Trump’s New Campaign Idea “When Oil Prices Go Up, We Make Lots of Money”

Yes, Trump really said that. Democrats are sure to make it a campaign issue.

https://twitter.com/Mollyploofkins/status/2032157551060521425?s=20

Truth Social

Truth Social Link: The United States is the largest Oil Producer in the World, by far, so when oil prices go up, we make a lot of money. BUT, of far greater interest and importance to me, as President, is stoping an evil Empire, Iran, from having Nuclear Weapons, and destroying the Middle East and, indeed, the World. I won’t ever let that happen! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Well, I am glad we cleared that up. And Trump has been remarkably consistent on this too.

Just to be sure, let’s fact check that idea.

Trump’s Timeline

8/9/24 “Starting on day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again, to bring down the prices of all goods.”NBC Montana, Trump Rally in Bozeman, MT,  YouTube (August 9, 2024).
8/14/24“Under my administration, we will be slashing energy and electricity prices by half within 12 months, at a maximum 18 months” “Prices will come down. You just watch: They’ll come down, and they’ll come down fast, not only with insurance, with everything.”PBS NewsHour, Trump Rally in North CarolinaYouTube (August 14, 2024).
8/17/24“Starting the day I take the oath of office, I will rapidly drive prices down and we will make America affordable again. We’re going to make it affordable again.”“We’re going to get your energy prices down. We’re going to get your energy prices down by 50%.”PBS NewsHour, Trump speaks at campaign rally in Wilkes-Barre, PennsylvaniaYouTube (August 17, 2024).

Key Quotes and Positions (March 2026):

  • On Price Declines: “Once the national security objectives of Operation Epic Fury are fully achieved, Americans will see oil and gas prices drop rapidly, potentially even lower than they were prior to the start of the operation…” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt via CNN.
  • On Economic Impact: He previously stated that rising gas prices are a sign of “failed leadership” and would “absolutely kill any movement in the economy” YouTube.

Obviously, this clears things up.

Q: How so?
A: Trump was right then and he is right now.

Q: Isn’t that contradictory?
A: Of course not, silly. Trump is always right.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let’s discuss other news of the day.

ZeroHedge Notes a Dire Situation

That “Dire Situation” headline must be wrong.

Q: Why?
A: If we are making lots of money on gasoline, we are making lots of money on Natural Gas, too.

Case closed.

More Good News for Higher Prices

How can that do anything but support higher prices allowing the US to make more money?

We Took a Little “Excursion”

A Word About Excursions

There’s no question someone in the White House told Trump to call the war in Iran an “incursion,” but he heard it as “excursion” and now he keeps calling it that – making the war sound like a holiday getaway – because no one around him ever corrects him when he makes a mistake.

That view is debatable

  • Incursion: an invasion or attack, especially a sudden or brief one. “incursions into enemy territory”
  • Excursion 1: A short journey or trip, especially one engaged in as a leisure activity
  • Excursion 2: A deviation from a regular pattern, path, or level of operation.”the firm’s disastrous excursion into the US electrical market”

With that debate unsettled, let’s return to the good news.

A Word About Diesel Prices

Brilliant Thinking

I am in complete agreement.

“High gas prices are good actually” is a brilliant midterms message, and the president should definitely keep hammering it.

And the Good News Keeps on Rolling

Wow. We may be headed for perpetual war and/or ground troops.

On the high prices are good theory, this news rates to stunningly good for oil prices, natural gas prices, aluminum prices, fertilizer prices, and prices in general.

If you fail to understand that, you fail to understand the magic of 5D thinking.

I repeat: “High gas prices are good actually” is a brilliant midterms message, and the president should definitely keep hammering it.

Then again, Trump won’t have to. Democrats are sure to use that quote in the mistaken belief that it will help them.

And that’s the amazingness of Trump’s obvious brilliance.

I haven’t heard from the enviromentalist. They should be cheering the increases in gas prices. People will drive less and maybe go and buy a Tesla. Isn’t that what they wanted?

Well, huge tankers, oilfields cities are on fire, my totally new friend DaveFromDenver, so probably not.

Environmentalists don’t get off on people being slaughtered like your kind does, so this is really a bust for them.

Why would I buy a Tesla when the latest BYD can charge 20 -> 80% in 5 minutes and travel 500 miles?

Oh wait. They are not sold in the US.

I heard that 50% of LNG shipping is behind the straits. Which I think will lead us to a much greater shortage of LNG than what the straits provide.
Don’t know anything about oil tankers.

And now Trump will remove all sanctions on Russian oil.

Russia is the big winner here.

China is winning as well because Iran has still been shipping oil to China.

The biggest losers: the persian gulf countries, the global supply chains and the global economy.

Much of the world is paying dearly because of the “stable genius” we have as President.

Interestingly, Israel is also potentially a winner from the 30-day waiver specifically allowing countries to purchase Russian oil and petroleum products currently at sea because Russia still provides nearly half of Israel’s imported refined products, including gasoil, diesel, and vacuum gasoil (VGO) used to produce military-grade fuel.

It works the same with gas and houses.

  • First he was going to make houses affordable, but now he doesn’t want home-owners to see their home price go down.
  • First he was going to make gasoline affordable, but now he’s thinking of how much money it is when prices rise.

The only consistent strand in Trump’s thought is that the only mode of thought he knows is about counting the money involved, regardless of what side of what balance.
Whether it’s Gaza, Russia, Ukraine, Golden domes, or Hormuz, he’s always thinking about how to count so much money.

High oil prices are very similar to tariffs in their effects.

PapaDave

Approaching two weeks now. The strait is still essentially closed.

The strait has never been closed before, and most experts considered that possibility a worst case scenario that could cause severe global economic distress after just two weeks.

Oil, LNG, fertilizer, helium, semi conductors, food, aluminum, pharmaceuticals etc are all impacted severely. A global recession will result if this continues much past two weeks.

I was not expecting this to go past two weeks because the world could not stand it and would have to get involved somehow to end it. So far, they have only responded with minor things like SPR releases. That’s not enough.

But wait. There is now an even worse possibility.

Iran is now threatening to destroy oil infrastructure all through the Persian Gulf region. If this occurs it could trigger a global depression before the year is over.

We live in interesting times.

I am still selling small portions of my oil stocks as they keep hitting new record highs. Raising cash for a possible big downturn. Over 50% cash for only the second time in my investing career.

Who is “We” make a lot of money? Exxon, Chevron? those are private companies…the country doesn’t make more. In Mexico, the price of gas hasn’t gone up, not 1 peso. Why, because the country actually owns the oil and refineries. There’s no price gouging. In fact, since I moved my family there almost two years ago now, the price has never changed. It never shoots up due to some holiday, etc. like it does in the US. Americans have no clue in all the various ways they are screwed. Mexico also uses some of it’s oil revenue to cover their universal healthcare.

FIB agents learning MMA? Why? Reminds me of the scene in Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Instead of fighting the swordsman with a sword, Indy just takes his gun out and shoots the guy. I imagine an FIB agent would do the same thing: draw their firearm and put two in the center mass. Much safer than trying to grapple with someone. No need to risk catching AIDS or Hep C from someone you are trying to arrest.

Well technically, Trump’s correct if you positioned your portfolio with energy companies then you’re making a ton of money. If you failed to do that then you’re going to be in the poorhouse.

This can’t last forever, the cure for high oil prices is a crashed economy and thus low demand so the energy complex will eventually come crashing down. Sell calls on rallies, buy puts on crashes.
