The Wall Street Journal reports Trump Rejects Iran Ceasefire, Expects Renewed Bombing After Midterms
President Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and has told aides he expects to resume bombing Iran after the November midterms, U.S. officials said.
Tehran’s proposal would have reopened the Strait of Hormuz and resumed nuclear talks in return for the U.S. lifting its blockade of Iranian ports, which is causing deep damage to the country’s economy. Trump says openly that Tehran is begging for a deal after the midterms that dismantles its nuclear program.
But privately Trump was skeptical Iran would meet his demands and has told his staff that he sees a renewed bombing campaign as likely, the officials said.
After this article was published, a reporter asked Trump on Saturday about the offer. “I’m rejecting their deal,” he said
Trump told the United Nations this week politics don’t enter his mind when aiming to pry nuclear fuel from Iran.
“The Republican Party is running, and I’ll be helping them, but I am not running. I gave absolutely no credence and will not give credence through the election when it comes to Iran,” he told world leaders during the annual General Assembly in New York. “The only thing that does is that Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump has also told Republicans to pretend he is on the ballot when they head to the polls.
Why the Iran Peace Offer?
- To make Trump look bad.
- Iran is economically hurting.
I suspect both, but definitely number one.
Iran’s terms were everyhing on the MOU and more. So Trump could never accept it.
But by offering to discuss, with Trump immediately rejecting, suggests to the American public who is sick of the war, where the problem is.

Trump signed an MOU with Iran after much negoiation months ago. Trump has not completed any of the terms of that signed MOU. Now Trump is skeptical of Iran not meeting agreements? Clown Show in the Whitehouse.

re: “Iran’s terms were everyhing on the MOU and more”. I have not seen the exact terms of the latest proposal, as I don’t think they’ve been published. However, everything I’ve heard suggests that Iran is not asking for anything materially different from the MOU, other than timing/sequencing. They are no longer willing to trust upfront that the U.S. will honor commitments (as MOU terms were immediately violated). As a result, the U.S. would be required to fulfill all commitments BEFORE the SOH is opened. Also, the latest offer suggested the possibility of an accelerated timeline (one week instead of 30 or 60 days), yet requires clear fulfillment of commitments.
TBH, Trump probably increased the likelihood that Iran takes the initiative and strikes U.S. forces, GCC collaborators and Israel hard before the mid-terms. Trump and Netanyahu clearly signal they are going to continue the war, and Iran has threatened pre-emptive strikes if they detect build-up for further military action. Pepe Escobar is also reporting that Iran’s proposal came with a Sept 30 deadline (I don’t see this reported by MSM). If Trump rejects the proposal (as it looks he has), once that deadline is reached Iran has a free hand to re-engage, expand the war and with new weapons. They now say they can strike vessels even in the Indian Ocean, and I do not doubt this.
I saw the list on X. But I don’t recall if it was from Iran, yet believable.
What kind of POTUS gives the adversary six weeks lead time.
One who wants to devote 6 weeks to the election.
Also that’s 6 weeks for the US to build more stuff too and our budget and manufacturing is much larger than theirs is. The US will be building lots of drones of it’s own now that its clear the future is drone warfare and this gives 6 more weeks of production.
I wouldn’t count on it. Iran is certainly more capable of building more (and newer) ballistic missiles and drones than the U.S. is capable of replacing interceptors and precision weapons (w/ multi-year lead times and rare earth shortages, thanks to Chinese export controls). Even if U.S. didn’t have the supply chain issues, it wouldn’t make a difference as we’re not building anything up to the task. Iran has hardened underground facilities which can even withstand nuclear strikes. What we can strike are soft civilian targets and infrastructure/gas facilities, but Iran has promised to take out Gulf infrastructure once that happens.
But as I commented previously, I don’t think Trump has 6 weeks. Iran gave a deadline and is primed to take the initiative.

Point taken, but it doesn’t matter. Iran certainly has intelligence gathering on the ground, as well as access to Chinese satellite surveillance. They will be aware of any major military preparations.
