Trump defends U.S. interventions as peaceful efforts.
Trump’s Foreign-Policy Vision for the World
The Wall Street Journal reports Trump Threatens to Annihilate Iran as He Lays Out Foreign-Policy Vision at U.N.
President Trump labeled himself a man of peace while threatening to “annihilate” Iran and wield American power against other nations, in a speech at the United Nations aimed in part at selling skeptical voters on his foreign-policy vision ahead of the midterm elections.
During his roughly 35-minute address Tuesday to the U.N. General Assembly, Trump argued that his forceful interventions had made the world a safer place.
“While others have talked, I have acted,” he said. “While others have spoken of peace, I have made peace. While others have ignored threats, I have confronted them.”
In a demonstration of Trump’s split-screen views on matters of war and peace, the U.S. president said the choice he faces in Iran was either striking a deal over its nuclear program or a full-on bombing campaign.
“Do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations?” Trump asked.
Trump said he saw two choices for the Iranians: make a deal or risk further conflict—“It’s greatness, potential greatness, or obliteration.”
In his speech, Trump renewed his call for regime change in Cuba, saying that the U.S. wouldn’t allow “a haven for foreign adversaries to threaten America on our own doorstep.” He accused Cuban leaders of propping up communists and political dissidents in the U.S. before declaring “communism will never be coming to America, but freedom will be coming to Cuba.”
As he spoke about Cuba, the country’s delegation filed out of the chamber.
Five Takeaways from Lies at the UN
The Journal notes Five Takeaways From Trump’s U.N. Speech
Iran choice is to ‘annihilate’ country or make post midterm deal.
“Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before, maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world?” he said.
“Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations?” he asked.
In his speech, Trump predicted a deal would happen after the U.S. midterm elections in November.
Trump insists oil prices will plummet
Trump also predicted that if the world stayed united, “oil prices will come plummeting down even lower than they were at the start of the conflict.”
Iran, Cuba delegates walk out
Members of the Iranian and Cuban delegations walked out of the main forum as Trump issued threats against their governments.
Trump rejects international regulation of AI
Trump said the U.S. “totally rejects” any “globalist scheme” to control artificial intelligence. “We’re going to encourage it, not rein it in,” he said.
The president’s comments were a rebuke to the growing international calls for stronger guardrails on AI at this week’s meetings.
Trump outlines plans for military bases in Greenland
Trump said an agreement with Denmark and Greenland, which he signed Tuesday, would give the U.S. “permanent control over security” on the island.
Trump said the U.S. would build “two very major military bases” as part of the deal.
The agreement would establish an American presence at Narsarsuaq in southern Greenland, a location where the U.S. previously operated a base during the Cold War, and Mestersvig on the island’s east coast. The U.S. already operates Pituffik Space Base there as well.
Trump said the agreement will prevent U.S. adversaries from establishing a military presence in Greenland or making inroads or “sensitive investments” without America’s approval.
Danish officials have described the deal differently, stressing it preserves Denmark’s sovereignty and Greenlanders’ right to self-determination. The deal will also have to go through the country’s parliament before it can take effect.
King Peace
Trump’s speech was typical Trumpian blowhard lies.
He bragged about deals with Venezuela, threatened Iran, pointed a finger at Ukraine, and promoted himself as a man of peace.
Then Trump immediately asked if he should “drive Iran into hell with no chance of survival.”
If that not the message of a peaceful king, then what is?
The midterms rate to be fun.

If ethics were involved, no one would follow Trumps orders and he would be impotent before the whole world.
I have a hard time understanding why the entire audience at the UN did not simply walk out when he threatened to annihilate an entire nation/theocracy.
War is Peace
We are witnessing the world’s first Nuclear Armed Tittybaby.
He’s a narcissist. Total attention slut. He is such a narcissist that when he goes to funerals he finds himself jealous of the corpse because it is getting more attention than he is.

It is horrendous to imagine an asshole in charge of world-changing things. It is a whole order of magnitude worse to actually have an incompetent asshole in charge of those things.
And the phrasing: ” … do I annihilate the Islamic Republic ….” Not do we annihilate, not do the American people annihilate, not do the community of nations annihilate, not even the “coalition of the willing.” No, this idiot identifies himself distinctly with the act. So we know he is a narcissistic bully, he sees no separation between his personal whims and the use of our military force, and he absolutely owns this.
At least like the Germans, we might come out with someone to try to displace the awful blame onto. But those poor bastards, lucky to come out (somewhat) alive from the mess they allowed to unleashed in their name, have been tied in knots ever since. And that mess left a swirl of stuff in the Middle East the world has still not digested.
Power is to sociopaths what catnip is to cats.
@ Mish
“Interventions”?? Please change this.
There was little or nothing happening in the target countries outside of fake news reported in the first place by the Orwellian press. “Intervention” is a lying word.
They’re “invasions”. They’re “attacks”. They’re “aggressions”.
Mish, how does an antiwar libertarian repeat the relatively anodyne term “intervention”? I think it’s because the regime media uses the term everywhere and it’s hard not to accidentally use their Orwellian terms.
A cost input into objective reporting is eternal vigilance against innocently reusing deceitful terms.
From Merriam-Webster definition of ‘intervention’:
“the interference of a country in the affairs of another country for the purpose of compelling it to do or forbear doing certain acts”
I believe Mish is fine with that usage, at least in standard English.
Here’s a word for you, MOYVFTUAYL:
Pedantic:
disapproving : of, relating to, or being a pedant (as in being overly concerned with minor details)
a pedantic teacher/approach
… pedantic grading rubrics and exams …
—C. Brandon Ogbunu
… if we’re going to be exactingly correct and pedantic, I’d point out that there’s no such thing …
—Alasdair Wilkins
And “confronted” is another word for punching someone in the face.
I got a word for you too.
come on, peace, we’re all in the same team..
Orwellian press? Stay triggered, we’ve got safe spaces for you out the wazoo.
Don’t you know, when WE do it, it’s an “intervention”, a response to outrageous provocation, at worst an entirely justified preemptive move.
When they do it (even though we are already making war on them), it is aggression, an unprovoked full scale war.
The question is “why after the election?”
Because what is planned will be incredibly unpopular and would ruin GOP election chances
Prepare yourselves
I’ve been interpreting it as the usual Trumpian “it will resolve itself in two weeks” kind of can-kicking.
Hopefully he’s so stunned by the outcome of the November election he won’t be bold enough to try something, well, worse.
But in the trade-marked phrasing of MPOv45, “DO worry, Trump will find a way to make things worse!”
Well, perhaps his plan is so potentially unpopular that the GOP would lose the house by a large margin and the Senate comes to impeach/convict territory
Sure, it may be his usual “2 week” BS, but why put it is such definite terms
I’m not here to defend the guy, but I do appreciate accurate context…
“Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before — maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world? Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic, and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy again?”
Yes, a people upon whom megadeath has been inflicted will not kill destroy, or do anything again, procreate, live, trade, you name it. I think we have heard that script before.
So he said it, though, right? I’m not certain what the “context” adds.
Because he’s wrong even with the two choices. He doesn’t have to make a deal, or annihilate them.
There are plenty of other choices. He can let Oman and Iran work out a toll-booth operation.
He can let Iran and the Saudis and the Iraqis and Oman work out their own deal.
He can let the status quo go.
He can be patient and go on with sanctions.
He’s trying to frame the issue into a binary choice, and the presumed nuclear annihilation is the least likely outcome and by far, BY FAR, the worst proposal I’ve ever heard from any president in my entire lifetime.
The context is important because (to me) he’s not saying he wants to annihilate the Iranian people, rather the current leadership.
These are just words of course. I find it hard to perceive how he can accomplish it without inflicting more undue pain on the people.
I agree that the whole thing is a mess and should have been handled much differently and still could.
Oh, I see what you mean. I am not certain, though; if I say, “The United States of America” it can refer to the country or the government equally.
I think the Islamic Republic of Iran is made up of people who are Iranians and to annihilate one would require the annihilating of the other.
Very fair point. I’m now not as certain either given some of the other callous things he said during the UN speech.
He is free to choose to not systematically murder 90 million Iranians. There’s always a choice.
Col Daniel Davis has a good rant and accurate assessment of Trump’s lunacy:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_4oeVCGScI8&ra=m
On August 18, Trump stated, “They cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. And right now, after what we did previously with the B-2 bombers, it will take them a long time to build one.”
If that’s the case, what’s the urgency to annihilate them now?
Diesel.
Israel.
Whatever words coming out is like the words coming out of PEDO or whores.
Why offend the first “lady”?
Let’s just hope Democrats are Trump thumpers in November so this guy can be reigned in at least a little bit.
Enshittification at the top.
Trump is going to replace peace negotiators Kushner and Witkoff with Mayor Mamdani and Senator El-Sayed.
Whatever happened to walk softly and carry a big stick?
Trump walks stupidly and is a big dick (head)
Lacking sufficient stick, all he can do is bellow.
You really can’t make this stuff up.
Some oldies but goodies
‘In order to have peace, prepare for war.’
‘If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball’
‘The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. And a nuclear armed Iran.’
‘It’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.’
Pretty sure all of these run in autoloop in drumpfs head… maybe with the exception of the wrench dodge quote.
