US and Israeli actions have changed public opinion in Iran from being against obtaining nuclear weapons to strongly favoring it. After long time I like to drop a comment again and may give you a few hints from the “front line” (yes, I am still here in Oman and the UAE).
Everybody is talking about Oil – rightfully – and… Bessent Says “the Strait Will Become Irrelevant”.
Sure, it may take some years, but I see how fast the works on the BAB-Fujairah pipeline capacity expansion is going. Almost half of the second 48” pipeline is already complete and next year this expansion will be most propably up and running. Then the link will have 3.6 mill. bpd.
ADNOC has requested the contractors to extend construction capacity. It’s a high, high political issue.
And… a third pipe is now in the tendering stage but they are still thinking of an alternate route probably to Oman -> that would mean the UAE is hellbent of bypassing the Strait with their full capacity.
Meanwhile, my contacts in Kuwait reported that Oil production in the Kuwait Oilfields is pretty down with the storage tanks full and many of the oil wells for the time being shut-in.
But… I see something nobody is looking YET.
Abu Dhabi will get their Oil out somehow. But nobody is thinking how their “brothers” will do -> and here in particular Dubai and Bahrain… and Oman -> because their second leg is… Tourism.
My eyes are in particular on the Cruise Ships.
Do you know how many of them are circling in the gulf here during season? Well, here a tip -> during peak season approx. 20 cruise liners circling here. Often, I see them here in Muscat – 3 (sometimes even 4) ships – parking in the Mutrah port.
Well, do you remember all the cruise liners that were trapped in the gulf?
This year, ALL operators have cancelled their tours. But if the strait opens again – with toll fee – what will happen then?
A 1Mill US$ transit fee per ship would put between 600 to 1000$ extra on each tourist package. That’s something between 50-110% increase. Cruising through the middle east will be suddenly not so attractive anymore. And this damage will be permanent.
Oman is quiet… because I sense their leaders are pretty comfortable with the outcome (of getting a share of the toll fee without having ever fought for it). But Dubai and in particular Bahrain will feel the pain.
Bahrain suffers extremely – cannot export the little oil/gas they have AND no cruise tourism.
Saudi will see this as an opportunity of taking a share from Dubai’s tourists. Since Dubai’s income… is not oil, not tourism… no, no… it is selling the properties they build like crazy (leveraged of course) to either international investors or agencies that rent them to the expats. A tourism downturn will throw the proverbial “spanner into the gearbox” by triggering a chain reaction Tourism down -> foreign expats that invest in Tourism infrastructure… down -> these expats will not stay/come -> hence property sale/rental down -> state revenue down.
That will even put some oil on the tensions (if not to say fire) between Saudi and the UAE. How that all works out has to be seen. One thing is clear – Iran definitely emerges out of this malaise much stronger than before.

Pipelines are miserable targets. They are 3m underground and very thin lines 1/20th of the accuracy of a high precision missile.
If someone wants to do something… look for the processing plant with the manifolds. They are Hughe, above ground and also immobile.
But on the other hand, Iran does not have that much of a problem with the Emiratis. If they would have… they would have struck much much much more critical targets there in March and April.

The Saudis just signed a mutual security agreement with Pakistan and Turkey.
There is no other event that more clearly shows America’s loss of prestige and power than the Gulf states that were once US vassals and under America’s protective umbrella forging regional security arrangements.

The idea that they want to invade Poland or any western europeon country is ridiculous (the Baltics should watch their P’s and Q’s, though). My team members are far from dumb. And I think it is far from certain how the Ukraine war plays out. Either country could suddenly collapse, but more likely this will go on for longer and more destruction and death happens while Russia gains minimal ground.

The shift to a Peace economy will be very painful. By invading Ukraine Russia has also shown it is not a rational actor that bases it’s actions on intelligence. They see NATO as wavering. So, to simply dismiss the idea that they would attack Eastern Europe in that dynamic is silly.

If there was a viable military solution for the closure of the strait, the US would have taken it already.
The Trump administration really has no good options here. Giving up the control of the Strait to Iran will deal a massive political blow to the administration and will mark the end of the US global military hegemony. It will also royally screw our vassal Gulf countries.

Each Patriot interceptor costs around $4 million. Each THAAD interceptor costs around $12 million. That is the cost for ONE missile fired. The US usually fires around 2-4 interceptors against every incoming Iranian missile, in order to ensure a near 100% kill rate.
The most common Iranian ballistic missiles (Emad, Qiam-1, Shahab-3) cost between $250K to $1 million. Their next gen hypersonic missiles (Fattah-1, Kheibar Shekan), that even the THAAD have a hard time intercepting due to their “dancing” capabilities, costs around $3 million a piece.
The Iranian missiles are designed for simplicity and ease of manufacture. They use solid fuel, standardized parts and off the shelf consumer grade electronics that provide ‘good enough’ precision at very low costs. So opening the Gulf could end up being an empty victory if there is no longer any oil to be shipped.

After the meeting was over due to Trump’s responses on increasing nuclear armaments, Afghanistan, etc., Tillerson called him a moron.
Tillerson was right and you are wrong. The facts speak for themselves. Trump lost this war on day 1 because no one was there to brief him that was willing to say no or circumvent his addled mind into saying ok and do nothing of importance, or kiss his ass and tell him how smart he is but let’s wait till the US can rebuild its arsenal, get more allies on board, brief Congress, etc.

Prior to the existence of Trump in the White House the Straight was open and free and Iran was under IAEA safeguards and was not actively developing a nuclear weapon or enriching above 5%.
BS!. The Iranian Regime was not allowing the IAEA in. Which of course, increased suspiciousness about what they were up to with their nuclear program. I wish there were away to administer an electric shock to people like yourself who post uninformed, misinformation!
Perhaps looking back at all the damage that Iran ahs suffered and the decimation of their prior leadership, the Iranian Regime might think that they made some bad choices.
