Four Native Americans Kidnapped by Ice, Held in Former Concentration Camp

Four Oglala Lakota tribe members (aka Oglala Sioux) were kidnapped by Ice. One released.

4 Oglala Lakota men kidnapped by ICE in Minneapolis have finally been located. One of them was released but the other 3 are being held at Fort Snelling, a former concentration camp used to imprison Native people incl. the Dakota 38 during the Dakota Wars.

ICT reports Four Oglala Detainees Located.

The four Oglala Lakota men detained by ICE in South Minneapolis have been partially identified, according to a Tuesday night statement from Oglala Sioux Tribe President Frank Star Comes Out.

Star Comes Out said as of Jan. 13, the individuals last names have not been released, only first names. Tribal leaders are demanding full, comprehensive information from the Department of Homeland Security.

Additionally, the tribe is demanding the immediate release of all enrolled tribal citizens held by immigration, written assurances that ICE will stop detaining Native Americans, and immediate government-to-government consultation.

At least one of the men has been released, but tribal leaders said the remaining three are being held at Fort Snelling, a site historically used as a concentration camp for Native people during the Dakota removal period.

“The irony is not lost on us,” Star Comes Out said in a statement. “Lakota citizens who are reported to be held at Fort Snelling — a site forever tied to the Dakota 38+2 — underscores why treaty obligations and federal accountability matter today, not just in history.”

Star Comes Out said when the tribe requested more information, leaders were told the tribe would need to enter into an immigration agreement with ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.

“The tribe does not intend to enter into an immigration agreement with ICE or Homeland Security,” Star Comes Out said in a letter to the U.S. Government shared with ICT. “We will not enter an agreement that would authorize, or make it easier for, ICE or Homeland Security to come onto our tribal homeland to arrest or detain our tribal members.”

Star Comes Out said the detention of the four tribal citizens is a direct violation of federal law, various treaties and the constitutional protections owed to citizens by the United States.

Citizens of tribal nations became United States citizens in 1924 through the Indian Citizenship Act.

Immigration Agreement with ICE

The Administration demands an Immigration agreement with Native Americans.

Seriously, what the flying F?

Are You Racist MAGA Morons Going to Support This Too?

Of course you will. That’s what makes you a pack of racist MAGA morons.

However, I struggle with where you intend to deport these native Americans too.

Oh wait, I understand. You want to deport them back to their tribal lands, don’t you?

Stick to Economics

Many readers tell me to stick to economics.

No, I refuse. More accurately, what’s more economic than people’s lives?

Most racists and racist enablers don’t like it when someone points out their racism.

However, some hard core racists and white supremists embrace the racism. They want this fight.

Three Types of People Support These Actions

  • Bigots and racists
  • MAGA cultists
  • People brainwashed by bigots and racists, and MAGA Cultists

The first two are not mutually exclusive.

That’s the uncomfortable truth. People don’t want me writing about these things mostly because they are in one or more of those camps.

Allegedly, my comparison to Gestapo tactics is over the top. Well, it’s not because it all starts somewhere.

When Congress failed to push back on blowing up boats of the made up name “narco-terrorists” we then killed people clinging to wreckage as if it was a threat.

That was a test. And the administration got away with it. So it was time to start a series of tests in the US.

When the administration got away with smashing heads into the ground, the next step was homicide.

The next step now appears to be deporting Native Americans back to the reservation.

But hey, that’s OK because it’s not quite as extreme as what happened in Germany. At least were not gassing them yet.

Gestapo Tactics

Gestapo tactics refer to oppressive, often brutal methods used by a secret police force to control populations, involving intimidation, surveillance, arbitrary arrest, psychological torture, forced confessions, and making people “disappear” to crush dissent and maintain totalitarian power. Key tactics include using fear, terrorizing citizens through informers, creating a climate of suspicion, and bypassing legal processes to imprison or eliminate opponents without trial.

Essentially, Gestapo tactics involve using fear, secrecy, and violence to eliminate political opposition and maintain absolute control, characteristic of authoritarian states.

Those arrested by the Gestapo were often held without judicial process. The power of the Gestapo was used to focus upon political opponents and ideological dissenters.

It takes one hell of a lot of confirmation bias to not see the path we are on.

But if you are blinded by an overwhelming desire to deport them all, you would find a way to ignore literally everything.

Door-to-door is unconstitutional, but the end justifies the means. If any die in the process, it was their fault.

After all, it’s now a case of “one of ours, all of yours”. Similar expressions were used to in Nazi Germany as “collective punishment” .

Now Do Ashley Babbit

Babbitt was smashing windows, trying to break into rooms where Senators were in hiding. Good was trying to flee someone breaking into her car. She was then shot 3 times by someone calling her a “fucking bitch”

What about Ashley Babbitt may have been the stupidest whataboutism in history.

More Whataboutism!?

I fully expect a pack of racists, economic illiterates, and MAGA morons to respond with a bunch of idiotic whataboutisms.

But as long as we are delving into whataboutism, I have some legitimate related whataboutism questions.

Eight Genuinely Related Whataboutism Questions

  1. What about the fact that native Americans are US citizens?
  2. What about Fourth Amendment to the Constitution which protects people from unreasonable government intrusion?
  3. What about Fourth Amendment to the Constitution which requires probable cause for warrants?
  4. What about the fact that ICE is in flagrant violation of the fourth amendment?
  5. What about ICE protocol which does not permit shooting to stop a vehicle?
  6. What about ICE rush to judgement and suppression of evidence?
  7. What about Gestapo tactics?
  8. What about Nazi slogans?

Ashley Babbit, repeatedly brought up, is unrelated whataboutism. The irony is people cannot see the setup is exactly opposite to the murder of Good.

Other whatabouisms include “What about Somalia Medicaid Fraud?”

That is also totally unrelated whataboutism. Nonetheless I received several requests “Mish why haven’t you written about that?”

How does it relate?

But the irony is that I have written about it. Please consider Medicare and Medicaid Fraud are Brazen and Ubiquitous, But Who Cares?

Theft from the cookie jar is refilled again and again.

Cato reports “It Was Like Someone Was Stealing Money from the Cookie Jar and They Kept Refilling It”

The “fraud scandal that rattled Minnesota,” reports the New York Times, “was staggering in its scale and brazenness.” Dozens of Minnesotans are facing felony charges for defrauding multiple government programs, including Medicaid.

Here’s a very related thus pertinent whataboutism related to Medicaid fraud in Minnesota.

What about Trump’s moronic and racist response to that fraud?

Mr. Trump has called Somalis “garbage,” and he said his administration was considering denaturalizing some, because, he says, “they hate our country.”

That’s a blanket racist and/or national assessment isn’t it? Talk of “garbage” sounds like Hitler.

But let’s ignore that.

Q: Why?
A: For the same reason people are willing to ignore 8 related and relevant whataboutisms note above.

Q: Why is that?
A: Because when your goal is to deport them all, nothing else matters, especially the Constitution.

That is the uncomfortable truth. And that is why people don’t want me exposing them.

The reaction: Stop writing about this. You are exposing my racism and I don’t like it.

Unrelated But Important Whataboutisms

  • What about Trump’s promising no more wars and bombing 8 countries?
  • What about Trump threatening to take Greenland by force?
  • What about nation building in Venezuela?
  • What about Trump’s threats to nation build Iran.
  • Trump actually said MIGA Make Iran Great Again. Help is on the way said Trump after campaigning against intervention. What about that?
  • What about Epstein?

When your goal is to deport them all, you don’t care about any of those. So you don’t want me talking about any of those either.

And please note all of the above, except Epstein, have serious economic impact.

Economics Is People

Economics is fundamentally about people. Economics studies how individuals, businesses, and societies make choices to manage scarce resources, fulfill needs, and pursue goals, focusing on human behavior, motivations, incentives, and the impact of decisions on well-being, not just numbers or money. While often seen through data, the core is human actions, from production and consumption to complex decisions driven by confidence, ethics, and values, highlighting that economies thrive or falter based on human factors.

Economics is people. So the irony of these “stick to economics” comments is that I am writing about the economy.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Prediction of the Day – Mish 2016-01-13

Trump is looking for a way to cancel the midterm elections. He will threaten to do so.

When he does, the vast majority of Republicans will look away. MAGA will cheer.

yeah even Jake tapper said this
The CNN host, known for his establishment leanings, surprisingly pushed back, stating “Just one note, I’m not here to defend ICE, but I’m not a big fan of people using the term ‘concentration camp’ to describe detention camps. That has a very specific meaning.”

Mish, as a longtime reader of your blog I must say you have clearly lost any ability to analyze these matters rationally. It’s quite alarming how your standards have deteriorated.

You’re mass-posting all these links that are often unverified, inflammatory and/or dead wrong. e.g., the claim from @broadwaybabyto that “ICE has no jurisdiction over Native Americans”

this claim is simply incorrect.

Under 8 U.S.C. § 1357 ICE can arrest anyone, anyone, citizen or non-citizen and/or enrolled tribal member who:

(a) is witnessed violating the laws of the United States;

(b) the officer has reasonable cause to believe has violated such laws;

(c) is the subject of a Federal arrest warrant.

Thank you Mish for pointing out the obvious. Thank you for understanding clearly the process that occurred in Germany after 1933. Little steps. They didn’t start with gas chambers…that was the end result of a thousand little step. Same for the war.
We are ruled by a corrupt, depraved, pedophiles elite that has moved on to dictatorship.
It will be interesting to see if the republic can be revived without a crushing catastrophic downfall of the dictatorship.

Mike – you really should rethink this statement/conclusion because your legal logic breaks down pretty quickly re: the death of Ashli Babbitt. The use of deadly force is almost never an affirmative defense to prevent property damage alone. Try telling the DA that the guy that threw a rock through your window justified your use of deadly force – it will end badly for you. Unless, however, you’re suggesting that the property damage being committed by Babbitt somehow was the proximate cause (or imminent threat) of potential grave bodily harm/death to Senators? I’ve never seen anyone suggest that Babbitt’s actions could reasonably be perceived to have lead to bodily harm or death to anyone, thus justifying the use of deadly force by the officer that discharged his weapon which lead to her death. She was breaking a window in the capital building at the time of her death and her intent post-damage are unclear and speculative at best – I wouldn’t recommend or condone a similar action but absent some clear indication that she intended to gravely injure or kill Senators, she didn’t deserve to die based upon simply damaging the property in the building.

Re: the killing of Good, regardless of where you come down on whether her death, or the presence of ICE in general, is/was justified, it’s pretty clear that she was intentionally blocking officers path (and had been for some time) and that’s what prompted them to approach her vehicle and command her to exit the vehicle. They weren’t “breaking into her vehicle” – they were attempting to take her into custody for blocking their path and then not complying with their commands. By the way, try not complying with LEO’s commands the next time you’re pulled over and see how quickly, and justifiably, they “break into” your vehicle as a result. You’re not allowed to disobey a LEO’s commands – if you think otherwise, your legal remedy isn’t in non-compliance but rather via a civil suit post-arrest. Try the noncompliance route if you want, but it won’t end well I can assure you. And that’s been true for a lot longer than Trump (or any other president for that matter) has been in office.

What I’m arguing is that if you assert that Good had no intent to injure/kill the officer in front of her car, thus rendering her death due to the officers actions unjustifiable, then it’s reasonable to conclude that Babbit’s death was equally unjustified because her intent to seriously injure/kill Senators is equally unknown/ambiguous. Unfortunately, both deaths are a tragedy and wholly preventable/avoidable.

I wonder how much Steven Miller is pushing detention quotas on ICE.

It appears these Native Americans were in a homeless came and ended up being detained because ICE judged their appearance as being that of undocumented immigrants.

Trump admin is going to have to reform its immigration enforcement policies in examples like this.

Fortunately it seems like they are being aggressive going after gang members who are undocumented.

Jojo
Jojo

Damn Mish!

There is an old saying on the internet that the first person to invoke Hitler loses the argument. The same should apply to those who casually deploy historically loaded and factually inaccurate terms such as Gestapo, concentration camps and genocide to describe current US immigration enforcement.

These words have very strong and precise historical meanings. Applying them to what ICE is doing today is not only incorrect, it is wildly out of proportion to reality. When language of this magnitude is misused, it does not clarify – it distorts. It replaces analysis with outrage and turns serious history into a rhetorical bludgeon.

This kind of hyperbole is also disrespectful to the victims of actual genocide and to communities for whom these terms are not metaphors, but lived and communicated history. Trivializing those events by flattening them into present-day political sloganeering cheapens their meaning and erodes any moral authority the argument might otherwise claim.

You have a large platform and a sizable audience. Using it to repeatedly inflame rather than inform is not principled dissent – it is agitation, little different from what we are seeing too often on the streets of our country these days, plain and simple. It hardens divisions, rewards emotional escalation, and contributes to the breakdown of any possibility of serious, good-faith discussion.

What outcome are you actually trying to achieve by continually rolling out the most incendiary language available?  If the goal is persuasion or reform, this approach fails. If the goal is to stoke anger and deepen societal fracture, then it appears to be working exactly as intended.

Once again you’re repeating inflammatory propaganda without gathering and skeptically evaluating the story. If you did this with economic data, you’d be laughed out of the room.

Missing from all of this is WHY were the native Americans detained? Yes, they are not deportable illegal immigrants. But that’s not the only reason ICE might take an interest in them! Customs enforcement? Human trafficking? Until we know why they were arrested there’s no clarity. Right now you’re not bothering to find out, you’re just repeating inflammatory clickbait.

Also, characterizing Fort Snelling as “former concentration camp” is utter B.S. “Concentration Camp” as a term did not exist when natives were imprisoned at that location over 160 years ago, nor were there Nazis then. Other than the name, Fort Snelling (I’ve been there, multiple times) was entirely different then – mission, purpose, buildings, everything. The whole United States was a very different place in 1862 (that was when the Civil War was going on!), and no one currently alive was in any way responsible for what happened then. You might as well complain that blacks who get arrested are being imprisoned on former slave plantations in the south, or that reparations are due to the Irish-Americans who built the Transcontinental Railroad under oppressive working conditions!

So you have no further factual information about the Lakota Sioux at Fort Snelling, just inflammatory headlines from one side. In today’s polarized environment, both sides slant the truth and omit relevant facts, making hard-hitting serious journalism much more valuable. Repeating clickbait isn’t journalism. It’s been known for centuries that “a lie will make it halfway around the world before the truth can get its shoes on”. We need the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Dispassionate, not sensationalized.

With regard to economics, you clearly didn’t read my post thoughtfully, I was saying that if you approached economic data in the same way that you’d approached this Fort Snelling story, you’d be laughed out of the room. Your analysis of economic reports is vastly better than the political stories because you look for the inside story and don’t settle for one side’s propaganda.

Not sure why you mentioned the Cato study, but it’s off-point in the current illegal immigration debate, because it does not distinguish between legal and illegal immigration. Legal immigrants who have been through the proper process are a HUGE asset to this nation. I know and work with many of them! BUT – the illegals are an entirely different population. Some are wonderful but many are not. Further, the most recent wave of Biden illegals and “refugees” are even more different, with a much higher proportion of serious criminals, foreign agents embedded by our nation’s adversaries (both foreign and domestic), and other people who have no intention of following the U.S. laws or Constitution.

Thank goodness someone’s doing a bit of journalism on this story. But so far we only have claims from the native Americans! How certain are we that they’re true?

From WaPo:

“The Department of Homeland Security disputed the tribe’s allegations, saying it has no record of its immigration officers detaining the tribe members.”

“We have not uncovered any claims by individuals in our detention centers that they are members of the Oglala Sioux tribe,” a spokesperson said in response to questions from The Post.”

At the moment I don’t believe either side. More actual journalism needed, and less histrionics.

A wind vane is useful to help you determine the direction of the wind. In this case the winds are changing and someone’s sails are about to be deflated and dead in the water while someone else’s ship is about to get a windfall.

“When narcissists fail they will falsely claim that everything is fine and that there is
nothing wrong. They will try to misdirect us or claim there is nothing to the
allegations or circumstances. Any evidence presented, and those that present, it
will be attacked aggressively and vindictively. They will seek to have it invalidated
or claim that it is false, fake, or a product of vague conspiracies. As they lash out
with vindictiveness, the malignant narcissist will trumpet their greatness, their real
or imagined achievements, and portray themselves as worthy of being revered
rather than reviled.

As circumstances become dire, the narcissist will not take any responsibility
ever. They will seek to find someone to blame for their troubles or downfall,
preferably someone that cannot defend themselves. A scapegoat is always useful
and when there is not a real one, one will be invented. In the process of casting
blame, even the most loyal and stalwart will be discarded and denigrated with
reptilian indifference.

Expect lies to increase and to be repeated exponentially. They will, even in light of
factual evidence to the contrary, lie more profusely and adamantly. The narcissist
will expect supporters, the unethical, and enablers to lie for them. If the narcissist
is going to be brought down, they will also seek to bring everyone else around them
down to vindictively make them suffer. As the end nears, the suffering of others is
paramount to the malignant narcissist. It is their way of elevating themselves by
malevolently paying back society with even more suffering.”

The US just suspended the processing of LEGAL immigration VISA applications for 75 countries, including arch enemies such as the Bahamas, Brazil, Colombia, Thailand, Uruguay and Jamaica.

A US citizen who marries anyone from those countries will NOT be allowed to bring their lawful spouse in.

So much for “it is all about fighting illegal immigration” official line.

A President has a lot of powers, which we are discovering under Trump’s administration.

Congress has abdicated its oversight role and we see that the Constitution as written was more of a gentleman’s agreement than a tight legal document.

There are two possible choices going forward:

  1. Rewrite the Constitution to make it grammatically and legally tighter
  2. Await the arrival of the AI Overlord in 20-30 years

So I will admit that I have previously commented that Mish should stick to Economics. Here is why.

I pretty much agree with the political views Mish expresses. But I didn’t start coming here for the political blog posts. I came for the economic ones. For example, I have printed out a blog post from last year about IRAs, and I intend to act on some of the takeaways I had from that blog post when the stock market finally craps itself.

I value the economic blog posts because I can act on what I learn from them to try and improve my economic situation, or at least tread water in this fiat-based monetary system that is designed to steal our purchasing power by at least 2% per year.

When it comes to the political blog posts, including ones on the Ukraine War, (a) I can get as good or better analysis and views elsewhere, and (b) there is not a whole lot I can do with the information to improve my life. The portion of my dash between my birth year and death year is all the time I have, and I want to try and not waste it on things I cannot control. Finally, (c), the political blogs really bring out the troll behavior and personal attacks that I don’t so much see on the economic blog posts.

The late great Libertarian economist Robert Wenzel, who used to run economicpolicyjournal.com, posted economic stuff but also blogged about political stuff from a Libertarian perspective, which diluted the brand. So he created a separate website TargetLiberty.com and thereafter kept the blogs separate. Economic stuff on EPJ, political on TL. Maybe that approach would benefit the community here.

I am also here for Mish’s great economic analysis. And I only occasionally comment on his political posts. However, with regards to the repression of American citizens by their own government and these Gestapo Ice Agents running amok on our streets, I applaud Mish for taking a stand. No matter what your “politics” are, anyone who believes in the rule of law and the constitution should be outraged by what is happening.

People keep saying they come to Mishtalk for the “economics” yet all of his political posts, like this one, get all the comments and readers chiming in.

As I type this comment Mish’s posts:

Challenger (about layoffs): 17 comments
Native Americans (this post): 113 comments
Fed missed inflation: 25 comments
4 senior officials resign over ICE: 185 comments

See the pattern? Math will always set you free.

If you’re here for the economics then maybe you should just skip this post and not comment. Why did you do so?

Have you considered that the time Mish spends on misguided and uninformed political posts might be better directed towards economic posts?

You also have to consider that much of Mish’s economic posts these days are mainly large cut & pastes from the WSJ and a few other sources with lille new insight and most often, little in the way of ‘what now” action recommendations.

Which may be why he has attracted a larger political following at the expense of economic focused readers.

Perhaps it is time to reboot and rethink? As suggested upthread, break the blog into two separate entities?

Although, when I think about it, despite Mish’s escalation in political posts here and on X, he doesn’t seem to have attracted invites to express his punditry on the numerous TV news shows with guest panels and podcasts.

“Have you considered that the time Mish spends on misguided and uninformed political posts might be better directed towards economic posts?”

Have you considered that this is Mish’s blog and his time and he can decide what is best for him all on his own. He already stated he doesn’t care if he loses readers over some of his posts. Many commenters here attempt to channel Trump and tell Mish what to write about, when to write about it, how to write about it and it’s all absurd. Why don’t you guys start your own blog, you can do so on any number of platforms out there and many are free.

Providing feedback is always good and I’m sure Mish might take some under consideration.

Mish is right to post about critical issues that trump (pun intended) economics. Without a sane stable government, economics becomes pointless.

Lastly, if you’re getting all of your economic information from one blog, perhaps you need to rethink your strategy.

Incorrect analysis.

Comments are not a measure of the value of a post for Mish; that’s readers and ad sales.

Comments here are a measure of controversy and community disagreement, not value.

Good economic analysis won’t generate many comments because (a) macro stories evolve gradually and incrementally (except in financial crises) and (b) it’s hard to argue with solid conclusions.

Moderating and responding to comments costs time that could be better spent on better posts.

And it seems like practically half the comments on the political articles are people saying “stick to the economics”…

I’m with the ‘conspiracy theorists’ in thinking the ICE force is going to morph into a ‘Homeland Security’ federal defense force which will be used against American citizens.

When the National Guard was deployed to Chicago, a federal official said they wanted the public to ‘get used to’ seeing the military on American streets.

Why? Because they anticipate social unrest as the dollar gets debased more and more and the bottom 75% fall further and further behind.

They know the pitchforks will be coming and they’re getting ready for them.

What I don’t understand is the clear hatred toward Native Americans exhibited by ICE. Well, I do understand it, these people are psychopaths or sociopaths or both. But still, what is the motivation to arrest them and hold them on a concentration camp? Are they just picking them up bc they look hispanic, and then afraid to admit the mistake? What’s the end game here?

Look there are leftists protecting them at every turn even up to judges in their courthouses. I want all illegal invaders to leave, be deported, imprisoned, or whatever else needs to be done to secure our country from foreign invaders.

The more long time workers forced to leave the better for US citizens needing jobs. Illegal invaders taking jobs is disgraceful.

But even if it all came to pass through magic, the next dem president will simply open the borders again so what did you gain except the spending of hundreds of billions to achieve nothing.

And now you how the US is going broke.

Firing million dollar missiles at $500 “drug” boats

You do realize the catalyst here being Somali immigrants was mainly due to Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Charities and other NGO’s that were paid per person they brought from Somalia..the originating source of all this falls on those administration’s that imcentifized the “charities” with bounties. Why were there so many listed as “cousins” officially? Because one person qualified as a war refugee and had all their friends just state they were relatives so they could jump on board.

“What about Somalia Medicaid Fraud?”

Well that’s the thing Mish. The people that post that question are outing themselves as bonafide bigots or racists. We all know that the pentagon failed regular audits to the tune of missing hundreds of billions of dollars but not one single person here asks, “what about pentagon fraud & waste” even though the military spend is one of the top liners. Is it because the pentagon is mostly white males that no one asks?

Instead we get bigots fixated on “Somali fraud” because it affirms their racists beliefs that immigrants/blacks/Somalis are all thieves or criminals and it makes them feel good about themselves that their racist and bigoted views are validated by a few bad players. It’s all they got because there is nothing else.

It’s all part of that fragile masculinity someone else posted about not to many posts ago.

No, nobody with any common sense wants to “deport them all”, only those who are here illegally.

No, nobody who understands Native American/US Government history has any interest in treating them any different than any other law-abiding citizen. We don’t yet know the whole story behind the incident and we hope it clears up quickly and is only a serious misunderstanding of some sort. The fact that one person was released and the other three held raises questions of fact.

We have many very serious problems. Hyperbole isn’t going to solve them and the politicians in office in the Federal government and some cities (Minneapolis, New York, Chicago, LA, Seattle, Portland, and others) and states, such as NY, MN and CA aren’t either. They apparently believe their job is to just fuck things up even worse. Of course, I blame the voters in all instances.

In reality, which like gravity is undefeated, the solutions do not exist at the present time.

The argument that they set up an immigration negotiation with other departments outside of the bureau of Indian affairs is significant.
They are being reclassified from native Indians to a separate sovereign Nation similar to any other sovereign Nation, including Venezuela.

I give it about 2 years before the argument is made that these lands in the USA are American and not native American Indian and can be seized.

Who would he think there’s any reason to not take what little land was left to the Indians? After all, they’re suckers and losers and lots of undeveloped land.

Let’s talk economics. How about ICE agents disrupting interstate commerce? How about regional economic issues that their catch and release tactics create? How about Veterans in my neighborhood that rely on SNAP for some groceries?(if that funding is cut)

A federal agency is overstepping their authority and detaining US Citizens for fender benders! They’re asking people randomly for proof of citizenship.

This operation is not what was laid out to the people and now Operation PARRIS has begun.

Find and arrest the frauds..yes! But that’s not what is occurring making it a violation of constitution and bill of rights.

unfortunately we lived this in AZ in 2011 with Repug Gov Jan Brewer and sheriff joe arpaio. it was called “papers please” legislation. i hid some of my mexican pals on a few neighborhood sweeps. nasty stuff amerikans vote for. like never ending worldwide war since 1898. funny in spain they celebrate 1898 as the end of their empire.

Thanks Mish. I can’t think of anything you have posted recently that I disagree with. In fact, you have expressed views I totally agree with but have tempered my own comments and opinions somewhat to avoid triggering the MAGA crowd too much. Shame on me. You are man of courage and principle. You have my deepest respect.

It’s important stuff… the traditional media doesn’t seem all that interested in these incidents.

The traditional media is owned by corporations that don’t want to get boycotted by the 25% of the population that have fascist and homicidal tendencies.

I’m with SavyinDallas here. I’ve been following Mish for what seems like a couple of decades now. Through a few domain and platform changes. From a young, wild-eyed libertarian broadcasting the fog of the Mises Institute to what is today some of the smartest and gutsiest stuff you can read on the net. Way to go Bro!

Agree. I’m not a fan of the boomer base but Mish gives me hope that there may yet be a few good boomers out there. Sad that there are so few like Mish.

Then again not all wine ages well, only the best grapes harvested at the right time and aged in excellent conditions turn out the best wines over time…

I think everyone should realize that you can be detained for 24 hours for absolutely no reason by any policing power just because they want to ask you questions?.
Did they tell them they were US Citizens? Did they beat a drum in someone’s face while in the mall in DC and only show one side.(aka Nick Sandman vs. Nathan Phillips) This smells like a set up and Mish is beating the drum. As I remember, CNN had to pay in a settlement.

“Three Felonies A Day” – how the feds target the innocent, by Harvey A.Silvergate. Published in 2009 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carrying $10,000 cash to buy a used car today would about been equal to $1800 ~ 50 years ago. Very common with many 18 year olds then. The frogs have been boiling in the pot for over half a century.

You need to ask for a refund for your law school tuition LOL

Mish specifically mentions the 4th Amendment within this post. It does NOT say you can be detained “for absolutely no reason by any policing power”: https://www.uscourts.gov/about-federal-courts/educational-resources/about-educational-outreach/activity-resources/what-does-fourth-amendment-mean

So, either you a troll or a fool for saying so

If the tribe wanted to be snarky they could request to send their own agents to arrest and deport, well, basically anyone who isn’t native american, right? Seems like a reasonable “immigration agreement”. They could start with the ICE agents.
