The possession of a Conceal carry permit does not give you the right to break laws while carrying. The training the holders get is very clear on avoiding conflict and deescalation. Taking a gun to a protest or confrontation with police is a death wish and ever permit holder knows that. I have 0 sympathy for this unwise individual. There is no such thing as white privilege when confronting police with a weapon (knife, car, gun, bat, etc.). I have 0 sympathy for him, he should have known better.

lol, 15 people online railing about this isn’t most 2a supporters, but i can see how it would seem that way…. if you live online and don’t talk with anyone.

This moron had every right to carry. He had the right to be a moron. He did not have the right to interfere with LEOs.

Just because you have the right to do something doesn’t mean it’s a good choice. That some don’t understand this is remarkable. Mass stupidity has overtaken rational thinking and good judgement.

That moment when the Donald convinces freedom loving, small government conservatives to support a police state.

This is an old ploy. The goal is that the Donald will amass personal power by inciting an ethos of violence, which is not too hard in the US, by splitting the populace into factions, not necessarily into open civil war, sufficing to establish the mood.

FWIW, the Gestapo like ICE excites the Donald’s base. Many MAGA adherents are disillusioned and offer only partial and qualified support, stopping at the wanton aggressiveness and violence stateside and abroad. But the small radical MAGA base seems quite ignited by owning the libs at the level of a pistol to the back of the neck while kneeling.

As Hitler showed, his Brown Shirts were enough to shut up opposing voices. He was elected with a minority of some 30% of the votes, but he had amassed personal power in prior years disproportional to the vote count, thanks to the terror campaign by the SA, in the party and at large. The rest is history, rhyming yet again.

The GOP is dead. It has been taken over by the MAGA trailer park crowd. We now have to create a real conservative party. This will give the Democrats a strong advantage for a few election cycles, but it must be done if the nation is to ever have a long-term future. The goal will have to be to split the Democrats too. Bring in reasonable, moderate Democrats. As the rest of the Democratic party moves further to the left, the more moderate ones will join with conservatives. It can be done, we just need a well-known, respected (by both parties) conservative to lead the effort.

Our two party system is a result of how our voting system works. Only one person can win a vote and ends up representing an entire district. This style of voting always leads to a two-party system. Here’s an idea: Take 3 adjacent voting districts and make them one. But send the top 3 vote getters from the district to Congress. Changes everything.

The police carry a round in the chamber. Almost all firearm training teaches to carry a round in the chamber. I have a CCW license in California (where it is relatively more difficult to obtain than in most other states) and all the classroom training and the range training supported a round in the chamber. In fact if you didn’t have a round in the chamber one would find it difficult to pass the range test where you were timed with a holstered handgun to hit within the target a certain number of rounds at different distances.

This Is the End

Putinism abroad always morphs into Putinism at home. And we chose this path. Why? Because something-something the price of eggs.

Jonathan V. Last

Jan 20, 2026

One year ago today Donald Trump was sworn in as president and the American-led global order that had structured world affairs since 1945 ended. The world did not realize this reality at the time.

Europeans thought they could bargain with Trump to maintain the status quo.

Russia thought it could manipulate Trump to get Ukraine.

China thought it could use Trump’s weakness to finally grasp Taiwan.

None of these power centers appreciated that Trump, the Republican party, and the American people were about to demolish the entire geo-strategic balance in an unprecedented act of national self-mutilation.

We don’t need to recapitulate the events of the last year. We’ve all seen them. Instead, let’s talk about the new world that is forming, today, as we speak.

Disagree. Hypocrisy tells us more about people than just about any action they might take. Hypocrisy shows us who people really are, so we know how to judge their comments in the future. The second someone shows hypocrisy on an issue, you can know they are either a liar or an idiot, and treat them accordingly.

In the realm of American politics regarding Democrats and Republicans, I agree that hypocrisy arguments are usually ridiculous. When the parties switch sides on an issue, which happens often, they always point the finger at the other side and scream hypocrisy. The part they never mention is their own party’s hypocrisy on the exact same issue. Happens over and over again.

Principled people don’t change their views because ‘the other side’ suddenly uses that view to support their position.

I agree, you can never go wrong voting for someone who is principled and has integrity. The myth that voting for someone who is neither D or R is ‘throwing away your vote’ is silly. Your vote only makes a difference in a Presidential election if it changes the vote in your state AND if the change in your state’s electoral votes (resulting from your vote) changes the national vote. The odds are similar to winning the lottery AND getting struck by lightning simultaneously. Just vote for who you believe in.

I wonder if people can agree on some simple basic things ?

  1. Pretti’s shooting was a travesty that should never have happened
  2. Pretti was allowed to carry a gun to a protest demonstration
  3. ICE is not exemplary for fine wise officers of the peace
  4. Sanctuary cities defy federal jurisdiction
  5. Interfering with law enforcement makes you an accessory to any crime committed by an arrestee
  6. Harboring and abetting illegal aliens is prohibited by American law

So it seems to me more or less a matter of fact & law that all 6 statements are true.
Can people keep all 6 in their thoughts without becoming agitated and defensive?

Anthony
Anthony

Reply to  Webej

No 4 isn’t true. They aren’t defying federal jurisdiction. they are simply not affirmatively aiding operations, as is the right of states under our system of federalism. the legit argument is local law enforcement wants illegal aliens to talk to them, to be witnesses and report crimes without worrying that they’ll be deported. if a migrant gets robbed, if a migrant’s wife gets beaten up, local law enforcement wants them to report the crimes.

And 5 is true, but in practice there is vagueness as to what “interference” means. ICE, and law enforcement usually, thinks things like videotaping them, or protesting as they are carrying out raids is “interfering”. it’s not.

and 2 is true, but not a good idea. it’s not a good idea to bring a loaded gun to a volatile protest. it’s pointless. One guy can’t defend himself against dozens of ICE agents with bullet proof vests, many of them with rifles. so if you can’t use it for self defense, why bring it? it wasn’t a good idea for Kyle Rittenhouse either.

You lost me as soon as you used the term, “allowed to carry”.
It is legal for him to carry and he does not have to obtain permission based on where he’s going or what he’s doing. This is where your entire argument starts to unravel.

If I am legally carrying a gun down the street and six ice vehicles stop in front of me and they all jump out brandishing their weapons…
Am I obstructing Justice?
Am I at a protest?
Am I interfering with the police?

Mind you, I was there first and all I was doing was walking down the street.

Based on the rhetoric from the administration, I believe the answer is that, if I were to be shot it would be obviously in self-defense because I am a radical domestic terrorist who’s walking home from the corner store.

I notice the very mature and introspective supporters of illegal immigration, violence against law enforcement, and rewriting of the English language to change the meanings of words are now relying on cajoling and song lyrics. So impressive. Don’t forget to reread The Communist Manifesto and Rules for Radicals as a primer for your beliefs and actions.

When you left wing anarchist arses find your brain again, try being quiet for a while and studying how our system of governance is intended to work. Even read the Constitution if it helps you understand.

First, we have sovereignty, which means a border and the right to decide who can enter our country. So do all the other countries on this planet.

Second, any act of violence against law enforcement can get you shot through and through. Stop crying about it, and f off. If you don’t want to get shot, start defending the law instead of breaking it.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. God bless America.

I have heard this thing you said so many times it is a cliche, coming across like Democrat talking points parrotted by ABC,CBS,NBC,CNN, New York Times, Washington Post, Gannett, etc.

But what do you know about Jesus Christ? Have you read the bible at all? The truth is all in there, including the words that Jesus spoke.

If you don’t know him, then I would suggest you not talk about him.

By the way, the Jews formed a nexus with the Roman empire and conspired to kill Jesus. This was unusual, considering how much the Jews hated the Romans. But the Jews hated Jesus even more because he exposed their hypocrisy and he threatened their fraudulent hold on power. (study the Pharasees of the era that Jesus lived in).

I am happy to say they failed. 3 days after they cruficied Jesus, he was up walking around again. He proved to the world who he really was.

It does make you wonder why someone would bring a gun to this protest. And plenty of ammo. I could see packing a pistol with a mag full. For all the reasons I applied, trained and got licensed. And if I believe in the 2nd, I must support his right to carry….even to the protests. I don’t think I’d have done the same, but I don’t agree with the motives and I’m not there.

Did the man “pull’ or in any way threaten the agents? If so, why? What next?

If he did NOT pull the weapon, how did the agents discover he had it.

All this must be determined.

But bringing kerosene to a fire is not a smart or logical thing to do. I await more input.

well, we can wonder but we KNOW that he never brandished it, or attempted to use it. it’s on tape.

agents discovered he had it because they saw it in his waistband when they grabbed him.

He did it because it made him feel safer. guns make people FEEL safer, whether justified or not. it made him braver to have a gun at this protest.

I always carry in the woods. I have an irrational fear of mountain lions, and the gun helps a lot with that. I doubt I’d get it drawn before one got me from behind, but it helps my anxiety.

A gun is just a tool, an inanimate object. He probably carried it all the time for self-defense, every day, never pulling it out, and he clearly didn’t pull it out here. Someone found it when they frisked him after he was immobilized. There were no doubt others in the crowd who had pocket knives. Those were also a danger to no one. Probably some had cans of gasoline in their cars they recently filled for their snowblowers. Also not a danger.

I’m sure every single ICE agent was carrying a gun or two, which get pulled out all the time and pointed at people as we have seen on the news. That is dangerous, and certainly a threat. Kristy Noem, the ICE Queen, gave away the game when she said Sunday there was an uptick on agent assaults and then said that it was “verbal assaults” that are up so dramatically. Someone makes an unkind or mean comment to an ICE agent and they report that up the chain so ICE can claim there is a massive increase in “assaults on agents”. I don’t believe anything the administration says.

They used his 2nd amendment rights as a reason to execute him in the street.

I also wonder, if he didn’t have a gun, would he still have been executed. Just for interfering…

This is ridiculous. As a citizen of the United State if a law enforcement officer approached you what are your responsibilities?

Run?
Spit in their face
Ignore them completely ?
Yell at them?
Shove anything in their face!
Threaten them in any way?
Etc…,

If you do any of the above you are not a citizen no matter water credentials you hold! You have no respect for what this country stands for and you feel that your views are above all others!

This country was founded with an understanding of the behavior of tyrannical governments and how important it was for citizens to freely be heard, their voice to be unimpeded by the whims of tyrants. So yes, a citizen can yell at ICE. And thank god no one needs to bow to you, or ICE, or Donald J Trump as judge re: who is or is not a citizen based on exercise of their rights. BTW, all those other things you mention re: “responsibilities” don’t appear to match any of the things Pretti did on Saturday before he was murdered.

Time to start a petition to ban guns at all protests including 2nd amendment protests. Watch them all line up to sign it.

Trump’s plan was always to take the guns. You can hear the master plan from Trump himself….

MAGA morons are going to be in for a rude awakening when their guns, gold, and god are taken away and they are shipped off to alligator Auschwitz.

Got exit strategy? <snark>

Yes, Mish, this was on my bingo card – as I remarked yesterday. If this does not blow up MAGA, nothing will.

But more importantly for MAGA believers, remember that your current silence will be the beginning of your own worst future. Even the current Republican/MAGA offices for FBI, DHS and DOJ now say you can’t bring your guns with magazines wherever you thought was previously legal.

That will be THE beginning talking point for the next Democratic administration. And remember how it was recently secretly memo’ed that ICE does not have to have warrants to search homes for ‘violators’. Uh, oh, MAGA gun owners. It won’t be long until ‘they’ are knocking on your door for being ‘domestic terrorists’.

And AI can currently make a deepfake nude of anyone on the Internet. So if you think a new Democratic DOGE-like office won’t use AI to look up Internet photos of MAGA gun owners (even beneath masks) with time/date/location stamps to locate and de-gun them, you’re living in a fantasy land.

The time to speak up against this reversal of constitutional and human rights is quickly disappearing. And remember, if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem – at least to the next other-party administration.

Administration-wide talking point — that carrying a firearm inherently proves the carrier must’ve had sinister, criminal intent ? So ICE agents carrying guns also possibly proves likewise that some ICE agents have sinister criminal intent ? A large number of citizens have seen enough video to feel ICE is now also getting out of control.

Sorry, no, the government agents are empowered to carry weapons. It’s the terrorists intent on a bloodbath bringing assault weapons and an arsenal of ammunition to confront government agents just trying to do their jobs who need to be dealt with and they will be.

You are right the only power ICE understands is the use of weapons. Be it non lethal or lethal.

They certainly are quite empowered by the up arming of them. And that is a problem.

They call all sorts of people they don’t like groomers and peods yet they go out of their way to protect their own pedos.

How to detect a Nazi?

When their commitment to the cult allows them to do mental gymnastic around facts, videos and the Bill of Rights itself, you know that you are dealing with a Nazi.

On that case, there is nothing that you can do or show that will change their view. They have already fully enlisted in the cause and are in it until the end.

At a basic personal (not political or ideological level), it is characteristic of the Nazi to admire force and power but to loathe weakness. Bullies have a 6th sense for weakness but submit easily when forced. Heroes rescue the weak and fight with courage even when winning is not a foregone conclusion. Bullies tend to brown nose to those above them but to tread on those below.

correct. agree. as my old landlord, said just 2 years to me, who had to hide in venice italy as a child, run out of milan, since his mother was a jew and they killed off the father and older siblings, after 1945 there was not a fascist or nazi to be found in europe.
