Trump Will Decide Whether to Bomb Iran Within Two Weeks

Trump deploys his usual negotiation standby, threats then decide later.

Plans Already Approved

The Wall Street Journal reports Trump’s Iran Decision to Come Within Two Weeks

  • Trump told senior aides late Tuesday that he approved of attack plans for Iran, but was holding off to see if Tehran would abandon its nuclear program, people familiar with the deliberations said.
  • The U.S. has beefing up its forces in the region. A third U.S. Navy destroyer entered the eastern Mediterranean Sea and a second U.S. carrier strike group is heading toward the Arabian Sea. The Pentagon says the moves are defensive.
  • Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says his country wouldn’t surrender and warns any U.S. military intervention would bring irreparable consequences.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu calls an Iranian strike on a hospital the work of “terrorist tyrants,” adding Israel is advancing “step by step” toward eliminating Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic missiles.
  • The death toll in Iran rose above 639 people, according to a human-rights group. In Israel, 24 people have died as a result of Iranian strikes.

The Two-Week Ploy

In saying he’ll make a decision on Iran within two weeks, President Trump has reached for an old standby.

Two weeks and he’ll know whether Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to end the war in Ukraine. Two weeks until the next move on trade. Two weeks until a health care overhaul is released. And two weeks for an infrastructure plan.

“When the next decision isn’t obvious, sometimes he just buys himself more time,” said GOP strategist Alex Conant, who worked in the George W. Bush White House. “Two weeks is forever in politics. The truth is, a lot of problems just work themselves out if you give them time.”

That appears to be Trump’s current calculation. He is trying to buy more time in hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough with Iran – or a total surrender. Putting off a decision also keeps the onus on Israel to continue the fight, and spares Trump the difficult choice of whether to commit the U.S. militarily. Trump campaigned on getting the U.S. out of wars, not joining them, and his political base is in a fierce debate over Iran.

MAGA Brawls Over Prospect of Trump Joining Strikes on Iran

Also consider MAGA Brawls Over Prospect of Trump Joining Strikes on Iran

The fierce debate—unfolding online, across conservative media and on Capitol Hill—has pitted the more isolationist wing of Trump’s coalition against hawkish Republicans who have called on the president to step in to ensure Iran doesn’t develop a nuclear weapon. It marks the strongest challenge to Trump’s iron grip on the Republican Party since he regained power in January. And it comes as Trump’s base is also divided over immigration, with the administration wavering over whether to exempt farm and service workers from deportations to insulate the economy.

Some of the sharpest objections over Iran have come from avid Trump allies such as Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. “Anyone slobbering for the U.S. to become fully involved in the Israel/Iran war is not America First/MAGA,” she wrote on X. Appearing on former Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz’s television show, Greene said, “A Middle Eastern war will pull America back 20 years.”

As Israel prepared to attack Iran last week, Kirk polled supporters about whether the U.S. should get involved. Nearly 90% said no. In recent days, as Trump has moved closer to military action, Kirk urged his five million followers to have faith in the president’s ability to handle the crisis. “His whole life has led to this moment,” Kirk wrote Monday on X.

Levin has been publicly fighting with Tucker Carlson, the former Fox personality who, after Israel began its strikes, accused Trump of being “complicit in the act of war.” Trump hit back on social media, saying “Somebody please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”

Trump conceded Wednesday that opinions on U.S. involvement in Iran were mixed, but insisted, “My supporters are more in love with me today than they were even at the election.”

The administration’s short-lived guidance to exempt workers in key industries from deportation also triggered frustration among allies of the president who have advocated for stringent immigration restrictions. After facing backlash from supporters, including inside the White House, the administration said there was no longer blanket guidance pausing immigration raids at farms, hotels and restaurants.

Asked if some exemptions would stay in place, Trump said Tuesday, “Everyone is being looked at.” He also called for an expansion of ICE operations in Democratic-controlled cities such as Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.

But some of the president’s backers said the damage to his immigration agenda had already been done because the possibility of exemptions muddied the administration’s message.

“It’s guaranteed to sabotage any efforts at self-deportation,” said Mark Krikorian, executive director for the Center for Immigration Studies, a group favoring immigration restrictions. “It also increases the incentives to come illegally because you’ve heard they aren’t going after restaurant employees anymore.”

Trump has been flip-flopping on deportations and tariffs since the start of his second term. For now, deportations are back on, one day after they weren’t.

Trump also announced the return of reciprocal tariffs for July 9th. Then one day later Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Trump was likely to extend the pause.

Q: What do we call these massive flip-flops?
A: 5D chess, of course.

Businesses love the uncertainty of not knowing whether tariffs are 10% or 88%. They also love knowing whether their workforce will show up for work or be on their way to El Salvador.

It takes a master like Trump to figure this out. And best of all “My supporters are more in love with me today than they were even at the election,” said Trump.

Also note that we are into our second 90-day extension on Tik-Tok.

One thing we know for sure is two weeks means two weeks, unless it means two hours or two years.

Meanwhile, “Somebody please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON!”

Israel is frightening and shaking in his boot.
US is waiting for 2 weeks
For what?
Why?
What is the reason?
US is abandoning Israel like NATO and its allies who are also shaking in their boots, frightening and very furious.
Abandoning for at least 2 weeks.
After that? Who knows.
John Mearsheimer said Israel gets whatever they need.
No. Not this time.
Israel will collapse without Us support political, military, financial.

“collapse a mountain” “destroy the vents” “collapse the bunker” – so many delusional warmongers in this chat. The same morons who thought Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Ukraine and many more would be easy victories. History suggests you are very likely 100% wrong about everything..

Of course these “experts” (PhDd’s in Stupid), getting all their intel from CNN, know better than say Ted Postol, MIT specialist who is describe as the “west’s top expert on missiles and anti-missile defence” for over 30 years now……he actually knows what he is talking about, you don’t, and he says the bunker busters will likely do very llittle to bunkers 200′ down, and against 2,500 feet deep bunkers, nothing at all.

besides, the US and Israel have been telegraphing this attack for so long, it is highly probably the Iranians have moved everything of value to other sites by now, unless they are as stupid as you are: Joe Tzu – “Always warn the enemy years in advance where you ae going to attack, and success will be yours!

Judging by the videos of the Iranian hypersonic ballistic missiles, I’d say they are 10 years ahead of the US at least in missiles, and considering they also have hypersonic anti-ship missiles, and hundreds of thousands of drones, the USA will likely lose this war and see carrier fleets at the ocean bottom, leadintg the US to use nukes, which will likely beget a nuclear response from any number of nations. This could be America’s last war, and Trump the last President. He will be lucky to get away with just mpeachment..

Israel is being destroyed as we speak here, missiles are landing all over it, and the Iron Colander is managing about a 10% overall interception rate, and running out of missiles doing it. So the Israelis are desperately trying to get the USA to save them from the results of their own stupidity, and Trump is probably dumb enough to try it, at the behest of the Israeli donor class, the real rulers of America.

No doubt why Trump wants the Golden Dome – the gold is in the profits of the contractors who will build that ineffective boondoggle.

This situation is similar to Iraq and “weapons of mass destruction”. The important point is that bombing will not do the job, ground troops are needed. That means the US will need to supply the troops. My guess is Trump will not commit ground troops and Iran will eventually have a nuke. No reasonable American wants any of this mess. Let’s say goodbye to Israel and their wars.

All this discussion about more war and decapitation can only lead to more chaos for normal people.

About time the US reconsidered the case for the ICC as a way of holding leaders to account. Both Khameini and Netanyahu are not doing good things for their populations and ought to be facing some kind of justice.

The US states that it is concern about the ICC being used politically against US interests. The reality is that the US wants to continue acting with impunity around the world. About time that this was stopped.

It does not matter if they are a threat in actuality.

If Israel competes with economically or can make a case against any nation, people or state, they will be attacked as a function of Israel’s unbridled aggression.

Joe Kernan of course supports his bellicose position and promotes investment in Israel.

Following Israel’s lead on the wars in GAZA and Iran has consequences. Sure it is easy to bomb GAZA to dust. That has been accomplished and now the U.S. is being lead into a total war and regime change in Iran.

Israel and the U.S. are now bombing the hell out of Iran. Given the U.S.’s provision of weaponry to Israel and technical and tactical support it is impossible to separate the U.S. and Israel’s aggression in both attacks.

The U.S. constitution provides that the U.S. is not to provide for the establishment of any religion. Yet clearly, this is being ignored in supporting Israel (Jews) over Gaza and Iran (Islam).

Common sense indicates that a free nation should not take sides in religious conflicts.

While it is certainly tempting for our Neo-Cons to force our nation into these wars for the profits they will generate. It is unwise to continue because of the risk of expansion.

Trump is not a wise man and unfortunately only thinks of grabbing quick profits for himself and his sycophants.

Bombing nuclear sites is prohibited by the Geneva Convention so Israel is in clear violation of this provision. Particularly since there is no objective evidence that Iran was building a bomb. Even if Iran was building a bomb, they have the right to do so.

Why is Israel above sanctions for bombing what it defines as nuclear sites and why does the world not stop Israel from essentially “Dirty Bombing” Iran?

The worst thing to do is think, “oh yeah, just a bunker buster and out.” Whatever arguments one make pro or versus, it’s soon quagmire time. And human catastrophe time. The USA needs to nation-build at home, and does not have a lot of spare resources (in a world of limited mega-borrowing) for doing this AGAIN abroad. Wasn’t that MAGA’s core point? But I don’t expect a certain mind to stay on ANY track. I’m just saying, there will be costs, and not small ones. Maybe historically pivotal costs. The price of getting on a track of kicking more and more and more booty has not classically been a successful one. And letting someone else, however beloved, dictate one’s timing is a big gamble too. Dolf tried that for Benito and others.

Problem is Iran already has many tons of spent fuel rods which are in many ways much worse than conventional nukes. Load up a number of missiles with rods and explosives and once they get near Israel then they will get blown out of the sky which will spread contamination over the land below or if they get through then they will blow up either at altitude or on ground strike. Such dirty bombs will salt the earth with radioactive stuff that will make the area uninhabitable for many thousands of years.
By not committing for 2 weeks at least Trump is buying time for some sort of deal to be made. If dirty bombs do rain down then it will be WW3.
And the US isn’t safe by having a few thousand miles gap. Not hard to load spent fuel rods in a cargo ship or 3 with enough shielding so they won’t be spotted and then explode them in major US port cities.

Sentient

That won’t happen because Iran’s rulers aren’t that evil. They could have done that for decades. There are many Muslims in and around Israel and the Dome of the Rock is there. Only Israel or the U.S. would do something like that.

Reply to  Neal

I had never heard these concerns so asked the AI to elaborate. As I suspected, this is nothing but FUD. Let’s try to keep the discussions honest and realistic.

## Can Spent Nuclear Fuel Rods Explode or Be Used in a Dirty Bomb?

**Explosion Potential:**

– Spent nuclear fuel rods cannot explode like a nuclear bomb. They do not contain the necessary concentration of fissile material (such as highly enriched uranium or weapons-grade plutonium) required for a nuclear explosion[4][5][8].

– The uranium in commercial reactor fuel is not enriched enough to be weapons-grade. Extracting the small amount of enriched uranium-235 or plutonium from spent fuel would require a large, sophisticated chemical reprocessing facility, which is beyond the reach of most non-state actors[5][8].

– The rods themselves are ceramic solids encased in metal, and after use in a reactor, they are highly radioactive and thermally hot, making them extremely dangerous to handle without heavy shielding and specialized equipment[5][7].

**Dirty Bomb Potential:**

– A “dirty bomb” or radiological dispersal device (RDD) combines conventional explosives with radioactive material to spread contamination, not to create a nuclear explosion[4][6].

– In theory, spent nuclear fuel could be used in a dirty bomb. However, this is highly impractical for several reasons:

 – **Extreme Radioactivity:** Spent fuel is so radioactive that anyone attempting to handle or steal it without proper shielding would receive a lethal dose of radiation within minutes or hours[5][7].

 – **Physical Security:** Spent fuel is stored in highly secure facilities, either in robust pools with thick concrete and steel walls or in massive dry casks designed to withstand extreme impacts and tampering[1][5].

 – **Material Form:** The ceramic or vitrified form of most high-level waste makes it very difficult to disperse effectively with a conventional explosion[1].

 – **Risk vs. Reward:** While such a device could cause contamination and public panic, the actual health effects would likely be limited, and the conventional explosive would cause more immediate harm than the radioactive material itself[4][5][6].

## Conclusion

Spent nuclear fuel rods cannot be used to create a nuclear explosion. While they could, in theory, be used in a dirty bomb, the extreme radioactivity, secure storage, and physical form of the material make this scenario highly impractical and dangerous for would-be perpetrators. The primary impact of a dirty bomb would be psychological and economic disruption, not mass casualties[1][4][5].

Israel, embroiled in two wars now (Gaza and Iran), finds itself desperately needing America’s tender care and aid. Is it so surprising that the country cannot find its own footing in these precarious times? In military terms, the goal of Israel is not only to destroy current nuclear production facilities in Iran but to make sure that future ones don’t get built. They do this through intimidation, by killing scientists.

To be sure, murder is an effective tool if you can wield it with impunity. The Gestapo found out this in its own short political-paramilitary career. But it is unfashionable to be the one telling the Emperor he has no clothes: and Netanyahu is butt naked at this point, believing himself strong when he is acting out of a kind of weakness.

Trump, who vacillates on so many issues, is only certain about China (and the Bible: the Bible is good). China rips off America gigantically, in the Teflon Don’s book. And maybe it does, maybe it does. But what’s going to happen to your esteemed tariffs when the next president rolls on into office, Donald?

I think they are making sure when all the fissionable material is before bombing. We don’t know what is going on behind the scenes and can only speculate. This has been planned for a long time. We can see it by the cadence of the strikes and the seamless delivery of the logistics from the US. I wonder if the removal of carriers from the Indian Ocean before the attack was to lure the Iranians into believing nothing was imminent. We are working together. Good cop bad cop now.

So Sunday or Monday, I believe, Israel came out & said they had destroyed 1/3 of Iran’s missile launchers. I’d like the updated stat on that one.

Yes, I agree. Israel & the US are doing a lot of fine tuning of the final act, especially if Israel is forced to go it alone.

I would imagine 20 GBU-28 (5,000 lb) bunker busting bombs would do an enormous amount of damage to Fordow. The Israeli F-15I could likely carry two of them.

Israel may try them out on the underground facility at Natanz that has lots of centrifuges. It’s said to be ~140 feet below ground & sits below 26 feet of reinforced concrete. A laser guided, pinpoint strike of TWO GBU-28’s would most likely breach that level of fortification. I would imagine that Israel would have to spread the 20 bombs over a fairly wide area to ensure they’ve taken the facility out fully.

It’s parameters are said to be 140 ft of earth + 16 ft of concrete. The GBU-28 was developed & deployed in three weeks back in Desert Storm. The outer casing was fully redesigned, making it even more capable.

It’s been reported that Israel has been attacking Natanz, but I haven’t read anything that suggests they’ve deployed the GBU-28. I did read that the tunnel structures at Natanz are much larger than expected.

If Israel goes it alone, I would imagine there’s going to be hundreds of commandos deployed to Natanz & Fordow to assess damage & mop up. And that’s really the whole point of US involvement around Fordow especially. The GBU-57 would either eliminate the need for boots on the ground or turn it into a much shorter & risky mission.

Probably the most important point is that the intelligence community seems to believe that Israel has infiltrated the regime much more deeply than anyone knew. If so, I’d bet Israel’s intelligence on what / when the structures lie underground at Natanz & Fordow is very reliable.

The U.S. is already involved and has been from the get go. The debate about whether or not the U.S. will enter the war is a farce. The general public will only believe it when the MSM officially declares it.

I predict the U.S. will “enter the war” in the next 1-3 days by bombing Iran with its own aircraft and missiles.

The bombing of nuclear sites will make the headlines in keeping with the “WMD narrative”, but since the real goal is to turn Iran into another Libya, there will actually be widespread targets that the MSM will barely mention to keep the operation on script.

Trump posted a couple days ago on Truth Social that 95% of Republicans support his foreign policy and by the timing of his post, he seems to believe this level of support exists for the war with Iran. He’s either deluded or dishonest.

The question is: what is the level of support for war with Iran among Republicans in the real world? How many in his base will abandon him because of this?

Iran is almost 2.5x bigger than Canada with respect to population. Bigger than Germany at the beginning of WW2. They are close to a peer adversary to the US with respect to modern missile tech, and a lot of the WW2 military tech we have is only suitable for beating up on third world countries. Meanwhile China, Russia, and Pakistan are airlifting military supplies into Iran and China has moved two high tech arial surveillance ships into the Persian gulf to provide early warnings to Iran and provided the latest sophisticated targeting tech upgrades to Iran for the Chinese supplied anti-aircraft systems. Additionally Iran has subs capable of firing missiles. This is not gonna be pretty..Trump better listen to cooler heads. We didn’t attack N. Korea right before they got nukes..this is not what we voted for..

So how do you think Kamala Word Salad would be handling this right now?

Many people (the middle) voted for Trump precisely because of who was the other choice.

I have no idea… but at least she’d be acting like an adult.

There wouldn’t be this flip flopping and endless stream of broken “two weeks” promises.

There wouldn’t have been millions spent on a pathetic military parade for the birthday of a draft dodger.

We also wouldn’t have a convicted rapist, felon and best bud of an industrial scale pedophile as president.

Dignity as a nation counts for something. Because of trump, no country trusts us, and they all think we’re a joke.

I voted for Kamala because I saw this was the other choice… not because I think she would be a good president. I think she would have been a better president though, and trump just keeps dropping that bar.

China is there because of the oil need, not because they like Iran. Implicitly they understand this attack is an effort by the US to restrict oil to China as retaliation for them restricting rare earths to the US.

Remember if there is a regime change the next one will be friendly to the US and less friendly to China/Russia which means the US will gain control of Irans oil via a puppet leader.

MIT Prof Ted Postol speaking with Lt. Col. Daniel Davis deflates the GBU-57 bunker buster myth. Postal: “bunker busters are likely to have very low rates of success”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=TriASB-F5UY
The deep bunker of Iran’s Fordow facility is reportedly 800 meters below the surface– or 2600 feet. With maximum of 200 feet penetration by GBU-57, that leaves 2400 feet of rock and subsoil to absorb the blast, plus the structure of the bunker ceiling is likely designed to resist a massive blast. So why would the USAF risk the shoot down of a precious B-2, and consequent PR disaster?

We don’t have to hit the actual caverns where the installation exists. It would be good enough to collapse all the mountain around it and bury it.

Then if Iran tries to dig it out in the future, we bomb it again, once they have opened it up.

Neal

An underground bunker is no different than a deep underground mine. It needs access shafts for men/materials and ventilation shafts. Plenty of miners have survived cave ins only to die when they run out of air. Destroy the bunkers access shafts with major cave ins and the bunker is entombed. Then just monitor for any attempt to bore new shafts. Nearly as good as destruction of the bunker and technically easier.

Really a matter of semantics. We are in this already. Where is Israel getting the wepons and also who is advising them. This is already our war whether we like or not. Can we please stop the flow of weapons to Israel. Their leader has been waiting for this moment for 15+ years and he will not stop now.

We will use 4-6 of the deep penetrating 30,000 pound bombs in the initial attack. They are dropped within seconds of each other on the same precise point of the mountain that the Fordow nuclear plant is under. There is approximately 300 ft of earth, concrete and steel the bombs will have to penetrate. Each bomb creates a hole for the following bomb to dig deeper until they reach the centrifuges with delayed fuses.

This attack on Fordow has been worked on for years by the targeting experts and practiced many times by the B-2 crews, and in fact a replica of the target has been built and bombed. We have 6 B-2’s at Diego Garcia waiting for the order to execute the plan. We can strike Fordow with the bombs as many times as it takes to do the job. There wouldn’t be an attack if the odds were against it being highly successful.

All Trump really wants is to end that underground nuke factory for good. With a perfect hit it could take less than an hour. It’s ready to go. It is a very tempting target indeed. Basically he is right. I.S. should never have nukes.
Meanwhile, he is happy to wait in readiness while the motivated IDF hacks apart Iran’s air and missile power. Regime change is not actually on the menu, but you never know if that might come too. It will take the Iranis to make that happen, .

Wrong. This is the same perpetual regime change plan.
Same as in Ukraine/Russia, and barring a US slut regime, a failed state.

There is low probability of destroying Fordow, and it is contrary to the Geneva convention, although we have already seen NATO target the nuclear reactors in Kursk & Zaporizhzhia.

But the real question is:

  • Why should the most depraved regime imaginable be allowed to have nukes (USrael)?
  • Why should the greatest sponsor of terror (by far) and a state that never keeps any agreement and has proved to be far and away the greatest rogue, measured by the UN Charter and International law, be allowed nukes (USA).

“The Pentagon says the moves are defensive.”

I call bullsh*t. 8,000 miles or whatever distance it is from our borders with hundreds of military bases outside our borders playing globocop and trying to control the entire world. We can mind our own fracking business, engaging in commerce and friendship with other nations, without being (gasp!) “isolationist.”

If our troops get attacked it will be hard to have sympathy. Swat a hornet’s nest, expect to get stung. Life’s tough; it’s tougher if you’re stupid.

Love your bullshit comment!

Iran couldn’t attack us on our home soil with their weaponry. So this rules out “Defense” quip from the Pentagon.

My thoughts have focused on the Neo-Cons pumping money into our defense contractors pockets. Since when can we get through a couple of years without attacking someone under false pretenses?

With GDP crashing under Trumps war on Americans and exploitation of his office for personal profit it is logical to stuff hundreds of billions into the pockets of defense contractors to cover up part of the decline in GDP. Plus, taking over Irans oil reserves would be handy for Trump and his handlers to exploit…

How do you konw Iran can’t attack the US? Becasue they have not done so yet? Likely they are wiating for the US to enter the war, then we will find out what is what.

“Operation Spider Web” in Russia and the Israeli operation in Iran have give the Iranians the blueprints, all they have to do is follow them You think the US has any defense agianst those kinds of attacks? Congressional testimony last week said there is none, and likley to be none in the forseeable future.

I’m guessing he has been served and consumed a bullshit sandwich by Israel that the US can play Superman and rescue Israel. Yes, rescue, since Israel would not ask the US to intervene unless they were in dire straits, whether projected in advance or surprised by recent failures of the Iron Dome (aka, Canvas Awning?). Bunker buster bombs have no chance of reaching Iranian hardened sites deep underground (reach is 50-60 meters), and there have likely been few if ANY incursions into Iranian airspace by “stealth” or otherwise visible aircraft thus far. If the US were to be able to detonate a nuclear warhead, we can kiss our entire presence in the ME and Europe goodbye, and maybe a large city or two in the US when, not if, Russia and China join in. This is not a fantasy, but a synthesis of non-propaganda facts gathered from low agenda but highly informed sources. Meanwhile, Markets are pricing in a total and quick victory. When is the last quick victory our government has experienced? Good luck, everybody.

Puh-leeze. Tiny Israel, it’s IDF still battling Hamas in Gaza, has now decimated the self-promoted huge and powerful Iranian military machine!

Israel hs complete air control over the whole of the Iran country and are selectively picking off targets, WHILE not targeting civilians, unlike Iran, with their errant missiles. They claim to target Israel military but hit civilian infrastructure and a hospital.

Iran is like Russia. A lot of military parades, a lot of chest beating about how tough they are, a lot of bluster about how they will rain death and destruction on anyone who dares to attack them. But in the end, they are both just paper tigers, as Israel and Ukraine have proven.

Do you look in the mirror in the morning and say “I’m so stupid!”? You should.

Jojo, your clueless comments over the years here are documented proof of the stupid, yet you keep on with it -stupid is as stupid does.

In the real world, Russia has conclusively defeated the entire West, and Israel is being destroyed as we speak and if ths war goes on for another week there won’t be much left of it,. Israels claims of vast damage are about as credible as Ukraines claims of victory right around the corner. Israelis planes have barely entered Iran airspace, they are firing standoff missiles from max range, that is not “air superiority”. Most of the attacks in Iran have come from agents firing ATGMs and oeprating small drones from close range, inside Iran, not air strikes. They have dropped no gravity bombs from over the target that I am aware of, and probalby won’t anytime soon.
