The Wall Street Journal reports Two U.S. Troops Killed in Iran Missile Attack on Jordan
Two U.S. servicemembers were killed and several were wounded in an Iranian attack on an air base in Jordan, further escalating a weeklong exchange of fire where both sides have been striking increasingly sensitive targets.
U.S. Central Command, which oversees American forces in the Middle East, confirmed the deaths and said another servicemember is missing as a result of the attack.
Four servicemembers were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals and have since been discharged, according to Centcom. Other personnel who were evaluated for minor injuries have been returned to duty, Centcom added.
Iran has adapted to U.S. defenses, firing missiles that travel at extremely high speeds and can maneuver as they streak toward the earth, according to U.S. officials familiar with the attacks. Iran’s ability to hit sensitive targets has also raised concerns that the regime is getting targeting help from China or Russia, the officials said.
The American casualties will test President Trump’s restraint amid an escalating exchange of fire between the U.S. and Iran that stretched through the past week. The president has previously said he would consider going back to war if Iran kills U.S. troops.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Saturday that the loss of the servicemembers would stiffen the U.S.’s resolve.
The Iranian attack took place at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, which U.S. warplanes have used for operations against Iran, according to U.S. officials. The U.S. casualties came as American and partner forces were defending against missile and drone attacks, Centcom said.
Iran has repeatedly attacked the base with ballistic missiles and drones. The base was hit in another attack earlier this week, and U.S. servicemembers sustained minor injuries, according to two U.S. officials.
Prior to the attack, the Pentagon had said 14 American servicemembers had died in the conflict with Iran due to hostile actions or accidents.

Blowing up Mideast infrastructure is guaranteed to do two things. Increase hatred and raise prices.
Trump had a MOU that would have opened the strait at a cost of $1-2 million per tanker.
Despite a goal of restoring the strait back to what it was, Trump declared the US the guardian of the strait at a cost of 20 percent of cargo, roughly $30 million per tanker, 15 to 30 times more than Iran.
Iran could not charge too much more because alternate routes would be built.
War had no logic because Trump has no logic. Instead of lowering prices at the pump headed into the midterm elections, gasoline prices are now heading back up.
Trump has the emotional stability of a two-year-old child with the brain of an aging dementia-ridden octogenarian hampered with severe narcissism.
So, don’t expect foreign policy logic. Instead, expect random flip-flop actions that will damage the global economy including the US.
Also expect increased efforts to steal the midterm elections because this nonsense is going to cost still more votes.

Iran is doing the US a favor. Since the troops were never recalled home from the hundreds of bases abroad, Iran is recalling them, some in body bags, and shutting down dozens of bases abroad, as we the people have been clamoring for.
Now we are hearing from CENTCOM that there is another American soldier killed in Northern Iraq. Oh, and in Jordan there are ‘unidentified remains’ that they are still examining from the Iranian strike at the military base.

As for the Persians, a lot of them seem to be intelligent people, but they are still in the thrall of the Islamic religion. I can remember when Southern Europe was in the thrall of the Catholic Church, so the Persians are not the only Aryan people who can fall under the sway of primitive religion. Remember also that nearly ALL the people of the West are under the sway of the Education religion. Like all religions it does contain elements of truth, and because it is a relatively new religion, its blind spots haven’t been exposed yet, at least not to the extent that the blind spots of Christianity and Islam have.
When a religion is young is when it is most dangerous. People REALLY DO believe in Education, whereas only a relatively small proportion of any population today is prepared to go all the way with Christianity or Islam.
Notice that one of the religions that people were prepared to go the whole way with, in living memory, was Communism. Communism is the Christian moral code, stripped of the Christian magic stories, and taken seriously. (I have a Lutheran minister to thank for first pointing out to me that Communism was a Christian heresy.) Trained Christian ministers do not go the whole hog in pressing their moral code, and prefer to talk about the magic stories, because they know from bitter historical experience that any attempt to enforce their moral code leads to horrors.

The countries Iran targeted are not venting their anger toward the US as Iran hoped. They are directing it back at Iran. This implies a HUGE underlying tension existed among countries in the region before the US took military action. Countries in the gulf are using US military just as American colonies used Hessians to combat the British.
The CIA / MI-6 1953 coup is largely viewed as the starting point of US-Iran tensions. There was something more subtle that was not taught in global history when I was in high school. The West did not have the armed forces to be the world’s police following WW2, so they took a risk by redrawing the middle east (remnants of the ottoman empire) such that each country would have enough internal conflict to distract them from re-forming into a regional military power. When Iran’s elections resulted in leaders against Western influence, it posed a threat to regional stability and western control. At that point the CIA/MI-6 supported the 1953 coup in Iran to re-install a pro-western leader.

The people in the region understand what is really going on. The US coerces GCC countries to denounce Iran, using the carrot and the stick. For instance, any Iraq sale of oil must be run through American bank accounts, and Trump has refused to allow Iraq to have access to “their” money from oil sales unless they do what Trump says. Notice also the recent announcements of multi-billion dollar US weapon sales to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE. There is a price for those approvals and it includes those countries publicly complaining about Iran. The worst part is the US military bases in those countries make them less safe and bigger targets for Iranian missiles. In reality, they blame the US, not Iran, but they have sold their souls to the devil and now have to pay the price.

I think that in 1953 it would simply have been assumed that these sorts of peoples would stay helpless. We knew that the Japanese could fight, because they had just proved it. There is only one reason to enrich uranium to a 60% level. That is pursuit of a nuclear weapon. When Iran refused to negotiate stopping this pursuit, we had to act to prevent a massive catastrophe. Trump did what he had to.
First, they were not enriching to those levels until after Trump tore up the JCPOA and assassinated General Solemani. Trump is the direct cause of the enrichment. Second, there is no law against enriching uranium or having a stealth nuclear program. If there was, Israel and North Korea are far worse offenders. Finally, there is no evidence or reason to think that Iran would ever use a nuclear weapon, they are a far more peaceful nation than the US or Israel, whose propaganda you are falling for.

Trump tore up the agreement that was working to prevent Iran from doing that. Once he tore it up and put sanctions back on, then Iran went back to enrichment. His fault to begin with.
Trump then negotiated with Iran for a better agreement. While negotiating, he bombed the enrichment sites and said it was so successful that Iran would never be able to enrich Uranium again and would never be able to produce a nuke. Problem solved.
In spite of Trump’s claim that Iran could no longer produce a weapon, suddenly we have to attack them again to prevent them from creating a nuke.
Trump’s attack caused Iran to take control of the strait of Hormuz. This gives Iran more leverage than a nuke ever would.
Another huge blunder by Trump. Just like tearing up the JCPOA. Now Iran has leverage they never dreamed of having. Control of the strait.
Now Trump’s goal is to get the strait open again. He doesn’t even care about the uranium anymore. Because the strait is more important.

As expected, Trump will keep trying to win an unwinnable war, because he cannot stand to lose. I expect the US to keep this up for another week or two in an attempt to force Iran to open the strait of Hormuz. (Even though Trump keep saying he controls the strait!) We used up close to half of our long range armaments in the first phase of the war, and we will be close to using up another quarter of them in phase two. At that point, a very frustrated Trump will try to arrange another ceasefire as the military will explain to him that it is too dangerous to completely exhaust these weapons.
However, Iran will no longer be interested in a ceasefire. They are no longer interested in negotiations, other than as a stalling tactic. They know that Trump will never honor any agreement anyway. Their goal now will be to continue to control the strait of Hormuz, and eventually charge fees for transit and to punish Trump. This is leverage that they will never willingly give up.
The longer this goes on, the more we will run down our reserves of oil and refined products. Oil is back to $80 and going higher. Crack spreads have risen to $70, so a barrel of gasoline or diesel are now $150.
Thank goodness that China is allowing their teapots to export refined products again. Otherwise, we would soon face severe fuel shortages, as Middle East and Russian refiners are badly hobbled at the moment.
