The Warmongering WSJ Editorial Board Wants to Re-Fight the Vietnam War

In a convoluted post on Israel, the WSJ moans about Democrats voting against Vietnam war funding.

Past Betrayals

Please consider The House Vote on Israel Echoes Past Betrayals

The vote by 103 House Democrats on Wednesday to block U.S. arms to Israel as it fights a multifront war is a shocking abandonment of an ally. It’s a sign of the rapid conquest of the Democratic Party by its anti-Israel wing, and it echoes another betrayal half a century ago—in Vietnam.

The measure to strip Israel of all aid—humanitarian and military, offensive and defensive—was offered by the isolationist Republican Thomas Massie of Kentucky.

All of this echoes the sad denouement of the Vietnam War, when Democrats fought for years to cut off funds for South Vietnam, restricted U.S. aid, and denied its pleas for help in 1975. The North Vietnamese Communist offensive overran the South, sending more than a million “boat people” into the open ocean.

The political momentum is growing against Israel, even if Israelis depose Prime Minister Netanyahu in their October election. This movement thinks Israel is evil while Palestinian terrorists are victims.

Mercy!

Anyone now arguing we should have wasted more money on Vietnam has an empty hole where a brain should be.

It was bad enough to be begging for more Vietnam war funding at the time. It’s truly insane to be arguing that case today.

Israel Strawman

Some of us are against war and meddling, period. And History has proven us right about Vietnam, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, and now Iran.

The Editorial board at the WSJ has not found a war it does not support, even Vietnam and Afghanistan after the fact.

As for Israel not violating US laws, what a joke.

Pressure Builds Over Israel’s Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners

Please note Pressure Builds Over Israel’s Treatment of Palestinian Prisoners

Auditors from Israel’s Ministry of Justice and United Nations agencies later found that detainees were subjected to beatings, particularly during transfers and searches, and starvation. Autopsies of some Palestinians who died in custody showed signs of physical assault, medical neglect and malnutrition. Doctors and rights groups described instances of sexual violence.

In addition to those reports, The Wall Street Journal interviewed a dozen Palestinians released from Israeli prisons since 2024, mostly as part of ceasefire agreements with Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization. All said they experienced physical abuse, such as being bound in stress positions and beaten, and severe hunger. Two men said they were sexually assaulted in front of other prisoners.

“Every day, three times a day, someone was being beaten,” said Iyad Omar, 44, one of the men held in Lavi (formerly known as Ketziot), who had been imprisoned since 2002 and was convicted of attempted murder. “This kind of thing never happened before Oct. 7. Back then, we only faced this type of abuse if there was a hunger strike or a riot.”

Physicians for Human Rights Israel, an Israeli medical-advocacy nonprofit that monitors prisons, said it has visited 59 detainees since February, with all reporting insufficient food and medical treatment.

Israel already faces international criticism over its military activities in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as for rising attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank.

Recent Pew Research Center surveys have found deteriorating views of Israel in countries worldwide. This month, it said 62% of U.S. adults viewed the Israeli government unfavorably, up from 43% in 2022.

In May, the U.N. added Israel to a list of countries it says has committed sexual violence in warzones, citing violations, including rapes, of Palestinian detainees. Israel said it “has comprehensively, thoroughly, and unequivocally refuted these allegations” and would end relations with the U.N. secretary-general’s office.

Last month, Israel’s High Court ruled that the ban on Red Cross visits to detainees violates international and Israeli law. The visits haven’t resumed, despite the ruling. Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet, had warned in 2024 that prison conditions could violate the U.N. convention against torture and called for greater Red Cross access.

Israel’s High Court also ruled last year that the state failed to meet detainees’ basic needs, after a petition from civil-society groups accused the government of starving them.

In the highest-profile case, five military reservists were indicted over the alleged assault of a Palestinian detainee held without charge in 2024 at the Sde Teiman military detention facility, a camp where some new detainees were taken before being transferred into Israel’s prison system. The indictment said the detainee was blindfolded, shackled and severely beaten, resulting in injuries including seven broken ribs and an inner rectal tear. The reservists denied the allegations.

One doctor who reviewed the patient’s medical records told the Journal in 2024 that the injuries were life-threatening, involved “obvious signs of assault,” and required a blood transfusion and rectal surgery.

The Journal also reviewed postmortem examination reports of a dozen Palestinians who died during detention since the start of the 2023 Gaza war. The Israeli government hasn’t released official autopsies or causes of death for the Palestinian detainees. In some cases, however, it has permitted a physician on behalf of the family to attend the autopsy and provide a postmortem report.

One, viewed by the Journal, involved a 45-year-old man who died in December 2024. The report said he showed signs of physical assault and excessive use of restraints on his wrists and ankles.

Apparently, the editorial board does not even read its own front page articles. Alternatively it does not give a damn.

Q: Israel aside, who is stupid enough to now be moaning we did not spend more money fighting Vietnam?
A: The WSJ editorial board.

I am proud to have been against involvement in Vietnam, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. And I was right every time.

I am prepared to add Greenland to the list.

Who are the peace candidates? Who in the media or new podcast world is advocating explicitly for peace? If there are any, what are their recommendations to work towards it?

So, that’s one. And Ron Paul is about 100 years old (I’m from Houston, so, knew Ron Paul back before time, haha).

But, I seriously NEVER see any candidate, regardless of party, advocating loudly, and sincerely, for peace. Yet every person I speak with, regardless of party, about my sincere beliefs of the out and out benefits of peace, always agree with me, but, also, kind of mock the idea, and think I’m naive for even thinking about it.

We, as a public, are so brainwashed into hating some “other”, yet, the majority of us actually want peace.

I find it strange that no politician can actually tap into that and make a serious run at something (congress or the presidency)

Perhaps that is because just being for “peace” is so unrealistic and vague?

I think you should be against government. Government is successful organized crime. That may not seem to tell you any more than being “for peace,” but it does focus on the sort of people who get us into unnecessary wars.

You may not be able to eliminate governments any more than you can eliminate wars, but you can at least understand what they are.

As I have said before, they are always made up of soldiers, who live by force and the threat of force (some of them should perhaps be called bravos rather than soldiers); and priests, who live by deception. The religion in the modern West is “education.” (Priests have to have a religion that has some degree of credibility, and since the publication of ‘The Origin of Species,’ Christianity can’t make it any more.)

I have tried multiple times to provide media sources that advocate for peace, but every attempt says “Awaiting for approval”, which is of course grammatically incorrect. Should be “Waiting for approval” or “Awaiting approval”, but AI is not capable of using English properly.

I pointed this out here as bullish for the refiners back on June 2, 2026. Since then the group is up ~50%+ (E.g. PBF).
“Have you seen how Refined Fuels is setting up? We don’t have the excess capacity for making up Global Outages. Exporting 8% to 14% of Weekly Production.

Will Dumb Donald cut back fuel exports (by tariffs or fiat) as we go through 20-Days/Inventory (likely next month)?

Since it won’t rebalance soon if we don’t get proactive on exports rationing by price could get quite painful. Global refining and slow rebalancing will make fuel (potentially – but I think so) more painful than oil. And painful to the mkts too.

Every premise and reason to be long this trade had only raced higher ever since. Heckle and Jeckle, US and Iran, are busy destroy long term energy assets, and their IMPORTANT CAPACITY all the time now. And will take months, if not years, to repair and rebuild – WHEN AND IF enough stability and financing returns to do so.

This trade is a jackboot right on the throat of the global macro risk right now.

Only difference is Heckle has more brains than Trump:

WSJ’s opinion and editorials have always been toadying to the most barn-burning fashionable “conservatism” of the day. So it was fiercely market-fundamentalist and globalist before that went semi-out of fashion. But it has some pretty good factual articles and does confront Trump (surprisingly, given Murdoch’s presence), sometimes breaking stories to do so. It has a sober voice sometimes when other media is itself caught up in hysteria in a different direction.

Vietnam weakened us financially and culturally, and in global credibility and soft power too, at historic scale. So too the “Global War on Terror.” Only GHW Bush since the mid-20th century had the brains to do a shooting war right, with suitable restraint. (He managed to juggle Russia too, of course imperfectly but not sparking off existential. global conflict.) But all that bothered stupid people because it was not a movie style total “victory.”
The too-comfortable (and dividend-glutted) are always gung ho.

These war mongers are also Control Freaks. Absolutely ZERO respect for letting OTHER SOVERIGN CITIZENS THE SAME RIGHTS THESE CONTROL FREAKS HAVE IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.

Not to mention it’s not much of a sales pitch to foresably JAM OUTSIDE POLICIES down their throat.

I say lets cut to the chase on the why. We ALL like social confirmation of our thoughts and beliefs. But not all are confident and content if others do not buy your dogma. It’s really that these are often feeble insecure type people acting out the Dunning-Krueger effect. Whch is why DK exists. I’m not saying all of them, but really, trying to force your views on others; others whose consequences have ZERO EFFECT on these control freaks. I think acceptance of others is requisite social maturity.

On that front may I say I have long called racism and discrimination “Intellectual laziness” at it’s core. It’s a simple minded attempt at superiority to think you can [even if just in your mind] think you’re better b/e your not like this or that person. No, you’re just trying to write them off without spending any real effort to get to know them and where they are coming from. Intelectual Laziness. Try acceptance without judgement.

And call off your insatiable Military Industrial Complex.

Amen, Mish. You could add the grotesque bombing of Serbia under Clinton to your list of stupid US wars. It doesn’t matter which wing of the Uniparty gets elected; the Empire’s war machine is in charge.

Furthermore, how could one discuss this topic and ignore that more than 70,000 Gazans and Lebanese have been murdered by the Israelis–probably closer to 100,000? A majority women and children. Paid for by US taxpayers!

Implying that the Bosnian genocide, particularly Srebrenica, was carried out by Milosevic alone, is like saying the Gaza genocide was carried out by Netanyahu alone. Ridiculous, many, many people were involved in these war crimes. While Milosevic was tried by the International Court of Justice, Netanyahu has been indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, but they have so far been unable to capture him and bring him to trial. Trump has put sanctions on the prosecutors, judges, and staff of the ICC because of their efforts.

There were a lot of war crimes, including ones carried out by Croats and the KLN, Serbs were often the victims. The story is not simple, but it is important to remember that the Serbs were traditionally allied to Russia, and everything has always been about getting Russia, at least since 1853 — First “Coalition of the Willing”. American invasion of Russia, who even remembers? [1918-20 Arkhangelsk & Vladivostok]

Dismantling of relatively prosperous and unaligned Yugoslavia was a CIA project for years before the seams cracked and civil war (whose arms?) broke out. Co-incidentally, the largest US military base in Europe in Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo, a country the USA conjured into being.

We would have used the tools that had been built up over a century of struggle and harsh experience, but Great Leader (and his partner) trashed all that. What’s funny is that people NOW comprehend the level of lying that happened in the Vietnam War, but they don’t seem to think the EXACT SAME degree of lying is happening now. Any/all damage done to Israel by Iran, for example is HEAVILY censored under severe penalties. The number of US casualties since February 2026 is being totally suppressed. Are we still at 13? LOL. We’ll find out in 20-30 years. Same thing with Ukrainian casualties. The ratio of Ukrainian deaths to Russian deaths is being reversed in the US media and defies all logic.

In April 2019, while speaking about his time heading the CIA, Pompeo publicly stated: “I was the CIA director. We lied, we cheated, we stole. It was like we had entire training courses.”

“We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false” – attributed to CIA Director Wm Casey.

The incidents catalogued here are the tip of the iceberg.

The IDF (and Israeli society) takes pleasure in killing infants while suckling at their mother’s breast. They play the voice of a baby crying from drones to lure children on their balcony to shoot. They purposely have Bingo target practice contests on children, aiming at selected body parts on different days.

They are worse sadists and much less disciplined than the SS.
Only the upsurge of modern media publicity acts as a brake.

Israel could have taken a very different path. It could have worked closely with native Palestinians to help them build healthy businesses. They could have invited them to invest in modern industrial plants. They could have helped them build schools, hospitals and all of the modern niceties of life. They could have built a relationship of working together. Instead they built a war and prison civilization where the population no longer sees non-Jews as humans. Sadly, Israel failed.

The same can be said about funding the NATO war against Russia by the Ukraine, on both sides of the Atlantic.

“And History has proven us right about Vietnam, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, and now Iran…”

… and the Ukraine.

5 downvoters (so far) still believe American propaganda. I’ve been watching this low grade aggression against Russia coming since 1991. Like a slow but unstoppable train accident. With the Ukraine, we played “let’s you and him fight”. In 2010 the population of the country was overwhelmingly in favor of maintaining close economic ties with Russia. After a steady diet of Western propaganda we “manufactured consent” (Chomsky) for a war against ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine. As Lloyd Austin admitted, the U.S.-instigated war was to “weaken Russia”. And psychopaths like Lindsey Graham gleefully pretended to be “helping” Ukraine while getting them to fight “to the last Ukrainian”.

Started even earlier.
CIA predecessor took over Nazi Galen spy network.
Had ties with the UPA, encouraging separatism.
Hundreds of thousands died in the attempt to stamp out Banderism in the forties and early fifties. Canadians onboarded Ukrainian diaspora, as did the US. The veto for good Ukrainians was if they had SS tattoos it meant they were good (non Communist).

I am a subscriber to the WSJ and have read it, and Barrons, since 1978. Yikes.

While the takeover by Fox has resulted in some weaker reporting and writing, I think it’s usually pretty good.

EXCEPT regarding US spending on war. According to the WSJ, every dollar earned by every American needs to be delivered to the Military-Industrial Complex.

And ALWAYS to fight the last war, or the one before that.

If I hear Kate Bachelder Odell.ramble on and on about a 400 ship Navy and another (or ten) carrier groups, I will lose my mind.

Hey Kate. The government is bankrupt. When the Treasury loses a bid, Guatemala could march on Washington.

You’d think the WSJ was controlled by defense contractors

Wait. What?

War spikes government spending which increases Wall Street’s profits. That’s all you need to know about the WSJ.

Calling Israel an “ally” is a bit of a stretch. The US is more of a convenient associate to hide behind. The problem, of course, is the inability to differentiate true anti-semetism (originally not just Jews) with actions applied to the government of Israel.

USA and Israel function in many ways, legally and strategically, as offshore islands for each other. It is a Mutt and Jeff sort of play: point at the other guy while sneaking something from one pocket to another.

Why does Israel need our money anyway? Aren’t we fighting Iran for them on our own dime now? (And yes, the Palestinians are victims. Glad the WSJ asked.)
