Fox News reports White House TV pool to suspend coverage of Trump events
White House television pool members FOX News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN and NBC News announced Monday they have agreed to suspend their pooled coverage of President Donald Trump after he banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico, accusing the three outlets of publishing “fake news.”
Monday had been CNN’s turn to serve as White House pool representative. The pool members have long taken turns covering the president and sharing footage.
“The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting,” the pool members, FOX News Media, ABC News, CBS News, CNN and NBC News, said in a joint statement.

The New York Times reports 3 News Outlets Sue Trump in Widening Fight Over Press Freedom
CNN, MS NOW and Politico filed a legal challenge on Monday against President Trump’s order barring them from the White House grounds, the latest battle in a fight over journalistic independence instigated by the president. Four major TV networks said they were suspending their shared coverage of presidential events in response to the president’s action.
The three outlets argued in their lawsuit that Mr. Trump’s ban, which he imposed over what he sees as negative news media coverage, violates the First Amendment. The case was assigned to a federal judge who was nominated by Mr. Trump who previously sided with CNN when the White House attempted to expel one of its White House reporters in 2018.
The New York Times announced a gesture of support for the three media outlets barred on Saturday from the White House grounds: It will hold off publishing or distributing “any images taken as part of the White House still photography pool today” until midnight. That includes photos of President Trump’s departure from Washington en route to New York for an appearance before the U.N. General Assembly.
“We remain committed to covering the president’s travel to New York City today,” Charlie Stadtlander, a Times spokesman, said. “Americans deserve a free and independent media covering their government without intimidation, as well as comprehensive coverage of newsworthy events.”

Now that the entire pool is either banned or self-banned, let’s see how long Trump can go without a press to put Trump in the spotlight.
I hope the court takes its sweet time so Trump gets no pool coverage at all.

This business of an oligopoly thinking it is the whole thing reminds me of the education industry. A lot of people in education are not particularly bright, but they think they have the authority to decide what is and is not true, and to inform the masses of it. The big media organizations are the same.
Medicine was corporatized generations ago. It is slowly being turned into a cash cow for the drug companies. I suppose this is inevitable when business adapts to a fascist political environment.
Religion in the West was corporatized by the Emperor Constantine about 1600 years ago.
I hope Trump succeeds in breaking the corporate monopoly over news.
The big media organizations are all controlled by the same people, just acting through different financial firms. If Trump wanted to break up the corporate monopoly over the media, he would need to get Congress to pass laws making sure that large shareholders can’t have interests in multiple media organizations, even through various shell companies, and give actual journalists some independence from corporate control.
Trump is decidedly not trying to break any media monopolies. He is just mad because some folks won’t take his word as gospel. He is no smarter than that.
California canceled citizen journalist Nick Shirley and i haven’t heard of the main stream media standing up for his First Amendment journalist rights.

And even then, the President is under no obligation to actually answer, truthfully or at all. A President has no obligation to call on anyone in particular, or to respond to any particular question (Joe Biden showed this daily). If you don’t have the right to ask, or the right to be answered, then surely you don’t have a right to be in the room. Ridiculous pearl clutching. All press has access to video feeds and can report on what everyone sees. Being in the room has nothign to do with freedon of speech or freedom of the press.

This election is shaping up to be a train wreck of historic dimensions for Republicans. Trump’s approval numbers are dropping through the low 30’s, gas has doubled in price, grocery prices are obscene, the war in the Middle East seems to be spreading, and ICE is shooting people in the back in Texas.
Any time there’s a swing state you can count on ICE to be there to remind voters who to vote for in less than fifty days. It’s really genius stuff when you think about it! Do you support shooting people here legally (victim had a work order and was, in fact, here legally. They just revoked it in secret and didn’t tell him!) or do you support law and order. Anyone supporting the former should be sent to a reeducation camp before this gets uglier.
No doubt ICE will be in force in Blue precincts in swing districts. and blue areas of swing states for senators……….by election 2028 it will be much worse. a few states will secede by jan 20, 2029.

The Murdoch family’s Daily Mail has been distancing itself from Trump, Hegseth, etc. just recently, with critical articles on them. Wall Street Journal has various voices. I don’t follow FOX content, so I’m not so sure about that. I recall previous intervals when some Murdoch properties distanced from Trump, following public opinion, but came back into his fold.

I’m not arguing for Trump banning news organizations, I want no President to do that. There is no bigger supporter of freedom of the press than me. I’m a strong supporter of all civil liberties.
The press is acting remarkably united here, and Fox is standing up for the banned organizations in the same way they stood up for Fox in 2019.
I’m just pointing out that this is not a new Uniparty tactic. Yes, Trump always does things much more brazenly, openly, and more aggressively, but that is how Democrats will probably behave when they take power again (i.e., it will be the new normal). Presidents often communicate through their press secretaries, that’s why they have them.
