Trump Promised to Reduce Energy Bills in Half. How’s He Doing?

Let’s check in on a Trump campaign promise.

Energy Year-Over-Year Fact Check

  • CPI Energy Jan 2025 1.0%, Now 20.4%
  • CPI Utilities and Fuel Jan 2025 2.9%, Now 5.8%
  • CPI Gasoline Jan 2025 -0.2%, Now 34.2%
  • CPI Diesel Jan 2025 -9.3%, Now 69.7%

We cannot calculate how much Trump was wrong on diesel because to go from -9.3 percent to +69.7 percent while promising lower is undefined.

Promises Fact Check

  • Clip 1: With the Trump economic plan, we will will cut your energy prices in half within – lock it down – you can get get very angry at me if we don’t do it – but within 12 months your energy prices will be cut in half.
  • Clip 2: My plan will cut energy prices in half or more than that within 12 months of taking office.
  • Clip 3: Number one, your energy bill within 12 months will be cut in half. That’s my pledge all over the country. To farmers, that’s my pledge all over the country.
  • Clip 4: If you vote for me, I will cut your energy and electricity in half within 12 months. We’re gonna cut them down.
  • Clip 5: And under my plan we will cut energy and electricity in half within 12 months. And that means your homes too.
  • Clip 6: I will cut your energy and electricity prices in half. 50 percent. Five O, within 12 months of taking office.
  • Clip 7. My plan will cut energy prices in half within 12 months. We’re gonna have energy prices for businesses, but in my opinion maybe even more importantly for the average household by 12 months from January 20th which is the day we go into office.
  • Clip 8: I will cut the price of energy and electricity in half. Ready? 12 months from January 20, your electric bill, including cars, air conditioners, heating, everything. Your total electric bill will be fifty, five o, fifty percent less. We’re gonna cut it in half.
  • Clip 9: And I will cut energy and electricity prices in half within 12 months of taking office. Fifty percent.
  • Clip 10: The pledge that I am making now, and we’ve done this a little bit over the last month or so, we are going to bring energy down by 50 percent, five o percent, fifty percent within 12 months from January 20.

Fact Check Promises vs Results

  • Trump promised numerous times to cut energy bills in half.
  • Instead, the cost of energy rose from 1% year-over-year to 20.4% year-over year.

But that’s OK because it’s small price to pay and Trump knew it would happen.

We Were Very Aware

Well it’s just a little bit, so who’s counting?

Besides, didn’t Trump warn us all along that war was a possibility?

Let’s fact check that too.

I Am Not Going to Start a War

Trump: “I’m not going to start a war, I’m going to stop wars…Under Trump we will have no more wars, no more disruptions, and we will have prosperity and peace for all…I am the candidate of peace, I am peace.”

Obvious Points

Obviously, Trump didn’t say what he said.

Q: How so?
A: Trump is always right. And since he is always right, he never said what he said.

If this sounds confusing, please remember Trump is always right.

He’s a genius too.

I hope that clarifies matters.

Good thing he didn’t say he would “cut energy costs” any more!

Kind of like starting a war with Iran so we could pay them “$300 Billion Reconstruction and Development Fund”.
Not to mention roughly a Trillion $ in costly military epenses.
Good thing we didn’t lose!!
(As per my bumper sticker too!)

No worries, Iran is still “begging for a deal”!
Tip: If Trump uses the word “Begging” in any sentence assume the OPPOSITE is true! Like when he pissed off the Italian PM lying claiming she was “begging to meet him”. Utter BS.
He’s developed a toolbox of BS catch words and phrases over the years to fool people. Sadly, but importantly. we have to learn his tricks.

Even the New York Times has stated that the whole campaign is a CIA operation. Ukraine cannot fly around Russian Air Defense without real-time satellite ISR, finding seams in radar coverage, flying at elevations and speeds to slip by Russian monitoring.

The whole idea that Ukraine decides anything means they have succeeded in pulling the wool over your eyes: Proxy war means it is the US at war, Ukraine is just the hands. All the political theater is to pretend it isn’t the US, and to burden-share the war onto European leaders who are NATO servants. Europeans have to jump into the meat-grinder after the last Ukrainian.

Same as when they talk about Israel “going it alone”. Yeah, without satellite signals, flying through US defended air space, no refueling.

There is one thing that Donald J. Trump excells at compared to all the malignant narcissists that I have seen personally, or have become aware of from a distance, and that is “gaslighting”. He is “absolutely” the ultimate gaslighter of “humongous” proportions that I have ever seen. And yes, I have a background in the “Behavioral Sciences”, and actually studied under a very astute psychiatrist, not as a patient, but as a student. And I totally agree with Dr. John Gartner, that the president is extremely narcissistic and extremely demented. You see, the president actually believes his nonsense because in his current state of dementia, he doesn’t realize how nonsensical it really is. And the most frightening part of this is: the very position in the U.S. government he now occupies.

my weekly call from Iran was short because once again my country is forcing these people to flee their homes.

iranian government is saying the Americans will attack within 7 to 10 days. no one knows why or if it is true but the people i talk to are headed Northwest to avoid the bombing if it happens.

a warship from someone’s navy entered the Gulf yesterday or the day before, the time zones fuck with me, but Iranian gun boats drove it away.

there has been an uptick in Sunni attacks in south eastern Iran. Police stations burned to the ground and attacks on army and Iranian militia convoys.

Well yes all politicians lie, even to their base. Trump is no different on that. All Republicans and Democrats do it.

Trump was different though in one big way. In his first campaign, he promised to appoint Supreme Court justices who were anti-abortion, and he did so, appointing Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett, all of whom subsequently voted in 2022 to overturn Roe v. Wade. This was perhaps the biggest single issue to MAGA, and Trump did what he promised. (I am not commenting on abortion itself, I merely wish to point out that to MAGA, on the most important issue they had, Trump upheld his promise).

That issue is now done and the halo is gone. MAGA now seems to be looking at other issues such as their personal finances or foreign wars and may decide to hold Trump accountable for his false promises on those topics. So the days of Trump being Mr. Teflon look to be over.

That’s not what I said. I am stating no opinion at all on whether I think his Supreme Court appointments were good or not. But the abortion issue was absolutely critical to the evangelical and social conservative components of MAGA, and Trump delivered on his promises to them. You can’t dispute that.

Shelmas
Shelmas

Reply to  Flavia

You are correct, for a large portion of MAGA (not the evangelicals nor the social conservatives, but the blue collar component), immigration was the biggest issue, particularly following what happened during the Biden administration. In the 2024 campaign, Trump promised to do several things including mass deportations, completing the border wall, and putting an end to birthright citizenship. Putting aside whether we think these are good or bad promises, there is the question of: Did Trump deliver on the promises he made to MAGA? On mass deportations, the answer is yes, deportations drastically increased, and immmigration drastically decreased. On completing the wall, the answer is a partial yes, not so much as a physical wall but more as a “smart” electronic system. On birthright citizenship, the answer is no, but this was a ridiculous promise to do something clearly unconstitutional. But he can still go back to his MAGA base and claim he tried.

In a way, you are strengthening the case that Trump has carried through on some of the promises he made to the MAGA crowd that were most important to them.

I was in IT during the original dotcom bust.

One of the suppliers to router manufacturers said they knew there was a problem when their own customers ordered more parts than the total worldwide market had need for.

Carly Fiorina, who was CEO at the time, said that visibility into HP’s pipeline suddenly disappeared, remarking, “It was as if somebody turned out the lights.”

I just sold a company that distributed construction materials. We did a Microsoft data center during the due diligence process and the contract for just a small part of the building was $2M, which was equivalent to 15% of our annual revenues. It made it easy for the excited buyer.

Microsoft plans 15 more data centers just like it! I may have been early to sell, but I didn’t want the lights turned out on me.

The manager of our engineering team at a major microprocessor company was asked to come along as an engineering liaison to a meeting with some folks who wanted to sell us their IP for a chip. He came back telling us that his simple questions about whether they had simulated it, modeled it or taped it out for fabrication shot the whole deal down. All they had was the untested source code for the chip and were asking dozens of millions for it. That’s what was then called vaporware. Examples like these then were legion.

If bad policy as obvious as this passes uncorrected, our master steering mechanism is broken.

Trump doing this ruinous, ill-planned war without any form of public consent alone is far more than his usual trolling and questionable policymaking. It should be enough to bring a wholesale public rebuke.

Yes, we’ve done stupid stuff before. But November is a litmus test for the USA, its governance system, and its future. If the stupidity quotient is that bad, we’re turning a corner.

The “lesser evil” strategy doesn’t prevent the evil tyrant. It produces him. Every time you swallow the lesser evil to block the worse one, you’re buying time—but you’re also letting the underlying conditions fester. And those conditions are what eventually generate the actual catastrophe.

I have heard of humans who insist that Donald Trump is in fact the Second Coming, but I have never encountered any such humans in the wild.

If Trump has any religion at all, I think he’s a convert to Judaism. It would explain a lot. I’ve heard that some (a tiny few) Jews consider Trump to possibly be the Messiah ben Joseph. Most American Jews just consider him an asshole.

And then be destroyed yet again. Or will Russia put air defense at every data center? Not that it makes much of a difference when it’s never 100% effective.

In his own way, Trump is a genius. He has several impediments to that genius.
He is unable to express himself well; he is a lousy speaker! As I my self am 87, it is clear that his AGE is a factor in his stumbling: He shouldn’t have been so quick to pick on sleepy Joe Biden! In his previous administration he had people with more experience, but they didn’t fully agree with him. This administration is filled with inexperienced brown nosers ready to carry out any cockamamie idea Trump suggests. The plan to exterminate TERROR from Iran is worthy. It was executed with amateurish thinking. Were any of the NEGATIVE consequences of the operation considered? Intelligence concerning Iran had to be faulty. Was the inept CIA in on the plan. Knowing the CIA, that could have been the failure! The CIA likely issued false information in order to f–k -p the campaign?

The CIA is full of insane Zionists. Getting the U.S. in another stupid Mideast war wasn’t a bug, it was a feature.

Thanks for engaging.

What genius qualities do you believe Trump possesses?

Isn’t the reason that Trump’s “administration is filled with inexperienced brown nosers ready to carry out any cockamamie idea Trump suggests” precisely that Trump hired people because they were like that? No self-respecting expert in any field would agree to be a sock-puppet for their boss, so the only people he could get were inexperienced, i.e., they lacked the requisite experience and knowledge to perform the job. Similarly, he demanded absolute loyalty, which means he wanted brown-nosers who would never question his orders or ever tell him no. Isn’t that obvious? Do you really think that someone who is a genius would not understand this?

What am I missing? Please tell me, it is not a rhetorical question.

trump is the greatest actor of our generation. charlie chaplin claimed that adolph hitler was the greatest actor of his generation. he even made a movie mocking hitler. and hitler loved it. watched it twice. trump had a hit reality tv show for a very long time. and convinced hundred million plus amerikans he was the greatest businessman of all time. he needs an academy award. lifetime achievement. forget the nobel.

But, but at least he’s not Kamala! He’s a WHITE MAN! And Kamala had a wierd laugh! And her campaign was pure socialism: Tax cuts for middle class people, expanding child care benefits for families, and expanding green energy jobs. No thanks Komrade Kamala! /s

Without spending cuts, tax “cuts” are /not/. They instead shift taxation from transparent accounting to murky taxation via currency devaluation, in turn affecting people in less obvious ways.

A week after trump passed his tax cuts (primarily for the wealthy — yes, worse), ZH ran a headline saying the USD devalued that week enough to entirely offset the benefit Trump claimed for the middle class.

Little bit of sane-washing going on here. She also promised to provide transgender surgery at state cost to imprisoned illegals.

She also couldn’t name a single thing she’d do differently than Biden.

Not a great candidate at the time people were desperate for change.

”She also couldn’t name a single thing she’d do differently than Biden.”

This was the key problem with her IMO. It tells you that she has no willingness to say no, to question her boss. She is essentially telling America that she thinks Joe Biden’s decision making was perfect.

How could any thinking person vote for someone like that? This is not a rhetorical question.

If Hitler was found yesterday, his body and mind frozen in 1945, and fully resuscitated tomorrow, and the unfrozen Adolph Hitler were to run for office against Trump (one being the Democrat nominee and one the Republican), would you vote for Adolph or would you vote for Donald? Or would you vote for a candidate who is NOT evil but belongs to a [gasp] third party?!

That is the question!

Well, obviously I would have to compare them on their merits. At this point turning Hitler loose on Israel might land in my pro column.

  • In 1938 Hitler was featured as man of the year on the cover of Time.
  • Everybody then thought he was a great statesman who had saved Germany from ruin.
  • He actually had more democratic (electoral) legitimacy than does the European Commission and Arsula fond of Lying.
  • You know how they keep comparing people as “the modern Hitler”? A sober glance perhaps reveals that not even Hitler was ‘Hitler’, until the telling afterwards.

YOU ARE DEAD ON CORRECT. she lost the day she said couldnt’ name a different thing from biden. also Biden lost on the genocide and famine warmongering……..plus his idiotic debate and turning baton over. if they had opened the convention to voting for a 2024 candidate perhaps Mamala might have won that and the general. maybe.

Don’t forget that in Nov 2024

  • the CIA officially estimated the chance of a nuclear exchange at 50% and that Admiral
  • Stratcom Admiral Buchanan mentioned they are prepared for a nuclear exchange and that we will win

So don’t conclude too lightly that with Kamala, Blinken, and Sullivan things could not have been any worse.

Everyone knew he was an ignorant Charlatan, but a bunch of morons voted for him anyway for whatever reason they rationalized to themselves

expecting rational policy from a democracy is crazy, since humans struggle with objectivity

same as it ever was. Hopefully better in future but no guarantees so plan accordingly!
