislation to draft ultra-Orthodox men into the army—a move widely seen as one that could topple Netanyahu’s coalition that relies on two ultra-Orthodox political parties.

The three men are a team of rivals, each with their own bitter back story of gripes and slights against each other. Each also has their own political ambitions, with most polls showing Gantz would likely trounce Netanyahu if elections were held today.

“In inviting Benny Gantz to the White House, the administration is sending an unmistakable signal of unhappiness with Benjamin Netanyahu, concerns that he may no longer be the reliable predictable partner that the U.S. needs,” said Aaron David Miller, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and former U.S. Mideast negotiator.

Both Gantz and Gallant, former senior generals, are pushing for policies supported by the security establishment but opposed by many in Netanyahu’s hard-right and religious coalition. The two have publicly pressed Netanyahu to come up with a plan for who should govern Gaza after the war, and Gantz has joined Gallant in pushing the prime minister to enlist ultra-Orthodox men into the military.

Both are issues that could bring down the prime minister’s coalition. Netanyahu’s coalition, the most right-wing, religious and ultranationalist in the country’s history, includes lawmakers who flatly reject U.S. plans for a reformed Palestinian Authority to take over in the Gaza Strip.

“There’s no simple solution here,” said Gideon Rahat, a professor of politics at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. “Netanyahu is really in trouble.”

Biden Announces Airdrop of Humanitarian Aid

U.S. to Deliver Aid to Gaza Through Military Airdrops

Politico reports Gaza Airdrop Has Begun

The 38,000 meals were sent into Gaza just days after the United Nations raised the alarm, saying that nearly one quarter of Palestinians are a mere “one step away” from famine.

The 38,000 meals were sent into Gaza just days after the United Nations raised the alarm, saying that nearly one quarter of Palestinians — 576,000 people — are a mere “one step away” from famine, and all 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza have “woefully inadequate” food supplies.

Famine

One quarter of Gaza’s population, roughly 576,000 people, are near famine.

I am always skeptical of UN reports, but this one rings true. Even if that is half true, it’s an epic disaster.

Please note the math. The US delivered 38,000 meals to 576,000 people.

Don’t expect the miracle of loaves and fishes to be in play.

No Simple Solution

Netanyahu’s days are numbered for many reasons. But there is no simple solution no matter who is Prime Minister.

Polarization has increased in the US, Israel, everywhere. There are no magic answers.

Netanyahu has dragged Israel from bad to worst… a country with very few friends now has zero real friends. What (little) support Israel receives going forward will come from political/private FACTIONS w/in now openly hostile countries. When those factions INEVITABLY lose control of (US govt.) budget pursestrings, it’s over for Israel.
Israel will not survive w/o REAL friends. Mere factions (think-tank warriors) swimming in hostile international waters will not be enough to keep Israel afloat, period.

Netanyahu will be toppled, and Trump’s second term will serve as a (moderate) political reset w/in Israeli domestic politics, imo. Netanyahu is HATED w/in Israel. He will not last much longer.
Yes, Trump is going to win in November.
The Dem-majority Senate will refuse to certify the election. SCOTUS will eventually force certification. Thereafter we can expect 1) an implosion of center-Left Democratic base/establishment, 2) a populist takeover of GOP operations & policy, and 3) a series of constitutional crises (incl. election fraud) will dominate US politics for at least 4-5 years… very messy, and will also compliment a renewed, non-interventionist withdrawal from the US’s expired role as GlobalPolice/Occupier/SugarDaddy/DenMother.

My Fellow Palestinians: Stop Blaming the Jews—Hamas Is Starving Our Brothers and Sisters in Gaza
Published Mar 05, 2024 at 7:22 AM EST

How can we understand the terrible, self-imposed deprivation now gripping the people of Gaza? The heart-wrenching stampede that unfolded in Gaza last Thursday casts a stark light on the brutal reality of life under Hamas rule. It is a somber reminder of the urgent need to address the suffering of Gaza’s people, but it also serves as a crucial moment to clarify the accountability for Gaza’s plight.

The chaos and desperation that led to this tragedy are direct outcomes of Hamas’s governance, which prioritizes violence and killing Jews over the welfare of its population. The stampede, occurring during an aid distribution, tragically underscores the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Driven by sheer desperation, people found themselves in a deadly crush, a situation that should never occur.

To pave the way for peace and stability for my brothers and sisters in Gaza, it is essential to acknowledge the root causes of their suffering. Hamas’s diversion of resources, suppression of dissent, and neglect of civilian needs must end. The international community, along with the Palestinian people, must demand accountability and seek a future where governance prioritizes human dignity, economic opportunity, and peaceful coexistence. Only through addressing these fundamental issues can we hope to prevent such tragedies and build a brighter future for all Palestinians.

As a Palestinian human rights activist deeply sympathetic to the plight of the Palestinian people and the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I can tell you beyond the shadow of a doubt that the terrorist group Hamas is responsible for the suffering of Gazans.

Bibi bets that Hamas will Antifa during the Ramadan, starting on Mar 10. He ordered Galant to ease econ conditions in the west bank and to allow them to pray in Al Aqsa without limitations. During the Ramadan Muslims fast all day for one month. The war with Hamas was basically over two months ago. The IDF destroyed them as a military entity. They became a dispersed terrorist group as they were few decades ago. Bibi never tried to assassinate Nasrallah. They respect and understand each other, but he killed his grandson last week. Israel & Lebanon can reach an agreement with a few minor border corrections.
Bibi bets that a ceasefire 8 months before the Nov election is too early. For him and his supporters Benny Gantz is a traitor. He outsmart PM Ehud Barak, PM Olmert, PM Lapid and Liberman. He bet that the Saudis, king Hussein and Al Sisi enjoy what he isdoing to Hamas.
He speaks fluent English.

If they didn’t have no many kids, they wouldn’t have as many hungry mouths to feed. Pregnancy is an industry in Gaza.

Hamas paid for each new baby, just as governments here pay welfare mothers additional $$ for each new baby they pop out, with the idea that eventually, a huge increase in Palestinians would bust through Israelis border walls.

But now, with Hamas losing power, the $$ cash flows from Qatar and other Arab countries shut down and the UNRWA defunded, reality should be coming home to these people as they realize that they can’t feed all their extra mouths without constant handouts.

Woe is them.

Fox News is relentless in the border coverage. 60 Minutes had a segment on it Sunday night.

The southern border needs to be locked down and ALL migrants turned around and sent back. The 8 million or so that have entered in the last few years need to be deported back to their countries of origin.

Living in California has jaded me on this border stuff. I’ve watched right wing politicians in California whip up the rabble over the brown wave of illegal immigrants while at the same time hiring them in their and their financial backers business which in California was agriculture and apparel manufacturing over the last 50+ years. In fact 3 times anybody with brown skin that looked Mexican where rounded up and thrown back across the border between 1900 and 1950 here in California. Yes I would like to see the border secured but I’m not going to let a fascist rabble rousing right winger scapegoat the brown people from the south while at the same time they and their financial backers actually support the lowered labor costs that come with this illegal immigration by hiring illegals. I refuse to be manipulated for politician’s political gain but on the flip side the current resident of the White House should have been in front of this at the beginning of his tenure.

Netanyahu in trouble? Really? First, he has greater control of Congress than Biden does. He can ignore the White House. They aren’t going to do anything and certainly not withhold weapons. Pelosi once said that they would support Israel even if the Capitol was in ruins. In effect, the US is a vassal of Israel.

Second, OK, Netanyahu might be the only one who can assemble a coalition as PM, regardless of how unpopular he is.

Jojo

I disagree. You are listening to the wrong reports. Netanyahu’s coalition remains strong and will for the duration of the war. It is so strong that they can continue to expand Israelis settlements in the West Bank despite the wishes of Biden, Blinken and most of the western world. Here’s a recent article:

Israel Announces New West Bank Settlement Expansion in Defiance of White House

by Kyle Anzalone | Feb 29, 2024

Israel approved the building of 3,600 Israeli homes in a new West Bank settlement. The announcement came just days after Secretary of State Antony Blinken declared the settlements were inconsistent with international law. Tel Aviv routinely ignores Washington’s requests to curtail its oppressive treatment of Palestinians without an impact on the billions in aid the US provides to Israel each year.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich approved the new Jewish homes on Palestinian land south of Jerusalem on Tuesday. “We will continue the momentum of settlement throughout the country,” he said. Smotrich has denied the existence of the Palestinian people and called for the segregation of maternity wards.

The approval of the settlement is a snub to the White House, as last week Blinken reinstated a pre-Donald Trump policy of viewing Israeli settlements in the West Bank as inconsistent with international law.

Israel has run a trade deficit since the late 1960s. It cannot sustain its current standard of living without massive cash inflows each year and probably central ban intervention to support the Shekel. The hatred of Netanyahu and Israel by a good part of the world threatens to undermine the support of foreign governments.

Bribery, blackmail and lobbying only goes so far.

Israel Balance of Trade

Israel has been recording trade deficits since 1959 mostly due to a lack of natural resources. Indeed, Israel major imports are: oil and other mineral fuels and uncut diamonds. Main exports are: cut diamonds, pearls and other precious metals and stones; electrical machinery and equipment, mechanical machinery and appliances and electronics. Israel´s main trading partner is the United States (28 percent of total exports and 12 percent of imports). Others include: Hong Kong, China, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany and United Kingdom.

OTOH, THe US also runs a large trade deficit:

For 2023, the goods and services deficit was $773.4 billion, down $177.8 billion from $951.2 billion in 2022. Exports were $3,053.5 billion, up $35.0 billion from 2022. Imports were $3,826.9 billion, down $142.7 billion from 2022.

So, Israel, a country with a population of 9 million has to sustain a standing military and the latest weapons in the face of potential daily attacks from more than 3 billion Muslims who would like it to no longer exist. If you look at a map of the area, Israel is so small in land mass that it is difficult to see.

But the poor Palestinians are so “oppressed” that they can afford to spend hundreds of $millions on weapons and cement for their tunnels. But, guess who is the largest contributor in the world to the UNRWA? The US government to the tune of $343 million in 2022. Is it still flowing there? Of course it is, there isn’t a country in the world that doesn’t qualify for US $$ handouts.

In 2022, China pledged $1 million to the Palestinians, and Russia $2 million. Of course, Iran gives Hamas $millions as well as weapons. Where did Iran get some of that $$? The good ole US of A.

Just to keep things in perspective, we gave Israel $3.3 billion in 2022. We now give them bombs and ammunition to kill Palestinians while we give the Palestinians (Hamas) $millions to fight Israel.

We have so much $$, we can just piss it down the leg of anyone with a pulse overseas. Will someone make it make sense?

There are myriad reasons why a Palestinian state is a non sequitur and will never happen.

Palestine is dead: No one will ever be able to make a Palestinian state

By MICHAEL FREUND

February 24, 2024

In recent weeks, various leaders of Western countries have publicly broached the idea of the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state, asserting that the time has come to give the Palestinians independence, even in the absence of a negotiating process.

UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron and more recently French President Emmanuel Macron have floated this suggestion, despite the ongoing war in Gaza.

But what these esteemed statesmen have apparently failed to grasp is that the very idea of a Palestinian state is no longer geographically viable, morally acceptable, or even politically tolerable to the overwhelming majority of Israelis.

Simply put, the idea of “Palestine” is dead and buried, and no matter how hard they may try, Western politicians will never be able to revive it.

MUST-SEE VIDEO: Why Muslim nations don’t want ‘Palestinians’

By Andrea Widburg

One of the things the left is desperately downplaying as it demands that Israel allow Hamas and its supporters to go unpunished and, ideally, cede to the Arabs the entire land of Israel is the fact that the surrounding Arab nations are refusing to take Gazans in as refugees. The reason is that nobody wants these “Palestinian” Arabs who have proven to be as destructive to Arab nations as they are to Israel.

Egypt is having difficulty taking care of its current population economically. As with too many Arab countries, there are too many children (33% of Egypts population was under the age of 14 in 2022).

Arab men use their woman as baby producing machines. The more children they have, the more virile they are considered, even if they can’t adequately feed or care for a large family.

The UN should dump condoms and birth control pills from planes every month on them.

These countries will never become economically self-sufficient until they get control of their population growth.
