How to Start an Unnecessary War in Three Easy Steps, 12 Important Corollaries

Step-by-Step Instructions

Three Easy Steps

  • Listen to Netanyahu
  • Set conditions impossible for Iran (any nation) to accept
  • Launch an attack with Isreal

In retrospect, it’s one easy step: Listen to Netanyahu.

Major Trump Corollaries

  1. Ignore the overwhelming opinion of US citizens
  2. Listen to the Neocons
  3. Ignore the fact that you have already declared total destruction of Iran’s ability to create nuclear weapons
  4. Ignore the fact that regime change by bombing alone has never been successful.
  5. Ignore that fact that all regime change efforts by the US have failed, many spectacularly
  6. Ignore the advice of the international community
  7. Ignore your own statements on the futility of war in the mideast
  8. Ignore the statements of Vice President JD Vance
  9. Ignore the advice of US military leaders, former leaders, and politicians who once made sense.
  10. Ignore history and what happened in Iraq and the cost of Afghanistan
  11. Ignore the fact that replenishing weapons will be very costly and drive up budget deficits
  12. Ignore repercussions in the oil markets despite the number one concern of US citizens is inflation

Going back to the top, one has to wonder “What does Netanyahu have on Trump, or is this war simply more neocon madness?”

Regarding Corollary #8

VP Vance Facebook Reel

https://www.facebook.com/reel/1496192831934163

“Our interest is very much is in not going to war with Iran.”

Regarding Corollary #3

Regarding Corollary #9 Someone Who Once Made Sense

Regarding Corollary #7 Trump’s Own Advice

The Pro-Peace Ticket – Corollaries 7 and 8

To repeat, one has to wonder “What does Netanyahu have on Trump, or is this war simply more neocon madness?”

This war is as nonsensical as the War in Vietnam, the War in Afghanistan, and the second war with Iraq by George W. Bush.

All signs point to this being a war of choice, sponsored by Trump, with pressure from Israel and the neocons, always demanding war.

Important Historical References

For historical reference, please consider my September 9, 2013 post U.S. Going to Kill Syrians to Show Syria that Killing Syrians is Wrong.

Quote of the day goes to Abby Martin who says “We’re killing Syrians to Show Syria that Killing Syrians is Wrong. I just cannot wrap my head around that“.

Galloway was discussing this: Village ‘liberated’ by rebels… who then forced Christians to convert to Islam.

Also recall my June 15, 2014 post Tony Blair’s Disingenuous, Self-Serving Analysis of Iraq

Blair is now out to revise history in an attempt to absolve himself of guilt.

In October of 2015, I noted Tony Blair Apologizes for Creation of ISIS

Blair acknowledged that there are “elements of truth” in the view that the 2003 invasion of Iraq was the principal cause of the rise of ISIS.

Guilty as Charged

That is as big of a “We f*d up!” admission from a high ranking bureaucrat as you will ever see.

Don’t expect the same admission from president Bush, even though Bush is the single person most responsible for that inane war and this mess.

Don’t expect any apologies from president Obama either for his role in the mess. While we’re at it, don’t expect any apologies from warmonger Hillary Clinton either.

If I failed to offend you, then hopefully it’s because you correctly understood from the beginning how stupid that rush to war really was.

My position has been consistent, clear, and correct.

I opposed the Wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, the second war in Iraq, and the misguided toppling of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi (sponsored by Hillary) from the beginning.

Trump is either a liar, a converted neocon, or both.

Step 2 does not really apply.
FM Araghchi actually uttered the words (no nuke in perpetuity) of which Trump said he hadn’t said the magic words.

There is another reason for Trump to wage a war, same reason he imputed to Obama: polls.

Trump is throwing the dice hoping he can turn the polls around by finally pulling something off that US Presidents have not dared to execute for 50 years.

Complete desperation. All or nothing.

Iran told all their proxies to prepare for war and await further instructions. Iran planned to have a nuclear weapon first for self protection. All proxies would attack with rockers and men at the same time—HAMAS attacked early thus destroying Iran’s plans

I don’t agree with most of what Trump does, the question that I ask myself is in the minds of extreme religious zealots like the leadership of the Iranian Government, what would be the highest achievement they could hope for? I think without question the answer is the total destruction of Israel. If that really is their highest goal and desire in life, than the ONLY thing stopping them is to keep them from getting the material to create a Nuclear weapon.

If they truly believe what they say about their desire for the destruction of Israel than most likely as soon as they can build a Nuclear bomb they will use it. Not use it as a deterrent, not use it as a defensive weapon but actually use it to wipe a Nation off the face of the earth. Is it just talk? There is no second chance if it isn’t just talk.

A couple of Khamenei quotes.

It is the mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to erase Israel from the map of the region.

Israel is a hideous entity in the middle east which will undoubtedly be annihilated.

There is only one possible solution to unrest in the Middle East], namely the annihilation and destruction of the Zionist state.

From now on, in any place, if any nation or any group confronts the Zionist regime, we will endorse and we will help. We have no fear expressing this… The Zionist regime is a cancerous tumor that must be removed, and God willing it will be.

Under that premise they would only need one. They have had decades & the national wealth to purchase a few or more nuclear weapons a much easier path than building them from scratch.

Mish, I see below that you say that something is wrong even if it allegedly works. I see you also ban somebody, what for I don’t know because you have apparently blocked the post you banned him for. I have had the honor of being banned by Caitlin Johnstone: I suppose you don’t know who she is, but she is a very fierce Australian Communist girl who is occasionally published on <rense> and <zerohedge>.

I don’t see how you can say something is wrong even if it works. If that were so, we would have to TRY TO overthrow all governments, because government is inherently a criminal activity. We would have to defund the police as the leftists want. We would have to demand that our mixed-up, brainwashed population suddenly become experts on morality who could read and intelligently discuss Machiavelli and Nietzsche. AND they would have to be strong enough physically to hold their own in a fight, because there would be no police to take our responsibility for self-defense off us.

I am not happy about the Israeli mistreatment of the Palestinians, but here in Australia, as in America, we seem to accept that Jews are nice, civilized people, like us, but Palestinians are savages and undeserving of consideration. The fact that Palestinian refugees are not wild tribesmen but are farmers who have been driven off their land doesn’t matter.

If I were being cynical, I might suggest that Semitic Israel and Semitic-controlled America, now joined it seems by the Semitic Moslem states of Arabia, have united to destroy Aryan Persia. The word “Iran” is their version of our word “Aryan,” I understand.

The Chinese, who I think see America as stolen Chinese property, with the Jews as the thieves, must find all this rather amusing.

The great thing about Trump is that what he does, does work. It might take him more than one try sometimes. Like Bismarck, he will probably leave plenty of problems behind for his successors to deal with. Let us hope that his successors aren’t as stupid as Bismarck’s successors were. We might also hope that they won’t be as stupid as President Reagan’s successors and Baroness Thatcher’s successors were.

If anyone can point out any errors in my thinking, I may not be pleased but I shall eventually be grateful.

The harder they come, the harder they fall!

President Trump said Sunday the U.S. military destroyed nine Iranian warships and is in the process of destroying the rest of Iran’s navy.

Why it matters: The U.S. strikes target Iran’s ability to close the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway through which roughly a fifth of the world’s oil supply flows.

What he’s saying: “I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important. We are going after the rest. They will soon be floating at the bottom of the sea, also! In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters. Other than that, their Navy is doing very well!” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday.

You think Iran needs their navy to close the straight? It’s only 20 miles across. They can pop off missiles from the shoreline like the Houthis – except they have a lot more missiles and a lot more people to fire them. And once they destroy the Gulf Arabs’ ports there won’t be any oil coming out anyway.

What real Iranians have to say!

Trump and Netanyahu Are Doing the Free World a Favor

March 1, 2026, 2:00 p.m. ET

By Bret Stephens

President Trump is being criticized from many quarters for his decision to join Israel in a war to topple the Iranian regime, which on Saturday yielded the killing of the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The reasons vary.

It’s “a betrayal of the American people,” says Elizabeth Warren, who warns that the intervention risks dragging “yet another generation into a forever war.” It’s a betrayal of MAGA principles, says Marjorie Taylor Greene, who denounced Trump for putting “America last.” It’s unconstitutional, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, because it’s being conducted without authorization from Congress. It’s unnecessary, according to the writer Andrew Sullivan, who (quoting me, albeit misleadingly) thinks that Iran isn’t much of a threat and the war is being waged for Israel’s sake.

And so on.

But one country where the United States and Israel are garnering broad support is the same country that’s being bombed.

“Everyone is joyful, it is one of the best days of probably 95 percent of Iranians’ lives,” one Iranian resident of the city of Karaj told The Wall Street Journal about Khamenei’s death. “We bolted outside and shouted from the top of our lungs and laughed and danced with our neighbors,” a woman in Tehran named Sara told The Times. A doctor who lost his son when the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane in 2020 wrote on social media, “We will endure the winter, spring is near.” In the city of Shiraz, videos showed people “joined together in a cheer that is typically reserved for weddings, symbolizing pure joy.”

Don’t forget, Trump expects them to not only overthrow their own government, but also to align themselves with the same people who bombed them – and who, of course, are the same people who overthrew their elected government in 1953, foisted the Shah (and Savak) on them, gave Saddam mustard gas to kill Iranians and sanctioned them for decades. Israel doesn’t expect the Iranians to do anything. Israel just wants all the countries in the region to lay in ruins.

OPEC digging deep to help contain any sharp oil price increases:

Oil markets open soon. Pre-market action currently indicates a 15% price increase. Not a prediction. Too much volatility to make predictions.

Every day that the flow of oil through the strait of Hormuz is impeded, will put increasing pressure on both prices and supplies.

I will likely be selling portions of my positions over the next week to lock-in gains, as I don’t expect this to last more than a week or two.

Those that were predicting a glut of oil this year and were short the market are going to take a beating.

The big question, of course, is whether this is a one-and-done affair, which is assumed by American Exceptionalists. However, the behaviour of Iran is different this time – taking out radar and logistics facilities across the region: that is a strategy one would employ in anticipation of a long conflict. This could be the perfect opportunity for China: American ships are in the Persian Gulf. They have no escape unless Iran is beaten. The US will have to expend resources that they cannot spare, from around the world, to sustain the war, to protect their assets and avoid a political disaster. Can Iran sustain the war long enough? With China’s assistance, they certainly can. What has China got to lose? What have they got to gain? Everything. A prolonged war would see oil well in excess of $100. That would hurt China, but hurt the US/West more. Much of the “inventory build” in oil is oil either owned or destined for China, which the US SPR is empty. Like you, I have a major position in oil and services, and gold, and market shorts, in anticipation of this inevitable (Zionist-driven) event. I am just not sure of the timeline or extent, and whether to take profits. Is the market being too complacent based upon past experience? Or is it greedy to wait for the “bigger play”? I honestly don’t know, but I suspect this is a bigger event than the markets and pundits are expecting, as evidenced by some of the comments here. Good luck.

They have a lot of options. Meanwhile we’re maintaining a city’s worth of people halfway across the planet. We bring them home, Iran can hit the bases and make them come back. Russia will be backing them.

PapaDave

My expectation is a one to two week partial disruption in oil shipments. 4 weeks at most.

There are no winners here among countries, no matter what they may say.

China can tap its strategic oil reserves for a while, but a lot of their oil imports go through the strait of Hormuz from Saudi and others. They do not want this to go on too long.

The US is burning through a lot of money and resources. The longer this lasts, the more it costs Trump politically.

Iran has only so many available munitions left. They can’t last more than a few weeks.

Within a month, this will mostly be over, and nothing much will have changed in Iran, though Trump will crow about his amazing success there. There will be some kind of regime change, perhaps for the better for Iranians. But who knows how long that will work out.

The focus will then change to Cuba and Greenland.

I will be taking “some” profits over the next few weeks, because I expect oil prices to go back to the low 70s once this is done. Though who knows what the next crisis will turn out to be.

Glenn Greenwald has summarized, “For decades, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and American neoconservatives have dreamed of only one foreign policy goal: having the United States fight a regime-change war against Iran. With the Oval Office occupied by Donald Trump — who campaigned for a full decade on a vow to end regime-change wars and vanquish neoconservatism — their goal has finally been realized.”

Two good things will come out of this. Quid pro quo. First it made it open season globally on governmental leaders & politicians enabling this nonsense instead of the unwashed. Second Iran didn’t fold and keeps attacking.

Assassinating The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei could turn into a jihad. Iran has a population tenfold more than Israel.

Listen to Netanyahu

Set conditions impossible for Iran (any nation) to accept

Launch an attack with Isreal

In retrospect, it’s one easy step: Listen to Netanyahu.”

Is this going to be another Iraq? Knock off the current bad leader and create a power vacuum so ISIS or some other worse dude can takeover. Shouldn’t the US have had some group waiting in the wings to try and put together a friendly government before just coming in with guns blazing?

Regime change in 1945 worked pretty well.

I think Bush’s version didn’t work mostly because Dick Cheney was whispering in his ear. It might not work this time either but it will have cost a bit less to fail.

Really? European nations were displaced as the world’s most influential powers with the US and Russia becoming the world’s most influential powers; each with over 5000 nuclear weapons. And a decades long cold war began.

That’s what you think worked out pretty well?

Vance’s political career is over. Only way he salvages it is when Trump gets stomped in midterms, then he pushes Trump out with the help of the Democrats. In other words, he helps get Trump impeached and campaigns as the common sense, no war President that Trump pretended to be. Trump is finished.

I completely disagree with these actions and the supposed reasons given for them. Though there is a fair bit of ignorance about Iran being displayed in the comments here.

Iran is a vastly different society that Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria. Those countries were countries that had minimal social fabric and were held together by dictators.

Iran has extensive social fabric and a educated and sophisticated population. A large percentage of whom do not support their theocratic leaders. Regime chance has a much larger chance of ‘working’ here than say in Afghanistan.

Though that alone is not a great reason for war. I know another country that beats and shoots it citizens in the street. Another leader who has flagrant regard for democracy or any care about the citizen of the country.

Greater good would have been accomplish by getting rid of the Trump government and installing a functional government that governs for their people rather than themselves.

What’s your evidence that a “large majority” of the population does not support their theocratic leaders?

“Attitudes toward President Pezeshkian were as positive in October 2025 as they were in the honeymoon period right after he took office. Almost two-thirds regarded him favorably, and majorities remained confident he could advance most aspects of his agenda. Roughly half trusted the authorities of the Islamic Republic. Three-quarters of respondents still want policymakers to take religious teachings into account. However, two-thirds of respondents said that women who do not observe hijab should not be confronted.”

Three ways to prevent upcoming violence in three effortless steps and ensure the world is safer place.

1)      Let radical Islam go from the Mediterranean Sea to the Galilee and create the second holocaust. No Jews – no problems.
2)     Let Iran have a nuclear weapon and ballistic missiles to threaten Europe and potentially the US. Watch the rest of the Mideast turn into a nuclear playground with crazy religious zealots that are not afraid to die and take their population with them. Think 13th Imam. Think of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, UAE and Jordan with nuclear weapons.
3)     Impede Israel from defending themselves like the Biden administration to prolong the war and suffering of the people of Gaza before aid can be brought in. Stand back and order the military not to do anything while the thugs of Gaza steal food and fuel intended for its people.
This sounds like a better plan.

Trump totally owns this, it will blow up in his face. There will be no regime change, how long will the bombing continue? How many Iranian operatives came to the US under Biden’s open border policy that will result in major terrorist attacks in the US? Rising gas prices will add to the working and middle class’s affordability misery. Everything this fool does guarantees a midterm drubbing of Republicans, deservingly so.

Americans have been brainwashed to accept the idea that it’s OK for the U.S. and Israel to have nuclear weapons, but it’s not OK for Iran (or whatever other countries) to have them. It’s bizarre thinking.

The whole nuclear weapons thing is a ruse anyway. War is never about what they say it is. The war on Iran is about oil and China.

Speaking of oil, the Strait of Hormuz is now closed for all practical purposes, no matter if Iran did or did not say so officially. I hope MAGA is ready for record high gasoline prices. Can’t wait to see how they defend that.

The first victims of war are the children and elderly. They die horrific deaths and their suffering and blood is on the hands of the aggressor.

In this case the aggressor is BiBi (Israel) and his Epstein pawn: Trump.

The vast majority of the U.S. is against this war. Iran was no threat and Trump already declared that their nuclear ambitions were “Obliterated”. Iran can not defend itself, nor can it attack the U.S. in any meaningful way.

There is no rationale for this war, no authority, and no endgame. Trump is in the wrong and all Americans will pay for it.

China has ended all shipments of rare-earths and strategic materials to the US.

Trump is actively bringing about the downfall of the U.S.

WHY?

“My position has been consistent, clear, and correct.”

Maybe you should re-read your many articles on the NATO – Russia war in Ukraine and the (aggressive and violent) options that you thought the US had at its disposal to force Russia at the very least to a ceasefire but Trump was too indecisive and weak to take…

Well, let’s look at the bright side of this umpeenth American war: it won’t be a superpower like Russia or China but a (strong) regional power like Iran to show the many people (like for example you and most of your readers) still under the influence of Western propaganda and brainwashing the real state of the rapidly declining superpower that the US truly is…

I don’t know what you know or think you know but the Iranians are hitting relentlessly Israelis and Americans throughout the whole region, they have hit and closed, among the others, the 4 biggest airports in the region including the second biggest in the world by volume of passengers: DXB. They have closed the Strait of Hormuz (can’t wait for the markets to open tomorrow). They have just hit even a French naval base in Bahrein. The Americans have just admitted to have sustained the first losses.

As I wrote in the comment section of your first article on this new Judeo-American war: this is going to be the USA’s FAFO moment. FINALLY.
And I’m stoked.

So far absolutely nothing has been hit that won’t be replaced (minus of course dead people) in 5 minutes once Iran stops firing what little they have.

Caught a sniper’s bullet in Iraq through his spinal cord at the ripe old age of 25 and has been a quadriplegic now for over 19 years. It was reassuring watching the land he was patrolling change hands about 5 times after he was injured. This isn’t a new thing. All US wars since the War of 1812 have been wars of choice, properly analyzed. And since FDR manipulated the US in WWII, the US has been the most war-like nation on the planet.

Agreed. And from a US point of view, the sooner the better since at the moment the US maintains a vast military edge that China is gradually eroding.

This plus Venezuela and recent oil field developments in Iraq using US companies (over China and Russian ones) makes me think the US is moving to restrict oil shipments to China to retaliate for rare earths.
