However, what would undoubtedly be good for Trump is if Biden performs terribly in both debates but is able to physically hang on until the election.

The answer is younger voters and blacks.On average the economy is doing OK. And asset holders have generally fared well in this economy. But averages will not decide the election.
And according to the National Association of Realtors, the homeownership rate among Black Americans is 44 percent whereas for White Americans it’s 72.7 percent.
That’s the largest Black-White homeownership rate gap in a decade.
The cost of rent has gone up at least 0.4 percent for 33 consecutive months. Young adults and blacks are priced out of a home and it shows up in the polls.
Voters under the age of 35 favor Trump. In 2020 they were over 80% for Biden. But they have their limits.

If Trump cannot win against a mentally and physically feeble opponent, then one way or another, it will be his own fault.

A president with Parkinson’s is manifestly unqualified for the job, but he can appear to function more or less normally, with his functions deteriorating over time.
We cannot know what stage Biden is in, if in fact it’s Parkinson’s and not Alzheimer’s. In any case, people here and elsewhere should temper their expectations of a meltdown on stage. I doubt it will happen. If it does, it will signal disease progression. We shall see. In the meantime, this underscores the need for Trump to be clear, concise, and steady in the shit show in 10 days.

What we know from appearances between Biden and Trump is that Biden looks old, less steady, and sometimes he jumbles his words. Trump on the other hand looks less old because he colors his hair and is always fake tanned, but Trump is obese, is unsteady at times, and regularly says crazy shit. From appearances, if one was to gauge each one’s life expectancy, based on physical appearances alone, Biden would probably be expected to live longer. Now, what about being fit to be President? Biden appears to have “lower energy” than Trump and being President certainly requires a lot of energy. No one who has not direct interacted with Biden can really attest to his ability to process information, make informed judgments on consequential matter, and multi-task. But, advantage Biden in terms of both experience and willingness to approach decisions with an open mind knowing that the people around him are much better versed on many issues than he is. What we know about Trump from reports from those who interacted with him as President is that he has a short attention span, get quickly board with briefings, and has both suspicion and contempt in regard to the very experts who he has access to who are paid to make sure that the President has the very best and most current information. So, with all of this, based on what an outsider knows about the two candidates, the safest bet in regard to both life expectancy and the ability to process information and make informed judgments, I would think that it is pretty clear that Biden would be the best choice.

Well, that’s certainly possible (nobody outside the inner circle in the DNC knows for sure), though I suspect the reason for the very early debate at the end of this month is for the power-brokers to make the decision – send him on through to Chicago or pull him out. I don’t believe Biden himself has any say in the matter, that decision will be made for him. And I think if they do try to send him through all the way to November, it’s because they’re going to allow Harris to take the wheel during the second term and place their desired choice in the VP slot through nomination/confirmation (Hillary? say it isn’t so!).
Tell you what, I don’t understand why the DNC isn’t developing a bench of potential prez candidates, or at least it sure doesn’t seem that way. Looking at the 2020 Dem field, absolutely none of them save Tulsi Gabbard was any good, and they didn’t want her (too normal).

Here’s the thing Mish, this focus on which candidate is the most feeble or the most cognitively impaired is truly not the most important question. Both candidates are likely physically fit enough and cognitively alert enough to function as President. The most important question, because it is what informs all of a President’s decisions, from appointments to policy is which candidate has the highest level of demonstrated character.
If Biden wins again we may end up with two more SCOTUS justices who cannot tell us what a woman is.

Dump her, and there would not only be an internal civil war given that the replacement would be a white man, but to dump ANY sitting VP when the president is unavailable, no matter who it is, has a very negative precedent. The most recent was 1952, when the Ds dumped Barkley for Adlai Stevenson. And they were both white men.
This only reinforces my view that, barring his being sentenced to prison in July, Trump will cruise to a big win if he can only restrain his mouth. Does he even realize that he could win in a fucking landslide by showing a level of self discipline that absolutely no one expects? That’s a big if, and I am hardly optimistic. I have never seen any evidence that he is capable of self control. My favorite example would be an early small one, when he disputed the factual crowd estimates at his inauguration.
