I met some oil guys in Mexico on a fishing trip from Bakersfield that bought an oil refinery that was going to be closed by the majors in the Bakersfield area. Putin knows he’s lost, and he also knows he’ll be out of power as soon as he stops the war. So he goes on, as long as he can, just to stay in power. Typical dictator behaviour of course: make a mistake because you have eliminated everyone around you that might not be a yes-man. And then do everything you can, at anyone else’s expense, to stay in power despite the screw ups.

Due to the Ukraine destroying Russian oil processing for several years by now, Russia has BANNED exports of refined fuel for some time now and is not planning to start the exports any time soon. Before that, Russian exports were already severely lower than historical averages. Gasoline and diesel prices started going up in February. So what did happen in February??? Why is it so important to blame Ukraine and completely forget about February 2026??? Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy started years before February 2026.
Exactly. Ukraine started attacking Russian refineries systematically in November 2025. The price spike however starts right where the US attacked Iran, who predictably closed the straight of Hormuz. Trump is trying to blame others for his mistakes, which of course is par for the course.
More important than attacking refineries is the recent attack on the rocket factory where those used to launch the Russian Starlink satellites were made. That is a much more strategic hurdle by the Ukrainians.
It cannot be missed that Russian bombers are not flying over the Ukraine either, kept far away even as they ran out of the more sophisticated air defense interceptors.

The difference is that it is our country that is at war with Iran, and has been since 1979. The war didn’t start when Trump decided to try to end it.
Nuclear weapons for our enemies are nonnegotiable. Iran openly stated prior to our attack of their nuclear sites that they were “going to have a nuclear weapon within weeks.”
