Democrats Got Their Dream Wish, Now They Have to Live With It

There is a stunning number of ironies in the Trump-Biden rematch. At the top of the list is Biden’s belief that he is the only one who could beat Trump.

Wish Granted

At a NATO conference on March 24, 2022 Biden quipped to a reporterIn the next election, I’d be very fortunate if I had that same man running against me.

Comedian Bill Maher Commented: “The whole rationale for Biden running has always been I’m the only guy who can beat Trump. Now I think it’s inverted. He’s the only guy who can lose to him.”

King of Student Loans

In a press conference briefing in July of 2021, then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated the Constitutional Facts on Student Loans.

“The president can’t do it,” Pelosi said, at a press briefing. “That’s not even a discussion.”

Pelosi said any student debt forgiveness would have to be carried out by Congress. Other people in her party have said otherwise.

On June 30, 2023, the SCOTUSblog reported Supreme Court Strikes Down Biden Student-Loan Forgiveness Program

But that did not stop the king of student loans. He went ahead with another unconstitutional work around, then bragged about it.

The Supreme Court Didn’t Stop Me

In a White House Briefing on February 4, 2024, Biden bragged “The Supreme Court of the United States blocked me, but they didn’t stop me.

Immunity for Official Acts

On July 1, 2024 the Supreme Court ruled the President has immunity for official acts.

I commented, The Left is Aghast at the Correct Supreme Court Immunity Decision on Trump

In a 6-3 decision, the SC that held the President has immunity for official acts. It was not a complete victory for Trump. In fact, the Court rejected Trump’s base case.

That was my opinion but it was entirely based on the actual  Supreme Court Ruling. Here are a couple of snips from the Court, subtitles mine.

Court Blasts Trump’s Base Case to Outer Space

Trump asserts a far broader immunity than the limited one the Court recognizes, contending that the indictment must be dismissed because the Impeachment Judgment Clause requires that impeachment and Senate conviction precede a President’s criminal prosecution. But the text of the Clause does not address whether and on what conduct a President may be prosecuted if he was never impeached and convicted. See Art. I, §3, cl. 7. Historical evidence likewise lends little support to Trump’s position. The Federalist Papers on which Trump relies concerned the checks available against a sitting President; they did not endorse or even consider whether the Impeachment Judgment Clause immunizes a former President from prosecution. Transforming the political process of impeachment into a necessary step in the enforcement of criminal law finds little support in the text of the Constitution or the structure of the Nation’s Government.

Trump claimed to have absolute immunity. The Court blasted that claim to outer space. Again from the ruling …

Distinguishing Official Acts From Unofficial Ones

The first step in deciding whether a former President is entitled to immunity from a particular prosecution is to distinguish his official from unofficial actions. …

Presidents cannot be indicted based on conduct for which they are immune from prosecution. On remand, the District Court must carefully analyze the indictment’s remaining allegations to determine whether they too involve conduct for which a President must be immune from prosecution. And the parties and the District Court must ensure that sufficient allegations support the indictment’s charges without such conduct.

Distinguishing official acts from unofficial ones requires a prosecutorial hearing or fact finding mission to establish what is or is not an official act and what is or is not a constitutional act.

Such hearings are standard procedure for official acts. The Court merely extended the standard procedure to the office of president.

Contrary to hyperventilation by the Left, the SC ruling does not protect the President from unofficial acts or unconstitutional acts.

Truman Example

If the President claims authority to act but in fact exercises mere “individual will” and “authority without law,” the courts may say so. Youngstown, 343 U. S., at 655 (Jackson, J., concurring). In Youngstown, for instance, we held that President Truman exceeded his constitutional authority when he seized most of the Nation’s steel mills.

On grounds of national defense, Truman tried to seize steel mills. The Court quickly told Truman no, that’s unconstitutional.

Court Synopsis

The court rejected Trump’s base case, properly cited Truman as an unconstitutional example, and specifically applied its ruling to official acts.

Importantly, official acts must be constitutional!

Truman was acting “officially”, but not “constitutionally”.

The King Moans About Kings

Following the SC Ruling, Biden gave a speech “I Dissent

This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America.  Each — each of us is equal before the law.  No one — no one is above the law, not even the president of the United States.

With today’s Supreme Court decision on presidential immunity, that fundamentally changed.  For all — for all practical purposes, today’s decision almost certainly means that there are virtually no limits on what a president can do.

Given Biden’s forceful flouting of the Supreme Court not only is that dripping with irony, it’s also a blatant, purposeful lie as any careful reading of the actual ruling shows.

But that did not stop major hyperventilation from the Left including this nonsensical headline from the Huffington Post: Supreme Court Gives Joe Biden The Legal OK To Assassinate Donald Trump

Did anyone bother to read the ruling before commenting?

A Delusional Defense of Biden’s Health

He’s probably in better health than most of us.

What?!

Nate Silver replied, “They can’t tell the truth, that their candidate is well below the threshold of someone who should be president for another 4 years, so they tell obvious lies that nobody but the dumbest partisans will buy.”

In another bit of delusional madness …

Biden Says ‘My Son Has Done Nothing Wrong’

On May 7, 2023, the Wall Street Journal reported ‘My Son Has Done Nothing Wrong

“My son has done nothing wrong,” the President said on MSNBC. “I trust him. I have faith in him, and it impacts my Presidency by making me feel proud of him.”

Not Confidence Inspiring

The Guardian comments Joe Biden is taking advice from his son, Hunter. This does not inspire confidence.

The Biden clan gathered at Camp David on Sunday and, according to multiple reports, urged him to “keep fighting”. The New York Times stated: “One of the strongest voices imploring Mr Biden to resist pressure to drop out was his son, Hunter Biden, whom the president has long leaned on for advice.” Which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence: Hunter has poor judgment and a well-documented history of scandals. (To be clear, I am not sneering at his drug use; addicts deserve empathy. Drugs aside, his questionable business dealings and chaotic personal life make it difficult to look at Hunter and think: “Yeah, that’s a guy I should take advice from.”)

Three Hunter Ironies

The Hunter irony is threefold. First, the president is taking advice from someone whose motive is clearly suspect.

Second, the President goes around calling Trump a convicted felon.

The third irony is the New York trial was so flawed conviction is highly likely to be overturned but the Hunter felony will stand.

A Travesty of Justice

On May 30, Trump was convicted of a felony. Ironically, no one can precisely say what the felony is.

I commented Trump Found Guilty – a Travesty of Justice for America

A misdemeanor, on which the Statute of Limitations had run out, was used to produced 34 felony counts on committing a Federal offense for which he was not charged.

They will say “No one is above the law”. Indeed. But no one should be beneath the law either.

Every effort has been made to put Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Hillary Clinton above the law. And every effort has been made to put Trump beneath the law, including judicial instructions.

I am outraged and I don’t even care for Trump. Everyone should be outraged. The trial was unfair because there should not have been a trial at all.

On Getting Their Wish

So, here we are. Biden got his wish that nearly all Democrats now regret.

The DNC went along, greasing the wheels for a renomination and eliminating debate despite (or was it because of) the President’s increasingly obvious senility.

Judging from a recent cornucopia of posts on the New York Times, Washington Post, the Guardian, etc., Democrats have a new wish, for Biden to step down.

Sorry, the wish fairy only grants one political wish.

It’s now up to Jill or Hunter to convince Joe to stand down. That does not look promising now. However, there’s a decent chance the President soon will not be able to walk or say anything coherent even in the newly designated prime hours of 9:00AM to 4:00PM.

Yet, the longer the delay, the worse it looks. There is not a reasonable person on the planet who believe Biden can last another year, let alone four more years.

Effectively, the ne battle cry is “Four More Months!”

Democrats got what they deserve. Unfortunately, it’s not what the nation deserves.

That’s the final irony in a sorry script fully loaded with ironies.

It’s like quicksand…the more you squirm the faster you sink. If they try to get rid of heels up harris they piss off their Afro-American base.If they try to get anybody to drop they admit that the whole primary thing was a scam. The MSM (DNC) covering up weekend(s) at the Bidens for four years just blew up in their face. It’s Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan’s song all over again  “clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right and here I am, Stuck In The Middle With You”.

  1. The Intel/Security State Blob or the InterAgebcy as Ritter is now calling it after learning that despite Biden promising in the campaign to reinstate the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty he was told by probably Jake Sullivan, who is the face of the Blob, that the InterAgency was not ready for it – anyway The Intel State got what it wanted in Biden, not Democrats, they are just paid actors.
  2. Technically Trump is not a convicted felon until Merchan enters the conviction formally into the record, which is usually done at sentencing, which has now been delayed until at least September

Excellent point on Trump not being a convicted felon, since he hasn’t been sentenced yet, and likely will never be.

Yes, the Democratic Party or more accurately its power brokers and its donor base got what it wanted in ’24 with Biden. The aforementioned decision makers have also protected the president from having to contest within the Democratic Party for its nomination. Biden in other words is a candidate for the oligarchs and kleptocrats.

The elites know that they’ve screwed this up due to Biden’s lack of mental capacity. We’ve already had one president that had Alzheimer’s when serving as president and another had a stroke. I don’t want him running for office either in ’24. In fact, he should resign now because can’t execute his duties of his office. Where is Biden’s cabinet and the 25th Amendment? MIA.

I haven’t read the entire decision of Trump v US but I did read part of the syllabus where Roberts wrote about conclusive and preclusive authority regarding presidential official acts. My take is no enumerated power is absolute. Since when can the president pardon anyone without an outside source reviewing the circumstances behind it should the president have committed a crime in pardoning someone?

Clinton and Bush I argue pushed it too far. The former by pardoning Mark Rich for financial crimes and for dealing with Iran during the hostage crisis, as well as tax evasion, wire fraud, etc. In consideration for the pardon, Clinton received money to build his presidential library and Rich had been historically a large donor to the Democratic Party – pay for play. He should’ve been tried.

Bush the Elder pardoned the following defendants from going to the dock for Iran – Contra:

  1. (1991 Ten counts of perjury, false statements and obstruction)
  2. (1992 two felony charges of false statements and perjury before Congress — see Iran-Contra Affair)

* The above bullet points are courtesy of Wikipedia.

Bush the Elder pardoned these alleged criminals to keep his ass from going to the dock himself per Lawrence Walsh, Independent Prosecutor for Iran – Contra. Clinton DOJ should’ve prosecuted Bushie I.

We both know why they didn’t similar to Obama’s DOJ not investigating Bush II for the Iraq War or Abu Ghraib. Obama too had dirt on his hands that should’ve been looked into by Trump.

They all have sweetheart deals with one another to not look into the other’s crimes while president so your successor doesn’t do the same to you. Nice corrupt work if you can get it.

Didn’t the chief justice and the five GOP justices that opined that Trump has immunity from acts committed acting as president in his official capacity ever pick up a history book?

“On grounds of national defense, Truman tried to seize steel mills. The Court quickly told Truman no, that’s unconstitutional.”

Were this a much larger war than Korea, the SC would’ve punted. The Korean War for the US at that time was not a critical war dependent upon the nation’s existence if we lost or tied or threatened the US’ role as a worldwide hegemon and superpower.

In times of “real” war such where the nation is at risk such as the Civil War, WW I and WW II the president has near dictatorial powers domestically and militarily.

As for Biden’s student loan unconstitutional remarks, I agree that he shouldn’t have done it. But at another time and another place in our history in the landmark Marbury v Madison decision, Jefferson didn’t obey Marshall’s decision either. Marshall also knew Jefferson wouldn’t so he didn’t issue a writ of mandamus. Lincoln similarly suspended habeas corpus and Taney the SC chief justice said it was unconstitutional. The upshot is the Supreme Court can opine but they can’t enforce their decisions on the presidency.

I support the concept of judicial review. It is not an enumerated power in the Constitution either. It is an implied and inherent power.

I disagree that “In times of “real” war such where the nation is at risk such as the Civil War, WW I and WW II the president has near dictatorial powers domestically and militarily.” Truman could have legally bought the steel mills, but “in times of real war” the steel mills will no doubt prioritize producing steel for national defense.

There is no need for “dictatorial powers” and once you allow them, you’ll never be free from them.

Is it because we are a Republic that each state has their own election laws?
I have come to read that what is legal voting process in 1 state is illegally in another.
And some states will have cameras on ballot drop boxes while others don’t

How do you work around that?

you work the problem(s), state-by-state, with local resources on the ground & inside the room.

IOW, there is no ‘Easy Button’… this particular issue (election integrity) will have to be resolved the hard way, and it will require time & persistence.

so be it.

If the Supremes ruled that the student debt forgiveness is unconstitutional can the Biden debts forgiveness be ruled as null and void and thus those debts by the students be reinstated?
Or can the courts rule that Biden be on the hook personally for the debt and have his homes, investments and pensions all taken in bankruptcy? Would love to see him living in the streets and begging for ice cream. Only fair after all the millions now living below the poverty line thanks to Bidenomics.

Most of the self proclaimed rugged individual types end up not being so rugged after all. The tentacles of public money that reaches all areas of our economy are pervasive. The list is huge and includes but is not limited to:

Government insurance programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid, made up 45 percent, or $1.9 trillion, of national healthcare spending. How ruggedly individual is the Health care industry???

Policy sanctioned 401K plans and Public pensions that all direct massive amounts of money towards Wall Street, and capital gains. How ruggedly individual are equities???

Approximately 15.3 % of the U.S. workforce is employed by the federal , state, or local government. How ruggedly individual are public servants????

10% of American Manufacturing is Military related,

Section 8 Facts 2022-2023. 8.52% of the American renters live in subsidized housing, at a total of 9.3 million people. How ruggedly individual are landlords that cannot even have full occupancy without Section 8.

Every thing performed with public money has some portion of the investor class being paid to do it, Hardly free market capitalism.

Actually, a third party made the payment to the woman in question. He did it as part of his regular business practice of buying up salacious stories about famous people and then publishing them in his self styled newspaper. Sometimes he would buy such stories and not print them for various reasons.

Cohen reimbursed the third party. Cohen said on many occasions, sometimes under oath, that he did it on his own. He subsequently changed his story much later to say that Trump knew about the payment to the third party before Cohen made it.

Trump had no conversations with the woman or her lawyer about the payment nor was it paid out of his account. The money the woman received came from the third party. The third party said he bought the rights to the story before talking to Trump about it. The third party said that the money he later received came from an account controlled by Cohen. At no time did that account ever receive any money from Trump.

I am sure the actual chain of events does make any difference to your opinion of what happened. However, you are spreading false stories just like the democrats and the prosecution want you to do.

I personally don’t care if Trump paid off women for his trysts outside of his marriage(s).

He did get caught, however, writing a check to Cohen and the paper trail shows it was dubious enough to warrant a conviction by a jury.

Trump has appealed the decision so it is now in the hands of the appellate court. To be continued.

What’s truly a head scratcher is how quickly the mainstream media (MSM) would not really cover Biden’s mental deficiencies over the last 1-2 years and now all of the sudden after one 90 min, performance most of them are calling for him to step down. The complicity in not reporting his obvious deterioration reminds me of the ’30s and ’60s press that did not report on the health and dailliances of both FDR and JFK. “Nothing to see here” The MSM’s credibility is beyond repair…Iraq War II, Covid and now Biden’s obvious deterioration. If you dare criticize how they choose not to report the obvious, they label you into a MAGA right wind fascist. MSM is no longer independent and have become the propaganda ministries for their respective political preferences.

Today jobs report shows just how weak the private sector is becoming.
Economy is hiring due to Government spending which in turn drives up cost of money.
This offers no relief for potential home buyers stuck in purgatory of rental or too small a house or too large a house , created by Biden economic policies.
The only real question is will Biden receive the Blame or will people understand that he was and is a nothing but the party he technically leads was right there enabling him.
People are going to want some justice and they only have to be made aware, if not already so, as to where to place their wraith upon.

It does not matter whether Dems run Biden, Harris or any one else, it is their political machine which has caused the Havoc.
Economically it is far too late for any rate cuts should they ensue to turn things around before election.

Trump will be running on issues and Dems can not. If they could then they would not have based their whole Campaign on Lawfare and Orange Man Bad.

“Deadline is Jan. 4: The first rule, issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), covers companies with 100 or more employees and applies to an estimated 84 million workers. Companies must ensure either that their workers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Jan. 4 or that they test negative for the coronavirus at least once a week.”

“Health care workers don’t have a testing option under a separate rule: A second rule issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services requires some 17 million health care workers to be vaccinated by the same deadline, Jan. 4, but with no option for weekly testing in lieu of vaccination. The rule covers all employees — clinical and nonclinical — at about 76,000 health care facilities that receive federal funding from Medicare or Medicaid.

Earlier, Biden had ordered federal workers and contractors to be vaccinated, with no testing option. Federal workers have until Nov. 22 to get the shots, while federal contractors have until Jan. 4.”

“I strongly support Secretary Austin’s message to the Force today on the Department of Defense’s plan to add the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of required vaccinations for our service members not later than mid-September. Secretary Austin and I share an unshakable commitment to making sure our troops have every tool they need to do their jobs as safely as possible. These vaccines will save lives. Period. They are safe. They are effective. Over 350 million shots have been given in the United States alone. Being vaccinated will enable our service members to stay healthy, to better protect their families,…”

“We are looking at a winter of severe illness and death for the unvaccinated – for themselves, their families and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. But there’s good news: If you’re vaccinated and you have your booster shot, you’re protected from severe illness and death,” the President added.”

My answer, I believe in Natural immunity first and foremost. Doctors do not cure anyone, they only can facilitate the natural healing process from disease.

Also there are diseases such as some cancers which have incident rates which are rising. This has some correlation with getting the Vaccine.

I had a choice on the Republican side of the ledger as to which candidate should be on the dais but the DNC decided there would be no choice. The threats to democracy ironically have “democra” embedded in the slogan so as to identify the guilty party – democrats. That’s what Mish’s post is highlighting–the DNC decided and the country and party is worse for it. Republican citizens chose and the people decided. They may have bet on the wrong horse but at least they made the bet, not the RNC.

I consider CNN to be the ultimate “main stream news” outlet and the modern equivalent of Pravda.

If I want to know what the current “narrative” is, I always turn to CNN.

Biden is finished. CNN made it official with their current headline:

Democrats start moving to Kamala Harris: A widening group of leading Democrats, operatives and donors feel that Biden’s slow start to salvage his campaign just won’t work.

If Hunter is lurking around the West Wing it can only mean one thing. Joe is going to GET PAID! And Hunter is there to negotiate. One last grift before the Biden name fizzles. Hunter is on it.

Hunter’s simple advice to Dad: Tell everyone you are running. Every single time.

As time runs out the desperate dems will offer Joe an obscene amount of money to get out. Until then Joe will always say he is running…until the check clears.

I see Biden and his supporters to include his family as in this to game the system for their personal benefit. There is no consideration for the country’s good, only self and possibly the political party only to maintain the grifting for self. Unfortunately, this is true for most politicians of all political parties. It reminds me that over many years, I cannot recall a politician being described as a patriot, even when being eulogized.

Democrats have been above the law for years. Hillary Clinton’s “matter” over a “homebrew server” was outrageously reduced to a small fine. Lois Lerner suffered zero consequences for deleting all her e-mails while using the IRS to target conservative groups. Hunter Biden is a walking crime spree who records his offenses and the FBI still won’t touch him when handed the evidence. And poisonous forced mRNA injections and firing first responders and soldiers who refuse them is just gross human rights violations. Encouraging a relentless border invasion is a whole new level of treason. This regime is an absolute abomination; they’ve confirmed the Deep State theory, while doing everything possible to destroy the economy, the Constitution, the family, citizenship, ethics, national unity, and the credibility and trust of our institutions.

Hillary’s private server was installed in a bathroom closet at home. Surprised it didn’t dissolve from the sulfur fumes.

A sad day indeed. We have the process we do to help insure candidates are viable. Skipping the primary process when there were significant concerns about Biden’s capabilities was just about the dumbest possible political move. The Democrats deserve to get sidelined for the next four years for all the dumbass, autocratic and abuse of power moves they have been doing of late.

Sometimes its just timing. Each side has periods where a “superhero” is available to run and decisively win (Reagan, Clinton, Dubya, Obama), but this time around the Repubs have a guy they really dont want, but who appeals to a desperate public, vs. the other guy who should have run 20 years ago. Sometimes nature just doesnt work in your favor.

Biden DID run 20 years ago… he’s been standing in-line (and losing badly) for almost 50 years… the guy is a third-string never-Varsity LOSER.

But he finally out-lived the other boomer reptile losers and forced yet another POTUS candidacy, based purely on seniority & spite (certainly not merit).

Dems deserve every bit of this clusterf*ck.

Good luck finding a stable coalition/base @ US Left after 2024:

anti-american corporate elitist MIC warmongering zionist powerSlut hypocrites (the Clinton/Swamp pedoViagra dinosaurs),
delusional malthusian identity-construct socialist cause-du-jour activist bedwetters (the BernieSquadBetaBro bluehairs),
self-righteous empty-vessel bourgeoise narcissist social-climbing immoral muppets (the Obama/Bezos celebrity credential cult).

good luck with that.

Your bias is so annoying. The Republicans CHOSE the guy, there was a process that gave the people the voice to choose. Your statement that “the Repubs have a guy they don’t really want” may be true but perhaps only deep on the inside of the neo cons, RINOs and other political operatives that have been in near lock step with Democrats. But, in all other manners it’s pure fiction in your own mind, ignoring the facts of the primary and caucus process whereby the PEOPLE spoke. It must frighten you to have to admit the republican CITIZENS chose the guy you don’t like. But alas, they did. I can name dozens of my closest friends that chose and millions clearly did as well.

This ain’t about timing, this is about the elitist chicanery and autocratic ruling by your party that chose for the people because, like all elitist central planners that lust for power and money that typically leads to ruindation of the people at the hands of corruption and abuse of power and rule of law, they think they know better and think they should be the deciders. The People cannot be trusted but Government…well Government is sovereign!

There were options in the Democratic party available but, if you think not, what are you saying about tens of governors, 5x Senators and 200+ sitting Congressmen and women? There’s no one fit to lead at the moment better than a guy we’ve known has been compromised since he ran from his basement in 2020, didn’t appear at the convention to accept the nomination and called lids constantly even in Candidacy 1.0?

Stop playing the victim and start examining who you’ve been supporting for years. He was compromised 4 years ago, you just couldn’t get all 4 years out of him before the utlimate exposure last week. None of this is new. None of this was unexpected by those that pay close attention to many sources of information.

This is not an “aw shucks, the timing wasn’t right this time” moment.

In that the DNC got what they deserve but the US does not deserve it … reminds me of the saying and the corrolary:
“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
Corollary: “Those who do learn from history are also doomed to repeat it because they are outnumbered and outvoted by those who don’t learn from history.”

Does anyone else think that tonight’s interview with George Stephanopoulos is going to wind up helping Biden’s image, at least a little? Stephanopoulos is highly partisan and will probably feed Biden softball questions. Plus, the interview is pre-recorded. I’ll bet they’ll film multiple takes of the mumbler-in-chief answering each question until an acceptable reply is formed. I think the interview could be a short-term reprieve.

No. His image is shot. You can’t unsee that debate. The notion that he’ll get a bump from a scripted interview and two teleprompter speeches is this weekend is beyond ridiculous.

What’s beyond ridiculous is that anyone was surprised by his debate performance. After watching Biden wander around aimlessly and space out like an escapee from a nursing home at Juneteenth, G7, etc. I’m surprised his debate performance wasn’t worse.

But people believe what they want to believe and a good interview will lend credence to the fact that the poor debate was an isolated incident. Will it be enough to resuscitate Biden’s image? I dunno, but they are putting up a good defense is all I’m saying.

It’s great for Republicans for Biden to look good for this interview so he can show democrats he can do the job for 4 more years. Just need Biden to fake it until it’s too late to drop out.

It doesn’t matter. He could be perfect tonight but that doesn’t mean he’s getting better. There will be more episodes and non-stop decline from here out. Everyone who has ever dealt with dementia in their own family knows there is no getting better from this, only worse.

Until recently, I felt badly for Biden because his family, his trusted confidants and allies and even his doting wife, dr jill biden, have all been guilty of elder abuse.

I don’t feel badly for him anymore. Biden embodies all that is wrong with the US in 2024 – a corrupt, physically and mentally worn jackass pretending that he’s the opposite of what he is. I hope he publicly soils himself to complete the humiliation of not only him, but of all his apologists, boot lickers, enablers and those holding up the scaffolding that’s propping up an arthritic old man unable to wipe himself without the aid of his night nurse.
