Liberation Day Flashbacks
November 19, 2025: How Trump’s Liberation Day Tariffs Work in Practice
Liberation day shut down a big North Carolina sawmill when China retaliated.

Across-the-board tariffs of up to 20% are back on the table ahead of April 2 “Liberation Day”.

The pre-shocks have begun. But the big shock is on deck.

This is an enormous ruling. 5 Reasons the court is correct.
November 16, 2025 What Are the Odds the Supreme Court Rules Against Trump on Tariffs?
The Supreme Court decision is not random. I discuss a framework.
On August 27, before the en banc ruling let’s recap how I sized up the Reciprocal Tariff Case.
Hypothetical Vote Count
The three liberal justices are certain to vote against Trump. That means we need two more.
Pair 1: Barrett and Roberts
Pair 2: Barrett and Gorsuch
Pair 3: Gorsuch and RobertsIf I am correct, I think Barrett is already on board. I can’t help but think Roberts will go with the majority, and perhaps decide.
If it’s pair 2, add Roberts for a 6-3 decision. The bigger the majority, the more cover for all of them.
February 20, 2026: Supreme Court Strikes Trump’s Reciprocal Tariffs In 6-3 Vote (I Told You So)
Forgive me for bragging, but I got every justice correct.
That recap was fun.
Q: But did that Supreme Court ruling stop Trump?
A: No.
Trump is back at it with tariffs on equally ridiculous rationale.
It’s possible some of those cases die in the courts as well. But the stupidest tariffs on aluminum and steel are highly likely to stick.
Feeling “Liberated” Yet?
Excluding the tariff front running in advance of Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariffs, this is the largest trade deficit in history.
Q: So what do we have for Trump’s tariffs?
A: Higher prices, an even bigger trade deficit, and a preposterous and damaging trade war with Canada that will further increase inflation.

We know the answer already, China. Click above for details.

Look where Trump ranks among Presidents, according to…Trump

It is reassuring he says he graduated at the top of his class at Wharton and claims he is the greatest president ever. There has to be some truth to it, right?
Trump is so unpopular Canada could probably make up for any trade-war decline in GDP with a GoFundMe account.
I guess if I had to pick a side with a Carney and 1/12 the economy and the molester and thief with 12 times the money I would give it even odds maybe even give Carney a slight advantage. Unless this goes military Canada wins.
usa tried invading twice in the past 250 years. failed both times, when we actually used to win some wars. if we tried to militarily invade canada in 2026, amerika would get there ass kicked. we cannot even beat 90lb weakings like iraq and syria……..
I’m patiently waiting for some MAGA to post their comment here about how Mish has TDS, or how Trump is playing 4D chess, or the media this, or Biden that.
What a fail this administration has turned out to be. I mean, I was expecting bad, but this is so incredibly much worse than I imagined.
Honestly, I have an excellent imagination and I feel like we haven’t even begun to see the worst these animals are capable of.
No need to insult animals.
Most animals do not knowingly shit in their own nest/lair. Meanwhile the orange turd continues to destroy its on habitat.
Does anyone still believe that Trump knows anything about economics, business, or international relations?
Talk about willfully blind! At least there’s poetic justice in the willfully blind suffering the most, but its sad
Unfortunately, Its going to get worse
I find it very reassuring Trump was the top of his class at Wharton. For an imbecile, that’s quite an accomplishment.
Deficit is up around 17%? Wow those tariffs are working like a hot dam!
But that’s only because the SCOTUS forced the cancellation and refunds./s
Meanwhile, global trade grew by 1.9% in the quarter and by 3.2% YoY. That is, the world doesn’t need a finicky trade partner like the US.
Look at the bright side….We pay for the junk we import with dollars of dubious value.
Excellent post. It’s posts like these that inspire taglines like..
Do worry, Trump, Walrus, GOP, and democrats will find a way to make things even worse.™
And then, just like that, it becomes reality.
But Mish! Didn’t you read the news? We now have the lake of America to show for it!
And Ontario is going to change its name to America to keep up the charade
He also talked about renaming an ocean next. I vote for the Pacific, so China can literally own the American ocean when they tear us a new asshole in the next five or so years.
Right next to Lake Epstien
“Winning” like “getting smacked upside the head with an aluminum baseball bat” is “winning”.
I’m sure it’s a Hunter Biden aftershock.
Taco is definitely building his economic legacy with consistency. Hope the mid-terms reflect his success.
Adding more debt than all other presidents combined is well within the grasp of those pudgy little hands.
Most succinct. And accurate
Amazing how he fails so bigly at business ventures.
If he did nothing but play with super glue we would have a better economy.
That’s why the injunction against the ballroom is stupid.
He could be spending his final 2 years overseeing the ballroom and throwing a couple of state parties in it. If that’s all he did for 2 years we’d be big winners.
Well the injunction is because the ballroom is illegal.
And Trump has to be opposed on every illegality, because he’s definitely has far more schemes and depredations up his sleeve.
Apparently, the underground secure facility is being worked. So, I assume Congress will have to fund something to be built above it, eventually….
i like how you think. gridlock is good. there is an old racist joke in nyc about a sale at bloomingdales, called yid lock.
What makes you think he will only be in the White House for 2 more years?
