Trump Waves the White Flag of Surrender to Iran. What Can Go Wrong?

The leaked terms of the deal amount to a Trump surrender. Netanyahu is unhappy.

Unconditional Surrender

My how things have changed. Does anyone recall this March 6, 2026 bluster by Trump?

Truth Social: There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER! After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. IRAN WILL HAVE A GREAT FUTURE. “MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!).” Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Capitulation by Trump

How’s that surrender idea going Mr. President?

Here’s the latest deal rumor, widely reported everywhere.

Expected Terms

  • Extension of Iran War ceasefire for another 60 days
  • Strait of Hormuz reopened for the 60-day period
  • Iran would be able to freely sell oil during the period
  • US would lift blockade on Iranian ports and unfreeze some Iranian funds
  • US would issue some sanction waivers on Iranian oil
  • Draft MOU includes statement that war between Israel and Lebanon would end
  • Negotiations would then be held regarding Iran’s nuclear program
  • The draft MOU includes commitments from Iran to never pursue nuclear weapons, negotiate over a suspension of uranium enrichment, and removal of its highly enriched uranium.

Surrender by Trump

Those terms represent a surrender by Trump, not Iran.

Amusingly, the terms were negotiated with Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Türkiye, Jordan, and Bahrain.

Iran and Israel were missing in action.

Iranian officials on the Deal

Gharibabadi is the Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs for Iran.

Peace Through Strength

The 3rd of Khordad, the anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr, recalls an enduring truth in Iran’s history; a truth that is also linked to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter: a nation subjected to aggression and occupation has the inherent right of self-defence to protect its territory, independence and dignity.

Khorramshahr became a symbol of the triumph of national will over an aggression that began with the calculations of the powers supporting the aggressor, but was defeated by the faith, steadfastness and self-reliance of the Iranian great nation.

Today, Iran follows the same logic: seeking peace with strength, pursuing diplomacy with dignity, and firmly defending the territorial integrity, independence and rights of our beloved Iran.

New York Times on the Proposed Deal

The New York Times reports Iranian officials say the proposed peace deal would end fighting and open the Strait of Hormuz.

As the United States threatened over the past week to resume strikes on Iran, officials there pursued a twofold strategy: engaging in a frenzy of diplomatic negotiations while also aggressively planning for all-out combat.

On Saturday, the diplomatic option appeared to be winning out.

As part of the agreement, the Iranian officials said, Iran would allow ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway crucial to the world’s oil and gas trade, without tolls or fees — for now. In turn, they said, the United States would lift its naval blockade on Iran. The agreement would also halt fighting on all fronts, they added, including in Lebanon, where Israel has continued to clash with the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.

The agreement leaves thorny questions related to Iran’s nuclear program for a later date, the officials said. A plan for its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which the United States has insisted it give up, would be negotiated within 30 to 60 days, they said, adding that the deal would release $25 billion in Iranian assets frozen overseas.

It was not clear whether the proposal the Iranian officials said they had agreed upon was the same draft that Mr. Trump referred to in his social media post. The three Iranian officials said a few hours before Mr. Trump’s announcement that Iran had sent a draft of the agreement to the White House for the president’s approval.

Iran War Live Updates: U.S. and Iran Agree in Principle to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Official Says

The New York Times reports Iran War Live Updates: U.S. and Iran Agree in Principle to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, U.S. Official Says

The United States and Iran have agreed in principle to a deal that would wind down the war in the Middle East by reopening the Strait of Hormuz with a commitment from Iran to dispose of its highly enriched uranium, a senior U.S. official told reporters on Sunday.

Over the last 24 hours, Iranian and U.S. officials have offered some conflicting depictions of what a deal might contain. On Sunday, the U.S. official said a deal had not yet been signed and was still subject to final approval from President Trump and Iran’s supreme leader, which could take days.

Iranian military commanders openly threatened to burn down the infrastructure of Arab neighbors in the Persian Gulf if Mr. Trump carried out a threat he had made to target Iran’s critical infrastructure, including its power plants.

Netanyahu on the Deal

The Jerusalem Post comments Trump tells Netanyahu no agreement with Iran without dismantling nuclear program, removing uranium

“In last night’s conversation with President Trump, the Prime Minister emphasized that Israel will maintain freedom of action against threats in all arenas, including Lebanon, and President Trump reiterated and supported this principle,” the Israeli political source told Reuters on Sunday, asking not to be named.

“President Trump made it clear that he will stand firm in negotiations on his consistent demand for the dismantling of the Iranian nuclear program and the removal of all enriched uranium from its territory,” the source said, “and that he will not sign a final agreement without these conditions being met.”

Trump Announces an Iran Deal that Appears to Be a Complete Capitulation

This morning I reported Trump Announces an Iran Deal that Appears to Be a Complete Capitulation

Here we go again, another deal announcement and another denial by Iran. But …

Believe what you want. But I will believe there is a deal as soon as Iran says there is a deal.

That said, Trump is desperate for a deal. It’s possible this is the real deal. And if so, it’s a total capitulation by Trump.

My “But …” was a thought that this announcement seemed different. And the action today indicates that idea was indeed correct.

Trump is finally tired of this stupid war he started.

Questions Abound

Is a MOU OK for now? How long is for now?

Netanyahu is against this deal. So are the US warmongers like Senators Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham.

I am certain Netanyahu will do everything he can to kill this deal.

That “Trump will not sign a final agreement without these conditions being met,” leaves a lot to the imagination.

We can go years without a final agreement.

Will Iran Give Up Its Uranium?

That’s a question I can answer. No. Iran won’t and can’t.

Q: Why?
A: Trump is the world’s biggest liar. The only way Iran can be sure Trump does not break the terms of the MOU is to keep its uranium.

Trump broke Obama’s deal with Iran. Trump broke his own USMCA deal with Canada. Trump bombed Iran in the middle of negotiations in February this year.

Trump is a proven liar. Neither Iran nor any country in the world can believe Trump will honor any deal he makes.

The only leverage Iran has is ability to close the strait and its uranium. If it gives both up, Trump is 100 percent certain to break any deal he makes.

So, will we have an MOU?

Right now, that seems likely. But don’t underestimate Netanyahu’s resolve to kill it.

About that Blockade

How did Trump’s blockade work out?

I seem to recall the blockade was supposed bring Iran to its knees in three days. The blockade began on April 13, 2026. It’s now May 24.

And before that, Trump thought the war itself would take 3-5 days.

Trump was a moron to start this war. And that’s the sorry bottom line.

Prepare for surrender. Trump is waving the white flag.

Obama Flashback

In case you forgot, Trump’s own Secretary of Defense and Chair of Joint Chief of Staff, both told Congress under oath, that Iran was honoring the deal with Iran.

  1. Trump’s US State Department: Iran honoring the terms.
  2. Trump’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: Iran honoring the terms.
  3. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA): Iran honoring the terms.
  4. Arms Control Association: Iran honoring the terms.
  5. All US European allies: Iran honoring the terms.
  6. Every other signee of the accord: Iran honoring the terms.
  7. Trump’s top general Gen. Joseph Dunford: Iran honoring the terms.
  8. Trump’s Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis: Iran was complying with the terms of the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal

For discussion, please see What If Iran Just Honored Obama’s Nuclear Deal? Would We Be at War?

Key Details on Mattis’ Statement and Context:

  • Testimony (October 2017): Testifying before the Senate Armed Services Committee, Mattis said, “I believe that [Iran] fundamentally [are] in compliance with its nuclear deal”.
  • Contradicting Trump: Mattis, a career hawk, advised that staying in the deal was in the U.S. national security interest, putting him at odds with President Trump’s public criticism of the agreement as an “embarrassment”.

Ten Point Synopsis Since 2016

  1. Trump tore up Obama’s deal that that Trump administration officials said was working
  2. Then and only then did Iran resort to nuclear bomb grade enrichment
  3. Trump bombed Iran in July of 2025 and announced he totally destroyed Iran’s nuclear capability
  4. In the middle of negotiations in 2026, Trump bombed Iran again to destroy its nuclear program he already destroyed.
  5. The price of oil, fertilizer, helium, and other goods that pass through the strait skyrocked.
  6. Trump demanded unconditional surrender and said the war would be over in a few days which became weeks, then months.
  7. Trump just surrendered to Iran, assuming Netanyahu does not find a way to kill this MOU.
  8. MAGA will find some asinine reason to declare victory.
  9. Oil prices will not go back where they were. Too much infrastructure has been damaged.
  10. Iran will have oil money and its US dollar assets will be unfrozen.

Thank you for your attention.

Addendum – Did the Warmongers Get to Trump Already?

Truth Social: If I make a deal with Iran, it will be a good and proper one, not like the one made by Obama, which gave Iran massive amounts of CASH, and a clear and open path to a Nuclear Weapon. Our deal is the exact opposite, but nobody has seen it, or knows what it is. It isn’t even fully negotiated yet. So don’t listen to the losers, who are critical about something they know nothing about. Unlike those before me who should have solved this problem many years ago, I don’t make bad deals! President DJT

May 24, 2026, 12:16 PM

Deal? What Deal?

“Our deal is the exact opposite, but nobody has seen it, or knows what it is. It isn’t even fully negotiated yet.”

More than likely, Netanyahu or the warmongers already got to Trump.

And a Blast at Obama

Truth Social: One of the worst deals ever made by our Country was the Iran Nuclear Deal, put forth and signed into existence by Barack Hussein Obama and the rank amateurs of the Obama Administration. It was a direct path to Iran developing a Nuclear Weapon. Not so with the transaction currently being negotiated with Iran by the Trump Administration – THE EXACT OPPOSITE, in fact! The negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives not to rush into a deal in that time is on our side. The Blockade will remain in full force and effect until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed. Both sides must take their time and get it right. There can be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming a much more professional and productive one. They must understand, however, that they cannot develop or procure a Nuclear Weapon or Bomb. I would like to thank, thus far, all of the countries of the Middle East for their support and cooperation, which will be further enhanced and strengthened by their joining the Nations of the historic Abraham Accords and, who knows, perhaps the Islamic Republic of Iran would like to join, as well! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

May 24, 2026, 8:10 AM

Obama’s deal with Iran was his single best accomplishment. Trump tore that deal up with the results posted above.

Deep Dive Comments

President Trump just posted this on TruthSocial as a means of reassuring people he is making a good deal behind the scenes to end this war. Unfortunately, he undercuts any confidence that a deal will be worked out at all with his words.

Iran is already signaling that sanctions relief and billions of dollars in unfrozen assets released to Tehran are a requirement to even get to the nuclear question, which won’t be discussed until subsequent rounds of negotiations.

There is very little chance that Iran will agree to the sweeping requirements President Trump is trying to lay out. If President Trump thinks he’s going to get a better deal than the 2015 JCPOA, then we likely get no deal at all, bc Iran is signaling these are deal-breaking terms.

I worry that this negotiation won’t even make it out of the cradle.

Have we regressed from a MOU that would open the strait to demanding a final agreement?

If so, the warmongers got to trump already.

Trump needs more pain. Iran will not budge because making deals with the world’s biggest liar is not smart.

Iran will not give up its only leverage to make a deal with a known liar.

Think of the consequences of Trump attacking Iran again and it just pissing Iran off even more. Massive destruction of Mid-East oil production facilities leading to long-term higher oil, fertilizer, nat gas, sulfer, etc… prices. Massive global inflation. A new Great Recession. The complete cratering of the GOP. The US losing all credibility in the world.

It’s either that, or Trump having to admit he f**ked up. I guarantee Trump will take the first option over the second. It’s just a part of his mental health issues that so attracted the dumb in the first place. So its baked into the cake. Plan accordingly.

I concur. This is a good illustration of Trump (“successfully”) externalizing his mental problems (and their inevitable real-world dilemmas) until a critical buckling-point is arrived at. It’s like, hey kids, mom married a psychopath and stuck with him. A critical mass of USA voters having tied us to him (and complicit Congress and courts) hand and foot, we now get to experience the lengthy and costly consequences: consequences of his deceit, sub-horrible deal “skills,” etc. It will take years to unravel this folly, if ever, because institutions are broken, institutional skills and culture are lost, plus, our short term leadership switches keep the world wary. (Mom divorced from the psycho, but marries a new weird guy every few years.) This Constitutional feature is being stress-tested. It was the triumph of dumb spectacle and PR over substance in US politics. Yes, the Dems had their part in the drift to here, but voter small-mindedness above all.
Meanwhile we are mired in this quicksand.

Israel doesn’t get very much from the US. Hell, it would be hard for a single billionaire to get by on just $3.8 billion/year, let alone a country!

From chatGPT:
The U.S. currently gives Israel about $3.8 billion per year in military aid under a 10-year agreement signed in 2016 that runs through 2028. That annual package is generally broken down into:

  • $3.3 billion in Foreign Military Financing (weapons and defense purchases)
  • $500 million for joint missile defense programs like Iron Dome and Arrow systems

Trump to TACO. Trump’s problem is that he has no ideological bedrock to anchor himself to.

Trump is always pulled in multiple directions by his various advisors and confidants and as has been proven, whoever gets the last word or offers the biggest bribe is the direction he will choose.

The Middle East powers want the Strait opened because most of their revenue comes from oil flowing through the Strait or in the case of UAE, tourism. The oil buyers of oil that flows through the Strait are also leaning on Trump to capitulate. And the politicos are yapping about the midterm elections.

You know it wouldn’t surprise me that if a temporary deal is signed they announce it Monday, and most likely Tuesday at 4am hours before US markets open.

We’ve been told now for over 24hrs that a deal was coming within hours.

So either this is (1) a lie, or (2) they are intentionally building this up so when they finally do announce it (again if a deal is signed) it can cause a reinforcement momentum loop, which is why it’s surprising they haven’t announced it yet (Asian markets open in like an hour I believe).

Though given how much the media has been reporting this as a for sure deal that momentum has probably already started (or about to start as Asian markets open soon).

Iran is the horsefly in the ointment. BiBi is the dealbreaker. The MOU is DOA.

Trump is stalling. The longer he stalls, the weaker his negotiating position becomes. Trump decided to go into a war with a nation that has better leadership, a population that supports its government and a better military due to home court advantage. He lost on day one per Clausewitz.

The Iranian government is the most popular it has been since their Revolution in ‘79.

The government’s approval rating has increased due the carpet bombings on its civilian population by Israel and the US. This is what happened in WW II by the Axis’ and Allies’ populations that were bombed, N.Vietnam and Afghanistan as well.

It looks like the US may be reaching a deal with Iran, with warmongers like Mike Pompeo, Lindsey Graham and Mark Dubowitz expressing dismay at the terms the agreement appears likely to include.
I no longer feel a sense of relief when the US war machine shows signs of de-escalation, because these days it’s just a sign they’re getting ready to escalate somewhere else. If Washington sets up an memo of understanding with Iran it only means they’re preparing to regime change Cuba, with plans to re-target Iran using different strategies already being drawn up for a later date.
It’s like when you know a guy who always abuses his girlfriends. If you see one of his partners escape her abusive relationship, after a certain point you’re going to stop feeling a sense of relief, because after watching the patterns play out over and over again you know he’s just going to find some other unfortunate woman to put in that spot. The amount of abuse remains constant; all that changes is the victim.
The violence of the US empire remains constant. It moves around, but it doesn’t diminish. If you see it pulling back a bit, that only means it’s preparing to come roaring forward, like a wave to the shore.
The tide of imperial violence is going to keep returning until the empire is dismantled.

What can go wrong? What can go right? It depends on what you want.
It is easy to find out what the far-left thinks:
If Trump loses that would be good.
If Iran does build a bomb, and inter-continental missiles pointed at Europe and America, that would be good.
Iran’s theocracy’s long-term goals are still being sought: The erasure of Israel (“Death to the Little Satan!” meant literally) and the expulsion of America from the region (, and who knows what other bad things heaped on America?) Iran attaining its goals would be good.
The far-left thinks all those and more would be good. So the question is whether we agree to retreat, or have to be induced and compelled kicking and screaming to retreat.
And all those far-left goals, such as human rights and equal equitable rights, are to be viewed through a N. Chomsky lens: Those are things that we must do. Those guys over there other side of the world, not so much.

What a silly comment. Of course the far left does not think “If Iran does build a bomb, and inter-continental missiles pointed at Europe and America, that would be good.” And you know it. Ideologically the far left and Iran couldn’t be more apart.

Suppressing women, persecuting gay people, mixing religion and state, loving the death penalty; that’s all far right stuff. Not your typical far left way of thinking.

If Trump loses an illegal war of choice, it would be good. – check
If Iran builds a bomb… – was not happening except in propagandized minds that mistrust US and international intelligence services.
Expulsion of America from region… – we shouldn’t be there in the first place. Glad to pull out – check
Iranian chanting. – who cares? check.
Human rights… – are furthered by NOT bombing other countries that didn’t bomb us first. – check

There is no deal, it’s all lies as usual, Rubio has already come out with this:
US secretary of state Marco Rubio told The New York Times an agreement with Iran had garnered regional support but a nuclear deal couldn’t be achieved “in 72 hours on the back of a napkin.”
His comments came after US president Donald Trump told his negotiators “not to rush into a deal” with Iran to end the three-month war.
Rubio said on Sunday: “We’re not kicking it till later. Nuclear talks are highly technical matters. You can’t do a nuclear thing in 72 hours on the back of a napkin.
“So right now, we have seven or eight countries in the region that are endorsing this approach, and we’re prepared to move forward on this approach.””.
Maybe The Grifter in Chief forgot markets are closed, there will be NO deal ever cuz the US wants what is impossible, regime change & can’t come to terms they are a spent collapsing force in the world.

“… there will be NO deal ever cuz the US wants what is impossible, regime change…”

That’s something I forgot to mention (but did in my comment on the other thread that’s still under review) regime change.

Notice how Trump has dropped this condition from both talking points, and as a point for negotiations.

The biggest, and clearest, fact that points to this being dropped from the table is that Trump is negotiating with the very regime he’d like to have decapitated and removed.

If restarting the shooting war was something his allies in congress and his allies in the ME wanted, other than Israel, he already would have restarted the shooting. Outside of Israel, nobody wants that. Not now; not in a few months; not in years. Iran knows this. With no shooting, Iran has unlimited time. It appears they’ve won. A month or two ago.

While Trump did say unconditional surrender, he did not say by whom. So ya, dammit, he was right again.

I think this MOU will in the end be the deal. Trump is not going to go to war in 60 days with the mid terms so close and in the heat of the middle eastern summer.

After the mid-terms Trump will be shut down, hopefully impeached and hopefully charged for corruption and being a rapist and pedophile. (If you’re gonna dream, dream big).

so the UN will be left holding the bag to get Iran to the table.

Oh and gain more social control over the US citizen through rising fuel and food costs.

“Trump is finally tired of this stupid war he started.”

I’m not so sure.

As I stated in a comment in the other thread (9.30am, but edited to many times and has been stuck in review) I believe this is about reducing pressure domestically (trying to save face with voters and republicans seats this midterm) and internationally (conceding, at least partially, to China and responding to distress of those forced to into rationing due to this war).

The Trump administration (as well as the repubs) can point to this and say Trump is using negotiations instead of bombs to resolve this, and he can say to the world that he hears their cries and is opening the Hormuz. The key is in the fact that this agreement is for 60 days, and puts the issue of Iran’s enriched uranium to be decided later.

Is this total capitulation by Trump?

Yes to some degree it is, but as the old saying goes you have to give a little to get a little. Key here is reports I’ve read is that the US military sitting in the waters by Iran will be staying the entire duration of this deal (thus the build up in military isn’t leaving), and that suggests that this (whatever they agree on) is temporary.

It will be a total capitulation by Trump if he gives into allowing Iran to set up a permanent toll system in the Strait, and allows Iran to either keep its enriched uranium or pass it to another Eastern country (ally of Iran) for safe keeping. It would also signal a total capitulation towards China (really the BRICS as well).

It may seem like it’s a success now (if actually is signed), but in the future will most likely lead to a fail as both the toll system, and the uranium are red lines in the sand for both sides who sit on opposite sides on that line and have historically been unwilling to budge. It’s also likely to fail because the US can’t dictate the terms of what Israel can and cannot do, and Israel has a habit (as much as the US) of breaking it’s agreements.

One thing to note (and yes I am repeating myself from my comment in the other thread):

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/us-approves-potential-1081-million-sale-missile-system-equipment-ukraine-2026-05-22/

Many may look at this deal (if it goes forward) as a sign of peace, but I’m almost certain that peace isn’t coming and that we are still marching towards ww3.

That said Trump has given the best buy signal for traders, should this be signed before US markets open on Tuesday.

Your comments says that Trump hears the cries of people/ countries (?) and will reopen the Straights of Hormuz. The Straights would never have been closed if he had not started the war in the first place. I agree that Hormuz wouldn’t need to be opened if Trump didn’t close it, but that fact doesn’t matter.

Why?

Because regardless how it was closed it is closed ATM, and Trump is the one to decide if it will temain closed or not (or at least that’s the way Trump projects it; though if this turns out to be total capitulation Trump did this under duress – domestically and internationally as I pointed out).

The past is important to understanding the now, but it’s hardly worth keeping onto if hope is pointed to the future.

Just saying.

In charge of the Strait, and the War are two entirely different things. Trump is definitely in charge of the war, and he has final call on nearly everything. If a more radical, frustrated, and emotional approach was at hand, we would have been attacking full force awhile ago, and probably still today.

Surprise! Trump continues to publicly negotiate with himself.

After claiming, yet again, that a deal is close, Trump finally realizes that Iran is not going to rush to sign an agreement to negotiate today.

So now Trump says that he is in “no rush” to sign a deal with Iran until its the right deal. There will probably not be any signed deal today. And he says the blockade will remain in place until a deal is signed. And he says he will bomb them to kingdom come (for the tenth time), if they don’t do a deal.

So, much ado about nothing yet again.

Iran has been patient, but there’s a time limit on all sides. The U.S. cannot let this drag on much longer due to the economic and political pressures, and Iran also is being hurt economically. Barring those pressures, Trump could continue to stall and pretend his pressure tactics are working, but if this deal stalls or falls apart, Iran might take the initiative.

Trump may be desperate, but desperate men do dumb things and he is acting delusional as well. Some in Iran are already calling for a first strike if there’s any sign that U.S./Israel are preparing for further military action. Also arguably Israel has not honored the ceasefire at all, as they still bombard Gaza and southern Lebanon. There is a moral dimension to this where Iran cannot let this go on indefinitely where they are expected to be passive and wait for the enemy to collect themselves for another attack against their children.

Trump is irrelevant here. Iran was a test as well?

So China has Quantum communication. first it was like a foot, then 100, then a mile, then 1000 miles over fiber. Then they launch a satellite Mizhou later renamed.
That gave them communication from space.
Next article whatever scientists states that using Mizhou required both certificates to issue from one satellite. But now they can use ANY satellite, and the scientist stressed this, EVEN OUR ENEMIES.
Next article is they were testing it with the Russians in Ukraine.
Wanna bet Iran was a test as well?
US lost bases and like 500 billion in radar. Billions in munitions and equipment.
US lost respect of their allies because defenses failed as did Israel defenses.
Now Iran gets unhackable intel from Quantum communication, closer ties to BRICS+ and forced respect from their neighbors.
