Trump Says “Let them [Iran] take out Los Angeles or San Diego”

I fail to see how such madness is supposed to win votes.

Nebraska Rally Announcement

At a Nebraska rally, Trump called higher prices a “small price to pay” before suggesting allowing Iran to “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego.

X Comments

  • What the F*** did I just hear?
  • I know it’s worn-out and tired, but imagine if a Democrat talked about rural states like Mississippi or Alabama or West Virginia the way that Republicans talk about Los Angeles, New York, Chicago or San Diego? It would be a multi-day story about how Democrats hate America.
  • Does this stinking pile of fetid orange flesh know about the miltary presence in San Diego?? I guess Republicans don’t #SupportOurMilitary nor miltary families. #NavalBaseSanDiego #NavalBaseCoronado
  • What insanity is this?
  • Whatever he meant, a Commander in Chief should never talk this way about the people he swore to protect.
  • Our servicemembers sacrifice everything for us, and he just told the world their hometowns are expendable.
  • The amount of hate Canadians have for this fascist overlord of bulls**t is immeasurable. He’s by far the most universally despised American in Canadian history. “F*** Trump” is our new national anthem.

With such insane comments, lots of people suggest he has dimentia etc…

I suggest a simpler explanation. He rose to power and has held on to power by echoing the word that his supporters and sychophants to hear. Plenty of other leaders/dictators have trod the same path without reaching ages where mental decline is expected.

The problems comes when that that circle of supporters and sychophants shrinks. When that occurs leaders loose touch with the majority. Propaganda and oppression can keep such leaders in power. Trump has tried modest methods here. (Modest by historical standards, not modest but US democracy standards)

He is losing support because he is listening only to the echo chamer of sychopants and die hard supporters.

Comments such as “Let them [Iran] take out Los Angeles or San Diego” will bring cheers from die hards. But most rational civilians (hopefully) are see the insantiy.

(I don’t think he is ‘insane’ just an idiot that will say anything that he thinks will please his worshippers.)

There’s a lot of truth to your post. Trump discovered via “The Apprentice” that there were a a huge number of fans out there who were hungry for a ‘tough guy’ who would verbalize the conspiracy theorists and liked his racist dog whistles, like the Obama birtherist stuff.

Then he honed his speech lines in real time at his rallies.

Problem is, his supporters actually believed he would govern competently.

I have a boomer Uncle, die hard Trumper, who raised 4 gen x kids to be as stupid as he is and only one broke free partially. He was the “patriarch” so he desperately tried to get the extended family into his stupidity and mostly failed. No one but the cult members talk to this clown anymore. His health aint great so maybe when he goes bye-bye his kids wont play along anymore but who know how deep the cult cut is here.

So when I blame the boomers, it extends beyond the boomer generation to the mess they created with their own offspring.

And trump picked up the Latino and Black vote but that too is in tatters now.

When i was a kid i was watching wrestling on tv. It was the american vs russians theme at the time. My dad walked by and said when he was a kid it was the Japanese. Flash forward to my twenties. Started noticing the republicans always got to have some bad guy or threat to unite behind.
Its got worse over the years. Think its the rise of conservative talk shows. The money from the very wealthy is root cause. Because the very wealthy need a number of voters to keep their people in office. I hope trump is so bad the republican voters are waking up to the facts they are being duped. We would be way better off if voters held their politicians to the same standards as the opposition.

You can track the progress of society in cinema as a parallel to politics.

1970s: Paranoia, social upheaval, and the “anti‑hero”
The 1970s are often seen as Hollywood’s most cynical and politically charged decade, shaped by Vietnam, Watergate, inflation, and civil rights/feminist movements.

1980s: Reaganism, greed, Cold War, and spectacle
The 1980s saw a turn toward big budgets, high concept stories, and more overt ideology, influenced by Reagan/Thatcher conservatism, renewed Cold War tensions, and rising consumer culture.

1990s: Global threats, irony, and indie realism
Post–Cold War, the 1990s mix glossy genre entertainment with a rise in independent cinema, often marked by irony, self‑awareness, and more explicit treatment of social issues.

2000s (2000–2009): Post‑9/11 anxiety, globalization, and fractured identities
After 2001, cinema is heavily shaped by 9/11, the “War on Terror,” rapid globalization, and digital culture, alongside continuing identity politics.

The last 10 years have been “savior” complex with Marvel movies showcasing “heros” like Spiderman, Ironman, Avengers, etc because everyone wants to be saved by a superhero. Trump rolled right into that one for MAGA morons.

No one is going to save you guys except YOU.

This is oblique, stupid, data-free, “imminent threat” scare talk, dressed up as some sort of casual cool-guy snark. So these adversaries have been hating on America for 47 years, and have not managed to tip over an ice cream cone here. But they will climb in our windows tonight and annihilate us before the midterms. Anyone dumb enough to vote on that, meanwhile fronting blood and treasure daily into unnamed strategy and mired war and absurd claims, deserves what they get: a huge cost with no clear path through the self-engineered mess.
Remember Saddam’s WMD and a 45-minute threat to European destruction? And the affordable war that was needed to fix it?

He’s clearly feeling out how the public would feel about a false flag attack.

One major attack like 9/11 on American soil to galvanize the public behind the war effort. We went into Iran/Afghanistan outraged and looking for blood in the wake of 9/11. The presumption is the public would react in the same way and these kinds of statements are feelers.

Mish is being deliberately disingenuous here. Clearly Trump wasn’t calling for it, or saying that he would allow it. To believe this is moronic, beyond imagination.

Clearly he was saying that the price of losing LA or San Diego is much worse than the higher gas prices now being paid.

Mish is being intentionally ignorant here. This is deliberate, and its deceptive. He thinks his readers are too supid to see the obvious. Mish is LYING. What he said is not even remotely close to what Mish (and other liars in the media) is suggesting.

“These gas prices hurt, but much less than losing LA or SD” That is what he said. Or, believe Mish telling you Truimp is just fine with Los Angeles being obliterated.

LIES from a fallen and disgraceful LIAR.

Trump was definitely joking, in that LA and SD are liberal bastions. His MAGA crowd got the ‘joke’.

But suppose Trump was, as you suggest, “Clearly he was saying that the price of losing LA or San Diego is much worse than the higher gas prices now being paid.”

He should immediately acknowledge it as an incredible gaffe and say that he ‘misspoke’.

Well, we all know he won’t.

And for you to immediately assail Mish just reinforces how MAGA has lost every possible shred of credibility with fair-minded observers.

Demagoguery. “the price of losing LA or San Diego is much worse than the higher gas prices now being paid.” The price of gas IS being paid, NOW. The “price” of losing those major cities is so speculative and contingent, these cannot earnestly be weighed together today. It is a false equation.

You’re lying. He literally said: “let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay.”

His fans cheered wildly. It’s funny how much MAGA has to tell lies to keep their self-delusions and worship going. It’s like watching a Christian evangelist try to defend some belief with a quote from the Bible. Then you simply point out what the Bible actually says. This is the result of underfunding public education.

The disclosure of grades by Presidential candidates has changed over the last few decades. Biden and GWB both released their grades, even though they were really bad, because they thought it was necessary. Obama and Trump did not disclose their presumably awful grades, and we learned the public doesn’t really care. I don’t expect any candidate in the future to release their grades unless they are good.

Blame people still trying to emulate Reagan “folksiness”

President of the Law Review just means Obama has good political skills, not that he had good grades. It is an elected position, like student body presidents. From Wikipedia:

Fourteen editors (two from each 1L section) are selected based on a combination of their first-year grades and their competition scores. Twenty editors are selected based solely on their competition scores. The remaining twelve editors are selected on a discretionary basis. According to the law review’s webpage, “Some of these discretionary slots may be used to implement the Review’s affirmative action policy.” The president of the Harvard Law Review is elected by the other editors.

Becoming a Rhodes scholar, on the other hand, is a very impressive academic achievement.

GWB and Trump are Nepo babies
Biden a hustler
But Obama is easily one of our most intellectual presidents, agree with his policies or no

Biden seemed pretty sharp 30 years ago. I still remember how he tanked his own campaign via plagiarism.

He was always a gaffe machine, though.

Just watched it, belatedly. It’s possible he meant “suppose” instead of “let”. The latter sounds like pandering to an R crowd. But it’s possible he didnt mean it that way.

So, although he often says nasty things about many people including people who voted for him (perhaps most infamously calling MAGA voters “losers”), I won’t count this one against him.

TexasTim might be correct about the false flag feeler or just general fear mongering.

The tell here is that he used two big blue cities, not a local city or one in Florida.

It was a joke that landed, at least with the crowd.

You’re point sat with me.

At the very least, its a kind of Freudian slip from a demented narcissist. It does show he hates (at least) half the country.

So, yeah, I count it against him…again.

Haha! There is an edit function for ‘you’re’ own posts, if you click on it you’ll get a tiny little ‘settings ‘ icon.

It’s kinda like an editor from the early days of the web but it is functional.
